21  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [ESHOP launched] Trezor: Bitcoin hardware wallet on: December 09, 2014, 08:06:58 AM

Jorge, I hope you bought your computer and cell phone at the computer and cell phone factories respectively. Because everybody knows that people have sensitive personal and credit card data + some have bitcoin wallets on their devices so it's important to buy from the factory instead of a vendor and even then you are not 100% sure!

Why you want Trezor to put warnings on their product and educate customers, when no one in the business does that?

You mentioned fake ATMs. If anybody planted those or if I opened a fake bank branch then people would loose money, but I don't see banks warning their customers about their product not being safe.

If postal offices started replacing every package that could potentialy bring them profit, they would have millions on the first day, but magically they don't do it (because the poor postman would go to jail). And somehow they don't have to warn anybody that their package might contain replaced malicious product.

If every hardware manufacturer would have to check and physicaly secure all their vendors to be sure they are not putting malicious elements in their hardware, there will be no hardware at all and yet I don't see warnings on my laptop about some parts being potentialy malicious.

My point is not that Trezor is 100% secure, but that the problems that you mention are not Trezor specific and at the same time you want only SL to warn their customers about such problems. Just because you hate bitcoin you have double standard for Bitcoin and non-Bitcoin products. When you convince mobile and computer vendors to label their products with such warning then come back with such requests.

Have you guys seen this?

www.ledgerwallet.com

In their FAQ section, they compare themselves to Trezor, and identify several security flaws with Trezor. Are there any merits to their claims?

Thanks

I quote the site: "The difference lies in the fact that Trezor is not built upon a secured microcontroller, leading to possible security holes such as side channel attacks, private keys leaks through code exploits and physical key extraction as soon as it is stolen."

The fact is that the Trezor is really not built on a secured microcontroller, however:
 - the possibility of security holes does not mean that there are some
 - and more importantly the use of secured microcontroller does not guarantee the absence of security holes

1. There is no known side channel attack on Trezor and even if there was one, it would probably require user to sign A LOT of transactions chosen by attacker which is not feasible attack vector.
2. It would be extremely difficult/impossible to exploit Trezor.
3. Physical extraction of password unprotected keys is possible (and this is known from the beginning) but it would be very expensive and it would require professional laboratory equipment and a lot of time. User would be able to move his funds using backup.

On the other hand Ledger Wallet requires secure computer to initialize and is less user friendly. I would recommend it to someone who needs product cheaper than Trezor, but I would not say that it's more secure.

My new trezor still not working and I have not received any solution from the support service. I have not even been able to access to the first configuration of the device  Sad

Why does it take so long to provide help to your customers via support service?

The last answer from support was more than 30 hours ago, telling me that the problem was probably due to Windows 7 issues when I has been said them before that I had tested the device in another SO. Actually in differents computers with XP, W7 and W8 with same results.

Still waiting since then. Maybe I'm impatient, but I was eager to try and use my trezor.

I had similar problems like you.

My solution was to use a USB hub with a standalone power supply.

Yeah, Try USB cable that you know works.

Is it possible for me to buy a metal case for my trezor?

Nope, check the thread history for details.

Hi Guys,

received my Trezor today, it is super sweeeeeeeet ^^

Question: will there be a bitcoin core client integration? I mean like an option to select Trezor as input or something... That would be awesome

The core should stay independent. It would be contra-productive for them to support one particular wallet product over another.
And I don't see a benefit for Trezor either. It already works fine without core support.
Maybe a tighter integration of some of the Trezor BIPs into the core is what you want, but I guess that core developers have their own priorities (including but not limited to payment protocol and making the client more robust)

Wow. Seems like the hardware wallet space is starting to heat up. Here's a new hardware wallet called "Bitstash." I still don't get it because the video is very vague but it introduces interest concepts and security features nonetheless via Bluetooth and 3 types of wallets. I hope Trezor can consider some of them for their next version:

http://bitstash.com

Well, nice website and professional video promising a product that should ship mid 2015 with every feature possible. I wish them all the best, but I would be very cautious about spending money on this.

Any eta on when BoP is going to be fixed?

I have not received a bug report from TREZOR that would imply a downtime of the magnitude claimed in this thread, therefore would be fair if it was not represented as a BoP issue.

I have no information whether Satoshilabs filed such a bug report or not. To be fair, the issue might still be in mytrezor not using the backend correctly. Satoshilabs may have some more info and it would be nice to get this fixed instead of just restarting backends.
28  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [ESHOP launched] Trezor: Bitcoin hardware wallet on: October 16, 2014, 10:16:34 AM
I don't know if they're all running on the same machine / virtual machine, but on the occasions mytrezor.com has been malfunctioning - balances not showing - test.mytrezor.com has worked fine.

Given that satoshilabs also operate dev.mytrezor.com, perhaps one of the testnet servers could be converted to a backup mainnet server.

It may be that the BoP backend has unresolved issues when running on mainnet that do not occur on testnet.

This is a great idea. Second server should fix the problem for most users because they could try the other one in case of first failing.

They should also have an automated service that detects the ptoblem and restarts the server. Or it could send SMS to stick.
Or maybe, if server always works for couple of days, they may have automated daily restarts.

Any eta on when BoP is going to be fixed?

What reasons would you guys have to use multibit HD (once they have trezor support), over just using the mytrezor webwallet?   The webwallet has enough functionality for me alone...

Decentralization.

What do you mean by that? Like we don't have to depend on a back-end server like we do a with Trezor?

Let's say you have a three company owners. One is in Japan, Second in the US and third in Zurich. You may need two of them to sign company expenses. That's what multi sig is about.
Second use case: You have to sign transaction with 3 out of five: your Trezor, your wife's Trezor, your mobile phone, Trezor in the bank vault and your geek cousin computer wallet.
30  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [ESHOP launched] Trezor: Bitcoin hardware wallet on: October 06, 2014, 03:11:29 PM

I had contacted them a few days ago about a bug that didn't show *some* transactions. They said they are aware and it's a backend problem. Seems it just got worse.

It looks like the transactions are back to normal.   I also received a message from the guys over at trezor saying that they have fixed the problem.  Pretty prompt response from them, which is much appreciated Smiley

The server was not fixed. It was restarted. This will happen again soon. I look forward to Electrum release so I have a backup solution when this happens next time.

Keys stored in the bootloader are public as asymmetric cryptography is used there. There is no security reason why bootloader should stay closed, but we were quite hesitant to open it because that's the last piece of mosaic that our competition is missing from making a perfect TREZOR clone.

Either the bootloader binary can be retrieved using custom firmware or it can't. In the first case, it's simple for competition to get all they need. In the latter case, the bootloader cannot be verified.

In the first case it makes no sense to hide the code, in the second case it won't help much to release it.

Can you please clarify if it can be read?

Is the metal model still available for purchase?

As is answered twice per page no, and it probably never will be.

I wish they would put them up for sale for a higher price.   I would pay 2x the regular price for a metal one, just because I like the way it looks.

Early supporters of the project payed 3x the regular price for them. I'd rather not see them on sale like that. That'd be a shot in the back of early supporters.

Yeah you are right. I would still pay 3x for it though...

Buy plastic one and pay somebody to do the case for you. slush mentioned it's mostly manual work anyway and plastic is almost for free...

There should be a trezor public wishlist, so that we can make suggestions

Wishes are quite obvious. But we have a limited workforce :-/ So there are two options basically:
* either we sell enough TREZORs so we can fund more developers
* or someone from the community picks up

But I know you guys are not iOS/Android developers. Hiring someone is of course an option and I would not mind, because that would not harm other goals. But even if iOS was top on the wishlist, you should not do it, but focus on what you are good at...
34  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [ESHOP launched] Trezor: Bitcoin hardware wallet on: September 26, 2014, 07:54:31 PM
this would be a good idea for the guys from Trezor to build and add onto their shoptrezor webstore...

Well, on my wishlist of Trezor improvements, this is now on 15th place right after being able to login to my battle.net account with Trezor. I believe there are more important things to do/fix for Trezor developers. This should be a community effort.  All the libs are out there. I don't really see the reason why Trezor team should implement this.
35  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [ESHOP launched] Trezor: Bitcoin hardware wallet on: September 24, 2014, 11:07:05 AM
Which wallets are compatible for Trezor? What future wallets are being added? And about how long for those to be added?

I've been testing electrum + trezor (well, actually: using as my day-to-day wallet, really). It's "right around the corner", 2 weeks style Wink. Seriously, though: dust is settling and electrum is close to a release.

The wallets that talk to Trezor are myTrezor and Electrum, and I think that Armory is planned.

If your Trezor breaks, the seed can be imported into Wallet32 and Mycelium 2.0 (RC1 is out).

Was anyone successful in getting the Trezor to run with Google Chrome 37 on Ubuntu 13.10? I've installed the plugin on my first visit on mytrezor.com (64bit .deb), but always get the message to install the plugin.
It seems to work in Firefox, but it takes ages to come up with the user interface, it shows a white page for three minutes at least.

Any help is very much appreciated!

EDIT: Also runs in Chromium 34. Firefox and Chromium show the plugin when opening about:plugins, Google Chrome doesn't...

Chrome does not support NPAPI plugins. This will be resolved with Trezor bridge, when it is released. Trezor plugin does not work in Chrome.

Just FYI, Buytrezor.com now offers TREZORs in three colors: white, grey and black...

why there isn't a yellow one?

In hardware, the more pieces of one color you order the lower is the price. They stock three colors to avoid having to pay high premiums on small batches of Trezors. If you want to buy 1000 or more yellow Trezors, just send them an e-mail and I bet they will order them for you.

There will be red, neon green, Lambo yellow, gun metal, black metal and plain yellow for all of you when(if) these sell in bigger numbers. Until then, you have to make it yourself: http://imgur.com/a/GbsAn

Does anyone know what were the stress tests on Trezor? If it'll be the way of secure pending of the future, it'd better take lots of button pressings . :-)

million of button presses + high durability against dust and electricity discharge. not waterproof.

Was really happy to have my Trezor arrive yesterday, sadly I've not been able to get it to work.
I've installed the browser plugin, plugged it into a USB port and get the positive confirmation noise. I then go to MyTrezor.com and it says:
"Device could not be opened. Make sure you don't have myTREZOR running in another tab or browser window!".
I have tried Chrome, Firefox and IE and also reinstalling the browser plugin. I've temporarily disabled any malware/anti virus that could be interfering. Nothing has helped. I'm on Windows 7.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Support say they have had other people with the same issue and are looking into it.

This problem is known, and as far as I know it is specific to Win 7 only, contact the Trezor support please

Isn't this the USB cable problem again? Can you try different USB cable?

If we were going to  actually be using Trezor for LTC, would we need two separate Trezors, one for BTC and one for LTC?   Or can we use the same one for both?

You can use the same, because BIP32 paths would differ. BIP44 specifies these paths like this:
m / purpose' / coin_type' / account' / change / address_index
Registered coin types: http://doc.satoshilabs.com/slips/slip-0044.html

First LTC address would have path: m / 44' / 2' / 0' / 0 / 0 compared to BTC path: m / 44' / 0' / 0' / 0 / 0 and maybe in the future you may have Doge: m / 44' / doge_constant' / 0' / 0 / 0 or others Smiley
