201  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Warren Buffet: Bitcoin is a Very Fascinating Check/Money Order on: March 14, 2014, 07:26:16 PM
Buffet investment mantra is "invest in what you know."  He clearly doesn't understand Bitcoin and hence is staying away.  I think at this stage, Bitcoin isn't for a guy like Buffet, maybe his grandkids.
202  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Nominate USD as the new "drug currency" on: March 14, 2014, 07:24:11 PM
OP,

You can also mention to these people the percentage of dollars that have traces of cocaine on them.  I believe the figure is above 90%.  A quick google would give you the exact percentage.

Yes, slight imperfections are fine.  If he can carve them down to 7 milimeter, I think around 30 beads should be more than enough.  Let me know if you're able to find out what the more expensive wood is and also if it's possible to get a picture of what it looks like.  Thank you.

The 4000-riel beads (4000 riel = $1) are made from Rosewood.  It is more rare and stronger than the 3000-riel variety.  Our man doesn't have any samples at the moment for pictures, but a google search turned up a lot.  Again, since these are hand-carved you can expect the outcome to be not as clean as the google pictures but more in line with the pictures we sent.

The 3000-riel beads (from the picture I sent) are made from what the locals call "Chinese wood," so I can't confirm yet if we are talking about agarwood or not, but I suspect not.

The price stays the same for each no matter what diameter beads you order.  You will need to let me know how you want them strung; ie: in a bracelet, in 2 bracelets, as loose beads, etc.  The stringing is free.

Shipping from Cambodia will be at least $35 and should take less than 2 weeks.  We've shipped light packages for that price to the US (1 week) so I'm estimating a package this weight could cost up to $50.  We will ask around about shipping and send a copy of the receipt with tracking info.

We will make a listing for you on Cryptothrift.com and use their escrow service, unless you have a better idea.  Our fee will be $15 above the estimated total.  We will provide receipts demonstrating the exact amount we paid and any overpayment on your part will be returned.  Since this would be our first sale on the forums I'm more interested in things going smoothly than making money, so I'm hopeful you will decide to move forward.  Let me know your thoughts.

I appreciate you taking time to look for the items.  However, the shipping seems to be very high, it would cost more than the actual beads themselves.  Also, it seems like you can get Rosewood beads rather cheap, around $10 for more than 108 beads as you can see here:

http://www.ebay.com/sch/sis.html?_nkw=ROSEWOOD+MALA+108+BEADS+MEDITATION+5MM

Is there a particular reason why your vendor charges such a higher price?

205  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Good thing for two-factor authentication. Coinbase account definitely hacked. on: March 13, 2014, 07:39:44 PM
Got an authentication text from Coinbase out of the blue and thought it was suspicious so I logged on to my account and had a password reset request from China...

Guess I'm gonna have to move ALL of my coin to paper wallets. Seems like Coinbase is no longer safe even for the tiniest bit of coin I had on there.

*Edit*: This stupid fu*k has now hacked into my email. Anybody else out there with a little hacking no how, feel free to return the favor.

You should have a 2FA option on your email account as well.  If not, find one that offers it.
206  Other / Archival / Re: Buying - Bitcointalk forum - Hero member ID & Pass on: March 13, 2014, 06:30:13 PM
It is suspicious, but KWH is right, the action of buying/selling forum accounts is allowed here.

Btw, you should not trust a person just because he has been active or is a hero member.
The account could have been hacked, or have been sold, or simply the owner have turned to the dark side.

Tradefortress is a VIP (donated 50btc to bitcointalk), and has gone with 4000+ btc.
John K was a mod, and has been MIA for 2 months now.

I didn't realize John K is gone now.  Darn, I was going to use him for escrow.  Is there any other reputable escrow people active?
207  Economy / Goods / Re: We source products from CAMBODIA on: March 13, 2014, 06:26:55 PM
It's easy to do.  The guy in the background of the picture will carve them exactly to your specs.  They are all hand carved so there will be imperfections, which is actually desirable.  We just called them and the quote per beads of that size is the same, 3,000 riel or 75 cents.  He told us the minimum number of beads he will carve is 20, otherwise it is a waste of his time.  He was the cheapest available carver we could find.

There is also a more rare type of wood that he told us about which he sells for 4000 riel per bead ($1).  We are still trying to find a specialist fluent in both languages to translate the names of these woods for us.  I suspect that one of them is Rosewood, and the other is Agarwood, but I cannot say for sure.

Here you go:

http://i.pictr.com/ys8bj4qosl.jpg

We were quoted at 3000 riel per bead, which is about 75 cents each.  The whole necklace was offered at $50.  We are still trying to translate the name of the wood used to create the beads, so I'm unsure if it is "Agarwood."  It is a rare wood and hopefully we can find someone soon who can give us the correct translation.  Let me know if you need more pictures.

The beads look a bit big, I'm looking for something a little smaller, 6MM to 7MM in size.  It will be worn around the wrist so I don't need that many but the color and style is what I am looking for.

Are you able to get any mala beads?

Hi, yes, can you send me a message at bitcambodia @ yandex [dot] com?  Let me know exactly what you are looking for and I'll see what I can do.

Do you escrow?

Looking for agarwood beads, the smaller ones, around 6MM to 7MM in size.

Yes, we can escrow on Cryptothrift or any market of your choice, or perhaps a 3rd party on bitcointalk.

Agarwood...  If you run across any retailers online then we will be happy to translate for you and get it delivered.  In the meantime we'll ask around.  I'm told this is more popular with Chinese monks, but not necessarily Khmer ones.  We'll message you when we locate something.

If you can find Tibetan monk beads of a different wood (but similar size) that would work as well.  Please PM me as I might forget about this thread.  Thanks.

Why don't you send me 0.25BTC and I'll send you back 0.20BTC, lets see how much YOU trust others.

213  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Second and Third Bitcoin gun stores coming soon world wide on: March 10, 2014, 05:54:16 PM
With the advent of 3D-printing it's gonna get very tough to keep guns out of individuals' hands
Up to folks to exercise responsibility

I still don't see the appeal.  Why would someone want to use something made out of plastic or some other similar material that houses an explosive?  Yeah, no thanks.  3D printing is cool but I think there is a better way.  You're better off milling a piece of metal or finishing an 80% lower receiver IMO.
214  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Make a real ATM on: March 10, 2014, 05:51:06 PM
It seems like one of the features of Bitcoin would be to rid yourself of the need for something like an ATM.  I don't know that I can see any benefits of tethering a new technology to one that is more or less archaic.

217  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can someone school me on wallets? on: March 09, 2014, 08:08:32 AM
From my standpoint I find blockchain.info with 2 factor authentication and a second password for sending coins to be very secure and reliable.

This is not the same as other web wallets.

blockchain.info is fine for smaller amounts, a hot wallet used for transactions.  However, for long-term storage you're simply better going with a paper wallet or similar options.

I am not just referring to BTC if you look on the trading sites it seems that all the alt currencies have taken a major dive in the last week.

Bitcoin.  The only place where "dives" and "crashes" are measured in minutes and days.
219  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: When Wall Street will finally jump in? on: March 08, 2014, 06:59:51 PM
It was BofA, I was a little off on the price but $1300 by a bank is still pretty bullish.

How come communist country like China massivelly jumped in on the bitcoin wagon already and modern and democratic country like US is still (mostly) taking their sweet time?
Where is Wall Street, where are the big money? Right now China is driving the price up for second time and we see little to no action from US capitals.
Kinda can't figure it out?

Someone not long ago, I think it was BofA, did a valuation on Bitcoin.  I think they came away at something like $1500-$1600.  I'll try and locate the article.
