But the real question is, are traps gay?

According to the internet, you are correct.

This bear trap is definitely gay.

Looking bouncy on the 30m-1h. But I'm not so sure it was a bear trap. Might be a lower high coming. Lips sealed
22  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Has anyone got a link to Satoshi's first implementation of Bitcoin? on: March 05, 2018, 03:39:24 AM
I heard that it's on sourceforge but would be nice if someone has any earlier links Smiley

There are GitHub commits dating back to 2009. It should be close to what Satoshi originally released: https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/tree/4405b78d6059e536c36974088a8ed4d9f0f29898

This is from the Bitcoin wiki:

For history, one of the earliest available proof of a running bitcoin-0.1.0 with a human readable debug log. There might have been also (private) earlier client code before 0.1.0 available only to Satoshi Nakamoto.
23  Economy / Exchanges / Re: HitBTC.com - The most advanced cryptocurrency exchange on: February 19, 2018, 07:12:49 AM
Are people still using this SHIT-exchange? lmao
Probably some people are still using hitbtc, it's because some token trading is only available on hitbtc. i have completely stopped using this and 2 other horrible exchanges. dex is the future, probably in 1-2 year we'll have a decent dex.

That's just the thing. I think you're right.... 1-2 years for a quality DEX. During that time, people will still use these shitty exchanges. There are some coins where HitBTC is still the volume leader because they haven't hit major exchanges.
24  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Advice for Existing Ledger Users on: February 04, 2018, 10:46:43 AM
It's not just Ledger users. This MITM vulnerability affects all hardware wallets.

I'm gonna keep saying it: Stop storing anything you aren't willing to lose on hardware wallets. Use them for limited funds only. They have huge attack surfaces and they are not well-tested. And frankly, it should be common sense not to plug all your keys into a live computer.

It's scary that this is "typical":

Quote
-New ledger users would typically send all their funds to the wallet once initialized. If the machine was pre-infected, this first transaction may be compromised causing the user to lose all of his funds.
25  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Could the Intel vulnerability have compromised private keys? on: January 23, 2018, 12:12:50 AM
what makes you think that such vulnerabilities don't exist in hardware wallets? considering the entire thinking around the security architecture of modern processors and speculative execution was wrong, it stands to reason that this is possible for hardware wallet architecture as well.

Hardware wallets don't execute arbitrary code. They have a defined communication interface that doesn't allow other actions.

The software running on the hardware wallet is also simple enough that one individual can know everything that is happening in the wallet. They can thus verify that there is nothing malicious in the code.

The Meltdown attack was possible because everyone fundamentally misunderstood how authorization worked for memory processes. The same can indeed happen to hardware wallets. Not the Meltdown attack specifically, mind you, but heretofore unknown exploits can and likely do exist for hardware wallets. Anyone who assumes otherwise is incredibly naive.

You have to trust their propietary RNG and you have to trust they will not have any leaks or try to phone home as we have seen already with Trezor

Generally I can't trust hardware wallets. Linux airgaped computer is the best, because you are never online, but the problem is crafting the raw transaction because the Core client has no other way to do it, I still have to practice that with testnet coins before I consider myself safe to do it with real money.

Same here. I wish that Core wallets were capable of signing transactions in an air-gapped (un-synced) environment. The next best thing is Electrum, which has various weaknesses.
26  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Is Ledger Nano S REALLY SAFE ?? Best Hardware Wallet ? on: January 21, 2018, 10:10:36 AM
Everyone says to buy a hardware wallet. Could anybody explain to me how much of a threat this is? Regarding Ledger:

Quote
Last I checked they use shared attestation to bootstrap trust for device pairing. (That’s really bad, but not as bad as their first product that used a shared secret on a plastic card, that you would enter in parts over time via the untrustworthy device).
Quote
Attestation is proving the device, type using a challenge response pattern. Given the claim is of type, not instance, the proof is based on a common secret retained by each device of the same type. This is what makes attestation distinct from authentication (identity).
Quote
I used the qualifier “shared” to emphasize that attestation uses a secret that is shared across devices of the same type (possibly divided into lots). The secure element is not used by credit cards in this manner, instead each card is manufactured with a unique (identity) secret.
Quote
So you do not get anything like “bank level” security despite using the same hardware.

Also this:
Quote
HW wallets are definitely hacking targets now. Regardless of boot security, they have 2 very high risk attack vectors: - Jailbreak style infection/persistence. - USB hack while connected. Don't trust them more than: - computer you connect it too. - who had physical access.

Should I spread around the risk and not keep most/all of my coins on a hardware wallet? The idea of keeping my private keys plugged into the USB drive does kind of freak me out.
27  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: PSA: Electrum has a critical security vulnerability on: January 07, 2018, 06:34:49 AM
What's the proper way to update? If I download and install the new version, is there any chance of losing my wallet files? Will the 3.0.4 version be able to read my wallet files, or will I need to import my seed?

I assume I'll lose all of my notes if I import from seed, right? That's sort of a bummer. I was using it to keep records of the transactions, but now I'm afraid to open my wallet. Undecided
28  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Why is this happening to exchanges? Please do help! on: December 26, 2017, 04:12:22 AM
1Fox (launched by the guys behind 1Broker, which is an awesome service) is supposed to launch anytime now. ETA was December 24th. I guess there are some last minute hiccups. Fingers crossed that they'll be offering altcoin markets. On 1Broker, they only offered a BTCUSD market, but their Twitter describes 1Fox as a "leveraged cryptocurrency trading" platform.

manchester93 may I ask where did you get information people still losing their Tokens?

On Twitter.

I just don't understand how to withdraw the ETH using MEW. When I use the "withdraw" function I get "Warning! Error encountered during contract execution [Bad instruction]" and the transaction doesn't confirm. Why?

The "deposit" function works fine, but obviously that just puts more in the smart contract.....

EDIT: Found the answer. Need to use proper unit. https://twitter.com/EthereumBlue/status/943925235098816519

Glad to have my funds safe now. I can finally sleep! Smiley

I got out most of my ETH and all my tokens. But I still have a couple ETH in the smart contract. How can I get it out? When I use the "withdraw" function in MEW, it only reads my wallet amount (~empty), not the amount in the smart contract.

You will need to open EtherDelta and withdraw from ED website. Second option is use MyEtherWallet to withdraw ETH from smart contract to wallet. here is a link to video tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=slru097RrfM&feature=youtu.be

Is it safe to open ED right now? I saw the announcement on Twitter, but people are still reporting losing money.

The error says I don't have enough funds. I have 0 ETH in my "wallet" and 1.16 ETH in the Etherdelta contract. Does the gas fee come from my wallet? Is that why I get the error, because I can't cover the gas?
32  Economy / Speculation / Re: Legacy addresses > speculation of fees in the next two years on: December 17, 2017, 10:09:05 AM
It would be great to hear from more people as to what they are doing with their old legacy addresses. I am less inclined to move them just yet, certainly I am starting to think about moving them. Thanks for your responses.

Quite a few airdrops have required signed messages. You can't do that with Segwit. I've no need to move coins so they'll stay in legacy addresses for now.

Not many airdrops worth claiming. I'm not touching my cold storage private keys for airdrops! I imagine BTG and BCH value will eventually plummet, but hey, I never thought BTC would go this far, this fast. Maybe they'll survive too. It's kinda cool having all the forks intact. Smiley

Looks like they waited for the daily close, then it instantly pumped $800. Altcoins like ETH/LTC/XRP that were rallying hard are instantly bleeding. The market seems to expect new all-time highs for BTC. What kind of upside should we expect once price makes new highs?
35  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 11, 2017, 08:10:36 AM
It's interesting to see that even some old-timers seem to be in disbelief. If we took a poll of people around in 2013, I wonder how many of them survived the bear market and managed to overcome the disbelief required to HODL until now.....
36  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How can I short USDT? on: December 04, 2017, 02:51:54 AM
Thanks for mentioning Kraken.

I contacted support and they informed me that I could short USDT/USD, but it would have to be on margin.

Shorting always requires margin because it requires borrowing. You are borrowing USDT to sell short in this situation.

The margin rate is 0.01% per 4 hours which is 24.48% annualized (1.0001 ^ (6 * 365) - 1).

As an example, if I hold for one year, I would have to cover at $0.7552 just to break even.

In my view, the margin rate makes this trade unprofitable.

I would be willing to pay around 10% annualized.

For sure, that's crazy expensive. Only justified if you are trading intraday or at least only holding for a few days. There are much better opportunities in crypto trading than speculating on USDT....

38  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Etherdelta trading on: December 02, 2017, 12:31:55 AM
Etherdelta allows trading for most erc20 coins. But it's not very straightforward to use so learn how to use it first.

It's pretty easy as long as you read all of the descriptions and understand that interacting with the order book means sending transactions to the blockchain.

One thing to be careful of with Etherdelta: They do very little due diligence when adding new tokens. Sometimes they add FAKE tokens where the contract address does not match listed ticker symbol. For example, Trade.io's TIO token is not the "TIO" that is trading on Etherdelta. It's just a fake token that people are fooled into buying based on the ticker symbol.

Warned ya.. a million times.

Enjoy your decentralized currency crap Investards  Cheesy

No surprise there. I've been telling people for years: if you trade on Coinbase (and now on Gemini or Bitflyer US), you better pay your taxes. These exchanges put compliance before all else. And the IRS is up their ass.

Segwit with Core 0.14.x
The Segwit opens up new possibilities like the Lightning Network, Tumblebit, Schnorr Signatures, Confidential Transactions, Cross-chain atomic swaps, and so on.
We are already exploring all these new functions, and testing the water. We expect the first implementations as fast as possible.

Kind Regards Christian

Congratulations! I've been nervously waiting for activation. It seems everything is working smoothly! Smiley
