201  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: MSI X570-A Pro motherboard, problems getting +2 gpu for mining on: October 21, 2020, 01:27:54 PM
In 2017 I bought MSI Mortar Arctic B350, with 4 PCI-E, but I never managed to mine with 4 cards, only 3 and with some problems, tried everything like you said, update bios, change bios config, update windows, change risers, change cards etc, one day I was so tired that I sold this motherboard and bought Asus B350F Strix, and I put 6 cards running without any problem, simple and easy
After that I bought 2 more motherboards from Asus, the same model, and all worked great

Maybe the problem is the motherboard, and it's doesn't worth to spend a lot of time trying to fix this
I suspect there's something related to PCI lanes, but it's just a guess, the motherboard can't handle with more cards

The best thing to do is research before buy any motherboard, to see if the mobo is good to mine

I have many ASUS M5-A97 mining flawless since 2015. ASUS seems a great mobo maker, indeed.

Sadly, at the moment of building this rig, MSI was my only option available here.

Thanks for your tip.
202  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / MSI X570-A Pro motherboard, problems getting +2 gpu for mining on: October 21, 2020, 11:41:25 AM
I cant get this MSI x570-A PRO to mine stable with more than 2 gpus. (5700XT undervolted Asrock Taichis, Ryzen9, 32Gb, Win10, updated mb bios, 850w corsair platinum PSU, many Adrenalin versions tried).

If i manage to get 3 cards recognized (all i have for this setup), both Claymore and Phoenix crash in a few minutes.

With 2 cards, regardless of pcie slot used or type of risers, it works perfect.

MB BIOS settings are the ones recomended for mining (above 4g blah blah, Gen1.. )

I'll try HiveOS next, but should i get another mobo?

I know this x570 A-Pro is not the best in VRM cooling, but i dont plan to OC the CPU.. its only for casual gaming and mainly to mine with these 3 gpus.

Thanks for your answers!

it hard to find a gigabyte rx 5700 that did do less than 140w from the wall. if you want rx 5700 xt with good power consumption get a Sapphire  nitro+ or a pulse.

i have a nitro +SE that is doing 58.3mh with 100w from the wall(74w In software)

How did you unlock the memory voltage?

Same question here.. how do you set mvddc to 775 ??

[...]how do you set lower than 1750 for mem freq?? This Asrock 5700XT Taichi wont go lower than that, and fails with that error even at stock memory frequency.

For mem speed lower than 1750 you'll have to mod your bios.

Google brings up a lot of interesting reading stuff: https://www.google.com/search?q=rx+5700+bios+mod+mining&oq=rx+5700+bios+mod

Thanks for the Google link. None of those results talk about memory underclocking

I've already modded bios with RBE and MPT. But i have no info on tunning the MPT frequency tab (Memory DPMs)

Could be a riser problem ?

I was receiving the same error when I had my RX 5700 XT GAMING OC on a test bench plugged directly into the MOBO, so I don't think it is a riser issue.  I can't confirm it, but it *seemed* to occur whenever GPU Memory Junction Temperature hit 110 degrees (add -hstats 2 to your bat file to display Tmem temp). I think 110 is when the card starts to throttle and that throws this error for whatever reason in PhoenixMiner.  I bumped my -fanmin up to 40 and now my tmem is running at a "cool" 102 degrees. Haven't had the aclwritetomem issue since.

I have this same issue with my RX 5700 XT gigabyte gaming oc (with igors lab mod, no mpt file loaded), I already increased my fan speed to 80% to see much lower memory junction temperature (after 80% fan speed, 80-85C). I'm still getting this errors and sometimes freezes my system. I don't think this is a riser problem. I need some help.

(For the record: The card worked fine for one month before this error. Normal temps, less than 110w power usage)

I have the same problem with only one card (Asrock 5700XT Taichi). It's a hardware (GPU) issue, as i swapped that card for another working one and the problem dissapeared, (and of course it started failing in the new rig that was working fine before).

It's not about the risers, drivers, temperatures, or mobo/OS settings. RMA that card.

I pray the Lord they have strong hands. They were naysayers years ago.. what if they change their mind again?

there is nothing to fix, since this is not a breakdown, but you need to insert a monitor emulator as always, it's time to know this since you have been since 2014

From 2014 to 2016 i had a Sapp 7950/280x farm..
2016 to present Aorus 1070's .. No need for vga plugs, no unstable drivers.. and profitable mining until today (eth 30mhs/125w). Not a single regret being on the green side.

But 5700xt's are worth a try and i got a nice deal on Asrock Taichis.

back to the subject..
I used a VGA/DVI adapter with some resistors back then, whats used nowadays in the digital connectors for monitor emulator??

thanks for your answer!

edit: answering myself:

Is Windows 10 detecting monitor presence??

If i run the rig (3x 5700xt) with no monitor cable attached, that card doesnt hash as fast as the others...

Phoenix miner set mem and core freq/volt ok for mining activity...but 2 cards hash ok (listed as "discrete" in Wattman, and 1 goes half speed ("primary/discrete")

( I used to need a VGA plug in 2014 for the HD7950... dont tell me thats not fixed in AMD drivers yet..)

They said round numbers were hard to break (10k...psychological resistance).. but it seems they are like butter to the downside..

Go BTC... go up!!

I have created also google spreadsheet to compare few of the cards efficiency . - https://bit.ly/3jLAzjK

You have some strange values for the Nvidia Geforce 1070 on KAWPOW algo.. I get 15mh/s @140w, far better than what you have in there.

I'm concerned about the large walls of text from "exit-planners" (thanks 600watts for that term).

A 1000-2000usd rise and we talk about selling?? is that enough??

I agree on some carpe-diem stuff or taking some profits (as we are not in this world forever), but i expected better from you, my fellow HODLers.

No exit plan, lets run naked into the fire.. Honey Badger's style.

I've just bought a new monitor at Newegg.com, and paid with Bitcoin.  Wink

Payment went thru smooth and fast. Much better than using my local (Argentine) credit card, asking for authorization for a payment abroad, and informing my unfriendly gov about any usd movements.

The only drawback is that i spent my precious hodled satoshis. Now a frenetic bullrun will surely begin.. This is going to be the more expensive monitor ever (0.07 BTC for the records).

The monitor (bought with btc @9300) got delivered yesterday. From Newegg to Argentina in 5 days, even with covid. I cant be happier with this gadget.

Meanwhile the honey badger did its thing... I told you so.
