2022  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Any reason NOT to use trailing stop? on: April 23, 2014, 08:53:51 AM
Hi and thank you for your answer.

Your graphic shows an upwards trend and an exit 'taking profit' once a certain price point or target is reached that is not an example of a trailing stop that is a take profit.
What I wanted to show with this graphic is that by choosing to small of a percentage, you could get less profits than possible - this is frustrating but you still don't lose money.

but overtime they allow you to remove emotions from your decision making and exit mechanically.
Exactly. I'm reading to win less, as long as I can get the emotion out of the equation.

Most BTC exchanges are are new and not sophisticated in the type of trading 'tools' they offer (yet) as Bitcoin evolves this will change and sophistication will increase. That is why the exchanges you mention don't offer such things as trailing stops. You can however do your own trailing stop on a piece of paper or spreadsheet and manually update it and take appropriate action when price moves against you.
I a world where 100% of my attention would be focused on any crypto I invest in (which is esssentially impossible), yes. But many cryptos, sleeping, having a life... Paper is not a solution, at least for me. Robots required.

Interesting, as long as you have the right chart (most cryptos don't)

Besides, I contacted Kraken and below is a part of their answer that particularly stroke me:

Quote from: Dargo
Just using a trailing stop is a pretty simplistic trading strategy and it's unlikely to yield a profit without careful study and experience behind it. If your plan is to just put on a trailing stop at X%, then buy back later for a profit after it triggers, then put on another trailing stop to repeat the scenario, this strategy will almost certainly lose you money if you follow it mechanically under all market conditions.

Granted, maybe what is right for major league currencies (ltc, btc plus fiat, that is Kraken's) might not hold true for minor league (e.g. Mintpal/Cryptsy). But still, that turned me somehow off on trailing stop. If I just need to tweak the percentage, this is OK, but if it is more than than, well...
2023  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [Exchange] SwapHole.com - API Available - 2FA on: April 23, 2014, 08:39:54 AM
I like it: not much talking, much more acting Smiley

One remark though: since you charge for market order, most of the transaction are done at market price. This is really unsettling for me, It is like a gamble. I placed both a buy and a sell order on AsiaCoin three days ago (and AsiaCoin has all the volume) and it has not been filed yet, even though I placed a buy order at the highest price and a sell order at the lowest price.

Do not rename BMR, Bitmonero is much better than another "xxxcoin", "monero" is somewhat similar to "coin" in many languages and for sure it's less awkward to pronounce - remember, not everybody speaks English.
We have a proposal internally that I think you will love. The problem is that by discussing it publicly, we would attract cybersquatters - it seems it already happened for bitmonero. If you are interested, PM  me.
2025  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][BMR] Bitmonero - a new coin based on CryptoNote technology - LAUNCHED on: April 22, 2014, 11:36:50 PM
I am almost certain you are in this for a quick buck and could care less about the message and the technology.
Not on that one, I don't plan to sell my Bitmonero. <teaser>We actually an agenda</teaser>.

There should also be a way to embed it into the Reddit pages as well.
Good idea, I think we have some people conversant in reddit here, no?

Done as well, and I can't seem to get the embed scrypt to work on the forum, I don't think it's possible.
Could be something to add on the MintCoin Fund website. I'll ask our webmistress.

Mintcoin Fund:  How is something that dumps Mintcoins onto the market supposed to increase the price of Mint?  Awareness? People already know of Mint.
Mintcoin Fund is not about raising Mint price. It is about accomplishing a goal. Increasing mint price is just a consequence. That's why it works, because, as I said before here and on another community thread, a coin without a cause can only go that far.
"Mintcoin Fund is not about raising Mint price"
I knew you would focus on this part Smiley Please reread my text.
For all of you: I am also working on something unrelated to crypto, longevity (see http://longevityalliance.org if you are interested - heard of Google's Calico?). There is one motto there: we are not working on making people live longer. We are working on making them live healthier. Longevity is just the natural consequence.
Same thing here for mintcoin. If you want the consequences, work on the causes.

Various Updates:  What does this even mean?  Fixing grammar and spelling mistakes are consider updates.
It meant "too much things I don't feel like detailling once, because anyway, they will show up by themselves. A dev rarely mention every debugging he did or every optimization he made. He just said "I was working on this". Same here.
Just detail 1 or 2 big things, we don't need the details of everything.
Alright but later, once I have catched up work and IF I am not too tired (I' is almost 1AM for me and I am working tomorrow). I promise I will, I just can't promise for tonight. Deal?

Android Wallet:  Something that actually has some merit.  But if it's closed source, you're going to get burned by the alt community, if it's open everyone is just going to copy it and you have nothing again.
Please read above. Condition for the bounty was that it would be open-source so it will be open-source. Yes, it will be copied by anyone and this is a good thing - as long as we accept the fact that it will be and we try to capitalise on this. We are about transparency and bringing something more than satoshi to the crypto-world. And we deliver.
Great news, while you're all about transparency can you show us a ledger for the 700 million premine?
This I cannot because I am not the dev - the dev has it, not me and there won't be 700 since some had been donated already. What I can show you is the amount of money on the several donations I am hosting.

For those of you that don't know, whales move the altcoin markets, and I can't see them pushing through all the sell walls and all the whales circling to unload.  About 50% is being held by the top 50 wallets, mintcoins are so concentrated at the top, that I don't see any pumping group risking going too high on this coin.
This is real issue for every crypto. The Gini index for crypto is catastropic. I am thinking of some ideas to reduce this but nothing clear for the moment. At least, not clear enough that I feel confident to say out loud in the open.
A better distribution of coins would help.
I agree wholeheartedly. We can't force people to share their wealth, but we have other way to convince them - this is the "secret" part that I am not ready to talk about Smiley

As soon as some good news is released, on cue the BC trolls are back again.
As strange as it is, could it be jealousy? Or even worse, "meeeh, people are talking about something else than us!"

How about we stop focusing on the current price, and instead focus on the fact that this coin is actually working to do something beneficial for the world (http://mintcoinfund.org/) and beneficial for all PoS cryptocurrencies (android wallet).
Well said. Look at Karmacoin: they should be an example for all of us.

Price-focus DOES work... for a time. Because the price cannot increase forever. Litecoin had a focus: GPU-hostile (then later ASIC-hostile). Peercoin has one thing too: first PoS. Mastercoin also has one, and so has NxT. Crypto whose only goal is to increase in price are essentially calling for a quick death, once the price stops increasing - because most supporters are just mercenary - nothing wrong about that, we're in finance after all, as long as you are fine with it. Or else they find themselves a cause, a raison d'être beyond mere price increase. Even blitzcoin has a cause: day-trading!

We have a cause. And we intend to shape it.

Even mgburks sounds like hes sold his MINT  Embarrassed
Surprise! An announcement on mintcoin and guess who is coming? Some things really are predictable.

So mr_random how is Blackcoin going? Jupiter? Why are you wasting time, something to fear? Maybe that Pluto will take longer than expected?

 I created Cynosure for intemediation

So what is the story with the Android wallet? When will it be fully functional and released to the public?
i think paspi is really into it. check his latest update. better release a solid product than rush the things.

guys i don't remember: is it possible to not release it completely open source? those blackcoin guys will copy it within a week if it's any good! it wouldn't be fair!!! any ideas?

The wallet bounty from the developer is on the condition that the Android wallet is open source, this goes with the ideals and concepts of the way Satoshi envisioned things. As well as all the QT wallets and such are Open Source, so to use them as templates, you have to keep it open source.
A way around this is to publicly encourage other PoS coin to use our wallet. That way, Blackcoin could not boast about it. I call this the "shouting louder" technique. The louder we mention the wallet, the less people could pretend it it theirs (so, we should also contact ghostcoin, zeitcoin and, yes, even peercoin if they don't have one). Plus, it will ensure publicity for mintcoin.

Who in the marketing team will take care of this? paspi is busy with coding, so this must be someone else.

Congratulation for your initiative. I was just reading GrumpyCoin thread minutes ago and it seems you both had the same issue of a dev forgetting about its coin and being unhappy it succeeded without him. Must be common, I guess.

I will try to follow (from afar) how your initiative will hold. I think a lot of people in the alt community are tired of pointless pump and dump coin and want coins with a meaning (like Karmacoin has). Happy Earth Day to you!
2037  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ♥GrumpyCoin Community♥ ★ NEW WALLET ★ NOW TRADING ON MINTPAL! ★ on: April 22, 2014, 07:37:00 PM
Congratulation to have made it to Mintpal! It seems by reading the previous thread you have had you share a bad moment. Trust me: I sympathize, we've been there to.

Happy Earth Day and long live the Grumpy (I have some Grumpy, by the way)!
2038  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Earth Day - Mintcoin Day on: April 22, 2014, 06:16:50 PM
This is far from the only announcement for today! We are also releasing mintbay.net, an auction platform à la ebay which accepts mintcoin as a currency. Also worthy of note is mintwoot.com, this time for buying products.

David, thanks for the update. I will try to sell one of my R9 290s on there just as soon as I can figure out exactly how to set up an auction.
Thanks dogechose. unek is the one in charge of mintbay. The first auctions will receive free mintcoin (I guess unek will post something about it)

Regardind mintcoinfund: we have to take care of focusing content on sustainable development. It would be rather difficult to simply explain that using mintcoin is better for the environment than using good ol' USD or EUR. So, most news on mintcoinfund must be directly related to environmental project. That being said, some mentions on new mintcoin-based services are worth mentionning. For instance, I'd like we contact every merchant who has accepted mintcoin as a currency to have a five-liner about its activity. But this would require contacting them (by starting with a template mail). Who's in?
2039  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Earth Day - Mintcoin Day on: April 22, 2014, 05:42:45 PM
Today is Earth Day. Today is Mintcoin Day.

We are really proud to announce today a series of event to celebrate our common goal toward sustainable developement and environmental awaress.

Today we are releasing the Mintcoin Fund website — mintcoinfund.org. Mintcoin Fund is an initiative for setting up, organising and financing sustainable projects. It also gives you the list of almost 50 merchants ready to embrace a sustainable cryptocurrency by accepting it as a mean of payment.

The first project nominated by the Mintcoin Fund is the Redwood Reforestation Project (a.k.a. “Sonoma County”). It is a part of the California Forest Improvement Program devoted to reforest California.

This is far from the only announcement for today! We are also releasing mintbay.net, an auction platform à la ebay which accepts mintcoin as a currency. Also worthy of note is mintwoot.com, this time for buying products.

Would you like to know a bit more about mintcoin? Check out the main site, mintcoin.cc (pending a major overhaul soon), and get some mints for free at earncryptocoins.com/mintcoin, or Twitter (@FreeMintCoin). And also get the first Mintcoin's newsletter.

More things to come soon, including one that people expected for a loooong time.

Today it is EarthDay. Today it is MintcoinDay. Steady and sustainable.
2040  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][CHA] Chancecoin protocol, client, and coin for decentralized dice betting on: April 22, 2014, 02:41:04 PM
We set the house edge to 2% initially for all bets using Chancecoin, but after much discussion and consideration, we feel strongly about lowering the house edge to 1%. Currently several Bitcoin dice betting websites, such as JustDice and PrimeDice, are using 1% house edge, and to be competitive in this space, we have to match that. We believe that this change will make Chancecoin more attractive for dice players, and the lower rate will add more value to investors from a bigger user base and higher bet volume than the difference in the house edge per bet.

This is the only change in the protocol that we have wanted to make since the inception of Chancecoin, and it is by no means a sign that we will make protocol-related changes in the future. Please let us know if you have genuine concerns with this change. If there's no strong dissent, we will implement this change a week from now.
I agree.
I agree too.
