201  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ★★ DigiByte ★★ [DGB] - A Professional Cryptocurrency ✈ On Coin Market ✔ on: January 22, 2014, 10:02:39 AM
Oh, so it IS an official lottery of DGB Devs and your not making any profit at all on the lottery?

Lol, I never claimed I did this for free. People should get something for putting in a lot of time and effort - do you work for free?? Even the guy who did the German "translation" on Google translate got paid 250,000 DGB for his 5 min. of "work".

The dicegames and bet races are complete ripoffs though. In comparison I believe the lottery is fair as it now stands considering risk/reward

That is all good and fine, but you are making 20% profit if my math serves me.  Welcome to capitalism, that is not my primary concern.

My primary concern is that this is NOT an OFFICIAL DigiByte Lottery and you are MISLEADING in your title of the lottery as THE DigiByte Lottery.

Please correct any misleading statements about Dev support, involvement, or the OFFICIAL status of this lottery.  The Devs accepting an offer to roll a random number for the draw does NOT = official or support.

And that includes in your OP post @ topic: 423204.

What would you call it then, I don't really see the problem. The dev team haven't complained. It's THE lottery on the DigiByte thread. This isn't North Korea you know, where the leaders do and decide EVERYTHING.

The first 21 characters of the thread title are IDENTICAL to the OP launch post for this coin.  That is misleading at best, fraudulent at worst.  There needs to be a large unmistakable statement at the top of your thread and posts declaring that the lottery is NOT official.

The Devs are currently busy working on, wait for it......... Developing.  I am certain you will see a comment in the near future asking similar changes for them.  In the meantime, if it doesn't change in the next ten minutes I am reporting it to the moderators of this sub-forum.

It isn't personal, look at my other posts.  I tend to be a positive person.  There is just too much potential for abuse in this situation.

If anyone has a great idea on to what the best way to do the lottery is please let us know. We ourselves were thinking of a fair & transparent way to do this.

1. Payout at least 95%
2. Only accept tickets from users here in the board that created an account more than 2 weeks ago (otherwise the creator of the lottery could easily set up a new account himself that wins)
3. Let digibyte announce the winner
4. Reveal how the draw will be done to prove randomness

1. Why not make it 101% payout  Smiley
2. Great - so about 3 people will buy tickets??
3. He is now.
4. Yeah, put it on CNN

 Grin

Any of those dice games or bet races give me a higher chance to win, so no reason for me and many others to participate. The USDE lottery even paid out more than that.Wink

And I believe that all of my 4 points are valid points, but your replies have shown that you do not want to take them serious and even made fun about it, so my little trust in this is now completely gone. Smiley

Maybe, I will start my own lottery where all those 4 points will apply.

I can't see that you even have a single valid point, all I see is that you would like to steal my idea. Please stop trolling, your close to being a Gingermod2.

Those dice games are set up for ALL of you to lose against the "house". They are meant to be played again and again and again in a short period of time and you lose a little almost all the time. If you play that boring dicegame for an hour you will probably have lost 95% of your funds - giving a payout in real termes of 5%. Play the dicegame with 50,000 DGB for an hour and your left with 2,500 DGB, making a loss of 47,500. Any of those dicegames or bet races will make you broke.

Play the DigiByte Lottery on the other hand and you may win up to 300,000 DGB.

Its all he knows lol.

Might be important to point out, in case anyone here is actually new to this forum, that some members here like to create brand new accounts for reasons of personal gain.
They then proceed to devote the entire time logged into that account for a pre-determined purpose -> such as bashing a certain coin/thread they have a motive to see fail.

I would point anyone interested to the account history of GingerMod: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=219339;sa=showPosts;start=0

1. Created around the launch of DigiByte
2. Couple posts in newbie thread (required by forum, as you probably already know).
3. 1 Post in a different altcoin thread
4. EVERY SINGLE OTHER POST HAS BEEN BASHING DIGIBYTE

So!  Why don't you just come clean GingerMod?
Why not just expose your real forum account and let everyone see the motives behind all these kind and thoughtful posts you keep making? Smiley

I think your points ARE valid points.
If I am not mistaken, wouldn't be the first time I was, the above is a private lottery which is not sponsored by the devs, or coin.
I think the only connection with the devs is that they agreed to do the draw to help prevent fraud (which is always an issue in a psuedo-anonymous forum).

So, I wouldn't call this THE DGB lottery.
206  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ★★ DigiByte ★★ [DGB] - A Professional Cryptocurrency ✈ Android Wallet ✔ on: January 22, 2014, 06:16:37 AM
so im wondering what the future holds in store for digi. imo you guys (the digi team) are off to a very good start, you guys seem to have your shit together which is nice to see. personally I think digi has a good future, but im worried about the amount of coins total. 21 billion is an awful lot, and id like to see them at over $1 or $10, but I dont know how realistic that would be. I would consider $.10 a success, but what do you guys think?
if you look at all the other alts with tons of coins, their volume makes them worth less, whereas there are far fewer bitcoins and I think thats an important part of why theyre worth so much.
thoughts?
Bitcoin went from a $200 million market cap at the beginning of 2013 to over $12 billion by the end of 2013. That's a 60 fold increase in less than 1 year. All signs point to Bitcoin & cryptos making another 10-20 fold increase in 2014 (wall street dumping in billions, large companies like overstock starting to accept crypto currency & cryptos going main stream.)
That puts the crypto market cap at $100- $200 billion by the end of 2014, beginning of 2015. This is still tiny compared to the 60 Trillion in currency traded around the world.
By the end of the first year there will only be 4 billion DigiBytes in circulation. So if cryptos are at a $200 billion market cap don't you think it is very easy for DigiByte to capture 5-10 billion of that as more merchants begin to accept it?
It will take 4 years for about 12 billion DGB to be created (half of all DGB). Then it will take another 20+ years for the rest to be created.
Back in the fall of 12' and Jan of 13' no one believed us when we said Bitcoin would be where it is now. All you have to do is look at the math behind it and do some calculations.
I (BitcoinTate) remember making this post and people said I was crazy back in April: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=167611.0
Read this article as well: http://falkvinge.net/2013/03/06/the-target-value-for-bitcoin-is-not-some-50-or-100-it-is-100000-to-1000000/
21 Billion is the perfect number of coins.
The tell-tale sign of any failing business is when the justification for your actions is
"Well this is a multi-billion dollar market, even if I capture a tiny fraction of it, I'll be a millionaire!"
You won't

pickaxe pool was awesome one...
Sad  Sorry to hear you aren't a Get-By fan anymore ;(

Why? I am fan! But large ping there for me.

Have you actually pinged the stratum server?  Don't rely on the graphical ping of the web server!

The problem is, that i've got 45k DGB in 48 hours @ miningpool.co, and that i've got 41k DGB in not even 15 hours @ smalltimeminer.com already, so it's almost 3x more, and difficulty is almost same (started yesterday at 19:15pm, it's 10:50am now and i've got http://scr.hu/0fc4/mi9ed

We are up and mining @ dgb.get-by.com and happy to have the hash.

That said, are you sure it wasn't just a really bad patch of luck for the pool?
If the total pool hash power is low, that could be the case.
Remember smalltimeminer has way too much hash power right now, thus less variability.

For all those affected:

dgb.Get-By.com is up and running again.

Please accept my deepest apologies for the down-time.  This was the first time that the stratum server has been down since the DigiByte launch, and it is extremely embarrassing.

On a positive note, I decided that during the downtime there was no better time than to do the migration to a better more scalable server.

Again, please accept my apologies for any hash you might have wasted,

Get-By.com Administration.

That darn dice game re-posting is getting quite annoying, none of my coins will be going there.

In other news, I think today was a damn good first day for exchange entrance.
Pretty good volume, reasonably steady price/value.
No epic dump as many anticipated, though we will still see some more dumping in the future likely.

Steady wins the race - and I think DGB is off to a great start in that respect.

So it's ok for you to have 50k, but noone else?

I'll give you 0.025BTC now for them now and you don't have to come back in this thread ever again

Your totally missing the point! Its not about whos entitled to the coins. I'm asking WHY the hand outs were so high related to the block reward. Why were only a few hundred people 'entitled' to these coins instead of the potentially thousands?
Ive already stated im going to sell my coins when/if they hit an exchange.

Early adopters become brand ambassadors.
Even if the coin went to exchange and became worthless tomorrow (which I don't believe will happen), it has succeeded in getting many people new to the crypto-community excited about crypto.  That ALONE is a success. A net positive for the community.

Could have been handled better - true.

This coin launched with over a half dozen pools, and was available to those who don't speak English, in multiple languages, early in the first day: because of the giveaways.

Those pathetic bashers are just jealous because they dont have enough hashpower to effectively mine DGB, also they bash competing coins trying to make their own go-nowhere-shitcoins look better.

Stupid idiots LOL. The harder these clowns try to bash DGB - the more they fear DIGI's bright future killing off their other shitcoins.

Enough name-calling: it isn't necessary or appropriate.

You already dumped it, spreading this shit.

Care to elaborate on your mature argument? Wink Or quote so we know who you are talking to? Listen, I don't want it to be true either, but that does not make it false..
You are a free person, dump if you like.  There will be others dumping as well.

The development team is solid, that alone gives this coin more 'value' than the majority of the other altcoins.
You seem to have convinced yourself that you have a deep understanding of investment and speculation.

Good.  I am investing in Digibyte based on the principles of Value Investing(Buffet).  At the bottom of your dump is where the money is made as price will not accurately reflect value.
