Hi Joel .
I have not heard back  from you regarding my mail.
Didn't I ask you to send me details which proves your reports were successful ? I'm sorry I'm kinda lost here. But as DarkStar said, you should report as much as posts as possible however reporting accounts becomes a little difficult if you are using addresses/quoted posts in the context.

2023  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: seniors were the reasons of this merit implementation? on: March 18, 2018, 10:59:53 AM
Well, I would like to welcome my self in this discussion from the four corners of the earth.

I am thinking that merit implementation was because of the old members here. If they did not do or started shitposting then all the new comers will follow their foot steps.

Every tree bears it's own fruit!  Now merit comes to cutoff the trees that bears bad fruit ( none sense massages). The consequence new comers bear heavy load.  What will be the solution to lessen the load? I guess one person will assume that post and post will give more change to get merit that mislead the scope of merit purpose.

I know by starting this topic more seniors will probably touch their ego. I know I am just new but I hope this will give good impact.

I think I should request Theymos to start a Troll merit and  Troll section so that you (+ like minded) have a designated section.
Off course your efforts need to be recognized and where the troll merit will play it part.

Hi Joel .
I have not heard back  from you regarding my mail.

Anyways , I believe more in "Report to Moderators"  instead of creating threads about it .(I think it help me to preserve my identity ,retaliation and effective as request directly goes to the Moderator's queue )
Please find below the my stats for the "Report to Moderators".
https://i.imgur.com/5PngBFz.png

19 reports with 100% accuracy is hardly anything to be proud of - it's very simple to get to that just by reporting threads in wrong sections. This is what I personally have from pretty much just requesting threads be moved to the correct section:

Actually I forgot to quote the original discussion.

Hi Joel

I once reported a user and his threads were removed too.
I directly reported in mail to moderator and got positive response too (That his started threads were removed).
Will I am eligible for merit, If require I can personally pm that mail as evidence.
I am bit susceptible in publishing in open to avoid any kind to retaliation.
Honestly it's too much of an effort to verify those personal emails as 1.It invades your privacy 2.Time consuming. However,I will do it for now. Please message me with the email content along with the senders email/name so I can have it verified from them.

I guess even 10% of us start using this button, then forum will be clear of spam threads/post in couple of days. But instead I always find some  spam thread and some more user replying in that spam thread. I report only spam (not wrongly posted topics, and I always give benefit of doubt if I think that thread is even 1% relevant). It is really bad instead of reporting the spam thread, people are further posting in these kind of thread. I never said I am proud of my stats but I am able to recognize spam and report them.
2026  Other / Meta / Re: theymos, monetize this forum ;) on: March 18, 2018, 06:14:13 AM
What do you think about forcing users to pay for wearing payed signatures?

Who will decide signature is paid, It simply mean everybody should need to pay for signature for whatever purpose they are using.
(I simply see, somebody create a forum /or secret deal outside to sell signature here and every user can claim it is  personal signature)

The price should not be too expensive but enough to make it inconvenient for massive spammers, the equilibrium between the two.

The forum is global and there is so much economic disparity in world, I think then we need to decide the price individually for each country of the world.

Let me go to principle of economics to explain how paid signature will not help in reducing spam.
Let take example of oil , If company buys oil at $100 ,they will take profit and let say they will sell at $120. Now if they buy oil at $150 , they will not going to sell at $120, they will sell at $150+. So paid signature will just add the cost of advertising.

Merit is a great idea in theory but we're just seeing people farm merit now and those with a lot of accounts or "friends" just trade it between themselves in a you scratch my back I'll scratch yours scenario.

We should decay the sMerits. Theymos was already aware of this scenario of Merit abuse while implementing it.

Also, more members getting involved in Bitcoin increases the acceptance of the currency as a thing and also pushes the price up a bit.
So many members discussing Bitcoin shows that the currency has a user-base behind it and that it's potentially worth its value as it is.
And it helps with the delocalisation of the currency and if more peopole have a small amount, it becomes more valuable as it's split across more people.

The real problem is forum is not getting more members but it is getting more fake accounts and they are posting rubbish.
To add value to bitcoin we need "head" not more hands.

What are everyone's ideas for improving post quality?

I have mostly ruled out:

 - Removing signatures or sig ads globally.
 - Requiring payment to wear sig ads.
 - Banning account sales.

I also earlier thought of "Removing signatures or sig ads globally." might be good solution but now google and facebook against crypto ads and we remove it from here also, then  they are left with very limited options.

Now coming to real problem of spam.

I think SMAS list is a good initiative.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1545652.0

Whoever caught spamming should be added to list with timestamp of first occurence.
Two more column of occurrence/number of time  and latest timestamp added in the list to keep track, how many time user spammed and last time when user caught spamming, and if somebody caught spamming more than 2 times in a week, then ban the user for a week.
User who is featured in this list will have there signature disabled at once (So they cannot take part in any sig campaign.)

if even 10% of user here use "Report To Moderator" to report spam  then in no time we will get this list populated.

Additional step we can take to further filter out.
Only user that have earned Merit (not default merits by virtue of rank)  in last 3 months are allowed to take part in sig campaign.
Check of merited post to verify that merit is not traded.
Campaign should not ask more than 14 post a week

2027  Other / Off-topic / Re: 😎 [ANN] The Utmost Epic, Totally Tubular sMerit Giveaway ~ 170 sM Available 😎 on: March 16, 2018, 04:03:38 AM
Hi Gleb

Please find my quoted posts.

1. Awareness against scam.

Hi All.

Increase in the  popularity of crypto currencies attracted lot of investor but also lot of scammers too.

Below is the common  traps/scam in crypto currencies that should be avoided and safeguard your crypto investment.

1. Free Bitcoin generators:
I came across the variety of sites that say that they have find security flaw in bitcoin code/or bugs in mining pools and they are able to generate the BTC for free. You put your bitcoin wallet address and they will generate from 1 to 3 BTC within minutes. The real scam starts now, when they say to send .2 BTC to them as miner fees to claim your generated BTC. I never tested them but it is clear scam when someone is asking you to send BTC to give you back the BTC. Why do not they send that generated BTC minus miners fees in BTC instead of asking  first to send miner fees?

2. Cloud Minings:
There will be variety of sites that promise you to provide hashpowers to generate/mine bitcoins,litecoins/ethereum and in return of some 30 to 40 Dollar packages. These sites will be newly created and offering promising returns. But they last for few weeks only(A quick cash grab and shutting down the business). Even the sites that were existing for years , not all investors are happy. So investing in Cloud mining as a newbie is a big no.

3. Fake Twitter/social Media accounts:
a.) These fake account impersonate a famous personality in crypto world (like John McAfee) and will ask you to donate some small amount of BTC to them and in return they will promise  greater amount of BTC(Like you send me .02 BTC and in return this impostor promise to send .2 BTC).
b.) Sometime it will be fake account of some popular website/exchange to scam the users.

4. Scam airdrops.
Although airdrop looks safe bet but in scam airdrops you will be requested to give some donation to receive the airdrops (like .01 Ethereum). Be careful in these airdrops and do not send your money to them.

5.) Scam coins and ICOs.
Although a full proof method cannot be guranteed to identify the scam coins and scam ICOs, but still following point can be taken into consideration before investing.

a.) Developers promise very high returns on investment, Giving too much referral bonus or whole setup look like a ponzi scheme.
b.) Coin/Token is ready without any whitepaper or poorly written whitepaper.
c.) Coin is not solving any problem or implementing any new idea.
d.) Website look poor, Hosted in free platform like "Wix" or there is no https for website.
e.) Dev reserved too much coins for them, or too much premined or any other scheme that is giving undue benefit to development.
f.) No source code available.
g.) Roadmap putting emphasis on listing coin in exchanges instead of doing some real development.
h.) Team members are not known at all

6.) Do not beleive others without DYOR .
It is quite possible that person advising about coin/token is associated with pump and dump, or getting some personal gain like referral bonus so it is better to do your own research.

7. Precautions while buying coin/token in Exchanges.
a.) If you have no intention to trade your coin in near future then it is best deal to transfer your coin to your own wallet.
b.) If coin is forked recently then also check that exchange is having coin from new fork.
c.) Do check if exchange wallet is available or in maintainence mode before buying coins.
d.) Check the exchange withdrawal fees beforehand the purchase of specific coin.
e.) Send small amount to your wallet to verify transaction instead of sending all coins in one transactions.

8. Password security.
Create strong passwords by using combination of letters (uppercase/smallcase) numbers and special characters. If possible then use 2FA authentication.

9. Phishing attacks.
Do not open the suspicious links. Bookmark the original links, instead of searching the internet for link of sites.

10. Wallet safety.
a.) Do not give your wallet private key to anybody.
b.) Always backup your wallet.dat in some external device.
c.) Private key of wallet should be safely stored in some other place or external device. Do not save private key in same device (In case of Trojan or virus attacks). Save your key in other device/place because if you forget your key then you will lose your investment forever.
d.) Keep your wallet locked if possible offline too.

11. While copy pasting your wallet address , recheck the address that is pasted is same what you copied. (you might be affected by Coin RPG malware)

Last but not the least, Never invest the money  that you can't afford to lose.

2. Awareness against cheaters.

Here are five tips for turning the inherent volatility of Bitcoin trading in your favor:

1. Become fluent in technical analysis
2. Adopt a sustainable pace
3. Stay aware of news items
4. Implement stop losses
5. Use prudent leverage

3. Playing my part against spammers.

I have been thinking how to utilise my merits in the most constructive way possible and I came up with this idea.

(Note : Merits will only be given if the reported account is banned/temporary banned by a forum moderator thereby considering it as a successful report)

• Bonus merit points considering the time and efforts put in to find the shill accounts.
                       _______________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________

3.Reporting accounts abusing the Merit system: Suspected users that are abusing merit 3.0

(Note : Merits will only be given if the reported abuse is verified and accepted by the maintainer of the thread)

• Amount of merits given will depend on the number of abuses successfully reported and your rank.

4. Helping the community member

Anyone have a resolution for that ?

Every time i want to find latest topics , i just know the way checking last comment by people . It takes me to much time .

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=39.0;sort=first_post;desc;

Here board=39.0  is Beginners&Help Board. So you need to add "sort=first_post;desc;"  only , after you reached your desired board.

5. Providing my honest opinion.

Hey Guys I really like the Steemit network. Ive always felt that there should be some sort of compensation system built into likes, and shares and all that stuff. I am interested in finding other people that have and write original content on steemit because i want to see what they have to say. So i dont really want a bunch of re-posters, i want to read blogs people on here have written.

Also, what are your thoughts on Steemit? Do you think it has some fatal flaw?

The social media that is more commonly used is being monitored and censored more and more, and quality content has no choice but to adapt to the new networks. I feel like any real information that will come out in the future will do so on platforms like dtube and steemit.
What do you think? Do you still trust what you see on FB and Twitter?

I'd love to hear what you all think.

I am in steemit network for more than 2 months and they have lot of information but I think they are only horizontally diversified. (Jack of all trades, master of none).  If you want to further dive in a topic , I think it might not be an ideal platform. So Bitcoin talk can be your one stop for gathering/understanding for all your crypto currency curiosity but steemit will offer something of everything (like cryptocurrency, photography, story, nature ,funny, food etc. and list can go on.)
I think you can find original content because they have a "@cheetah" bot that is able to determine copy and pasted content and people can flag the content but real catch is that a member of higher reputation can destroy the reputation of member that is having reputation lower than him but reverse is not effective.

Now coming to question of fatal flaw, I did not understand the context.
If you are just login as a another social media site then just make sure never to lose your password.
If it is for earning from steemit, then you have to ready invest some steem of your own to succeed. (Either as a curator or Author) so I can say platform has flaw that you need to invest before succeeding in most cases. (Authors are using/paying bots for upvotes, so real audience is much less)

About any social media they work on same principle "Fire is a good servant but a bad master" so we have to filter the information.
I think information originate arise from steemit platform will be real  because no one like to put own reputation in stake.

These are few post. Your feedback is also very welcome.

my suggestion to dev forum for making this system ... every member MIN RANK MEMBER  have sMerit every day ,

so everyday sMerit can be generate

Code:
Legendary: 10sMerit perday
Hero: 5merit perday
Full Member: 2 meri per day
member: 1 smerit per day

Very interesting, You received one Merit till now and given one merit .(Interestingly you given/received merit from same user within the interval of 10 minutes).  Same is true for the user to whom you have given the merit. (Might be you both are merit abuser).

Now coming to your suggestion then you need to understand below lines clearly.
Merit is not a right but a privilege that is getting driven by good quality/useful posts.
(Altough there are some merit abuse but in the end merit of these abuser will exhaust)

2031  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: A moderator deleted my post for no reason on: March 12, 2018, 03:21:06 AM
I take part to an airdrop and It was required to post the proof of authentication on the ann of it.

After few hours a mod deleted my post and I don't understand why, because it wasn't spam and the airdrop required me to do it for dimostrate that I am not a bot.

I don't know what it is the reason  Huh

Are you sure  that only your post is deleted instead of whole thread.

Actually airdrops thread, or giving incentives for posting in particular thread can be cause of ban. Please go through below post for more clarity.

Giveaway threads are not allowed  by theymos

PS: Mods are not deleting anything for no reasons, It is shame people using this forum do not want to take pain to read the rules, when they are clearly pinned.
2032  Other / Meta / Re: It's all about merits. on: March 10, 2018, 11:27:04 PM

BTW, can an automated exam be created here to pass from newbie to junior member? It should contains simple questions about ranking & merit system mainly, if you fail to pass the test, you couldn't be a junior and you should wait 14 days before passing it again.
Junior member will require 1 smerit, they couldn't receive any smerit until they get 1 from the test which can be done whenever they want starting from brand new.

It's too late at that point. I think it should be part of the membership application. It could be more useful than a Captcha. Smiley

I think  before somebody post his first post,he should get pop up ,please go through below topic (Bitcointalk.org rules) and pass the test.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=703657.0

There should be 10 multiple choice question in test and need to give correct answer of all 10 to be able to pass. Once failed ,you can attempt the test next day only.

Why newbies only, I think we all should give this test.

I really hate the threads in which user say "Sorry, I will not copy and  paste next time,Please forgive me, Please unban me,I do not know the rules ".
2033  Other / Meta / Re: Hey MODS !!!! Could you tell me why this Acount is BANNED !!! on: March 10, 2018, 05:30:13 AM
Why do not we send a email to user stating the reason of  ban, At least it will save a thread on Meta, Rework of other moderator to find again why the user was banned.

I will suggest , if user is banned or suspended it should be put in user  profile. So that everyone should be aware that user is banned now and take lesson that they should avoid activities that can cause ban.
2034  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Is negative trust working? on: March 10, 2018, 05:10:13 AM
I see so many of the users of the forum who are having negative trusts getting accepted into bounty campaigns! Most of the campaigns do not allow users with negative trust to enroll in their campaign but there are some which do not follow this rule. Shouldn't the users with negative trusts be not allowed to set up signatures of any kind from the forum's end itself ?

To ensure that trust actually works and means something, shouldn't the campaigns which accept participants of negative trust be not allowed on this forum?

This is the post where trust system formally announced.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=211858.0

Below are the guidelines for giving trust

On feedback pages, you can leave trade feedback. There are no rules for this, but here are some guidelines:
- List all of the trades that you do with people (or at least the major ones). This is not like #bitcoin-otc where you give people just one score.
- Do not rate people based on the quality of their posts.
- Older ratings count for more, so don't delete old ratings if you can avoid it.
- "Risked BTC" is how much money you could have lost if the person you're rating had turned out to be a scammer. Or, if they are a scammer, it's how much you lost. Use the BTC value at the time of reporting.
- It's OK to post a rating about the person in general, not tied to a specific trade.
- If you want to make a rating stronger, increase "Risked BTC". 50 extra risked BTC is equivalent to an additional rating.

So if you observe , most of the trust score given do not follow these guidelines.
Person who has given the trust is only capable of modifying it. No Administrator/Staff will able to modify it.

Even "Theymos" has negative trust . (Al tough person who has given him that trust did not followed any of the above guidelines, he just given negative trust because he is not agreeing with the views of Theymos)

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=35

So in short, this is most abused system and you have to determine yourself whether you can trust that person or not.
2035  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Looking for merit points in any way? on: March 09, 2018, 09:05:27 AM

I wanted an upgrade for my class
So I posted information I copied from other sites
I did not know it was wrong
So do not publish random flyers in order to gain merit points
Because I tried it and got 2-points confidence because of what I did
I know I'm wrong
I do not want the  beginner To make the same mistake
So if you want merit points help beginner
It will come to you not trying to come by any way
Do not publish without mentioning the source
Do not publish for publication
I would like to thank those who guided me and showed me the mistake that I did
I hope that no one else will be in the same mistake
I wish everyone success  Kiss Cheesy

Since you got negative trust from Vod. So I will suggest you to go through the below topic, might it will help.

2037  Economy / Services / Re: A simple bitcoin Q/A on: March 08, 2018, 06:56:32 PM
Question #9:
A bitcoin transaction with 6 confirmations is usually considered to be secure. Why is it so?

Maybe this is the right answer.

Quote
There is nothing special about the default, often-cited figure of 6 blocks. It was chosen based on the assumption that an attacker is unlikely to amass more than 10% of the hashrate, and that a negligible risk of less than 0.1% is acceptable. Both these figures are arbitrary, however; 6 blocks are overkill for casual attackers, and at the same time powerless against more dedicated attackers with much more than 10% hashrate.
https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Confirmation#cite_note-1

I will add that probability of reversing the transaction drop off exponentially with each confirmation. So it is always dependent on amount of transaction vs confirmation . If the amount of transaction  is more than cost of reversing the transaction of 6 confirmation then merchant will wait for more confirmation.
2038  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The english language improvement thread on: March 08, 2018, 05:49:19 PM
Focus on fluency, not grammar
Try some tongue twisters

If you focus on fluency instead of grammar then you will end up with gibberish. Once you got basics and vocabulary then fluency will automatically follow. Tongue Twisters are for improving the pronunciations they are no help in improving written English.

--  snipped --

I am in complete agreement with your tips.

2039  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The english language improvement thread on: March 08, 2018, 05:20:47 PM
We have a lot of potentially valuable members who are receiving negative comments because english isn't their first language. I thought that, rather than calling them names and penalising them, it would be better if we could provide some advice to help them improve their english posting. I've started this thread to see if I, and some other members who have english as their first language, can provide this help.

This thread is self-moderating, and I will have to make a few rules to ensure that it remains useful.

- All posts must be about Bitcoin, Bitcoin price movements, and its place in the world economy.
- Posts about alt coins, bounties and other topics so beloved of the sig spammers will be deleted.
- Please don't give advice about the structure and content of a post if english isn't your first language.
- This thread is text only, so no fancy formatting or embedded graphics please.

Obviously your command of english isn't a barrier to posting in this thread, but please do the best you can to help us to understand the content of your post.

So lets go for it - post a comment, or ask a question

Thanks Jetcash
This is very good and constructive lead. I am very  happy that  instead of calling names you decided to help.

Below are the points I take care while posting:
1. Words that are underlined with red line : I correct them, just right click them,Google automatically provide suggestions of correct spelling.
2. Read my post again before clicking "Post" :  While reading the post again sometimes I got the idea that particular sentence is not clearly mentioning the idea that I want to convey. I re-frame these sentences.
Even English is not our native language but these  checks at least  improve the communication.

For improving English I am more interested in reading books and newspaper (that can vastly increases the vocabulary.)
If not sure of exact meaning of a word, then better to check in dictionary rather than assuming meaning.

Note: It is very important  to learn correct because "unlearning"  is much more difficult than learning.
2040  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Safeguard your crypto investment and avoid getting scammed. on: March 06, 2018, 07:56:36 PM
Good post OP. You seem to be one of those who were jolted to post better after the Merit requirement. Keep getting involved in the discussion and keep learning in order to be able to contribute more.

That way we can all be better off than simply spamming for Sig Campaigns and be really involved with the community. Sending some little merit your way.

Regarding the point about scammy ICOs these days, there is just no end to it. They are also some of the better managed scams where you cannot raise a question even if you lose the money.

The best advice would be to never invest your BTC or ETH in any of those. If you are a small investor, then simply doing some campaigns should be sufficient for you (After you have good enough idea that it maybe legit).
Investing in them a majority of your holdings is always going to backfire.

Less jolted but more motivated. Thanks for merits/appreciation. This post is really my experience of my crypto currency journey.
Will always try my best to contribute in this forum.
