Cryptsy working pretty well with trading DGB. They might be #1 over CEX.IO as they continue to have withdrawal issues.

YC

I keep seeing people say cryptsy sucks and stuff, but there's not that many large exchanges that reliable so far (I haven't found any big issues yet there). Before mintpal blowed up it was about even with cryptsy anyway so I guess all the trading was just redirected there.
22  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ★★ DigiByte ★ 极特币★★ [DGB] ✈ ✔ v3.0.2 pushed to Github! on: October 19, 2014, 03:38:58 PM
Does anyone have a calculator that does the following?

Inputs in current DGB, BTC and USD prices. If you think put in future pricing, you can generate an ROI. It would allow you to change pricing of BTC and DGB respectively to see what the fiat investment is worth. Here is an example.

Current:

BTC: $400
DGB: 20
Investment: $1000

Future:

BTC: $700
DGB: 50
Investment: ?
ROI: ?

Would be very helpful. Any ideas?

YC

The math is very simple, the rate is (BTC_end*(DGB/BTC end) / (BTC_init* (dgb/BTC init))
that in your case is 700*50/(400*20)

multiply all by the initial investment (1000 in your case) and you get how much is your investment worth at the end.

For more complicatedthings there are probably better tools but for this stuff a pocket calculator is more than enough

If I got your question right Tongue
23  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ★★ DigiByte ★ 极特币★★ [DGB] ✈ ✔ v3.0.2 pushed to Github! on: October 19, 2014, 08:28:06 AM
Finally got back my money from mintpal. I guess they are honest fellows afterall Tongue I stumbled on a bug it seems but now all's fine.

Looking forward to news! but I'd like to throw the rock once again: multi-algo + aux-pow= safest pow coin ever, multialgo alone makes a 51% attack just a bit trickier. I see some people ideologically against merge mining, but considering the total value of the mined dgb a day is little over 1 BTC (or am I wrong?) so the cost of a 51% attack trough rented miners should be in the order of the few hundred dollars a day, that's chips. Even when dgb price rises you still have to consider that its hashrate is distributed trough 5 algorithms, so the miners of each algo get 1/5th of the total, making the hashrate go down the drain

If you mergemine with the main coins and orphan the blocks with lowest -estimated- "actual" difficulty (dunno if that's how it works already) then a 51% attack becomes as hard as 51% attacking all the coins alltoghether, making it cost in the order of milion dollars a day.

Lastly, there are bound to be many coins around for each popular algorithm, and as we've seen even BTC does not totally monopolize sha, it's normal that we'll have a few big players in the mining industry, this means that if even the largest coins don't work together to build up hashrate they'll all be under the 51% attack threat from a "rogue" miner. Even if dgb becomes the N1 coin, it'll still have hashrate issues (especially since it's a multi algorythm coin) unless it's merge mined.

Forking is usually bad, but since dgb is still in a somewhat letargic period it's better to do all the forkings now than later.

My withdrawal went through perfectly. It may be confusing because of the big text box below, but you don't need to put anything in there.
It IS confusing. Anyway the withdrawal is manual? I have requested it quite a bit ago

Took less than 3 hours for mine to go through

As of now the withdrawas still is not processed. I put the dgb address where it says withdrawal address but it disappeared as I ressed save canges so I added a not ein the big box below asking to send the dgb to my address, no answer as of yet...

Quoting Moolah tweet;

Despite what you may be thinking, MintPal withdrawal is still coming today at around 4PM GMT.

Keep a eye on it and withdraw immediately.

Erm, how do you actually request a withdrawal though? I can login and I see my balance, but don't see any way to withdraw

Must say that the last error message "MintPal is currently down for urgent bug fixes, and is additionally moving to new management (away from Moopay LTD). A statement will follow shortly." brings some hope back

the fact that they specified "away from Moopay" seepms to imply "these guys screwed up, not us". But anyway I was an idiot for not withdrawing my coins when I could Tongue

Guys, maybe getting something viral. Easy, cheap and effective.

Maybe start a youtube channel called 'I want Digibyte' where people do a short video of themselves saying "I want Digibyte" doing something funny, silly or just weird and people send them Digibyte via their digibyte address if they like it?

Besides, people are the most powerful tool.

Look at the ice bucket challenge....
The science behind a video that goes viral is a pretty complicated one. Kudos if someone manages to make one, but don't think it's easy.

The ice bucket challenge, for example, uses the "challenge" to give a chance for people to show off, and the charity thing is actually an excuse. The gangnam style or all other "silly" stuff that go viral have often uses the meme mechanism (see dogecoin, as a semisuccessful example thereof).

I mean, go for it, but don't expect great results.

Speaking of which, myriad dudes just started to work on "myriadparty", a counterparty clone, any chances of something like that being implemented on digibyte? maybe, since forks are still possible, something more organic than a meta-protocol?

I lose 2 BTC about a "mistake" by cryptsy when I use the support I get 1 week later anser and they say: it's your problem...

What happened?
31  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ★★ DigiByte ★★ [DGB] ✈ ✔ MultiAlgo v3.0.1 officially released! Mandatory Update! on: October 07, 2014, 01:22:36 PM
I always trade on cryptsy. Are the other ones better?

I used mintpal & cryptsy.

People complained about cryptsy, why?  i dont know. always great support on tickets etc.
Mintpal i don't trust anymore.   I think they will have a attack or something just because people got mad because of the delay.

Got a few buys on cex.io, Really looks good!
Can't say a thing about there support with problems or so.

Lazycoins.com looks good, easy to use,   just no volume.

I agree, cryptsy is the one exchange that never failed. It also has the greatest echange volume for a number of coins. They never update the interface, but so long as thy don't lose money it's fine I guess. Almost all the other exchanges have a worse track record than cryptsy.
32  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ★★ DigiByte ★★ [DGB] ✈ ✔ MultiAlgo v3.0.1 officially released! Mandatory Update! on: October 06, 2014, 09:02:50 AM
Excellent job! Well done!

As far as the different types of initiatives go, why not a couple of simultaneous ongoing efforts? Maybe the a periodic tipping similar to today's that's linked to a wallet install, with a tip like you were using today, and then an "any time you like" follow-up tip - that's a bit larger - for going over to DigiByteTalk, registering, and posting the same address with a link to their original reddit tip in order to get that second, larger, more succulent tip? That's just idea, but when thinking about what you were saying about the visibility-engagement balance, that might be an interesting combination.

Hmm, I think there's a problem with "any time you like" promotions: the sense of urgency forces people to rush to the link, most people have a very short memory, if they don't come back within one day they don't come back at all, almost all promotions in the world rush people to come ASAP lest they lose the incredible occasion, even if many of them just actually going to renew that very same offer the day after (note, this trick is kinda rough, I think they can get off with it because they have a lot of money to put in ads, and people keep forgetting things 'cause they don't care, see car sales, you don't buy a car every month, so the trick works, sure not so with dgb).

Also, by the way, we'd need some way to avoid multiple subscriptions: 1k digibytes start becoming a serious sum, with 500 subscriptions you actually make up for a day of work sort of, maybe someone with an actual job won't bother, but surely this is attractive enough for the kiddo who wants some pocket money.

I think limited, over-the-weekend events offer the best low budget results here.

Of course there's more that can be done other than just giveaways, the giveaway is really simple, as you could see you just need some 2 dollars and people come, but with some organization and a little media coverage we can do a  lot of other stuff, especially if it happens at the same time as the  launch of some new dgb tech.

LOL! Digibyte disabled on Bittrex for nearly two weeks. Blockchain issues, pending update...
Now I see:

This market is in danger of de-listing due to low trade volume and lack of user interest. It may be removed on October 10th unless the average daily trade volume for the last 7 days exceeds 0.1 BTC.

The issue they are experiencing is simply fixed by restarting the wallet with "digibyted -reindex". We have contacted them once again to have them restart their wallet. Even the Bitcoin client has this problem from time to time. No other exchange has reported this issue.

Has anyone tried trading on CEX.io yet?  https://cex.io/

Never tried using cex, but all people I know seem to suggest against it.

Anyway, the download link for android wallet does not work yet (it only points to the page, see for yourself http://www.digibyte.co/download-digibyte ). It's a pretty big deal as a lot of users would like to use the android wallet (two complaned about it during the giveaway, maybe more tried but didn't complain). Either remove the link or place a functional one!

What do you guys think about the future profitability of Digibyte's?
To be honest, you must consider most of digibytes haven't been mined yet. Meaning the current 150k dollars cap should actually be viewed as a 1M$ cap for the long term.

However if dgb goes anywhere over 1M$ (and hopefully it will) it's a good investment for the long term.

Humm guys, dunno if you noticed but mintpal is down (and with that about 1/4rth of my digibytes are nowhere to be found Sad ) This is bad news as mintpal is our first exchange beside criptsy (or even before cryptsy, some times). Do you now something? any plans to bring it up soon?

Ignore mintpal being down they will be back up soon they have been migrating into the new exchange and take over so expect a bumpy ride for next few days while they sort things out.

Wow, this is great, my coins are safe Cheesy
36  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ★★ DigiByte ★★ [DGB] ✈ ✔ MultiAlgo v3.0.1 officially released! Mandatory Update! on: October 05, 2014, 03:50:11 PM

Okay, here's another one from yours truly.  Wink

I like the idea to giveaway some free DGB for installing the wallet. That's really neat, and I'm sure there are very good ways to confirm the new install.

I also like the idea of including a random "super-tip" (let's say that if new installs would get 1000 DGB, then the random "super-tip" would be like 10,000 every once in a while, for example).

Problems: reddit forum limitations and/or restrictions and BitCoinTalk giveaway thread prohibition.

So, these are really not places that are adequately suited to host this kind of ongoing event (and I would make it ongoing).

So, here it is: the actual giveaway could be done on DigiByte's own forum ( http://digibytetalk.com/ ) giving new users incentive to register for the first time and post their new wallet install info in order to get their free coins, and giveaway promotions like this weekend's would serve to steer people to the DigiByteTalk forum where they would register and then post.

Of course, anyone from the DigiByte community could tip (perhaps getting contributors here to register and post over there as well), and if someone wanted to throw out a random 100,000 or so, just for the hell of it (from time to time), that would seriously liven things up as well.

Maybe we might even begin to see the start of a serious eventual migration . . . that will come sooner or later in any event.

Very interesting idea. I'm not sure a hard verification  of the wallet install is needed: most people seem unaware that they can use an online wallet. I didn't realize how much reddit was limited until I did this event, however I still think digibyte presence on reddit is too low, good or bad it's still the one most influental social network for coins, besides twitter perhaps (but twitter favors low-engagement activities while reddit favors staying).

On this note @digibyte many users noted they can't download the android wallet, and the link brings them back to the main page, this is a pretty big issue.

About how this giveaway turned out (so far) and the lessons for the future:

Firstly it didn't attract as many users as I though, and it's a good thing: the fact there's a lot of text at the start of the giveaway and the rules of the giveaway are somewhere in the middle forced people to actually read, most of those who just wanted to say hi and get tipped without doing anything went away. More than a half of the participants went trough the trouble of getting a digibyte address, and most installed the client (some tried to install the android wallet,, but see above...).

In this way the extra complication of adding the address and going to another thread forced people to stay a bit more. Mind: we could use a more complicate giveaway to tip more the few more engaged users, or a simpler giveaway to get more people to view the initiative, or a multiple initiative (eg 10 dgb on dogecoin 100 on digibyte thread and 1000 on digibyte forum).

Afterall visibility vs engagement is not an easy balance to strike, you must never forget either when you plan a PR initiative. A multiple difficulty approach favors more engagement actually, as the same user may come to all giveaways, and therefore spend some 10-30 minutes on digibyte. (Note that the complication of changing threads was intentional, I planned that much, although the address escomotage was only devised at game open and turned out pretty nice)

8 new users subscribed to digibyte during the giveaway meaning at least some 1-3rd are actually committed to keep an eye on dgb.

On another note: the dogecoin community is not new to tippings, and is very friendly towards digibyte, doing the same initiative with other coins, or with non-cryptocurrency users may be a lot more difficult.

At the end I chose not to advertise this event too much so as not to get entangled in case it turned out bad, since all went well we can make a louder and more concerted event next time Cheesy.

Goodwork guys!  Sorry i'm afk right now Sad    i will spend 150.000 digibyte tomorrow!!!

Can get some tweets out now.

https://twitter.com/Alttrade/status/518505114026651648

great! keep some digibytes for the drawing contest.

Since we've got a lot to tip and not so many people come I think we should have this event too: people who draws the best "dogecoin with digibyte" friendship illustration will get a substantial prize. This way we'll get more ppl into the giveaway!
40  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ★★ DigiByte ★★ [DGB] ✈ ✔ MultiAlgo v3.0.1 officially released! Mandatory Update! on: October 04, 2014, 06:12:45 PM
The digibyte dogecoin tipping event has started http://www.reddit.com/r/dogecoin/comments/2ia3dc/first_digibytedogecoin_friendship_giveaway/ (finally reddit let me post Cheesy) anybody who wishes to partecipate, by both commenting or tipping, is welcome!

Like they say, every cloud has a silver lining: I really like how you ended up linking the tipping to a direct DGB address (and wallet install if necessary).

Saw how someone didn't even know who DigiByte was and asked if the wallet install was safe! Amazing!

Hope you have a good day with it and good luck.

P.S. You might post a link to the OP as well. Wink

Yeah, it's great that people who didn't know about digibyte, or had forgot about it, came. Cheesy The dogecoin community has grown a lot since digishield, and most of them don't know about digibyte, so it's a great time to make a comeback (while the "elders" haven't forgotten us yet Smiley )

I forgot to mention the multialgorithm in the dogecoin thread part, but I see some people brought that up too, maybe it's better this way as they find out dgb is actually great, rather than having us boast about our merits Cheesy

and oops @digibyte -and the others- this is where we're holding the giveaway http://www.reddit.com/r/Digibyte/comments/2ia1q0/dogecoindigibyte_giveaway/

the rule is simply post your digibyte address and get tipped (I added a doge tip to add some spice, one can just tip digibytes), the tipper should comment to tell he did the tip of course

the thread in dogecoin is for discussion (as they don't let wallet-posting happen)

PS: since we already made it to the dogecoin frontpage I suppose we'll see a lot of people coming between now and tomorrow evening Cheesy

ah @24hralttrade do you want to hold a tipping event on twitter anytime soon? If you do it next week or so we can advertise it now. (But I don't want to be the one who starts it)
