21  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Timed Retarget on: May 11, 2013, 05:50:37 AM
Who's time?  Time in a decentralized network isn't deterministic.

Say x minutes pass so some nodes lower difficulty and one finds a block however due to differences in clocks some nodes believe it has been < x minutes.

HARD FORK TIME.  Some nodes believe the lower difficulty block is valid and some believe it isn't.  There is no resolution possible.

Hard fork time ?

Really someone just needs to implement it with high r values and see what kind of hash rates they get.  I don't think an r leading to 512 MB of RAM required will be that catastrophic.

Here you go:

About 8 seconds per hash attempt with 512 megabytes, so it'd take 18 days to verify the initial download of a blockchain with 200,000 blocks.

ouch.

Basically everyone would have to run it through an electrum server of some sort.

I vote the name of the coin to be ElectrumCoin.
24  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: A better explanation of BitBar? on: May 05, 2013, 07:14:13 PM
Because this Smiley

Now we know why Sunny King set the initial PPCoin difficulty at 256 instead of 0
25  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Feathercoin: First Vircurex, then btc-e, then MtGox? But wait ... on: May 03, 2013, 06:51:18 PM
One of Feathercoin's advantage is that you get bigger block rewards (200) rather than Litecoin (50), so miners will like it.
And it's like a fresh version of Litecoin, so everyone can join in, and mine from the start together.
26  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] BitBar New POW-POS scrypt CryptoCoin on: May 03, 2013, 11:01:25 AM
Each block is taking between 1 -> 5 minutes now so it's definitely much harder to find a block. At 520 blocks to mature mining earnings I still have mined earnings from 8 hours ago that haven't fully matured yet.

My last found block was over 4 hours ago. Hoping to hit 2 more blocks so I can break the 5 BTB barrier.

EDIT: The reward is lower than 0.24 for sure. My last block was found at 6:19am BST and got a reward of 0.226562.

0.24 BitBar reward per block ?
With 0.01 standard transaction fees on btc-e, this coin won't get anywhere.

Withdrawal fees on BTC-E :
LTC : 0.5
TRC : 0.01
FTC : 0.01
NVC : 0.01
PPC : 0.01

Novacoin starts at 20 reward per block and decreased to 11.62 (lose 50% its value in 3 months).
BitBar starts at 1 reward per block and decreased to 0.24 now (lose 75% of its value in 1 day).

inb4 BitBar fork, ByteBar which starts block reward at 8 coins per block.
27  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Testnet Bitcoins (TBC) Quadruple in Difficulty on: May 02, 2013, 01:55:26 AM
how much is a TBC worth?

Minimum difficulty of 1.0 on testnet is equal to difficulty of 0.5 on mainnet. This means that the mainnet-equivalent of any testnet difficulty is half the testnet difficulty.
In addition if no block has been found in 20 minutes, the difficulty automatically resets back to the minimum.

With the Feathercoin exchange open, it seems network hash rate grows day by day.
We break 1 GHash/s network hash rate today, congratulations.
Another difficulty update :

Previous difficulty : 23.883
Previous network hashrate   : 749,749 KHash/s

Current difficulty : 27.497 (+15.13% from previous)
Current network hashrate : 1,029,228 KHash/s (+37.276% from previous)

Next difficulty : 38.341731700059 (+39.43% from current)

29  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: FeatherCoin - New Litecoin based coin on: April 28, 2013, 04:53:24 PM
It is official. We are changing to FTC taking on the family name from BTC and LTC. It seems right.

Time for a new binary ?
It's better to change the amount in the wallet from xxx FC to xxx FTC as soon as possible.
30  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Feathercoin opening trade day 1FC = 0.05 LTC and going up on: April 28, 2013, 03:54:59 AM

0.03 - 0.05 ?
People that buy 71k LTC from Cyberdyne and Rawted doubled his profit.

Buy 71k FTC @ 0.02 = 1420 LTC
Sell 71k FTC @ 0.03 = 2130 LTC (+710 LTC profit)
Sell 71k FTC @ 0.05 = 3550 LTC (+2130 LTC profit)

Not to mention people that buy it at very low price as 0.01
Buy 70k FTC @ 0.01 = 700 LTC
Sell 70k FTC @ 0.03 = 2100 LTC (+1400 LTC profit)
Sell 70k FTC @ 0.05 = 3500 LTC (+2800 LTC profit)

Standard price on Googledoc book order :
1000 FTC = 20 LTC
1 FTC = 20/1000 LTC
1 FTC = 0.02 LTC

Lowest price :
1000 FTC = 10 LTC
1 FTC = 10/1000 LTC
1 FTC = 0.01 LTC

Lesson ? If  you really need to sell your coins, don't sell it off-exchange.
And this is just the beginning. Who knows if the coins shoot to 0.1 later.
31  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Feathercoin about to launch on Cryptonit ! on: April 27, 2013, 11:03:52 AM
Does it ? You mean did it when it opened ? I don't know, you tell me. I wasn't there when it happened.

It doesn't matter.
What does matter is the current price now is 0.00245
Which means if you buy it from someone that sell it to you for 0.00001, you make 245x profit.
32  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Feathercoin about to launch on Cryptonit ! on: April 27, 2013, 09:52:03 AM

What do you think will happen ?

What do you think is the price of PPCoin now ?
Does it crash to 0.00001 when BTC-E open it ?
33  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [FC] Potential 51% attack from fc.dontmine.me? on: April 26, 2013, 12:09:34 PM
I just noticed that fc.dontmine.me has just found 6 blocks in a row:

At the time of writing, the hashrate of fc.dontmine.me is 376.29 MH/s, while the whole FC network is 669.64 MH/s.

FC has checkpoint, don't worry about it too much and fc.dontmine.me already closed registration.
New FC miners will join a new pool.

Quote
Registration has been temporarily closed due to the large hash rate on this server relative to the total hash power of the network.
It will reopen when the pool/network hash rate (56.16%) drops below 35%

35  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: @ the end of the BFL queue on: April 26, 2013, 11:28:51 AM
If you already ordered Jalapeno / ASIC / blah blah blah, make sure to place a bet on (trusted) betting sites against BFL delivering.

BFL deliver -> you get your free btc maker.
BFL doesn't deliver -> You get free money from betting sites.

Hedging, how does it work ?
And yes, the one that place 250 BTC is a BFL employee.

April 2013 :
In : 250 BTC
Out : 500 BTC

May 2013 :
In : 500 BTC
Out : 1000 BTC

June 2013 :
In : 1000 BTC
Out : 2000 BTC

2000 BTC for 3 months.
You can continue this until December and x2 your BTC every time.
36  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What is the easiest way to sell litecoins? on: April 26, 2013, 10:53:06 AM
1. Sell your LTC for BTC-E in BTC-E, transfer your BTC back to MtGox and withdraw to your bank account.

2. Sell your LTC for BTC-E in BTC-E, transfer your BTC back to Bitstamp, use BitInstant to transfer your Bitstamp coupon to Paypal.
37  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: FeatherCoin Exchange Bounty Claimed on: April 26, 2013, 10:41:30 AM
I don't like multiple currency exchange, vircurex style :

FRC / LTC
PPC / NVC

It's better to tie everything to USD / BTC :
LTC / BTC,
FC / BTC,

just like BTC-E's style, but that's just my opinion.

Interesting. I don't know why Terracoin developer starts Terracoin's address with 1, not T.

That will cause a conflict with BTC address, glad it's sorted out now for OP.

This is going to be worked on this weekend by the same person who created the mining calculator and stats pages.

http://benhohner.com/feathercoin/statistics.php

I have created a zip with a 256x256 PNG and favicon.ico file of the winning logo.

www.feathercoin.com/iconset.zip

That's fast.
Well, difficulty update for today :

In two days, the difficulty will change from 23.883 to 36.51 (+52.87%)
In one month, it's possible that the difficulty may become bigger than 100.

For comparison, at the moment Novacoin's difficulty is 120.115 and Litecoin is 404.82
