2101  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-02-07]Google Was Asked to Ban Ads on Cryptocurrencies on: February 08, 2018, 01:45:04 AM
I think this is necessary. Most projects that have the resources to spend on this type of marketing are bad and unreliable projects. In general, they are copies of other more robust projects. They copy up to several parts of the whitepaper, as Tron did.

We need projects that work, that offer a good product and only then start investing in marketing. Some seem only to be ponzi and scans and this is very detrimental to Bitcoin.

2103  Economy / Speculation / Re: Dropping again like a stone on: February 07, 2018, 02:04:49 AM
The only way is up now. It will have some resistances and some supports. But the worst news that could happen, they all came together and even that did not end with Bitcoin. The breaking of the Tether, the banning of China, and SEC investigations. Even so, the lowest price is still higher than the November figures.
2104  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Which country is the best one for setting up mining farms? on: February 07, 2018, 01:14:31 AM
People who say that a particular country is cheaper, they should start putting the price of electricity in these countries. In Brazil there are many people talking about mining in Paraguay, including several reports on TV. But I think in fact what happens are great Ponzi schemes that simulate mining. The average temperature is a factor that influences a lot and I've seen several people commenting that it would be ideal to pay less than 4 cents on electricity. Paraguay costs between 8 cents to 12 cents of dollars, and the temperature is high also causing an extra cost. Venezuela, the cost is low, but political instability makes it impossible. I think the best countries could be those that have access to large sources of energy production such as large hydroelectric or cheap natural gas and low temperatures. Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Sweeden, Georgia
2105  Economy / Speculation / Re: My fear with cryptocurrencies on: February 07, 2018, 12:58:09 AM
I think this year we will have happy surprises. Cryptocurrency will not be used first for domestic transactions. In this they are still a long way from fiat and credit card options. But for international purchases will be quickly the best option. When the big global sellers start to accept them for wholesale and retail sales. And for this it is crucial that China does not ban completely. LN and other scalability solutions will be critical to the future of this economy.

It's horrible to have to ask permission to spend my money. And this is what happens when you have a bank account or a credit card. I do not want a third person to intrude and tell me how to spend my money
2106  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Tether - "safe harbor" on: February 07, 2018, 12:49:20 AM
I wanted to understand what would happen if Tether failed. The idea is that a Tether is worth the same as a dollar. If they found that tether does not have these dollars, the exchanges would have the option of offering the dollar equivalent, or they would risk going bankrupt. It is not the same as another crypto fail. People only use the USDT as the only option offered. I hope they find another more secure and stable currency to serve as a bank in exchange for the cryptocurrencys.
2107  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / The Ripple story (Another great cryptoasset analysis by bitmex) on: February 06, 2018, 09:30:38 PM

The Ripple story
FEBRUARY 6, 2018BITMEX RESEARCH
Abstract: In this piece, we briefly look over the history of Ripple and examine various disputes between the founders and partner companies, typically over control of XRP tokens. We then explore elements of the technology behind Ripple. We conclude that the apparent distributed consensus mechanism doesn’t serve a clear purpose, because the default behaviour of Rippled nodes effectively hands full control over updating the ledger to the Ripple.com server. Therefore, in our view, Ripple does not appear to share any interesting characteristics with crypto tokens like Bitcoin or Ethereum, at least from a technical perspective.

Conclusion

Much of this report has focused on disputes, primarily related to control over XRP, including accusations of theft. Perhaps such disputes are not particularly unique, especially given the rapid, unexpected growth in the value of the ecosystem. In fact, this story of the disputes might not be too dissimilar from that of some of the large tech giants mentioned in the introduction to this piece.

More significant than the disputes is the fact that the Ripple system appears for all practical purposes to be entirely centralised and is therefore perhaps devoid of any interesting technical characteristics — although this does not mean that Ripple or XRP is doomed to failure. The company has significant financial capital and has proven somewhat effective at marketing and forming business partnerships, and perhaps this could mean the company succeeds at building adoption of the XRP token either among businesses or consumers. If so, the points that Bitcoin critics often raise may be even more pertinent and relevant in the case of Ripple. These points include:

The lack of inflation is a naive economic policy.
The price of the token is too volatile and speculative.
Regulators will shut the system down if it becomes popular.
Perhaps most importantly, why not use the US dollar? Banks will build competing digital systems based on traditional currencies (if they don’t exist already).
The real mystery about Ripple is that, given the large market value of the system, why are all the Bitcoin critics so silent? Perhaps the answer to this question is just as applicable to some of Bitcoin’s proponents as it is to its critics. Most people seem to judge things on what they perceive as the culture and character of those involved, rather than on the technical fundamentals.
2108  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-02-06] Breaking News: China and Hong Kong to Hunt Down All Cryptocurrencie on: February 06, 2018, 09:24:16 PM
This news has more than 24 hours. I think spreading like it's happening now is FUD. The market is starting to react and rise. It was not this time that they managed to destroy Bitcoin.
2109  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: 3 highly promising ICO's I will be investing in this week on: February 06, 2018, 09:18:56 PM
I did not know this bankera project. The idea sounds interesting. We definitely need options that offer credit in this new era. The CRAFT project, which I use in my signature, offers some similar options and have an expectation of raising a little less. I found that Bankera's 200 million goal somewhat high. Even more during this market correction.

2110  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Yesterday India, today china, tomorrow USA on: February 06, 2018, 09:12:49 PM
Cryptocurrency is beginning to be an integral part of people's lives. More and more ordinary people are entering the market. In countries whose democracy is mature and the opinion of ordinary people is important, especially when near elections, prohibiting something in an authoritarian way is quite unlikely. Even in authoritarian China, this ban is taking a long time to complete, and perhaps it will fail. The authorities will be scared when they finally come across the power of something that is totally decentralized.
2111  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Sold my BTC during the dip (when it was less than $7k) on: February 06, 2018, 08:57:55 PM
The market is crazy, so I think the big opportunities are in other currencies. The point is to know the right time to buy and sell. But I do not believe that in the medium term betting against the BTC is the best option. There is a lot of news that will help BTC rise and return to having at least 50% of the market.
2112  Economy / Speculation / Re: Big whale liquidating his stash of bitcoins on: February 06, 2018, 04:00:50 PM
This is really interesting. But did he stop believing in Bitcoin, or did he avoid a greater loss knowing the repercussions of Tether? And for that reason you chose an exchange instead of an OTC operation. Did someone get some print screen out of the sales wall, if it formed any, it could mean that he wanted to contribute to a crash and eventually profit from it?
2113  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-02-06] The Dow Just Lost Even More Than Bitcoin. But ..... on: February 06, 2018, 03:47:20 PM
Everything is down, falling. Obviously, that will have repercussions in the cryptos. It was the biggest drop in 6 years, Asia and Europe also plummeted. There is a lot of volatility. This week will be very difficult as there is a lot of uncertainty. My crowd is for investors to find refuge in Crypto since with higher wages this could mean more people willing to invest.
2114  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Augur - a decentralized prediction market platform on: February 06, 2018, 05:24:05 AM
In what could be one of the year's most talked-about launches, a cryptocurrency project called Augur may soon invite its community to bet against its success.

Created by the Forecast Foundation in 2015, the crowdsourced prediction protocol raised $5.5 million by selling REP tokens long before the term initial coin offering (ICO) had taken hold. Now, after the release of a new version of its white paper, the system that would allow global users to bet on the outcomes of real-world events is getting close to a test launch.

But while Augur will allow people to bet on all sorts of events (from which team will win a specific sports game to whether the Dow Jones will break a certain price), the founders say users will have only one market to make when it goes live.

The Future Foundation's operations lead, Tom Kysar, told CoinDesk:

"Essentially, we are going to launch Augur with one market, and that market is: 'Will Augur be hacked?' or 'Will there be a critical vulnerability discovered in Augur' by a certain date?'"

If that seems risky, it is. But according to Kysar, it will be well worth it in the end.

In parallel with the bet, the Augur team will run a bug bounty, seeding the market with bets that the system won't be hacked. In this way, a confident hacker could then take the other side of those bets, and go to work trying to find flaws in the protocol to collect a big payday.

"From what we heard from our auditors, we'll probably be the largest and most complex application to be attempted to be deployed on ethereum," he said. "I think it's very naive to think we could launch 6,500 lines of Solidity code being bug-free."

In an effort to give outsiders plenty of time to find potential bugs, the team will be running the controlled launch for something like three months.

Augur is going through its second round of smart contract audits right now, and once complete, a live launch could be just months away, the team said.

Security model
As for what will be made available at the time, the platform is expected to finally permit real people to serve as "reporters" in the markets.

New markets need to designate a trusted reporter to determine how a bet resolves. Odds are, many of these will probably be bots of one kind or another, maintained by trusted developers (not unlike Polyswarm's approach to threat assessment).

Still, as outlined in the white paper, the system has two levels of dispute resolution in case participants disagree with an outcome.

At the most basic level, all Augur users are enlisted in resolving a disputed market. If a market dispute rises to the highest level, Augur forks into new "universes" for each outcome, and that's when a crowdsourcing procedure kicks in to determine the correct outcome.

An attacker could try to force an incorrect outcome through an attack, but the Forecast Foundation's models suggest this shouldn't be profitable.

In any case, whenever users participate in deciding how a market resolves, they will need to stake REP tokens to do so. Any time they stake on the correct outcome, they stand to earn a return.

"The system does also attempt to shift the value of REP upward, or downward, when needed by adjusting the fees that are given to reporters," Alex Chapman, Augur's lead contract engineer, explained. "While the cap of rep is below our target level, the fees will go up every week and vice versa."

Yet, as the team has been working on the project, they've realized there are limits to how far a project should go on distributing all work. Early on, the team wanted to have every market decide by participant votes. While that's still the backup plan for markets with disagreements, the team has come around to the idea that rewarding centralized decision making turns out to be more efficient.

Kysar said:

"Distributed reporting is really a worst-case scenario."

2115  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: What are you doing during this dip? on: February 06, 2018, 05:07:31 AM
Everything is down. Stocks, bonds etc. If you sell it, it is better to use the money to buy something to spend. But you will not find shelter in any other place where your money can yield more than crypto. The fear of losing is what drives the investments to rise so fast.
2116  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: 🔥🔥🔥Crypto Market Dashboard🔥🔥🔥 on: February 06, 2018, 04:49:10 AM
I really liked it, congratulations.

I think it would be interesting to be able to leave the option of showing only coins above a certain value of marketingcap. Show all is very difficult to follow since the smaller marketcap has a much larger variance.
2117  Economy / Speculation / How much does today's drop have to do with DownJones' downfall? on: February 06, 2018, 04:30:22 AM
  1000 points down.

All other markets have fallen sharply today. And some are opening up with difficulties. It seems that it will be a very difficult week and with possible new historical falls.

Is this bad for Bitcoin? Would not it be possible to use Bitcoin to escape this bad mood in the fiat markets?

Dow plunges 1,175 points in wild trading session, S&P 500 goes negative for 2018
This is a normal, bull market correction: Strategist

U.S. stocks fell sharply Monday, extending a steep sell-off from the previous session, as investors rushed for the exits in the wake of rising interest rates. For the S&P 500, it was the worst day in six years.

The Dow Jones industrial average shed 1,175.21 points to 24,345.75 and briefly declined more than 1,500 points. The 30-stock index also briefly traded flat earlier in the session, before the selling returned. Overall, the Dow traveled more than 5,100 points during the session.

The Dow also broke below 25,000 and erased its 2018 gains. It also dipped into correction territory
2118  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Bitcoin Legal Status in India Explained! on: February 06, 2018, 04:24:28 AM
India's approach is somewhat different from what has happened in other countries. They did not come knocking down doors and banning exchanges, or accusing of crimes. It seems that the government is still trying to understand what Bitcoin is. I think it will take a long time for a definitive definition. But total prohibition is practically discarded today.
2119  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Will Cardano Outperform Bitcoin in 2018? on: February 06, 2018, 04:20:45 AM
No, no chances. I believe in the ADA. It is a solid project, built by very capable people and with a clear roadmap. If you read this roadmap, you'll see that big changes and big projects will only be ready by the end of 2019, perhaps early 2020. By then it will be in the top 10. But it will not be one of the top three.

2120  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Good news (I think) BITTREX to add USD US$ pairing... on: February 06, 2018, 04:17:08 AM
This is important. But not very practical. I believe that some other stable currency will eventually replace USDT. Using only USD has several legal implications that make the work of exchanges much more complicated.
