This just in... newly leaked documents reveal the NSA collects hundreds of millions of text messages a day....THAT'S PER DAY!I see a definite benefit of Nxt AM Edit: http://rt.com/usa/nsa-collects-sms-messages-731/According to leaked files obtained by the British media, the NSA has been collecting nearly 200 million text messages from the world’s cellphones every single day, occasionally using those records to further extract sensitive information such as location data, address book contacts and even financial details

This is my entry for the AM contest: Project Wake-Up Call :-) The idea is, that sooner or later account holders will use software (clients, BC Explorer, etc.) that will show the plain text messages received on their account. Thus, I sent out plain text messages to all accounts with more than 50.000 NXT in it that have no public key (204 accounts in total). The message says: The link in the message goes to http://nxtsolaris.wordpress.com/nxt-no-public-key-landing-page/ which gives a short explanation on how to secure an account by doing an outgoing transaction. The main goal of this little project was to find bugs in my clients (I think the only way I can win a prize in the AM contest with this is, if only two other people take part... ;-) ) I found three bugs with this project in my client and one of them was that I didn't correctly add public keys created through forging in my account list. So, 60 of the 204 account I sent a message to, actually have a public key in the blockchain and got a false warning message. I'll send out a second "go-to-sleep-again" message to these 60 later today. what was the total messaging fee ....1 nxt per msg sent? or did you send in bulk?....just curious

A marketing Committee1) I propose Salsacz, Pin, Utopianfuture, Opticarrier & Klee form the marketing committee
Consider uniqueorn for this list. He isn't here a lot but is at the other forum and has put in a lot of time. Salsacz (campaigns, viral marketing, media, people, universities... "organizing" all what is in Media topic) - Bitcointalk, all other forums NiftyNikel (people) - nextcoin Uniqueorn (people) - nextcoin Utopianfuture (articles, people, science world) - Bitcointalk opticalcarrier (scienceworld?) ? Joefox (texts) - wiki, Bitcointalk ? Anon136 (science world) ? Klee (belongs to the dev commitee) Pinarello (communication with Nxt users) - forums.nxtcrypto, Bitcointalk (declined, but still has "communication with Nxt users" topic) yes...these additional three would be good.....Klee & Anon136 have solid reputations built on responsibly handling large amounts of funds. Edit: Joefox...is also a smart marketer.

We need to spend all 9Mil on development, we build something so good that people will spread the word organically.
+1000 this 3 million is being put away for that. In the case of the 7 million for Marketing I meant general push for Nxt to gain mass adoption....all sub-features, client, services, website, asset exchange etc etc....fall under this area. MARKETING & PROMOTION ARE TWO DIFFERENT THINGS....as one is a subset of the other....I've been doing marketing/business development for a long time....

Been away for a while and just spent some time reading the thread again.
On marketing.
Definition: what are we talking about when talking about marketing?
It seems we have two objects are being discussed and confused: Nxt (system/framework) and applications of Nxt.
Both need a different approach. When confused, we get the non/mis-communication in the team.
My idea would be to do what we can now, which is two things at least:
- Market Nxt as the system. Target group at first would be people who are interested in new cryptos, and pushing the message that it's a system, not a coin. We get people to join in on that basis and make it appealing to be part of a new movement in cryptocurrency. Client development is in this group at first. The client is a must have condition for any mainstream marketing anyway.
- make a list of coming applications. We know what is coming and we know what people are working on (apps, messaging, torrenting programs etc etc etc.)
These applications cán be treated as products, whereas Nxt itself can't. It's hard to sell "the internet" for instance. It's "easy" to sell uses of the internet.
- We choose the applications that we think will get most attention. This will take analysis, but also a good working knowledge of what is coming. We focus on maximum of 3 things to push as hard as we can with all marketing tools available. We have people who can coordinate this and we create teams on a volunteer basis. Maybe we can offer perks to the team. Volunteers should be treasured.
This seems to give a framework where we can distinguish whát we are marketing and avoid confusion between Nxt (system) and the applications.
Makes sense?
Edit: a given here is that the applications are aimed at mainstream, so devs need to aim for userfriendliness and the products need to look good.
Perfect...i agree with this logic.

I think in the time being you should organize the marketing committee...maybe it could be a separate branch in your Foundation model. ALL FORMS OF HUMAN SOCIAL ORGANIZATION HAVE WEAKNESSES....even decentralization.

A marketing Committee1) I propose Salsacz, Pin, Utopianfuture, Opticarrier & Klee form the marketing committee
2) Marketing budget 7 millions Nxt
3) This should not be put to a vote
4) Marketing committee membership & funding should NOT BE PUT TO A VOTE (I have noticed that many accounts are using VOTING as a tactic to slow down our progress)
ALL THE ABOVE HAVE PROVEN THEMSELVES AS RESPONSIBLE MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY & SALSACZ IS A MARKETING WONDER.
I second Salsacz's nomination. I am sure we will get amazing return on whatever marketing budget is allocated. Since community has to approve, I fear some sort of vote is required, especially as to the amount, unless CfB can convince BCNext to just allocate the millions of NXT that are needed. James NO VOTING....Utopianfuture will organize everyone.....they will create the marketing account...funds will be transfered there for everyone to see. ALL SIX will decide how to spend the money

How many store the message securely in a network which is a permanent recoverable record (if you have the keys) of the messages.
secure and permanent message could be the selling point. edit: lol This a storage function not a communication function. the internet is BOTH STORAGE & COMMUNICATION FUNCTION. How can you sell your product if you don't even know its main functionality ? Don't compare Internet with NXT app, it is borderline stupid. I was not......I think you should take a breather Then don't bring Internet into a conversation about NXT applications. Sorry if you feel i am rude. I am going to go for a breakfast it was just an analogy....enjoy breakfast...i can't leave home without it.

A good thing with AM would be TTL (time to live) option with some max value.
good idea +1 This should be implemented

I have looked into this....there are many but on desktops/browers.....there is really not a leading smartphone app yet............ESPECIALLY ON IPHONE....many IPHONE owners feel a little insecure with the current security situation.
Well, it should be all but free if you want to address mass market. Secure is our best selling point....if someone doesn;t want security they will never use our app.

Illegal content.....that is a problem whether the fee is 1nxt or 10 nxt
True, but the magnitude of the problem may differ. We shouldn't just ignore it and hope it goes away. That's what I am talking about. If there is no solution, all these apps and promotions is a waste of time. should we shut down the internet too With current blockchain and network capacity then yes spamming is a huge issue. But I doubt lowering fee will cause it unless someone plan to attack the network. I send my messages free via whatsapp, skype, yahoo mess, snap chat and a bunch of other apps. You can't compete by lowering the price with NXT messenger. It has to be a special type of message in the blockchain. When the novelty wears off, no one is going to pay a dime to send a conversational message via NXT. But people will pay to send a secure message via NXT so why aim it at mass conversational messaging, if NXT messages are confidential and secure then this is a differentiator that means you can charge more and the volume will be lower. There are many secure messenger apps out there. Go check them first. I have to tell you that if you want to compete in this sector, you are in a very tough sport. A lot of smart guys are doing these secure messaging. I have looked into this....there are many but on desktops/ web browsers.....there is really not a leading smartphone app yet............ESPECIALLY ON IPHONE....many IPHONE owners feel a little insecure with the current security situation.

Secure communications seems like a good selling point....as non of the above APP's do that. NOTE: This is an already released feature the genie is out of the bottle.....i;m just arguing to lower the msg fee....thats all. EDIT: That would be foolish to suggest Nxt could compete with whatsapp....but there are a lot of people in this world who would use Nxt for secure communications.

we have discussed this issue on previous on occasions...and i'm sure it will be solved but it's the same problem the internet has....i'm not smart enough to suggest any solutions for this one.
It's a different problem. With the general Internet, when illegal content springs up it can generally be dealt with (speed & mechanisms dependent on the type of content), and the rest of the Internet chugs along just fine. Systems that try to combat that (tor etc) do so with sophisticated techniques, and it's a cat & mouse game against the authorities. Fact is, we are hosting a blockchain that allows arbitrary data to be stored in it, with no mechanism to remove it, and hoping that people won't take advantage of that in a way that harms us. Is that wise? so what do you suggest we do to fix this problem.
