My point is just that if we want to improve and add REAL value to Swing in whatever manner we think is appropriate, we need to do it realistically. Outline what we want and figure out how to get it as a community. If we can do that and keep doing that Swing will grow very strong. Operating in this manner adds value not because the dev made a promise, but because the community/coin is capable of evolving and improving over time with or without the dev.. and what will it do next??

This is what I'm talking about. Thanks for addressing my concerns!
I hope there is enough force within the community to make things happen.

I'm glad you didn't take it as a dev-based issue, because it's not. It's obvious that investors want the best for Swing, but they need to put something more than their btc in it if we want to go forward.

Let's create a community and figure out where to go next.

Thanks murderouskirk

Sure, and thanks for your honest constructive input! Smiley

It may take a little while for us to get there, but I think starting with the basics listed above is a great way to make progress.

The one that sticks out to me is the BE/Rich list. I think a higher quality one would be great too. I've always been a fan of Chainz.

So here's what we need to figure out. Which BE do we want to get listed on and how much will it cost?

Alright, so so far what I'm seeing we want to approach is:

Marketing
Block Explorer / Rich list
New Website
Wheel and Dice (Yobit already has dice im pretty sure)

Also I do agree with you Shapetwist.

My only concern/point is that I've seen alts die by the fistfull because they got their entire value from promises of new development. Not the actual development mind you, the promise of new developments coming. That's what I want to avoid because I think it will kill Swing and create an angry mob. Anon transactions.. encrypted messaging.. masternodes.. decentralized this and that.. etc.. etc.. we see it over and over. They promise the development and make a roadmap, price goes up.. probably get pumped, and when it does/doesn't release or is late because the lead dev was busy or hit walls the price tanks and everyone gets pissed off and it's game over. In the end nobody cared at all about the developments because they never actually added much value.. they just created an excuse for a temporary price increase and that's what people were buying / exiting on.

Swing is still holding pretty strong, stable, and honestly I think it's still gaining more traction even though we aren't seeing big price waves right now. Let's nurture it and we will grow into something awesome. Smiley

What exactly are we talking about donating for?

Interesting - I was having the discussion with a friend recently.
I think everyone wants marketing (new users to raise price),
quality block explorer/richlist (i.e. presstab or many other quality ones),
website, wheel and dice (so they can gamble their coins) and more development.

They just expect the developer to foot the cost of everything - forever.
I think a small TX for development and extras would not be missed by
anyone but could provide an increase in price. Only question is what is
a reasonalble Tx.

Edit: I think all coins should consider this from the start. Recently DennisLevy,
Crestington and me donated to continue presstab explorer for Con.

Keep in mind a transaction tax just goes to miners / stakers when they break a new block. Unless you make some considerable changes you can't have the tx fee go to a dev fund.

Those are some good suggestions for moving Swing forward though! All of those things could help Swing get more attention.
204  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ♘♕♔SWING♚ ♛♞ ▬▬▬▬●Programmatically Fluctuating Miners Cost!●▬▬▬▬ Now On Bittrex! on: September 26, 2015, 11:54:49 PM
I've tried to reach a few times, as a community member, to no avail.

I've answered that before i believe but I agree that now is a good time to talk about it again, so let's discuss in more detail.

What is the purpose of a market listing other than create speculation on further development?

First of all this is exactly what we are trying to avoid here. In my honest opinion speculation on further development is dumb, stale, and deceptive.

I understand wanting more market movement, but if you want that movement from drama centered around my work ethic I can't say I agree even slightly that that's a good idea. It will only lead to drama, fud, bad pumpers, and the death of swing. Instead, why don't we try to add value to Swing rather than temporarily inflating the price through development promises (..then getting angry when the price inevitably returns to where it started)?

*Edit: This is open source, don't forget that. Some time, we'll get somebody forking this and adding other features on top of it. So I really think something should be done to protect the holders of Greed, GE and Swing, before new based-like projects come along.

I have some ideas for it, maybe we can all discuss something.

Yup, Swing IS open source.

People can fork it and add features and try to sell you whatever they call their Swing fork sure.. And you can dump your Swing and buy up the clone with all it's fancy sparkling promises over and over..

or.. OR..

We could use the same open source environment to improve Swing as a collective.. like strong alt-coins do.

Here's an example. Lately I've been looking into charting API's in order to see if I can make a more informative website that helps track Swing across multiple exchanges. I'm not going to make any promises on this, but I am seeing if I can accomplish something that adds value to the coin and if I can I'll release it. I'm not making promises to inflate the price, I'm just seeing if I can add value on my own time. If I can i'll pitch it to the community, if I can't but I think it could happen with help, I'll reach out and see what the community think of my ideas!

So here's where I stand on this and what I've been thinking here.

I've been planning on making a call for Swing holders & developers & other interested parties to come together for Swing community update #1.

Swing is doing awesome in my eyes so far. The market movement may be a little slow, but it's pretty damn stable and picking up more and more interest. The community is growing and with that more activity will follow down the road to trade on.

There is plenty of room for improvement though. I'm sure all of you could think of ways to add value to Swing, and these are things that should be discussed. Ideas should be pitched, the validity and impact of them should be considered, and if they are good ideas the course of action needed to make it should be discussed. We need to nurture an environment where this can happen to survive. Where improvements and adding value isn't dependent on the original developer. Otherwise everyone is just waiting around hoping for/expecting me to make the usual promises that temporarily inflate price for a quick buck. And when that inevitably fails or misteps I get crucified  Undecided.

So.. Swing community update #1

Here's my thinking for this.

There are some minor core improvements I can make and have considered making. However, since they are minor and not really causing any problems the negative impact of having to push an update outweighs the improvements that would come from it.

So.. I've decided it's best to pull together an agreed upon community created update with all the upgrades we can settle on before pushing out a chain upgrade. Ideally this first update would be focused on core integrity. With altcoins these days being built upon eachother over and over things inevitably fall behind. What BIPS can we add/fix/improve? Should we adjust any settings? Introduce a tax? Change the block size? Security improvements? Can we get the code for these updates together and review/improve it further it as a community? Once we pull together a large enough update that the community thinks it's worth pushing out, we make the updates go live and continue from there. If we really want Swing to grow strong and thrive and get that activity we want to trade on, this is where we need to focus. Improving swing as a collective, not betting on the rise and fall of yet another lead dev.

It would probably help us proceed with the update if I start a side thread or a subreddit or something, but I'll let some responses and discussion happen first.

wow , today I got reward from stake 10.22 SWING, how it's possible?

it shouldnt be possible, as its the last 3 digits of the block so, 22646 should give you a 6.46 PoS reward
I know, but
Facts show other Grin

You should be able to see in the transaction details what block generated it.
of course Grin
Status: 733 confirmations
Date: 2015.09.23 23:27
Source: Generated
Credit: 10.22 SWING
Net amount: +10.22 SWING
Transaction ID: 16ff8bfbef211237796785c21fbbd8cc49378457778c490d0ec044e61e9b68b0

Generated coins must mature 110 blocks before they can be spent. When you generated this block, it was broadcast to the network to be added to the block chain. If it fails to get into the chain, its state will change to "not accepted" and it won't be spendable. This may occasionally happen if another node generates a block within a few seconds of yours.

Nice.  Grin

Block 21973 http://cryptobe.com/b/12Nv2VeX69

That happened to me once and I shat a brick thinking something was wrong. As it turns out, like when I got over 10:

Generation: 9.72

You generated the proper amount, someone must have included an optional transaction fee and you're the lucky dog who broke that block. When it happened to me I landed the 9.99 and got about .25 extra from transaction fees.  Smiley

Well it's really nice to see that this coin got listed on Bittrex Smiley That's always a good thing Wink Now the one question I do have is the POW phase ongoing forever this way? Or does it eventually switch to straight POS with the swinging rewards?

Looks like it's indefinitely.

LAST_POW_BLOCK = 1000000000
MAX_MONEY = 40000000 * COIN; //Max Supply 40 Mil

So pretty much indefinite but not exactly.

Heya

Just FYI that we're mining SWING on our multipool: www.xpool.ca and sha256 miners have the option to keep their SWING just by entering their SWING address in their user settings. It is a minable coin only and not a converted payout coin.

Cheers!

Thanks!

I've added xpool, bittrex, and additional bittrex chart to the thread.  Smiley

and how many years till the end block ?

Well, it's been 24 days (we launched on the 30th) and we are on block 22081.

So that means the chain runs a little faster than programmed in at about 920.041666667 blocks per day (probably due to hash rates coming on/offline at peak hours).

So it would take us 1086907.29586 days to hit the end of POW

Which is 2975.853553109197 years

So.. POW will not end in our lifetime unless something unexpected changes or we upgrade that setting.

It will probably take ~25 years to hit max supply of 40 mil coins.

There are currently 245197.79598966 coins and of that 160k was pre-generated for seed coins so..

85,197.7959897 new coins have been generated in ~24 days.

You guys can do the math on that and get better estimates if you want.

Wow, big action this morning!!

The whole book got purchased eh? I guess we can officially say Swing joined the $1+ club.. even just for a moment there haha. New ATH is .005.  Grin

What we really need though is a custom chart. One that overlays price and expected rewards. Ideally with miners cost (even estimated) though that's more challenging to get. I'm looking into getting a tradingview chart made that way we have extended history and TA tools. Ideally with expected reward and some other info on it. I don't know if tradingview charts allow more than one line though. Unfortunately the developer that I was going to have make that for me is hit or miss if he's online so.. If anyone thinks they can make something like this let me know and you might get a bounty coming your way.

If all else fails I might be able to at least make the basic tradingview chart myself so we have something a little cleaner to look at. No promises though I've never done trading charts but this is what I've been looking into lately.

If people can see the impact of price vs reward easily it will likely help. Till then we're all estimating mental gaps that can be tricky and easy to not think about.

I'm not sure I fully understand the extent of this, but I'll gladly help with all I can.

It brings a few questions. Do you want to train everybody in order for them to become proficient in getting the most rewards regarding mining and market selling? Not sure that is the best way. Once every miner figures it out we'll see a pretty consistent wave which will not help trading imo.

I think we should encourage some thought into swing and let people figure it out, giving enough information of course.

But publishing a guide/chart that will - eventually - only explain how to profit, is a no go in my opinion.

There are many other ways in which we can spark interest. The nature of the coin will be figured out and dealt with properly once we reach the right people. And then all will happen naturally.

At this point, I'd be more concerned into finding good metaphors as explaining terms, instead of providing charts. Because, to be honest, a buy side has to be built, and that's only gonna happen if the money out there understands this whole swing thing. I'd focus on that.

All I'm looking for is a better chart that shows both price and expected block rewards in real time. This just helps people keep track of where we are at.  Smiley
214  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ♘♕♔SWING♚ ♛♞ ▬▬▬▬▬●Programmatically Fluctuating Miners Cost!●▬▬▬▬ on: September 18, 2015, 01:46:16 AM
So if I'm to understand the OP correctly this coin has variable POS and POW depending on what block number it is when the reward is received? If that is truly the case that's kind of a pretty neat concept for this coin for sure Cheesy I'm liking it so far Wink

So here we are, with a good coin that has zero market interest.

Why a good coin? Swinging rewards have never been done before. Why is that good? I believe it's a good way to reinstate fairness into the game. Yet, miners are greedy or unaware of cost vs market profit, and stakers will keep staking because the rewards are way too good.

Keep in mind that mining costs will always vary over time. This is some serious shit.

It will bring miners into swing mode, if they want their mining to pay off. They will have to adapt to the inherited swinging nature of block rewards, which is a step up in the game. They will have to be smart over their selling, and pick it up again at the smartest time.

This is why there is no market at the moment. This is new. They don't know how to handle it. They haven't yet figured out the waves. And the lurkers haven't realized the potential in this.

Time will come, either naturally, or we might need to put up some explanations/guides.

I think SWING is growing slowly, but steadily.  Thanks for dropping a comment shapetwist.  Grin

yeah.  Mining about 10 to 14 hrs daily, I think I am getting about 40-50.  I usually have the top hash at suchpool, so I am getting most of the rewards from blocks found.  I hope that answers your question.  Grin
that almost equals 1th/s /24h
if currently rate 50 swing cost 0.00225btc(if to sell instant), cheapest rig to rent ~ 0.01btc Price/TH/Day almost 5 time pricey!!! You probably believe very future of this coin Smiley of course my calculations approximate (sell ask price twice higher)

I own my rigs, 2 Bitmain S5's, so it is a little easier for me to a chance on this.

Thanks for this info. I've been getting curious where the miners cost is at.

Thanks for the initiative WigitGetIt!

Believe it or not I've been slowly strategically approaching Bittrex.

Here's some things to consider.

A community outpouring and seeing the name of the coin repeatedly can make a big difference in weather or not they decide to check out the coin, or give it additional looks. However, that alone is not enough to get us listed there.

When it boils down to it they are really looking at one or two things.

A: Can they profit from the volume?
Bittrex delists coins that average trade volumes of less than 0.2 BTC daily over the course of a week. If we want to get listed We will have to consistently beat this mark. Getting more traders into the coin is a good way for this to happen naturally. Bittrex wants to see lots of activity and they know how to pick out blatantly fake volume. I think if the swinging price pattern holds relatively consistent with the swinging supply for a few cycles (at least), we will likely see a large increase in people taking up an interest in Swing (and therefore increased volume).

B: Is the coin legit, or is it just a joke or a scam?
This is pretty much the entire reason I decided to move away from the "Greed" names and use my actual trading handle. They weren't so fond of the Greed brand. So hopefully we've got this covered.

When you really look at it Swing is just getting started guys. All we can do from here is grow bigger!

Slow and steady growth is key!
