21861  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Is this PSU (EVGA 750w BQ) enough to deal with my 3 gpus? on: December 22, 2017, 12:10:48 PM
Hey there everyone

Recently I bought a EVGA 750BQ  (https://www.evga.com/products/product.aspx?pn=110-BQ-0750-V1), with the idea of powering 3 gtx 970 g1 gaming which is an specific 970 model that uses 2 power connectors (one 8 pin and one 6 pin) instead of one. When we talk about power, I am totally sure that 750w is enough to feed them, but I am really worried about the power connectors.

The problem is that I just noticed this psu has 3 PCIE cables and 5 molex.  I was planning to connect each gpu 8 pin connector to one of these 3 PCIE cables, and I was planning to use  2 to 6 pin molex adapters to feed the 6 pin gpu connectors. Since the motherboard I bought has one extra molex connection I believe I would be able to solve the gpus power connectors problem, but  is this safe? In this example I would have to power all my riser slots using the infamous SATA to molex adapter that comes with it.

By the way I cannot plug the PSU in the 970s  and test it by myself because the motherboard for this system will probably be delivered where I live only after Christmas.

I really need some help here, because in case I find out that the PSU I bought isnt going to work I need to return it to the seller as soon as possible and buy one that actually works

return the psu today

I hope my transfers go through, I'm delaying the mining equipment purchases and going to dump it all on BtC if it hits 11k

I have all my money in money and in gear.

I have under 5k in coins

NOT going to buy any more boards at the moment.

I did find a good deal on corsair website.

21866  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Fire Risk in Mining Rigs? on: December 21, 2017, 04:46:25 PM
If you mount  mobo on wood   a cheap  product  like this provides a lot of protection

https://www.amazon.com/Tonyko%C2%AE-Fiberglass-Fire-Blanket-39-inch/dp/B01N1F737R/ref=sr_1_3?

this is 6 foot 6 inches   by 6 foot 6 inches

you can do a lot of mobos on top of wood with it

and a lot of risers on top of wood with it.

well worth the money  to buy 2 of them
21867  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Nicehash site is up... on: December 21, 2017, 04:03:10 PM
Well, none of the mining servers are accepting connections at the moment, so ethics aside you can't mine anyway...

I am selling hash as I type

https://www.nicehash.com/miner/1JdC6Xg3ajT3rge3FgPNSYYFpmf53Vbtje

I use nicehash  as part of my business model

I mine to various  btc addresses from multiple locations

Each location  has a different  btc address.

If you mine from one location  just for yourself  you do not need nicehash.
21868  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Sixth alt coin thread I forgot to mod last thread. on: December 21, 2017, 02:13:13 PM
Nicehieeeeesh (those who've watched their video will get it) is back up and paying quite a big premium for Cryptonight currently (if whattomine is to be believed).

Wonder if I should point my AMD hash to their servers for a while.

Also, do I have to mine there using a brand new BTC address?

I am still unable to login, all is stuck at the point "need to change you password, check your mail"
As far as I get your external wallet do not need to be changed. You internal (nicehash) wallet must be changed, as the old one holds "old coins" that may be reimbursed only in February or later.
I never had an "internal" Nicehash wallet... Only used to mine directly to my own BTC wallet address.
I suppose I could then just re-use the same then.

that is what I do
here is one account with them

21869  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Sixth alt coin thread I forgot to mod last thread. on: December 21, 2017, 10:55:50 AM
Vosk's new video on the D8P board was nice to see.   Seems pretty seemless to run 8 GPU, and I can only imagine doing risers for the extra 4 GPU to see if there are any quirks there.  But I am super stoked i jumped on the first batch.  first time for being a "first timer" lol;  I normally test the waters first.

I Hope to finally get my board up online soon so I can have everything at home consolidated into one machine outside finally.   Depending on how well it works, I may recommend them to friends to build using them and the frame that could be bought here on BCT in the future.

Phil;  Ive been meaning to get back to you about the cpu... i'm going to wait for the market to settle a little then resend the pm with confirmation before I shoot =)

No worries I have one for you

and I went back to nicehash on 2 of 3 accounts

21870  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Sixth alt coin thread I forgot to mod last thread. on: December 21, 2017, 06:37:42 AM
How do you like the Colorful vs the Onda?  Those are nice pictures, I've had a hard time finding pictures of either board with the right angle and clarity to see how much space is between the GPUs. It looks like with the right kind of airflow either board would work for 8 GPUs (at least the less power/heat hungry ones).

Colorful pros:
  • Can use server PSU as all it needs is 8x 6-pin PCIe power
  • Fan power headers in the perfect place

Colorful cons:
  • Slot spacing very tight
  • Custom 4-pin to 4-pin CPU power cable
  • Expensive DDR4 SODIMM ram

Onda pros:
  • Slot spacing is perfect

Onda cons:
  • Slot0 won't take a full length card
  • Molex and Sata power connectors
  • ATX power connector
  • Fan headers not accessible with GPUs installed
  • Expensive DDR4 SODIMM

The Onda V2.0 takes care of just about all the cons with V1.0.  About the only con left is that you need a PICO if you want to use a server PSU since it retains the ATX power connector.

Let me add some little Comments for Colorful vs the Onda 2.0,

Colorful Pro
Colorful have special cable to power SATA HD from the board (supplier sent both CPU and Sata cables)
Colorful have 4 Fan ports
Colorful Posted from first boot and ran 8 GPUs without touching the Bios.

Colorful Cons
Colorful only has two USB rear ports which is pain in initial quick  setup

Onda Cons
Onda was pain for me for first boot , only booted on built in GPU with no GPUs plugged until bios settings changed
Onda has only 2 Fan hearers

I have both. If  the colorful said colorful and not k17 a knockoff.i would have ordered more.

My k17 uses a 2400 watt delta. Nice.
It is spaced tight . Since I run eight cards 7 1070tis and 1  1070

All are hybrids overheating is Not an issue..

Once I push this board to 1100 watts it smells.

I suspect there is a limit in the traces of the pcb.

I use the pass through this means all 1100 watts passes in the pcb.

I could use the server and bypass the pcb pass through .  In theory this would limit the pcb to 8 x 75 = 450 watts.

I did play with the board and get 2 x 1080 tis power directly from the psu and 6 1070 tis powered with the pass through I pushed this to 2x200 + 6 x 125 = 1150 watts

Since the 1080tis did not use the pass through in this setup the board did not smell.

I think I can do 4 1080tis and 4 1070 tis using  4x200=800 and 4x125=500. That would be 1300 watts

Most of that would come directly from the psu.

In a perfect world I would use this board if it said colorful and not k17 knockoff.

In stead I stuck with the onda as I feel it can run 7 cards easy.

Those 3000 rpm fans Phil recommended finally came in.  I swapped out the ~1,600 rpm Thermaltake fans and it made all the difference.  Temps are now between 55 and 65 with the GPU fans staying at 50%.

Here are a couple of shots of the fully loaded Coloful rig:

[

Also got all but 1 card in for the Onda rig.  I'm staggering Zotac 1070Ti Minis with 1070TI AMP!.

This rig is running Delta fans with about the same specs at the fans Phil recommended (but more expensive).  Hope to have the 4th AMP! by Friday, but Christmas mail mayhem might delay it.

It looks like with the right kind of airflow either board would work for 8 GPUs (at least the less power/heat hungry ones).

both are good and neither one likes all 1080ti's

but  3x 1080 ti's and 4x 1070tis  on my colorful  doing 3x690 and 4x475  is 3970 sols at 1050 watts at the kwatt meter.

using all hybrids  with a celeron 3930 and 4gb ram

Huy guys !

3 quick questions for all you master of GPU mining.

1- I got some GTX 1070 on the way, i will be mining Zcash and other coin. What's the avg best Mod for those kind of cards ?

2- I have a rig on Win 10 using the august blockchain driver, works fine with the 4xx series but for the 5xx serie the voltage mod doesn't work and i'm pumping way too much watt for nothing. I red about installing Afterburner version whatever Beta 16 to manually set the voltage but I would prefer to use another driver that will take the Claymore command.
Any of you use another driver for your RX580 ?

3- I will be using Simple mining for my next farm. Does Simple mining have the issue that I have with win 10 ? (Guess not but who knows Tongue)

Thanks guys

Herb

No mods on the nvidia cards.

If you use simplemining

Try:
. Core +120
Mem   + 550
Watts. 105

Thanks !

Do i need to lower the power also ? TDP something like it ?

On tdp. Watts of 105 is about 70 %

Simple mining uses watts for tdp

The numbers I give

Core 120.
Mem. 550
Watts 105

Are starting points for 1070

And set min fans to 50
With temps at 70

I'm looking to pickup a number of GPUs for a project I'm working on. If you are interested in selling any of the equipment in my list, please let me know. Serious offers only.

I have a 1070 with paper work from Best Buy

It was 428 with the tax. On oct 30th

It is still 400 plus tax and shipping

I would trade it for some moonlander 2 sticks

I made an offer on pm

Best one I found for a fair price. And supports the right amount of power per port
Not sure why you compare a PC to a usb hub, sure you could get a cheap PC for the price of a usb hub, but you are still left with about 2-3 USB ports and if you plan on running 3 miners on a PC you most likely won’t be able to fit them side-by-side or have enough power to keep three running on a cheap PC.

How many are going to actually fit? 6?
I've been using a $40 Anker hub that ran 2 sticks at 954mhz flawlessly, but is limited to 900mhz with 3 on it. Expecting a second one today to get my other 3 sticks going. OK, not as clean as one unit, but significant cost difference, plus I've not seen anyone say how many sticks they can run on that hub you linked to and at what speed. If the ports are actually limited to 2.1A that may not be enough to crank the speed up.

if you pull the fans  that hub will fit 10.

the  stock fans are not that good if you crank up the gear past 756

look at my you tube video

now imagine this hub

http://m.usbgear.com/10pchgrhubmini.html

with the 2 fans  in my video
