A marketing Committee

1) I propose Salsacz, Pin, Utopianfuture, Opticarrier & Klee form the marketing committee

2) Marketing budget 7 millions Nxt

3) This should not be put to a vote

4) Marketing committee membership & funding should NOT BE PUT TO A VOTE (I have noticed that many accounts are using VOTING as a tactic to slow down our progress)

ALL THE ABOVE HAVE PROVEN THEMSELVES AS RESPONSIBLE MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY & SALSACZ IS A MARKETING WONDER.

I second Salsacz's nomination. I am sure we will get amazing return on whatever marketing budget is allocated. Since community has to approve, I fear some sort of vote is required, especially as to the amount, unless CfB can convince BCNext to just allocate the millions of NXT that are needed.

James

I also agree to all the others, but I feel it is important that there should be a primary decision maker who is more equal than the rest. Can't write code by committee, also can't market properly by committee either.

Is anyone else worried about Nxt's infatuation with voting?

I like voting in general but it isn't always the right way to make decisions.  Sometimes a project needs to be organized around a visionary person, especially in its early stages.  Different people will have different and excellent ideas for moving a project forward, but if you mix them all together by way of a voting system, there is no clear vision and focus for the project.

Take development of the Linux kernel for example.  Linus Torvalds is in charge, there is no voting, and the project is thriving.  Bram Cohen was in charge of the bittorrent protocol and that didn't hurt its decentralizedness.  Which successful software projects put everything to a vote?

If we aren't careful, Nxt will serve as an example of decentralization taken too far, and how not to organize a project.

Here's another short and pertinent post on the subject:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=380441.msg4471328#msg4471328

Voting is for getting a range of opinions. The result is a suggestion, what COULD be done. Not what will be done no matter what...

What about Anon136?

I'd add NiftyNikel in that mix (nextcoin.org). Not only does he control the swarms (gaining volunteers and deploying initiatives), he's been pushing the exchanges and headed to Miami BTC (business cards and pins in hand) to push NXT.

https://nextcoin.org/index.php/topic,1718.0.html
https://nextcoin.org/index.php/topic,17.0.html

He also lead the development of the press release and was behind the NXT feature that should be posted any day from a well known crypto news site.

NO VOTING....Utopianfuture will organize everyone.....they will create the marketing account...funds will be transfered there for everyone to see.

ALL SIX will decide how to spend the money

Nextcoinbox script now automatically downloads the latest client available.
This can be used to updated your client too (under linux, possibly Mac but not tested).
Check the script at https://raw.github.com/nextcoinbox/nextcoinbox/gh-pages/scripts/nextcoinbox-live.sh and the project's page at http://nextcoinbox.github.io/nextcoinbox/

Since we are getting ~200 new accounts per day down from ~500 accounts per day, NXT is clearly in a crowded and competitive market. That being said, advertising works. With the right type of pay for performance advertising to supplement PR campaign, I can see us getting 2,000+ new accts every day.

That would be 2 months to 100,000 users and over 500,000 users by year end.

We do need to wait until NXT clients are solid before such a big push, but as soon as it is, I would like to be able to push the big red launch advertising button and boost NXT converts tenfold. Is this wrong of me? Somehow impure? Sorry, just trying to ensure NXT success.

NXT is competing with all other forms of crypto and even fiats to some extent. That is definitely a very crowded market. We need marketing AND advertising. Not TV advertising, just website affiliate program

Why does nobody own it? Somebody had to create it?

Apparently who made that transaction to account "100000" is 12968364353024827435 which seems to be "Aysyr": https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=86187

I think in the time being you should organize the marketing committee...maybe it could be a separate branch in your Foundation model.

In my experience, whenever there is a crowded market, marketing and advertising is required to achieve top positions. How many alternatives are there to NXT? I am talking about from a non-technical end user's standpoint. As far as they are concerned, NXT is one of 100+ altcoins. With the strong bias against proof of stake coins, do you really think that NXT will achieve its full potential without marketing or advertising?

If Nxt can't be successful without paid marketing and advertising, then it can't be successful.

Quote
Please name me a single product in a crowded market that rose above all the others without marketing and sales.
Ripple is getting placements in top rated TV shows. Apple got placements in dozens of movies. I am not talking about any "shove", just a way to get on thousands of websites and getting value for money spent.

You're using the wrong model to look at this.  Nxt isn't a product or a service.  The Ripple example you brought up is perfect.  What has the TV spot done for them:

http://coinmarketcap.com/xrp_30.html

Quote
What is wrong about speeding that up? The first proof of stake coin that gets to 100,000 users and 10,000 websites will benefit from the network effect and nothing else would ever be able to catch up.

Nothing is wrong with that and nothing is wrong with online advertising, but it won't be effective in this case.

Specifically, what type of advertising and marketing are you planning?
