21  Economy / Speculation / Re: How many bitcoins do I need to retire in 20 years? on: July 23, 2015, 07:27:03 PM
Let us speculate in a positive way.

If Bitcoin were to replace all international trade and we divide it by available coins (say 20 million) then Bitcoin would be worth between 2 and 5 million dollars.
Now, let us be a bit more realistic, say Bitcoin catches 10% of international trade. That leaves 200k to 500k Bitcoin. Let's pick 200K Bitcoin and halve that for
whatever factors I'm not taking into consideration. That leaves $100,000 dollar Bitcoin.

Now, you may decide how many Bitcoins you will require for retirement.

Meanwhile, lets consider that unicorns and fairies are real!

Numbers like you're talking about would require entire countries to use BTC as their currency.

I'm curious why you're listing the prices in $ when you're selling them for BTC?

Because BTC prices fluctuate like mad, whenever a sale is settled, the BTC can be calculated.

I see batch prices but would you be willing to sell say one antminer s5 solo (no power supply) and if so at what price?

If they don't sell in pairs in a few days I'll break them out, sure.

Since you brought ebay and paypal into the discussion as a point of comparison I need to ask..

If I am reading right you are offering 2 SP20 and 1 EVGA PSU for $1100 not including shipping, since you made the point about getting more on ebay and paypal I want to make sure i am reading it right since that is right in the middle of ebay pricing, perhaps I am not tracking with what costs $1100

Right now an SP20 on ebay sells for around $600 - $650 if you look at completed auctions, and that's without a PSU.  So you'd spend at least 1200 bucks on a pair and still have to shell out 100 - 180 for a PSU depending on what you buy.

Or an average of just over $500, hence my question.. In any case thanks for confirming...

Huh, maybe I'm wrong about the price, if so I'll adjust mine accordingly.

edit: just looked, I see a few low at 500, bunch in the mid 500s and a couple of buy it nows higher, so with the PSU I think my pricing is still fair, if not quite a deal.  We'll see how interest is Smiley

Did we have a pool restart a few minutes ago?

Record - 406%.
Nope, we've seen bigger.

Good half night sweet prince, you didn't quite make it to ROI land.  Sad

31  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S4 Discussion and Support Thread on: July 11, 2015, 04:39:12 AM
Antminer S4 is very noisy. Is there a way to make them silent? Any super silent fans/model for it? What do you recommend?

Yes, find a good hosting provider and send it there.

Then its silent. :p

So what would cause this:

About 6 hours ago I got an alert because the speed dropped on one of my S5s, it dropped to around 850gh/sec, when I logged in and checked two asics are just gone.

I haven't been able to physically inspect the box yet, but its sitting in a controlled datacenter, power draw was normal until it suddenly dropped about 10%

Bitmain you have a littel bug in your last firmware for the s5.

As i spoted the last days if the internet conection stops at antminer s5 the temperatura raises up to 90-100 C.

And the cooleres are at 1200 RPM

So i guess the controller firmware is fucked up somewhere.

This has been known for quite a while and Bitmain has yet to say anything about it.

I had to write a script that turns off power at the PDU if internet drops.
34  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Bitcoin Mining Help on: June 28, 2015, 05:35:05 PM
that is true. you can mine for fun but dont expect to make a profit.

you should go to the mining section and read more about it:

I don't get this old wheeze, it was the same thing I heard last year.  I've been mining since November with about 20TH.  I've ROI'd all the boxes (sp20s and S5s) and am at a pure profit at this point.

That said, I don't think this is a good time to invest in mining gear.  We're going to see the next gen of chips within the next 6 months and the difficulty change may make it impossible to ROI unless you have really cheap electricity.
People have been saying how unprofitable mining is practically since mining began.  Like you, all of my gear has long since made back my initial investment.  Sure, my S3s are pretty much at the end of their life given current conditions (difficulty, exchange rate, etc).  That hasn't stopped me yet. Smiley

Yeah, I hear you.

I'm about to build out a hosting operation in Washington state to host my own gear and expand my pool, but I'm pretty nervous about purchasing anything in the current gen of chipsets at his point.

The best way to do it is if you get a solar array...work out the chinks of how much squared space you need per panel and how many miners you can hook up to that thing at 75% output, consider favorable weather conditions depending on where you live. Even if you go to the desert you're still not safe, due to sandstorms and external phenomena.

If you do it off-grid it's a feasible and scalable operation. But you still need a hefty initial investment to generate enough money out of the system. Good luck on getting someone to fork you the money. I actually thought of pitching it to my local bank as an idea for an investment, but then again you need collateral in case btc takes a nose dive.

Electricity is so cheap in WA state that its not worth the investment in solar, not to mention half the year with rain and cloudcover, but its something I'd love to set up in Southern California Smiley

Nice investigative work.  I don't have any overhead really right now in my PSUs to turn up the clock, but maybe I'll switch some things around in the near future.

Don't join a dating site. Why:
  • Often, a dating site has much many males than females
  • Even a verified but ugly women gets more private messages then she's able to answer properly
  • Danger of loosing money due to the boys who are doing ewhoring
  • Sometimes even the operators are faking "verified" girl profiles in order to get you stay there ...
  • ... until you get locked out off your account if you don't pay for "premium" features, just before your first "date"
  • Finally: no girl really needs a dating site to find a nice guy

Met my wife on Yahoo Dating.

Had no problem with several dating sites.

OgNasty provided escrow for a purchase for me a couple of months back, I just totally spaced replying in his thread.

He was fast, and provided the service without issue.  Will use again Smiley

Thanks OgNasty.

There's some decent answers in this thread, and some awful ones.

It all comes down to confidence.  That trumps everything.  It trumps looks and money and cars and every other superficial thing here.  The kind of girl you're going to attract because of your wallet or car isn't the kind of girl you're going to want to stay with any amount of time, because the next guy with a bigger wallet or better car will cause her to wander.

Read beefcake's post, then read it again, then print it out and read it.

You have to have confidence in yourself and what you do, then having the confidence to talk to women is simple.

I'm fat, I've been fat all my life, but confidence has never been an issue for me, so women have never been an issue for me.  I believe in myself, when you do that, others believe in you as well and you're attractive as a mate.
