2101  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcointalk strategies on: May 14, 2015, 11:35:49 PM
I wasn't aware there was a strategy necessary for posting on this forum.  I post to help people, to communicate with others who are involved in this world of crypto, and to learn from others.

Strategy isn't even part of the equation.
2102  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Error code when trying to spend MultiSig from Bitcoin QT on: May 14, 2015, 11:28:59 PM
If you're creating the raw transaction and don't provide a change address, doesn't that mean you just spent the change in miner fees?  In other words, if you have two input transactions of 1BTC each, and the amount you're spending is 1.01BTC, without a change address, 0.99BTC becomes transaction fee.

That is correct.
Thanks for the confirmation.  When I read that OP "fixed" the problem by just removing the change address I was like, "who messes around with multi-sig stuff and raw transactions without even understanding the basics?"
2103  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer s4 110v or 220v? on: May 14, 2015, 11:25:05 PM
Hi, i am new minning with my antminer s4 and i'd like to know if i could use 220v insted of 110, i do nit want to burn my power supply. Is tha posible?
Yes, it's quite possible.  The PSU will happily take the 220v power.

F2Pool Turns Two

And we are introducing Namecoin, Ixcoin and I0coin to our Bitcoin miners today. If you fill the payout address, you can receive 2 NMC + 1 IXC + 1 I0C + 5 HUC in additional to each bitcoin mined. Please do not confuse I0C and IOC, which is another coin. Thanks.
You realize that I0C and IXC are dead, right?  The last coin-generating blocks were mined last year.  You're just mining transaction fees at this point.  Not that this is a bad thing, but there are no more coins rewarded for finding blocks.

It's an interesting point of view: a coin is dead once the minting is over. If this would be true, iXcoin should be dead by now (since oct 13th 2014). Anyway, iXcoin's hashpower doesn't say so.
In any case, if that was true, bitcoin would lose its value in about 20 years or, at this rate, even long before.
iXcoin's survival, despite its insignificant value compared to bitcoin's, measures the possible reactions of the market once the minting of a coin is over.
Perhaps I should have been clearer in my statement.  My point of view is not that a coin is dead once minting is done.  A coin is dead when minting is done and the fees miners get from transactions do not incentivize them to continue mining the coin.  These coins, along with all the other coins that implement the aux-pow circumvent that by piggybacking on Bitcoin.  Nobody would be mining either of them if it weren't for the fact that Bitcoin miners do it for free.  The downside of getting Bitcoin miners to do the work is that your coin's difficulty skyrockets disproportionately.

If Bitcoin follows suit, in that transaction fees do not incentivize miners to continue to mine, then it - along with all of these coins that ride on the aux-pow method - will die.
2105  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Transaction fees on: May 14, 2015, 08:52:35 PM
Yep, figured that out. WHO adds? blockchain or pool operator
Neither.  People who send transactions add a fee when they send that transaction.  When a block is found all transaction fees are added and included with the block reward.  Not all pools distribute those fees back to miners.  Some keep them.
2106  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: BITMAIN announces Antpool on: May 14, 2015, 03:17:00 PM
I can't get into www.antpool.com or www.bitmaintech.com or any domain associated
I get the message "This webpage is not available. ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT"
Im in Argentina.
Well... is it being blocked at your ISP?  Maybe your DNS can't resolve the name?  Try pinging 119.9.104.217 to see if you get a response.
2107  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Is hashnest profitable ? on: May 14, 2015, 02:46:24 PM
Hello,
I would like to know if it's profitable to buy a S5 miner on hashnest and let it mine there.
My plan is probably to mine to Nicehash, which seems to pay enough to cover electricity fees and give a bit profit.
But would it be really profitable ?
If not, is there a pool where it could be profitable ?

Regards
If you buy an S5 on HashNest, aren't you limited to it only mining on AntPool?
2108  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: BITMAIN announces Antpool on: May 14, 2015, 02:45:12 PM
Im the only one who cant enter antpool website? I keep getting the message "connection timed out"

2 days with this problem.

Maybe you can set your browser to wait more longer time before announce timeout.

Tryed with different browsers, different networks and differents computers. Sure anybody else is having issues with antpool and bitmain domains?
Not having any problem from my end... I can log into the pool just fine.  What the the URL you're trying to connect to, and where is it timing out?  For example, you simply don't get to www.antpool.com, or you get there, but login through passport.bitmain.com times out?
2109  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Difference between physical meetups and online exchanges on: May 14, 2015, 02:36:41 PM
What are the pros and cons of buying bitcoins in person in a physical meet up as opposed to using an exchange.
You get to actually physically meet somebody who's interested in Bitcoin?  Maybe you sit down with them and have a coffee... discuss your experiences with BTC... share stories... maybe you negotiate a different price with them... heck, maybe your local seller is the man/woman of your dreams and when you two meet up sparks fly.

You gonna find the love of your life by posting an order on an exchange? Tongue

2111  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Wondering out loud: how do most of the miners use their mined Bitcoin on: May 14, 2015, 02:15:17 PM
Do you purchase goods ?
Yes, I purchase goods and services with BTC.  Mining hardware, cloud contracts, rental gear, gift cards, etc

Do you keep the Bitcoin in a wallet, in hopes it will appreciate in value someday ?
Absolutely.  Just like I keep cash in savings accounts, mutual funds, stocks, etc.

Do you immidiately trade it for fiat to cover costs, and use up the remainder ?
This is one thing I typically do not do.  I guess maybe indirectly I do, since I use the BTC as explained above in purchasing goods/services.

Do you keep the BTC and use it to daytrade in the Exchanges ?
Rarely do I play around on the exchanges.  I do it from time to time, but I'm not too experienced in trading, so I usually don't do so well Smiley

P.S - side question :  Do you refer to Bitcoin as a plural form or do you prefer "Bitcoins" as the plural form ?  just wondering if there's a strong inclination one way or the other
I suppose it could go either way, and I've probably used both forms in written and verbal communication.  I think I typically stick to "bitcoin" for both the singular and the plural, but I can certainly see both uses.
2112  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [Official] Mintsy.co Thread **SHA contracts 150% more hash same price!!! RETRO** on: May 14, 2015, 02:00:13 PM
2. The current system is unfair to rig owners. There's no way to communicate with the renter, and in multiple instances, we've had a renter pick a bad pool. Then we get dinged with the fee, and the lost mining time. Per Mintsy policy, the decision to refund is based 100% on hash rate. In a system where owner and renter can communicate, we can provide support to ensure the renter is mining.
I like the way MRR handles this scenario.  If the renter's pool goes offline, or fails, and the renter doesn't have a backup, MRR effectively looks dead to your gear.  Your gear then fails over to whatever pools you've setup as backups so you as the rig owner don't lose any time.

For example, I've got my rigs setup like this:

pool 1 - stratum+tcp://us-east01.miningrigrentals.com:3333#xnsub
pool 2 - stratum+tcp://us-central01.miningrigrentals.com:3333#xnsub
pool 3 - stratum+tcp://104.131.12.128:9332

So, if a renter screws up, my gear fails over to my p2pool node.

@BitJohn, setting up something similar on Mintsy would be extremely useful, and alleviate the problem reported by ThePhwner.

2114  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 0 electricity and ISP costs, large facility paid for. Is mining still lucrative? on: May 14, 2015, 03:14:46 AM
One thing you will want to make sure of is starting slow.  Data centers do keep servers cool.

But there is a BIG difference in server and asic gear.   So if you do have a data center add gear to it slowly or you might find out you cannot take the heat.
Great point.  I neglected to mention cooling in my post.  Bad things can happen when you don't take care of the necessities...

2115  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Skills to create a new coin on: May 14, 2015, 02:38:04 AM
1. get source code
2. do a find and replace (bitcoin > newcoin)
3. compile! You are now the creator of newcoin.

 Cheesy
Stop... you'll encourage them.

At least tell them to change the block time, or reward, too... Tongue
2116  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 0 electricity and ISP costs, large facility paid for. Is mining still lucrative? on: May 14, 2015, 02:30:21 AM
I suggest locking thread.  Its down at bottom left I believe.

You already have a topic about this here - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1059891.msg11368971#msg11368971
Well, ck locked down that one and tossed it, so OP is left with this one now.

I have access to a large facility and a constant supply of electricity for essentially free.

power consumption is not an object.

I have contemplated establishing a BTC mining center.

I have a good understanding of BTC and crypto, but I want some input on expected hardware needs/costs and realistic profitability and at what scale.

If you can assist me with this information Id thank you VERY MUCH  Smiley Smiley

non US operation

So...

You've got free power and no costs whatsoever besides hardware.  Are you in a datacenter setup with cabinets and rack mounts, or are you more free-for-all with whatever you decide to do?

If in a more professional datacenter setup, I'd suggest the SPXX gear (Spondoolies SP10, SP30, SP31, SP35).  The BitmainTech gear would also fit the bill, but you're going to face some trouble with both the hardware itself (PSUs, dead boards, overall build quality) and the software (firmware is flaky, doesn't work with all pools).  That being written, I had good luck with the later batch S2s.  Also, there's the ancient CoinTerra stuff.

If it's a looser setup, then you can always get some S3s, S5s, SP20s, Tubes.  All of them require at least an external PSU... some also require a computer running the software (a Raspberry Pi works here).  This approach is a bit more geared towards the "home" type miner, but can certainly be fit into a professional farming setup.

My advice would be to get some standard datacenter racks, some good PDUs, some network switches, a couple machines to proxy things, a bunch of network cabling, and the rack-style datacenter hardware I suggested above.

Get as much gear as you can.  If you can afford it, try to get at least 1PH/s of gear and run your own private pool.  Then, rent out that gear on places like MRR, NiceHash, Mintsy.  Mine your own pool primarily and fall back on the rental sites when the price is right.

You can thank me "VERY MUCH" with BTC.  You can find my donation address in my profile (hint, click on my user name.  The address starts with 1DevLdog...)
2117  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Noob here, allow me to display my ignorance on: May 13, 2015, 05:57:28 PM
Ok, so that's how that works, makes sense.  Any suggestions?
All kinds of choices... depends on what you want.  I rent my gear out on MRR, so that's my primary pool.  I fall back onto my p2pool node in case MRR can't be reached, or in the case where the renter screws up and his pool goes offline.

I've mined at Eligius, BTC Guild, Slush, kano.is, solo.ckpool, mintsy, GHash.io, nastyfans, and more.  Like I wrote... a lot of choices out there for you.  Everybody's got their own opinions, and eventually you'll form your own about where you like to mine Smiley.

Apparently moving that diff number up to 1024 cut my performance from about 1.2TH to 100GH according to the pools status page, even though my device still showed running about 1.3.  I moved it back down to 16 where it was originally and my numbers are coming back up where they should be.  So, that begs the question, if I drop it to 4 will I get even better hash rates in the pool itself??  Hummm....
Can't help you there... I don't own that miner, nor have I ever played around with one.  Sorry.

goal is to not over pay which means using about 0.0095 to 0.0101per th

philipma1957, just a thought: you should align your plans with altcoins launch ... if there are some sha256-based altcoin scheduled to be launched over the weekend the price will probably go higher...
Great point.  Then again, if the order is set for the max of 0.0101 and the price goes beyond that, wouldn't the order just sit unfulfilled until the prices dropped back down?

By the way... is that a hint that some SHA-256 alt coin is launching this weekend? Tongue
2119  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [∞ YH] solo.ckpool.org 0.5% fee anonymous solo bitcoin mining! 45 blocks solved! on: May 13, 2015, 03:45:41 PM

This user found block in 25 April then best share was reset , Until now his bestshare and my bestshare stuck (19 days same best share)
while i spent about 11 btc on this block

https://solo.nicehash.com/bitcoin/user/13vTagC3h6F7crUdtaZURxcWmkEexJb27i.htm#tabcontent_month
You'll have to take that up with NH support.  I don't know how they coded the display of best share... looks like they just report the best share ever found since that worker started.  Here on ck solo pool, the best share value is reset every time a block is found.
2120  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Skills to create a new coin on: May 13, 2015, 03:27:49 PM
Skill? You don't need skill. You just go to http://build-a-co.in/, download the generated code, compile it and run it.

that's cool, i was still in th era where you need to pay someone or deposit something to make one, but i can't spot the algo between all those parameters..

is that for sha256 only?
It's scrypt.  The project is based on LiteCoin... so you're just creating another scrypt clone.
