I'd like to make some improvements to the Swedish translation of the client. I understand the technical side of making a pull request etc., but will my request be accepted? There aren't many people in the project who can judge if the Swedish translation is good or not, so will it simply be accepted if noone opposes it?
Previous Swedish translations seem to have been commited by codler, is this person "responsible" for the Swedish translation? Related to this, is there anywhere I can see a list of people who have permissions to make a pull?

Nej, är inte speciellt intresserad av det. Kommer som sagt snart att dra igång lite grejer.

I think the forum is not the best place to get answers. When you find a forum result in Google (not just this forum), you usually get long winded discussions and not a concise result. This is why I want to encourage people to post their answers at SE. I could just post an answer linking to a forum thread, but it's much more effective if people just post answers themselves.
We're not competing here. Both the forum and SE serve a purpose. I just prefer that questions and answers are posted there, while discussions here, and this is what I recommended. Anyone is of course free to disagree with me.
If you change "Please don't answer in the forum, we'd like the best answer to be directly in Stack Exchange" to something like "Please also answer the question on the StackExchange site" then I don't have a problem with it. There's no reason why this forum too shouldn't benefit from the answer, considering that you asked the question here. If people believe that the best place to find answers is the SE site then that page will probably top the forum page in a Google search.

Opinion? Debate? Extended discussion? Oh the horror!
+1 feels like an iron maiden and thus can be a little frustrating. It's not that people don't want debate and extended discussions, it's just that the StackExchange site is not the place for it. Different sites have different purposes. Your question would have been closed by the StackExchange moderators (employees) if the community hadn't done it first. None of the sites in their network allow debate or extended discussion. The sites are not forums, they are Q&A sites.

While I'm a big fan of the StackExchange site myself it doesn't really seem fair to this forum to ask for help here and then tell people to answer it on another site.
Under what definition of "fair"? This site is providing a service to you, for free. You can come here, ask questions, discuss, get answers. You can see what others have discussed and what answers others have given. If there were only questions here but no answers it wouldn't be very useful. A lot of forums won't allow you to advertise competing sites at all. This forum is very liberal in that sense, but you're taking it one step further. You are asking people of this forum to help you here but then you won't let it benefit this forum. The reasonable thing to do would be to ask the question here and if you get a good answer, ask that person if you can also use the answer at the StackExchange site. If you go to a friend's house and he shows you something great in a book of his you don't tear the page out and take it home. You might ask him if he'll let you make a copy of the page. It's just common courtesy.

Can someone please hop over and answer this question? Please don't answer in the forum, we'd like the best answer to be directly in Stack Exchange. Thanks! While I'm a big fan of the StackExchange site myself it doesn't really seem fair to this forum to ask for help here and then tell people to answer it on another site.

If you refer to this thread then I agree that the constant bumping by Chris Acheson was a bit excessive. It's not in line with normal forum etiquette.
Eh, I was impatient, and it's not like normal forum etiquette is observed around here anyway. I don't personally have a big problem with it but it would be understandable if people did (yes, along with a lot of other stuff on this forum). I'm a big fan of the StackExchange site and I'm glad that your bumping got it started but to someone who is not interested in it I don't think that "Eh, I was impatient" would count as a very good excuse for constant bumping. But this is getting off-topic, if we wanna continue this discussion it should probably be in the Meta forum.

because it is advertised by the stackexchange fans all the time.
If you refer to this thread then I agree that the constant bumping by Chris Acheson was a bit excessive. It's not in line with normal forum etiquette. But this thread (where Shapado also was mentioned a few times) does not explain the 143:1 question ratio. I think that people are just enthustiastic about Bitcoin and want it to get some good exposure. A StackExchange site has a greater potential of accomplishing that than a Shapado site. btw: are there people affiliated with stackexchange arround here? full disclosure!
I'm not, and I doubt that there are, but I don't know for sure.

it is quite impressive how slow this goes. has it been two month now or longer? at shapado it took 15 minutes.... just sayin... I'm sure the StackExchange people could have set up a site in 15 minutes too but there's a thought behind why they don't. There's a thought behind getting a certain number of commited users before launching a site. People who find a site with no activity will quickly leave it. The Shapado site now has 1 question, the StackExchange site has 143 (after 3 days).

- A clearing house for expertise on the different aspects of bitcoin, that puts out regular press releases to media outlets, then guides the incoming queries through the appropriate channels.
- A repository of all previous coverage of bitcoin in the media.
- A proactive effort to contact levels of government, banking, trading, law enforcement, etc... towards showing that bitcoin, while truly revolutionary as a concept, isn't necessarily "dangerous" and can in fact be complementary to already existing policies, systems and paradigms.
- Perhaps some inroads into academia, to see if some bright students want to make bitcoin the object of their dissertation, or to channel the knowledgable people to give talks at universities and colleges.
Good thread. I think that each country needs to get initiatives like this going. Bitcoin enthusiasts in Germany/Sweden/Whatever have to get together to contact the German/Swedish/Whatever government. The media in each country should have somewhere to turn to for expertise etc. Personally I'll try to get some sort of community/forum going on www.bitcoin.se soon. Hopefully some of the people visiting will be interested in PR work.
