21  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: July 21, 2018, 08:18:32 PM
If you believe in Monero's future (you should... just take a look at active research and development), it would be wise to use this "down time" to fortify your position and tie up loose ends. I've been accumulating since the price fell under $150.

I was almost certain the downtrend would have reversed sooner, but these waiting periods can be seen as an opportunity to focus on some of the less exciting but equally important facets of investing: security and wealth preservation. Don't find yourself caught off guard when things start to heat up again.

I have been reporting them. I hope they find a common formula or something that gives away the posts.
He suggested I just report them to the local Mod for passing on - so I don't think they've actually got a system in place yet.

It is starting to be needed, but my real fear is that as the tech gets better it will be hellish - but they will have already let the bots in.  At the moment it's a post every couple of pages, soon every few posts...  Eventually you will strain your eyes wondering which post (if any) is written by a carbon-based life-form!
This is just a tiny tiny fraction of a much bigger problem that is coming. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JvbHu_bVa_g The machines will intrude into our lives more and more until we don't even know what is real anymore in any of life's domains, until eventually we become irrelevant, and then we will wish for the days that we mattered enough for them to want to intrude Cheesy Either way, it get's a lot worse before it gets better, if it ever gets better at all.

We can't become irrelevant if the machines depend on us (our attention, our money). Like a parasite, they can't survive without a host. So either we stop caring what is or isn't real (should we care?), or we leave the island altogether. An island of robots benefits no one.

My last prediction was way off, but I do think we'll see big movement before October. We're deep in the "is anything ever going to happen" phase of the cycle that is reminiscent of last year when the price seemed to perpetually hover around $30.

The general pattern of the XMR market (and all of crypto, really) is long periods of consolidation and false reversals, followed by very brief moments of extreme excitement and massive price increases. I'm confident we're going to see some fireworks (very) soon.

Edit 2: The Monero bear market bottomed out at 91 k sat, so the bear pigs did get slaughtered.

Including our favorite duck-like bear pig who no longer shows his face around here. He (and others) expected to price to fall all the way to 50k sat. Well stated that the long position is the best position to have (if you can find a long worth taking). Optimism wins over the long-term.
25  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: April 24, 2018, 06:56:59 PM
I'm still looking at $300 by end of month with maybe a brief trip up to $350.

I assume we'll see $300 by end of day. It's $297 right now.
26  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: March 26, 2018, 11:21:07 PM
So I'm curious how everyone views BTC, XMR, etc. correlating with the global economy... For some reason it seems to be following the DOW at least.  To me it seems to make sense... the more people are feeling confident in the economy, people tend to be willing to throw their money around and into investments, and therefore cryptos (because people view cryptocurrencies as 'risky' investments).

Does anyone here have any money in the market?  Also am I the only one who hopes the market explodes, even though I do have a 401(k) I'm throwing money at?

I am not really sure what you mean by explodes. I speculate you mean here a next crysis and all stock markets drastically fall and governments again need to bail out banks.

I think when that happen, crypto will suffer the same. Actually will suffer much more. But in Crypto language (10% daily drops and raise) it will be same as old economy. But then when crysiss will come to its peak and politicians will start argue how to get out of it best suddenly  crypto will look to part of political spectre and part of population best option to continue long term.

you don't think when stocks, bonds & real estate are all crashing that crypto would go up?
a sort of "safe haven" if it were.

I dont, because it will be panic. Everything will go down together same as went up together in 2017. No safe heaven. People will try to cash out anything. Even Gold will not go up when crysisi start but only at peak of crysis, a year or two latter.

I'm not so sure. The on/off-ramps to crypto (especially alts) are not as easily accessible and thus less susceptible to panics in the broader markets. Cryptos still remain very much on the fringe in spite of their recent publicity.
27  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: March 02, 2018, 06:03:32 PM
If Monero doesn't have an airdrop coming I don't see us having this price increase, may very well return to the mean right before or after the airdrop.

Always an optimist, aren't you? Smiley
28  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: March 01, 2018, 11:13:19 PM
Have you guys noticed this pattern:

1.  Upward price movement in XMR that looks organic and metered.
2.  Then very quickly thereafter one or two giant market sells that flatten the price back down.

I have seen this over and over for years now.

In the past I've noticed that whenever the price started to move upward "something" would happen to reverse the trend. Either FUD or a social attack or something to kill the upward momentum. This seemed to happen more often while the project was less mature, however there are more recent examples of foul play (don't tell me the monero-link report wasn't an obvious attempt to discredit the project in the guise of "research").

That said, I don't think there's currently an attempt to suppress the price on a large scale. If the price isn't going higher it's probably because the market isn't ready. $300/0.03btc seems to be a psychological threshold where a lot of speculators are taking profit. The uptrend can't proceed until they get their fill, which I'm betting happens sometime in late March.

Sorry for asking twice, but does anyone remember the US$ OTC broker who accepted monero, I think it may have been cumberlandmining.com, but I'm not sure.

If it was cumberland, anyone have experience using them?

It’s DV Chain.

Both DV Chain and Cumberland will trade Monero. Don't expect much hand holding from either of them, however.

But now that bitcoin is doing it's best resurrection act and alts are shrinking... what do you guys see for the future price action of our beloved coin?

XMR looks to be on track to do what it always does. Fireworks on March 20th. $1500.

I doubted you last time and regretted it. But...$1500...within four weeks? That would be truly astonishing.

You should be doubting me. After all, I'm just a guy on the internet.

But...$1500...within four weeks? That would be truly astonishing.

The rises are abrupt and without warning. They're astonishing only for a brief moment before seeming inevitable in retrospect.

Is there anyone who had ever forgotten to input the Payment ID when transferring XMR to an exchange? And how long does the exchange take to credit your XMR deposit? I transferred some from Binance to OKEX, but forget to input the ID. Half a month has passed, and problem still unsolved.

Did you notify them? The reason the PayID is important is because it tells them whose account to credit. If you don't file a ticket, you'll never get your money.
33  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: February 01, 2018, 05:30:19 PM
There has to be uncertainty in the market, otherwise there would be no reason for people to panic Tongue

When BTC fell 80% after its December '13 high, it took over a year to reach the bottom.

It's barely February. If we really are entering a bear market, I'm guessing it's going to be a quick one. More likely, it's just going to be a very turbulent (yet profitable) year in crypto.
34  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: February 01, 2018, 05:09:02 PM
Why so sure? Smiley

I'll be more sure when the trolls arrive. That's usually when the countdown begins.

$243 and falling. Anyone scared yet?

Nah. Using Polo:

Current cycle:
ATH: 478
Current low: 237
-50.4%

Last September:
ATH: 144
low: 71
-50.7%

Last May:
ATH: 57.69
low: 24.1
-58%

Sept 2016:
ATH: 15.24
low: 4.19
-72.5%

Also that time we hit 63usd? Remember that one? Yeah we fell by like 53% then too.

Couldn't give af.

Last time I checked sovreignless digital internet money was still crypto's killer app. There are no other options out there.

If XMR ends 2019 below 1K usd I'll eat my dick.

Well said. The way I see it, the quicker BTC crashes, the better it is for XMR. Let it fall to 4k USD. We'll still see 500% of the low by March.

Sort posts by "new" and you will see a lot of activity before it gets moderated and downvoted. The sub might seem less active only because the mods do a pretty good job of filtering all the spam and low quality content.

Question now is, when is a good time to buy back into XMR? Is is going to drop more? Who here thinks BTC will fall below $10,000?

As far as I'm concerned, it has to. What else is going to drag XMR down to $230 where it needs to be?

How about we compromise? We don't go down so low, but we don't go up so high? Rule of four, perhaps?

This volatility has made me realize me my BP is not BP.

I picked $230 by just taking 50% from the ATH of $460-475 and rounding down. However, I believe the price was over $500 on a few non-Bithumb exchanges, which would make today's low of $254 a "reasonable" bottom.

That said, I wouldn't assume we've seen the bottom quite yet.

EDIT: The price did go to $237 on Bittrex.

Pretty sure we saw both of these on Poloniex BTC/XMR market in late December...

You're probably correct, but I only look at USD markets because as far as I can tell cryptowatch doesn't chart BTC pairs in USD. That would be a nice feature.

Yep, at the click of a button, under the settings tab(gear icon).  I tend to just keep an eye on Livecoinwatch  though.

Checking that box has never seemed to change anything for me, unfortunately Sad

EDIT: ok it does work for fiat pairs like XMR/EUR, but not XMR/BTC.

Looks like we all managed to survive.

So - the 64,000 dollar question - if this is the bottom, when and what is the next top?

My bet is always the same: 5X wherever the price stabilizes, 45ish days after the bottom. So if we stick around $300 moving forward, that puts us at $1500 in early March.
