201  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / I'm taking Vladimir's advice on: June 10, 2011, 08:59:45 PM
I can't take these price swings any longer so I'm going long on bitcoin and withdrawing all of my coins back to my wallets.  Trading bitcoin is a young man's game.
202  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: This is what happens when someone dumps a lot of BTC quickly on: June 10, 2011, 07:57:27 PM
Perhaps it's time to eliminate the dark pools.
203  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: This is what happens when someone dumps a lot of BTC quickly on: June 10, 2011, 07:53:17 PM
Even the true believers want to get paid.
204  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Jacob Appelbaum: "Bitcoin Prediction: Major bugs in the near future ..." on: June 10, 2011, 07:39:32 PM
Considering what a little "announcement" on mtgox has done to the price today, any actual bug like this would crash the price back to $1.
205  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Federal Gangsters Seek Crackdown on Bitcoin - Good Luck on: June 10, 2011, 07:19:22 PM
Silk Road is being targeted, not Bitcoin. For some reason, all of these articles have titles about the senators attacking Bitcoin when the senators never said anything about that.
There is a video in the notable sources thread that shows Senator Schumer talking about "shadow currency" that enables Silk Road.  I think it's safe to assume that it will be targeted.
206  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin to rally to $50+ on: June 10, 2011, 07:17:01 PM
I believe the drop today can be completely explained by the two exchange sites both experiencing unclear problems with USD transfer out (problems that are now resolved).  I know this was because of API upgrades at Dwolla, but that wasn't explained anywhere on those sites.  All most users saw were two things, 1) Senator Schumer saying he was going to shut down bitcoin, then 2) USD transfers suddenly stop working.  All of this combined with the general background noise on the hate-bitcoin sites saying this is a scam, ponzi, etc, caused a crisis in confidence.  Hopefully it will resolve itself.
207  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who sells Milk on SilkRoad? on: June 10, 2011, 07:06:59 PM
Maybe it is breast milk or something weird like that.
There was a show on NPR where people were eating breast milk cheese.  It made me want to stab myself in the face.
208  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin to rally to $50+ on: June 10, 2011, 07:05:24 PM
I think the people saying silver parity are correct.. $36
209  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How much demand is coming from Silk Road? on: June 09, 2011, 10:34:56 PM
I think very little in reality, but the potential to engage in similar transactions without the government knowing about it is probably a big draw.  If there are 100 Silk Roads next month, people want to be ready.
210  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: US Senate drafting anti Bitcoin law on: June 09, 2011, 09:19:28 PM
No legislation is pending or has been introduced.  None will be for weeks or months.  Nothing to see here.
211  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: TradeHill might become the top site over MTGox because of Referral and Discount on: June 09, 2011, 05:51:34 PM
People keep raving about the UI, but I find it lacking.  It doesn't show you the information you want in the places you want to see it.  You have to switch back and forth between pages to see your active balance, etc.  It's prettier than mtgox, but don't mistake that for more functional.  They have a lot of work to do.  I have high hopes, but let's not king them just yet.
212  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: We're only in it for the money... on: June 09, 2011, 05:27:09 PM
Was this a request for the first bitcoin bailout?
213  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why do people have such a love/hate reaction to Bitcoins when hear about it? on: June 09, 2011, 05:08:42 AM
how come there is no middleground?

Middle ground doesn't exist on the Internet.
214  Other / Meta / Re: Require a registration fee for the Bitcoin Forum? on: June 09, 2011, 05:01:21 AM
Scientician, ocharry, and datguywhowanders have never reported a post. Mintaka has only ever reported one. Don't just complain: report the posts!

I am not opposed to the idea of a paid section, though I wouldn't want most of the forum to be non-free.

I've tried to report many, but several times I got an error that said "Board did not exist."  I imagine other people saw the same thing.
215  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: John Stossel talks about the Bitcoin on: June 09, 2011, 04:29:30 AM
Even a broken clock is right twice a day.
216  Other / Meta / Re: Require a registration fee for the Bitcoin Forum? on: June 09, 2011, 04:09:01 AM
The irony here is that some of the boards that have decided to invade us, Something Awful being the most obvious, are paid boards.  They long ago got rid of their trolls by heavy handed moderation and charging $10 for an account.
217  Other / Meta / Re: Require a registration fee for the Bitcoin Forum? on: June 09, 2011, 02:23:55 AM
No.  Don't moderate.  We can expose the trolls.  We can help the Noobs by holding their hand when they need it most.  Yes we can.  We can mock the Fudders.  We can do this ourselves without assistance from any modulators.

Bring the trolls on.  Prepare for battle.

What part of the internet have you been on that makes you think mocking trolls makes them go away?  I'm talking about a problem of sheer volume.  They will come faster than you can intellectually defeat them, meanwhile, legitimate interested parties will come and see a forum filled with nonsense and it will scare them away.  This forum is starting to look like a place where kids hang out.  It should look like a place where financial professionals and on-line retailers would  feel comfortable.
218  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who said the bubble burst today on: June 09, 2011, 12:33:24 AM
I read something about a crash on buttcoin.com, but now it appears they've been hacked.
219  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: brand new here compeltely lost ?????????????? on: June 08, 2011, 11:41:29 PM
Troll confirmed.
220  Other / Meta / Re: Require a registration fee for the Bitcoin Forum? on: June 08, 2011, 11:37:24 PM
Bad idea. Perhaps a subforum where you had to pay to get access to post, but not read.
Without better oversight and moderation, this forum will be useless in under a week.  If you haven't noticed, we have an influx of trolls from various humor sites.
