21  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Bitcoin Private Key vs. Alt-coin Private Key on: June 06, 2017, 05:45:31 PM
Let's assume the alt-coin here is one that starts with 1, as Bitcoin does. But it is not Bitcoin. I have this question:

Assuming that you know how Bitcoin private keys are generated, and you also know how litecoin private keys are generated, is it possible to convert one to the other?

Assume you have this information:
Bitcoin private key
Bitcoin address
Alt-coin address

Is there a procedure to convert the Bitcoin private key into the corresponding alt-coin private key? Also assume that both the alt-coin address and bitcoin addresses are the exact same. e.g. if it is 1hHdv4... for Bitcoin, it is 1hHdv4... for the alt-coin as well. Yes, it is possible for this to exist.

22  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Trezor Payment Confirmed by BTC but not by Trezor on: June 06, 2017, 05:30:25 PM
Trezor doesn't give payment confirmations afaik. Your balance should be visible on wallet.trezor.io when you plug it in, or whatever application you use for your Trezor.

I've never heard of this problem happening before, if wallet.trezor.io does not show it, try an alternative wallet that supports it (there's alot, such as Multibit HD, but I don't recommend using that wallet).

Could you tell me what "All section" means? I have 23 posts but paid out for 20.
24  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: "no transmission fee" seems to be a lie. wtf? on: July 18, 2015, 11:15:12 PM
If you dont want to pay a tx fee, that shouldn't be a problem it just takes more time to confirm. It's an incentive for miners to mine your transaction if you add tx fee.

but weather or not the tx will be confirmed also depends on other factors as well, such as number of inputs/outputs, amount transacted, etc.

Yup correct, but I wouldn't recommend it especially with the ongoing stress tests Smiley
25  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin - How am I going to pay? on: July 18, 2015, 11:11:51 PM
Which wallet should I use then, could you please recommend one? I want to make it as frictionless as possible.
MultiBit and Electrum both support opening Bitcoin links.

I wouldn't recommend MultiBit. I'll recommend Electrum for this

There are no problems with blockchain.info

29  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: WOW BTC-e is so huge!!!! on: July 18, 2015, 11:04:36 PM
I myself just knew about this forum a little more than a month ago but that was about the time I knew about BTC, Pretty much everything related to bitcoins redirects you back to this forum.
I prefer BTC-E myself as although it's a little shady but not as stingy as the other exchanges in verification as far as I remember.

I can't believe BTC-E still exists those days Smiley. Only thing, nobody knows who the owners are.

To save a long, boring post - Follow the instructions on this video - http://youtu.be/872eSnlKUeg

Create the paper wallet at https://bitaddress.org

Simple!

Or bitcoinpaperwallet.com you can print more wallets. Works great
33  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I have 0.02 btc , want to invest on: July 18, 2015, 10:58:04 PM
Hello from India,
i am new on this forum but i have been earning bitcoin from faucets over last year.
i have 0.022 BTC with me , i hear a lot of people saying to join campaign how can i do that , i have 0.022 BTC want to invest to get profit, please help me.

you can buy a forum account with your .022BTC, a member rank i think and you can earn .02BTC+ per week in a signature campaign

This is a great tip, possibly the best one option out there.

but when buying an account, be sure to take all the necessary security measures and get a signed message stating that the account was sold to you. it will prevent any drama in the future should the seller try and reclaim that account.

Yes exactly. Is there a guide available for people that are interested to buy Bitcoin accounts?
34  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: If a Bitcoin wallet no longer works will i lose my bitcoins ? on: July 18, 2015, 10:56:18 PM
Noob here.  Huh  If I have bitcoins in a specific bitcoin client wallet (e.g. Amor, or Multibit HD, etc) and for some reason that wallet and its associated software client on my phone or pc no longer works (perhaps no longer supported by the operating system-- I have seen that happen with games, e.g. Diablo I, Diablo II games would not run on Windows 7), how would I get my bitcoin money? I don't understand if a bitcoin wallet from one specific software client is portable for importing into a different software client.  Of course one should backup one's wallet, but that won't do any good if the software client that creates the backup does so in its proprietary data file format.  Cold storage is one option I suppose, would that work, but still what if one did not want cold storage and its theft risks? Confused, and this seems important to me at least, so i know I would not lose my $ because of software no longer working.

Most wallets have a backup or recovery feature. Do not use a wallet that does not have a backup or recovery feature. You will be ok if you back up the wallet (or the seed) before you send bitcoins to it.

Yup with services like bitcoinpaperwallet.com it could be very easy to print one or more private keys and just send the BTC to it. Make sure you are not disconnected from the internet.
35  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: If a Bitcoin wallet no longer works will i lose my bitcoins ? on: July 18, 2015, 06:23:51 PM

I would get the private key.  With this make a paperwallet or usb drive with it (and might aswell backup wallet.dat to).

So make a few copies and store safely.  If something does go wrong you can easily move wallets with private key.  Do not store them online, or print at a public printer.

I recommend doing what notlist3d says. Best option to restore coins if the client doesnt work.
36  Other / Meta / Re: Trust network on: July 17, 2015, 11:26:50 PM
Some people are in the default trust. Like theymos, staff and some members. They showed that they are trustworthy so when they rate someone then this rating is seeable to everyone.

Ratings from persons not in default trust can only be seen when you click on the link to see them.
Actually, Default Trust is not seeable by everyone. You can set who is in your trust list, and the user DefaultTrust is automatically added to every account's trust list upon creation. You can create your own trust network by adding people that you trust to the trust list. This will let you see the trust ratings of people you trust.

So people can see official reputation only?

Always check/search on google before sending money to anyone
38  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Cold storage paper printout (how) ? on: July 17, 2015, 11:24:52 PM
You should check the trezor hardware wallet. Maybe overkill for 100$ worth of BTC.
39  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Did you earn some bitcoin today? on: July 16, 2015, 01:03:26 PM
yes few satoshi by faucets.

Do faucets pay you anything? IMO its not worth the small amount of satoshi you earn.

When i used to try faucets, the freebitcoin paid me but the amount is to low for that work and time spent in

Indeed, good paying faucets are all gone :\
40  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Help Recovering Electrum Password? on: July 16, 2015, 01:01:31 PM
No seed. No private keys.
Im 99% sure there is no other way to get the coins back.
