5 BTC - Existential Nihilism
202  Economy / Securities / Re: Motion Raised! Starting a new FPGA mining farm/contract! Cognitive on [GLBSE] on: August 30, 2012, 01:21:52 AM
Interesting idea. Deprecate the old hardware from btc to ltc mining, and if that becomes successful you have a way to grow the company without diluting shares further. Makes sense to me now, thanks for clarifying. Sounds good.
203  Economy / Securities / Re: Motion Raised! Starting a new FPGA mining farm/contract! Cognitive on [GLBSE] on: August 28, 2012, 07:02:04 PM
My only thoughts at the moment are:
  • No firm decision can be made, and there may not even be enough information to draw valuable conclusions until we see whether or not BFL delivers. And if they do, delivery time is the next factor.
  • I would enjoy seeing Cognitive grow without my shares diluting every time. I know this is sort of a separate issue and that the 100BTC would be a form of growth without dilution, but what happens after that is spent.

Will GPUs really be profitable after the difficulty hike and reward halving?

That's rad! Thanks for the update.
205  Economy / Marketplace / Re: ["WAIT LIST"] BFL SC Order Dates / Ship Dates on: June 30, 2012, 05:33:44 PM
In a broader sense, a $100 dollar bill today will be worth less in a year.
206  Economy / Marketplace / Re: ["WAIT LIST"] BFL SC Order Dates / Ship Dates on: June 30, 2012, 01:58:41 AM
Why is there so much confidence in BFL, and a willingness to pre-fund and wait months? I've seen more reliable Kickstarter projects make less money, while those projects arose without venture capital and with identifiable figureheads. With all the controversy surrounding the company I'm blow away by the almost viral success of a cheesy press release on a product that doesn't exist (yet). So can anyone convince me why I should drop $170 on a Jalapeno and wait somewhere between four to infinity months, given the time value of money, as opposed to just using that money elsewhere?

tl;dr why should I purchase a jalapeno when I could just use the money on an existing venture or elsewhere and earn value in the meantime

"Experience excellence."

"Let us spin you up."

"A whirlwind of web." (whirlwind of quality/ of service/ of xyz )

"Your web unleashed."

"Wild performance, tame price."

"Spin up your solution."

"Quick, Quirky, Quality"
208  Economy / Invites & Accounts / [WTS] Battle.net Account (WoW,D3,D2) on: June 27, 2012, 06:42:02 PM
Hi there,

I've been thinking about my selling my battle.net account because I don't really play anymore, please let me know if you would be interested.

The account includes World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction, and Diablo 3.

Assets in each game include:
WoW (no game time):
An 85 undead priest in pvp gear
An 81 orc warrior in raid gear in WOTLK raid gear
A 74 undead mage
A 71 tauren druid
A 60 blood elf warlock
A 60 blood elf paladin
A 42 blood elf hunter
A few lower level randoms
All characters are primarily on an east coast server.
The priest happens to be in one of the oldest and frequently number one pve guild on the server if that adds any value.

Diablo 3:
A level capped demon hunter with access to Act 4 inferno

Diablo 2:
Unplayed for quite some time so the characters are probably wiped.

If anyone has more specific questions I'll do my best to answer them. As far as price goes, I'm unsure! I think getting back retail price for the games would be fair but if I were compensated for some of the time investment that would be even better. That puts it around $160 retail or 24.6 btc.

Thanks for the updates.
210  Economy / Securities / Re: Motion Passed! Starting a new FPGA mining farm/contract! Cognitive on [GLBSE] on: May 24, 2012, 05:27:08 AM
Exactly! It's counter-intuitive to invest in another mining operation unless they are doing something vastly different (think what's the differentiation or competitive advantage). You'd be better off investing in the race horse to avoid a conflict of interest. Buying more hardware (or saving for it) or buying back shares might make more sense then. Definitely needs some more discussion.
211  Economy / Securities / Re: Motion Passed! Starting a new FPGA mining farm/contract! Cognitive on [GLBSE] on: May 23, 2012, 07:26:09 PM
I have an issue with this motion if you'll hear me out. I'm ok with expanding to purchase more hardware, but what I'm not ok with is "Remaining funds from this capital will be invested in other GLBSE companies/bonds, which will ultimately increase Cognitive's earnings". This is vague and incorrect in stating that earnings will ultimately increase. Other companies can fail and lose money, which is why I'm not investing in those companies. Also, nothing specific is given as to what companies Cognitive would invest in, how much would be invested, or on what quantitative or qualitative basis Cognitive would make to invest in companies. In my opinion, there should have been two separate motions, and I'm sorry I didn't come across this sooner.

Another point worth making is that as the sole operator of Cognitive, you have proven yourself to be a great technical operator, manager, communicator, and what have you for running your machines. But what makes you a good investor? I'm not sure that I trust someone else to make investments for me. I'm honestly surprised no one else has brought anything like this up, as I would want to know exactly where the money is going, how it is being spent, and based on what assessment. As I currently hold about 1% of Cognitive I feel that this is something worth bringing up and I'm curious to hear other people's perspectives.

That was really informative thanks for sharing that, Kluge. friedcat, can you elaborate on the evaluated return and how that corresponds to the .55 price point, as well as how the valuation of bonds are different?
213  Economy / Securities / Re: Starting a new FPGA mining farm/contract! Cognitive on [GLBSE] on: May 14, 2012, 01:01:07 AM
Ah I thought the ipo was .55 that's why. Surprised because I originally bought in at .63 so there's been a lot of variation in the past couple weeks.
214  Economy / Securities / Re: Starting a new FPGA mining farm/contract! Cognitive on [GLBSE] on: May 13, 2012, 10:50:43 PM
Why are there so many shares being sold below the ipo price?
215  Economy / Securities / Re: Starting a new FPGA mining farm/contract! Cognitive on [GLBSE] on: May 05, 2012, 04:13:51 PM
Just wanted to drop in and say I am very impressed by your operation and website, you are doing a fantastic job! This really sets the standard for anyone else out there, and I'm sure I'm not the only person when I say this kind of transparency and competence is greatly appreciated. Keep up the good work! I have invested a few shares recently and look forward to doing it again soon.

Thanks, chief.

I would like to be whitelisted because I would like to ask terragubben details about his "Gamma Bitcoin Fund" found here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=74975.0;all

I would like to ask specific details about his experience in investment or indexes, and how he makes his decisions regarding how much/of which bitcoin stocks he invests in each period.

How about an optional, nominal btc donation to skip the hazing
