2001  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-03-19]Criminals are Racing to Cash Out Their Bitcoin on: March 20, 2018, 04:08:38 PM
ViceNews is a site that loves this kind of news. They like flashy click baits about criminal matters. But they never put great depths on these news. They are always superficial and with little information.

Now they are right about this issue of the difficulty of switching Bitcoin to fiat. There has been a race in recent months. Many criminals wanted to exchange the fortune they had accumulated in Bitcoins for fiats and this helped in this downfall. Since the justice of several countries began to investigate these markets with more attention. In addition, many countries are regulating the KYC exchanges and demand.[1]

And even if other currencies offer great possibilities of anonymity[2]. Bitcoin is still virtual gold.[3] Just see the darknet pages on the map[4]. 99% of the movement is still in Bitcoin. This shows that the p2p market offers great opportunities.[5]

2002  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [ZRX] 0X Project Speculation on: March 19, 2018, 03:42:24 AM
Is there any possibility of the new decentralized exchange created by Binance using 0x technology? So far we do not have an ideal project of decentralization that supports several currencies, books, graphs etc. And the ones with the highest potential trade only of ERC20 tokens. I am very curious to know if they will prefer to use a project that is solid and reliable like 0x or try to create something from scratch.
2003  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: March 19, 2018, 03:38:48 AM
The Monero community was against the possibility of Bitmain dominating and defining the future of the market. This is unbelievable and more people should start supporting the currency. But if that fork will result in a competitor like BCash. With people who constantly spread bad news, lies and act against the currency, it will be a bad thing.

2005  Economy / Speculation / Re: Our friend kwukduck back at it with an alt? on: March 19, 2018, 03:32:37 AM
I do not know who he is. Could you provide a bit more context? Is he someone who often speaks bad about Bitcoin? Spread FUD?

There are several people like this, usually, they are people who bet on an opposing project. But the worst is when it comes to orchestrated and paid groups performing on various platforms. We live in an era of Fake News and Bots.
2006  Bitcoin / Press / Re: Bittrex Will Remove 82 Tokens Due to Lack of Liquidity in Small Cryptocurrencies on: March 19, 2018, 03:21:44 AM
They had said that they would send an email to those who had any of those coins. I believe that many of these projects have already died, had a survival with the pump, but now should not have many people interested.
And many of these projects were being used exclusively for groups of signs and pump and dump schemes. Almost like a casino roulette. I think it's interesting that Bittrex are willing to work only with serious projects that have a consistent roadmap.

This is good for the whole environment. Focusing on serious and useful resources will be good for the future of crypto-coins.
2007  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why ETH 460$ on yesterday? on: March 19, 2018, 12:22:19 AM
There is some news saying that EOS developers are moving their funds between exchanges. Although not yet confirmed that they wish to sell, many were scared. Since the volume traded lately is very small and a sale like this could greatly lower the price of ETH.

In addition, there are scaring reports on some failures in ETH contracts. And there are still questions about the ICO ban. They basically use ETH, and if there is a difficulty in launching new projects and advertising them, the ETH price should be lower.

But I see this as a great opportunity to buy more. projects that make smart contracts possible is the future.
2008  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Why do we trust hardware wallet manufacturers? on: March 18, 2018, 11:46:49 PM
In open source projects, such as the majority of wallets, you may think that the reward for finding a flaw in these projects is very high. You do not have to trust the honesty of all those who have technical knowledge. You can rely on greed. In addition, since most of the world lives in an open environment and all those who own Bitcoin are in communities where when a failure occurs, they can scream for the community. And quickly this failure will be known by everyone.
But the best thing about Bitcoin is that you do not have to use a hardware wallet if you do not feel secure. You can use a paperwallet, pendrive. A wallet like Electrum etc.
2009  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: where can I learn more about blockchain? on: March 18, 2018, 11:30:28 PM
The first thing you should do is read the book by Andreas M. Antonopoulos. It is not necessary to read it completely, but the beginning will give you a knowledge that most people do not have.

The second step would be to read the discussions here on the forum, on quora and on Reddit. This would give you an idea of the community's feelings and how people imagine the future of Bitcoin.

The third step is to read the whitepaper written by Satoshi. It is a very simple text and not as technical as some imagine.

Never pay for a course without first researching the author in the community. If someone is selling the course, but it is difficult to find their opinions on the forum, Reddit or other community. This means that he is just repacking another course and selling as if it were his. This is very common.

2010  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-03-18] Reuters - G20 watchdog ... holds fire on cryptocurrencies on: March 18, 2018, 11:11:06 PM
This is spectacular news. And I think that's one of the reasons for this rise in the last hour. And it is very likely that in a few hours, when Asian markets open, we will have a rise with volume. After so much bad news, one after another, which created a climate of complete uncertainty, it is very good to start a week with good news
2011  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Top 10 Crypto Exchanges on: March 18, 2018, 07:42:52 AM
This site is very interesting, I did not know it. It shows quite different numbers in relation to the volume we were accustomed to. Binance, and his CEO, were often saying that they were the first. But in this ranking it is clear that it is not. In addition, many rankings often ignore the strength of BitMex. They are gigantic, but because it is a market for leverage, not an exchange, they are usually ignored.
2012  Economy / Speculation / Re: Mt Gox confirms he didn't crash the market, panic sellers did (again) on: March 17, 2018, 09:55:02 PM
I still think they should have sold by auction or by OTC. It would be very interesting if large groups of people who follow the idea of HODL could participate. Thus, they would avoid any possibility of a large dump. And in the long run, it would be very beneficial for everyone.
2013  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Has anyone got a link to Satoshi's first implementation of Bitcoin? on: March 17, 2018, 09:44:12 PM
Some of the early distributions (code and compiled binaries) are available here: http://satoshi.nakamotoinstitute.org/code/

Is there any other project that has tried to start from the beginning for research or education propose? It would be interesting to see in a congress or seminar a project demonstrating how it all started in real time.
It is unbelievable how Satoshi has worked so much almost alone. If he is just a person and not a team. There were some other ideas in the beginning as building a poker game and a marketplace. But he has gives up.

Theymos has explained why Satoshi didn't continue with the idea of "people to do all economic activity through the Bitcoin client"

Quote
Yeah, Satoshi originally planned for people to do all economic activity through the Bitcoin client. Due to this, the client didn't get any sort of command-line version for a very long time, and 0.1.x was Windows-only.

The client was supposed to support auctions, reputation, etc. But Satoshi didn't have a very good design for any of this. For example, his solution for preventing spam and ensuring that scammers couldn't immediately create new accounts was apparently for every user to solve some Bitcoin blocks, which today sounds totally nonsensical -- no one mines blocks solo anymore. I think that he realized the design issues, abandoned all of this, and added the RPC interface so that websites could do this stuff instead.
2014  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Can someone have my private key ? on: March 17, 2018, 06:45:16 AM
There is a website where you could check all private keys. It will take some time to find, more them your whole life, but your private key is in there.
http://www.allprivatekeys.com/allprivatekeys.php

One thing that few understand, is that any password for anything you do on the internet is available. The password you use in your email, to enter here in the forum etc.

Because all services use a finite combination of characters.

But in order to find one exactly password, you need to try several times. In the case of Bitcoin, the possibility of finding by trial can be considered impossible. And it is still possible to use a multisig or use another layer of security

2015  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Lost or Stolen Bitcoin, please advise on: March 17, 2018, 05:52:32 AM
"I sent the Bitcoin to an address for deposit."I came across the vendor on another site

First thing. Is it the exact same address that the vendor has given to you? Put both on a notepad and compare.

"I came across the vendor on another site"

What another site? Is the same vendor using another site? You need to give a better explanation so people could help you. But one thing is for sure, you will never be able to ask for a chargeback from Bitcoin. If you have sent, it is not yours anymore.
2016  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Mtgox trustee monitor on: March 17, 2018, 03:40:02 AM
Is there any service like this one to use to track other address? I use a googlesheet and it is good, but not great. And blockchain.info sometimes block my access to their api if I request to many times.
2017  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-02-08] Alibaba Files 43 Blockchain Patents in 2017, Guess Who’s After Ali? on: March 17, 2018, 03:32:04 AM
What would these patents be? Is there any website explaining?

I do not know if I'm happy with such news. bitcoin emerged as a possibility to give freedom mainly to individuals. See corporations surrounding patents to protect their self and perhaps take away the freedom to create and develop new open and free technologies, it does not seem a good thing.
2018  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-03-16] ICOs Are Over, So What About The Product? on: March 16, 2018, 08:32:16 PM
This project was stupid, uninteresting done by people who only want to benefit from momentum. Yes, stupid projects that are not revolutionary or offer real utility or a new protocol will not succeed in your ICO.

They talk as if the problem is just a lack of resources, but they forget that the project itself can generate resources if it is good enough. Just see the services section here of the forum.

ICO is still revolutionary and will help in this redefinition of what we mean by decentralized financing.
2019  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: how many accepted currencies are advisable for an ICO on: March 16, 2018, 07:01:58 AM
Usually, only two coins are accepted. BTC or ETH. Depending on where it will be launched, ie which platform they will use, they can also accept the main currency of this platform. They can launch in NEM, NEO, Waves etc.

Some even use other tokens, but then it would be a matter of opportunity or publicity. They can accept Monero if it is an anonymous token. Or the hundreds of shitcoins that came out of the last forks, if it's another stupid fork.
2020  Bitcoin / Press / [2018-03-15]Peter Thiel, paypal co-founder, says he's 'long bitcoin' on: March 16, 2018, 05:35:42 AM
On Thursday, tech investor and Facebook boardmember Peter Thiel chatted with journalist Maria Bartiromo during a fireside chat at the Economic Club of New York. Thiel talked about a range of topics including the viability of cryptocurrencies, the results of the 2020 election if Trump were to run again, and Silicon Valley's insulated culture.

Thiel invested early in bitcoin, and said he's "long bitcoin, neutral to skeptical on everything else."

"I'm not exactly sure whether or not I would encourage people to turn out and buy these cryptocurrencies right now," he said.

In the future, Thiel predicted that there will be one prevailing cryptocurrency that will viewed as the digital equivalent of gold. "It will most likely be bitcoin," Thiel said, although he hinted at the possibility of ethereum.

Thiel seemed unswayed by the increasing speculation regarding what many feel to be the cryptocurrency bubble.

"Any of the objections most people would have to bitcoin are the same objections people would have had to gold," he said. "But money is a bubble that never pops ... and there is this bubble-like aspect to money that can be quite stable."

Thiel, who recently announced that he intends to move from his longtime home of Silicon Valley to Los Angeles, reiterated his thoughts that the tech hub has become the home of pervasively hermetic ideologies. More than once, Thiel described the valley's tech community as having a "lemming-like" quality which lacked diversity of thought.

"I thought it would be healthier to be somewhere outside [Silicon Valley]," Thiel said.

Thiel stressed the importance of investors considering the geographic expansion of the tech community, not only within the United States, but globally as well.

"This geographic question is something we should be thinking about super hard[...]" Thiel stated. "We're living in a very different world where we have to think about how we get American companies to compete globally."
