This user is currently ignored.

Please go away.  This is not a cult discussion.   Undecided

(You are probably too brainwashed to understand, so I just urge everyone else to ignore your nonsense too.)

So, just because someone is religious means they can't have an opinion on the matter? Was that comment directed solely at BADecker? Or were you generalizing all religious people as "brainwashed"? You do know that some of us "creationists" also acknowledge science as equally important. As someone who has a real interest in the universe and the physics at play, I personally buy in to the big rip theory as the most plausible end to the universe.

All religious people ARE brainwashed.

Nice try, but your quote can be applied to any system of learning, including the education system. You know, that place where all of the scientists were systematically indoctrinated based on repetition and confusion. You can apply it to yourself as well.

You forget the part where theory is independently verified through experiment. If experiment shows theory is wrong it is replaced. Please show me which religious dogma is falsifiable and peer reviewed?

a good friend of mine has lung cancer and is taking RICK SIMPSON OIL, aka cannabis oil, aka, RSO to cure his cancer.

Thats right, cannabis oil is the CURE for cancer.

Your friend will be dead within the year. Get that guy some actual science based medical treatment and stop thinking that cancer is one disease process.

For me its 100% super mario bros 1 for the NES. Best game ever !

This was the first time I had ever seen an NES game. It literally blew my mind and I spent the next 15 years immersed in all things gaming and game programming.

Did anyone ever play Command & Conquer: Red Alert for the computer? It was real time strategy game set in WWII, except the Russians had chrono-technology so you were basically re-fighting WWII as the Allies to keep the Russians from taking over Europe.

That's my all-time favorite computer game.

Aaaaand, I just learned it's now free-ware and available for download. Excuse me while I revisit my childhood for the next several days...

I had that running on my 486 slc 25mhz, good game. We spent lots of time taking over the schools lan to play it.

Best game I ever bought would be Legend of Zelda for the NES. I was around 10 at the time and I remember saving up my allowance for weeks. I did lots of odd jobs around the house and for my parents friends as well.  Fisrt game I ever was able to save for and by outright with my own money.  Was a big accomplishment at that age.

Still to this day one of the best games ever produced.  I still play it from time to time on my Nintendo emulator for the PC.  Been trying to finish it for a long time again on the PC but the emulator keeps losing my game progress. They seem to be really finicky with these types of games that require you to push and hold the reset button while you turn it off.

Same thing always happens with Dragon Warrior, which I am still to ever finish.

Final Fantasy 1, on release day. I had to nag the shit out of my parents for it. I spent the better part of a year with my friend trying to figure it out. No internet, nothing but rumours from class mates and the occasional Nintendo Power or EGM.

Dragon warrior 1 was a close second. We didn't beat both until years later.

Nintendo Power was great as a kid.  I remember waiting for the new one to hit stores so I could run out and buy it, ended up subscribing to it for years.

I remember calling the Nintendo Hotline a few times as well for certain games growing up.

No internet, nothing but rumours from class mates and the occasional Nintendo Power or EGM.

Off topic, but man, those were the days.  I remember the fun trying to solve a level by talking with your friends.  No instant google soup like today.  Smiley

Yeah, we were definitely forced to think as kids to beat the games.  I remember being stuck for ages on certain games.  Beating games back then without cheats and minimal help sure was a lot more satisfying.

Zelda is in my top 5, I'm probably the same age as you and it was slightly too advanced for me when it came out, again beat it years later with cheating. I remember having pages and pages of hand drawn maps and passwords for different games. Faxanadu was another great one. The games back then had little guidance about what to do, mostly because of lack of storage capacity, but it forced one to spend weeks wandering around stuck.

In dragon warrior 1, we finally found Edricks armour, once we had BBS  access when I was about 14-15. That took about 5 years to find.

FF1, Dragon warrior, Faxanadu, Zelda, Megaman 2.

I beat FF1 last year over the holidays in a few hours with a game genie emulator. Going back with an emulator does ruin a lot of my memories. From the perspective of a child and 25 years, they seemed so much more advanced and indepth than they really are.

What kind of lunatic would make a rape victim marry her attacker?  Answer: God.

The idea is protection of the child and the parents at the same time. Some other opetions:
1. You could execute all three;
2. You could execute the mother and fetus and punish the guy;
3. You could let the state or the parents raise the child, and execute the guy.

How about not executing anyone? How about executing religious fanatics?

If there is one thing that the scientific community hasn't figured out yet, it is that the science of the universe is so complicated that scientists won't have it figured out 500 years from now. However, by then scientists will have figured out just how ignorant the science community of today is.

I love this, the "scientists don't know everything therefore they know nothing argument". One such as your self, who has zero scientific training or knowledge, would be best to keep your ignorance private.

The universe isn't deterministic, it is probabilistic. Evidence; the transistors in the device you are using to dismiss the process that brought it into fruition. This is basic quantum mechanics a third year physics student learns and verifies through experiment. All semi-conductors and lasers use this fact.

You use ancient, false, arguments such as the concept of a "prime mover". The rest of the world has moved past your bronze age logic.

Spend a measly year of your life and educate yourself from an academic source then come talk to me about your sky fairy.

233  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: GPU Mining profitability is a joke on: October 13, 2014, 06:54:20 PM
GPU mining at present is not a joke. Well! nothing is joking.

GPU has their value. like they can mine any coin and about asic, It can't.

Monero can be mined with it.

Monero has been mining at a loss since bcx threatened it. I don't know why the network rate is so high, it was lower when the coin was 2.18, now at 1.11, I'd lose about 5 dollars a day mining it. My my cheap tier one power at 0.07 i would make a dollar a day with monero, there's better opportunities elsewhere.

If the pool is reporting the hash rate correctly and the pool is not showing rejects, everythings probably fine. Just seeing block updates means youre not finding anything in time. I used to see this when I solo mined litecoin. The network maybe finding a block every 10-30 seconds, depending on the coin, ad you are perpetually on old work. Ive had this happen before...by lowering

"queue" : "0",
"scan-time" : "1",

to these numbers you can mitigate it. I think cgminer originally had something huge like 60 second scan time, i don't know the default for sgminer,  you could be hashing old work for an entire minute wasting time.

scan time will constantly poll for new work, and queue wont buffer additional work, you dont want to buffer work that will soon be obsolete.

It looks like your using the exact settings from the litecoin hardware comparison. I have never seen any useful mining at such a low intensity. The lowest I have any cards set to is 18, a 5770, 6950, 5850 and a flaky 290. everything else has been cranking at 20 for at least a year and in some instances 2 years. I mined scrypt exclusively from april 2013 to about may this year.

If there was a problem with the gpu, you'd get hardware errors or it would crash the display driver eventually.

Increase intensity to 20 and report back.

also change these in your config. 7 seconds, plus queued work is a lot of wasted time for a slow card
"queue" : "1", -> 0
"scan-time" : "7", -> 1

Mine's paid off and still mining at a profit.

which coin are you mining ?

He's leaving the part out where he has custom kernels he won't share. Not that I blame him.

You're not finding any shares, you need hundreds of megahash to effectively mine scrypt. Your intensity is too low, 12 is basically off idle. turn it up to at least 18.  The hash rate is pitiful, my ancient 5770 is hashing faster than that right now. Increase your intensity until you get hw errors, if you cant reach 20, increase thread concurrency a bit, but 8192 probably fine, i would guess it'll run at intensity 20

I doubt you'll find any shares because the pool will move to a new block before you ever find one. You need a long block time scrypt coin and maybe you'll find a share in time. I've never used hamster pool.

Honestly change the kernel to x11 and point it at wafflepool just to make sure its all working..here's a config from one of my rigs.

5x290's, i've removed some pool details. This rig gets about 4.4mhs scrypt, 24mhs x11. I've got one funky card that runs hot and it need lower intensity, 18, probably needs new thermal compound.

239  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XPM] Ever heard of Prime Coin ? on: October 12, 2014, 10:15:20 PM
I hear this all the time, what a waste POW is. Its not a waste when compared to physical security requirements. For the price of one rent-a-cops salary I could run 30 miners.

No, it is a waste. Bitcoin mining is the single biggest waste of electricity in the world.

But its not wasted, what is so difficult to understand, it powers the network. This is not using power for the sake of using power.

Idling my car because I'm too lazy to turn the key off is a waste.

Do we get something for all this electricity use? Yes we get bitcoin. If there was zero benefit then it is a waste.

I think what you are really saying is "buy my POS coin I'm heavily invested in".

Actually he is right. Miners have to dump all the mined BTC at the market because they can barley cover the electricity cost, so right now at this point in time - he's statement is correct.

This make no sense at all, because some miners aren't profitable that means the entire bitcoin network is a waste of power?

Whether mining bitcoin is profitable or not, and having pow secure the network are two completely different issues. Plus you make blanket statements like all miners sell all coins..really? Cite your source for every single miner please.

Conflation and confabulation, look them up.

I swear with the shit people make up and believe, combined with the logical fallacies infesting trains of thought I wonder how these people even function at all. I keep thinking people interested in bitcoin are outliers, technically minded, intelligent people. I doubt this more and more every day.
