Yes thanks for the update.  Looking forward to progress and news that the 20nm design has taped out.

You also should have enabled the payment lock.
203  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast announces specs for new ASIC: 400GH/s on: January 08, 2014, 03:49:07 PM
I really hope you guys sue these pricks into the dirt and put them out of business forever.

The amount of disregard for customer interests on display is mindblowing.

120V 20A = 1920W  120*20*0.8
Do you mean: 2400w

No.  In the US a continual load can't use more than 80% of the circuits capacity.  I just realized the 0.8 got changed into a smiley so I fixed that.

So in the US a 120V, 20A circuit is rated for 2400W PEAK however continual loads should not exceed 80% of that  2400W * 0.80 = 1920W.

Higher current = higher heat.  House wiring is sized under the assumption that the load will vary and that is easier to cool.  Now you "can" pull 2400W from a 20A breaker continually but that would be a violation of the NEC as the wire would be under greater resistance that intended for continual use and the breaker won't trip.  In theory if the wiring was substandard, or faulty, or corroded due to age it "could" cause a fire.  Now the risk is probably pretty low but the Electrical Code is designed to be conservative because it involves people's lives.

I have no knowledge of European standards, outlets, or ratings but current, resistance, heat are pretty much universal so the same general concepts still apply.

Does that mean on one socket i cant go above 1920w 2400w! Is there some kind of ettiqute in terms of leaving some cushion or can you go pedal to the medal and use all the juice it can give?

Other than the 20% derate for continual loads, yes.  So the 1920W not the 2400W is the correct figure if you are running a load continually (like a 24/7 miner).

Quote
I take it this is for sockets in EU and not US, same with the connector on the pdu? ( NEMA L6-30R )

No.  NEMA is Noth American Electrical Manuacturers Association.  They are all US outlets.  The NEMA 5-15 is the "standard" US wall outlet.  The NEMA L6-30 is a 30A, 240V outlet which uses a locking connector.

Here is an example I just like the photo not trying to give this seller any business:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/APC-AP9571-1U-Rackmount-PDU-208V-24A-12-C13-Outlets-/261343426014?pt=US_Power_Distribution_Units&hash=item3cd94835de

There are tons and tons and tons of this PDU (PDU = fancy name for datacenter high current power strip).  APC probably makes a couple millions so there are always used ones on ebay for cheap.

It has a NEMA L6-30P plug.  The plug is rated for 30A but you will notice in the description it says 24A.   Why?  NEC requires that continual loads be derated 20%.  30A * 0.8 = 24A.  24A * 240V = 5760W.

Note the official specs are 208V because they were designed for datacenters but they work fine at 240V as well.  It is simply a "power strip" with circuit breaker there are no electronics which require a specific voltage.

So:
30A breaker ------> 10 AWG wiring -------> NEMA L6-30R outlet ------> AP9571 (w/ L6-30P plug).
You now have 5760W of mining power, done right and safe.  The PDU gives you 12 outlets so no matter how your rigs are configured you are good to go.

I ran 12KW of GPUs off three of these.  Smiley

This is great info thanks for the writeup D+T!

Just received this PM but I will address it publically.

Hi James

Are you able to share if the shutdown was due to a hack/theft like picostock/50btc ?

The shutdown of the pool is more due to my worrying about the pool than anything else. I want to provide the BEST pool possible, and in its current state, that is not possible.

To be clear, no coins have EVER been stolen from the pool nor is the shutdown due to any hacking attempts. I am very proud of the security measures used to make sure coins were safe.

There are not many pools around that can say this.

This pool was the best.  If you decide to do another public pool, I'll be there with my KnC rigs.

Moved my Jupiter to another pool.  Much thanks for hosting this one giga, as others have said it had a good run.  I'm sure the reason for its closure is legit.
207  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: December 02, 2013, 04:40:58 PM
Unfortunately, going to need to add KNC to a list of companies I won't be dealing with after seeing this price gouging and ordering shenanigans for this next gen. (Excuse me ? You honestly wanted me to order your products through resellers that I have even less trust in than you ?!?)

Congrats to everyone that got in on this at $10k.

Newbies pay $13k ? Yeah, sorry Sam. Will be dealing with your competitors instead on principle. Life is too short to deal with that sort of nonsense.

Its not just Newbies, thats the price for previous customers as well.

Are you completely discounting the events of last week where previous customers were able to order these for $10k ?

when all of us ordered month ago with knc, there was possibility we were gonna be scammed, knc offered that since we believed in them, they would offer us a perk for having faith in them, 3k off the neptune was that perk...

Agreed but I think even the discounted price was still excessive.  They have made a lot of money off us and could have cut the price further.  By Sam's own admission they are betting on HashFail and ConTerra not delivering on time or to spec.  The first batch Neptunes had better arrive quickly and destroy the competition so we make money again.
208  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast announces specs for new ASIC: 400GH/s on: November 29, 2013, 05:18:33 AM
i just picked up a Neptune, lets see if its delivered before hash fast.... lol

You mean you just ordered a Neptune. Huge difference. A KNC Neptune miner still has yet to be even be designed or anything. KNC just wanted to be first to post a new hardware so all the addicts would jump the gun and drop 10k on a rig that no one will see for 6 months. I only wish you the best of luck, but I think with this Neptune it is more of a huge marketing decision then anything right now. Hey, maybe in 4 months you'll get some photoshop images of what it could possibly look like, unless they are sticking with that plain aluminum box, which is the worst thing in the world for air flow. Hasn't anyone figured out that a miner doesn't have to be square!!!??? Worst for internal cooling.

You guys are a dime a dozen. How many of there were you when they said "You just dropped $7K on a miner that will never show up? They haven't even designed the Jupiter.." etc etc. Move along dude.

+1 they will be shipping or very close to shipping in 4 months... HashFail on the other hand will probably still be stringing you guys along.
209  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: KNC Neptune ROI predition thread on: November 27, 2013, 07:57:01 PM
The slightly inflated cost for Neptune took a biiig chunk out of the earnings from my early Jupiter.  Here's hoping KnC delivers again and we make money.
210  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast announces specs for new ASIC: 400GH/s on: November 27, 2013, 03:12:26 PM
My condolences to those of you who spent BTC with these shitbag crooks.
211  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: November 26, 2013, 07:28:28 PM
I may have an early pre-order to sell. This all depends on whether KNC will release info or specs about power consumption or whether hosting will be made available.

At this time 30% less per GH/s from the old system 550Gh/s at 650Watts would make the 3TH unit close to 2500watts

Real engineers work with figures they know are applicable and will not promise anything unless they have a statistically significant reason to state otherwise.

Will they require a 20amp or more 220v connection, or? Any details you can pull from the KNC engineers would be helpful.

Yes would like to know this!
212  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: November 26, 2013, 04:03:53 PM
Ordered 2 Neptunes but not sure this is gonna go as well as the batch 1 Jupiters.  They better not screw this up.
213  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Increase of Asics on Ebay on: November 22, 2013, 05:46:39 PM
I'm not sure that would work. I sold a miner on ebay 1 months ago, the buyer paid with paypal and  the money was in my bank account 2 days later. Now there is no way for paypal to get the money back, at worst they close your account but who cares?

There is, they will pull it back from your bank, use your other funding sources on the account (CC, etc. if you have them attached), and if they can't get it from any of those it'll get sent to collections.  PayPal f'n sucks.
214  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Cointerra or Investment? on: November 21, 2013, 03:14:06 PM
AFAIK they will be going back into heavy R&D after they ship all their outstanding orders.  Gen 2 is expected March/April next year.  Specs should be at least 5TH/s if they want to stay competitive.
215  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: November 20, 2013, 07:50:28 PM
Is it public data how many Jupiters will be shipped in KnC November batch?

Bitcoinrama, do you know that?

I think the technical term is "lots and lots".

Most likely the final K.O. punch toward the other companies that are delayed.

I hope so.  HashFail and FailTerra can get bent.
216  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Cointerra or Investment? on: November 20, 2013, 05:30:45 PM
Buy + hold or KnC Gen 2.  Cointerra and HashFast are vaporware.
217  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Hashfast on: November 20, 2013, 04:46:21 PM
Unfortunately I think you guys that ordered from HashFail are screwed.  By the time they ship the difficulty will be way higher than it is today, and KnC will have announced their 2nd gen machines.  The writing was on the wall with these pricks when they only accepted btc and wire transfers on their order page.  Unless the exchange rate explodes again and stays high which is unlikely short term, nobody is going to make a dime off HashFail units.
218  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: List of upcoming 28nm ASICs and estimated shipping date on: November 17, 2013, 05:10:04 AM
KnC gen 2 is going to smoke.

220  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: PSA: Official Avalon Response About Chip Compensation -- "We will not..." on: November 07, 2013, 04:06:33 PM
Also there will be some compensation for trade-in and chip order customers.

After contacting Yifu directly through many different routes regarding his promises to compensate chip purchasers I finally received a direct response stating:

"We will not be issuing any partial refunds."

Do not buy from these guys until they make it right for all their past customers.

They won't.  Boycott all of their future products and force them out.
