201  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 2 same 5970 card, 20degree difference, what the? on: June 26, 2011, 06:01:35 AM
How are the GPU numbers correlated to the dual GPU on the cards? Is GPU 1 and GPU 2 on the same card?
202  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: How much hardware have you lost due to mining? on: June 26, 2011, 05:47:46 AM
If your PSU gave out, then it probably wasn't the right wattage. I've had my 550W PSU for over 3 years, running nearly 24/7, and for the past few months at 100% 24/7, and he hasn't given in yet.

But to answer your question, none yet. My desktop (which I've have had the parts for many years) is still running strong, with no signs of problems. My dedicated miner with 2x5830's is running just fine, with no signs of problems either (except for when the power went out, damn you lightning storms).

Luckily I am a firm follower of the FSM, who lets me delay my noodle appendage touching for later hours if something comes up.

What's the GPU activity looking like for card #1? 61C is very very low for a 100% load GPU. Or it's possible the temp sensor is malfunctioning.

Maybe the opposite, have a non-shown smite system. When someone gets enough smites for troll/spam posts, they can only make 1 or so posts a day. It'd be nice to have less of a barrier to entry since some people have constructive things to say.

It's pretty much dick measuring: It doesn't matter at all and no one should care.

Valve = greatest company on earth.
208  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: deepbit taking over? is there any effort to keep track of invalidated blocks? on: June 25, 2011, 11:36:13 PM
I'll bite. This is just too funny. And the fact that someone replied to it is hilarious.

Someone please tell me what school taught you that 3GH/9.5GH = 51%.

I really want to report them to the Department of Education of equivalent.

I think his forum sig makes it even more funny. I better switch to solo mining so there's gonna be 4 peers now.
209  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: air flow diagram for Radeon GPU? on: June 25, 2011, 04:48:48 PM
That's my whole question.  Is the card drawing air from the fan (like - from the hole that the fan sits in?), or is it drawing it from the vents in the plastic shroud?  Surely someone here knows the answer to this...

The fan of the cards are intake fans, drawing the air in the plastic cover and out the back where the DVI plugs are.

For your blower idea, you might want to include the cases' rear exhaust fan located above the PCI slots, since that will cause a lot of air suction through the case, pulling heat off the top of the cards and reducing the heat of the air the card's intake fans will suck in.
210  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Don't leave YouTube open on your miner ... on: June 25, 2011, 02:07:19 AM
mining is using about 97% of your gpu, video's require x%(definitely greater than 3%). If it doesn't freeze your computer first, then yes, you will notice a drop in hashes per second.

That's only hardware accelerated applications, like Flash. I running MPC on my main computer with a 5850, and Mh/s only drop by 2 or 3.

Ok,

I just purchased a Radeon HD 6750 but the problem is that I have a 400W power supply, and the card recommends a 450.  Can I use 400W without any problems?  I don't want destroy my hardware but I'd rather not buy an additional piece of hardware if this can work for a while.

I hate to be so cheap but I'd really like to avoid spending another $90 this month if I can get away with it.  Otherwise, I'll keep on waiting...

Thanks guys!

It'd probably burn out soonish if you're running the card at 100% 24/7.

I like how many these posts are just flaming the guy who started the thread. Great community!

Sounds like someone else really wants to get fired for using their work's equipment for bitcoin mining.

I made the following comic just for this thread. I think it sums ups what all the rational people are thinking about the whole Mtgox situation:

I just looked at the motherboard on Newegg for reviews and saw that it is one crappy motherboard (31% 1/5 reviews, that's pretty bad). From what I read there, I doubt it's the graphics card causing the problems. I doubt it's even heat issues, rather an unstable motherboard.

Does this sound like your situation?:

...Second: Once I finally get the computer on and working properly, it randomly crashes. The display freezes or goes black, and I have to restart the computer (running into the reboot loop while i do).
Third: After going to sleep mode, several issues arise, from either the keyboard not working to the display not working...

Might want to post this on the mining sub-forum, will probably have the better target audience there.

GPU is really the only thing that effects Mh/s, just go off that chart. Also take note that many values are from overclocking (clock speeds are shown on the chart).
218  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Anyone had a fire !?!? on: June 23, 2011, 06:47:31 PM
Most CPU and GPU have failsafes that shut them off at a cretin temperature. Maybe a really really cheap PSU ran at 500% load since the eighties would cause a fire, but I doubt anything would if hardware is installed properly.

If you're the person waiting until the very last second to bit, then you might come out ahead. I can't imagine why the price would even go up until that point, except for the "stupid" users of the site.

It's a brilliant business scam really. The people actually buying the stuff can't complain because if played right, they'd pay X + $1, where X = ending action price. The site makes a shit ton of money off the bids, and the people who are losing the scam are the ones trying to bid early. I can't see any reason why anyone with any sense would bit until that last second, though.
