221  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2016-02-11]Ethereum Price Rise being led by Bitcoin Flight on: March 13, 2016, 07:25:31 AM
I tell you guys what will happen.
Ethereum will see a dump, no doubt about that. What we don't know is how much it will get dumped.
And what will happen after that is that one part will cash out and another other part will move into Bitcoin.
The dumb will get left behind if they should miss to get out in time.

I also thought that would happen but given the fact that blockstream might suceed in destroying bitcoin I don't think that's going to happen and eth will most likely pass blockstreamcoin's market cap before 2017.
222  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain give false? on: December 31, 2015, 01:27:56 PM
Price of import = sale price of items (or fair value) + shipping ACTUAL cost. The amount you were charged for shipping was possibly less than it actually cost to ship, meaning the declared value comes out higher. + exchange variations.
That's a lie. You are to be charged on the value you PAID for. You cannot be taxed anywhere in the world for something you didn't pay, regardless of the company eating the shipping price or not. And Bitmain doesn't decrease the actual shipping price. If anything they increase it.

Well, they don't steal anything, they don't get anything more from this, so yeah they often mess up the value on things, i'm not sure why, but its a pain to deal with the rectifying the price declared.
They get 17% from chinese government out of everything they export, or what they say they do.

I,m pretty sure taxes work the other way around. The more money they get from people, the more tax they need to pay, which would translate into being a income loss if you declare higher gain than you did gain and better gain if you declare same or less than what you gained.

Maybe China works differently than what i can imagine.
No, I don't think they get a 17% tax refund. I know they do. I know how chinese export works and I already heard directly from two bitmain employees about this.
That's why miners in chinese site are ~15% more expensive than global.

I'ts funny how BITMAIN always declared my invoices a bit higher than they actually were.

I paid 12.4 BTC for 4x S7 batch 8 when price of BTC was 418$, meaning I paid 5183 $ for the order.
Their invoice is 5300 $
This rounding up in their favor happened on every of my orders, they always declared a higher value
I wonder why they are doing this ?
my import duties is really high, 24 % of the declared value, so this means I will extra for the import because of this.

They should be helping their customers, instead they are overwhelming them with higher import duties
They get a 17% tax refund from government.
225  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BITMAIN Order Cancelation on: November 17, 2015, 05:11:46 AM
I believe that you can have them change the shipping destination, although you may have to pay some additional amount if it costs more - so you might be able to find a buyer who will effectively 'take over' your purchase.  It's a tricky proposition, but if Bitmain will switch the order over to another account, then it might be possible.  You also could consider working with someone you know in another, more favorable import country, get them delivered and sell them off one-sy two-sy - you'll get the best return this way.
Just so OP know, I tried that too. I even got american and chinese customers knowing it's easier for them this way. Was ignored completely as usual.

227  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BITMAIN Order Cancelation on: November 17, 2015, 05:02:21 AM
Thank you for your support but i still have time. If they wont cancel my order i will be left penniless and in debt (and i cant have a debt i already have a mortgage nobody will give me another credit) so most probably i will have to refuse the order. Lawyering up i dont think it would help they would simply ignore my lawyer too.
Yeah like I said I don't know what to do either.
But I would tell you not to count on 100% refund when they get miners back, if you decide to deny it (i dont think you will get this order cancelled, they dont give a shit about you or anyone so you will have to take it or deny it when it arrives). They probably will claim you will have to pay costs, tax, fees, opportunity loss etc etc. And of course take months to pay you.

let us (me, i dont think other miners will care about you, me or anyone else either) know how it goes
228  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BITMAIN Order Cancelation on: November 17, 2015, 04:49:09 AM
Hello. I made a mistake and bought for a client of mine 25 s7 batch 5 from bitmain thinking they will deliver in 2-5 working days or 2 weeks with delay. What i didnt see is that they deliver from 27 nov and i promised the miners by 15 nov and now my client has asked for his money back and with what i have left i cant even afford to pay the vat to deliver to my country. I have asked bitmain for a order cancelation and since they didnt deliver yet i thought that would be ok, no harm done but they only ignore me or tell me to wait patiently for the deliver (i tell them i wont be able to pay for the crazy 24% vat my country has and they tell me to wait patiently for the miners to be delivered wtf???). What can i do ? Has anyone gone through something like this with bitmain ?
Yes. First consider yourself lucky to only be robbed out of 24%. I am robbed 80% by the government mafia (brazil).
Bitmain will not do anything at all. You might wanna lawyer up since it's a big order.
I passed through the same thing as you, and even though I contacted them hours after the purchase and btc price dropped (batch 4, quoted in USD. Btc price drops they lose) which would mean big profit for them (well over 35%, I purchased when bitcoin was at $496 and got proof of it in case you dont believe my luck), they ignored it COMPLETELY. I contacted everyone possible at bitmain, just to be ignored. They don't care. In fact the order was shipped early today.
I'm fucked either way. I will have either have to get a loan at the bank, be fucked by the bank and then be robbed and fucked by the government or risk denying these products, having them sent back to bitmain (or seized by the government forever!) and to count on bitmain to refund me anything, to which I can guess will be very very very small if anything, knowing as bitmain is.
Quote
At one point it seemed i was getting somewhere with them when they finally seemed to actually read what i was saying and told me to send them back a mail with my id and a proper order cancelation request and after i sent that they responded "we are sorry but we dont give refunds please wait patiently for your miners to be delivered" and thats it. From friday they didnt say a word.
Well at least they responded you! Look at how nice this company is. *awaits for bitmain shills to actually agree on this*
http://prntscr.com/93nfne
I am awaiting to be responded since SEPTEMBER. Not to mention the tons of emails, skype, private message etc

It's 3 am and I am up because of this. Can't sleep. I am considering to fight. Not gonna give my sweat to bitmain or government. To neither. I think the best thing we could do is perhaps unite and spread the word on how bitmain treats their customers however I think everyone already knows that (and still kisses their ass), thus the reason I havent even bothered so far...

Dealing with bitmain is an ordeal. People here kiss their ass even though bitmain screws them all because they see bitmain as the sole provider of their (overpriced and bugged) toys.

Good luck
229  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon 6? Any owners out there? on: November 16, 2015, 04:36:35 PM
http://zoomhash.com/collections/bitcoin-asics/products/avalon-6-3-65-ths-shipping-from-stock-in-us

I don't see how that is better then the S 7, even cost more !!!

I have bought a Few things from Zoomhash in the past they don't ripe you off . if they do, i guess I've just been lucky.

cya
I don't care about zoomhash but speaking of the avalon
s7: 0.2830j/gh efficiency
a6: 0.29j/gh nearly the same
s7: 0.3876$/gh
a6: 0.3972$/gh also nearly the same
im also assuming avalon would be much quieter

let us not forget there also is the zoomhash's profit in the equation. i wonder if we can still buy directly from canaan, then it will be much cheaper i guess
not to mention that it is impossible to have worst customer care than bitmain

3) Change block speed (for faster confirmation)

Note that none of these involve the 21m cap. If you decrease block speed by half the reward would have to be dropped too for example.
I would agree with 1 and 2 but definitely not 3. 10 minute block is ideal for Bitcoin as there is lesser forks and stales for miners and more security for merchants. The security of 2x 5 minute confirmations would have the security of 1x 10 minute confirmation. Merchants would start requiring more confirmations if that happens. Right now, most brick and mortar shops do not even require a confirmation to accept a transaction.
I forgot 4) Pow to something more efficient.
This won't happen anytime soon but I believe these 4 points will be done eventually. PoS is much better than PoW but don't expect miners to agree into turning their equipment to $0 in a instant.

21m btc change will never be done. Or shouldn't if we want bitcoin to be trading above $0.0001
There is one huge problem with POS itself. Huge exchanges would be holding monopoly with the coins and the earnings would be concentrated on those who owns lots of coins or a popular service. Other than that, yeah, ASICs are created specifically for this. If you were to change POW to POS, every mining operation would be unprofitable. The price would also plummet.
Not a single entity officially currently holds over 2% of bitcoins.
I don't believe anyone holds over 5% and ever will.

F2Pool alone holds over 23% of PoW power. Ghash got to 51%+ before.
231  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Cheap power in Argentina on: November 07, 2015, 05:18:37 PM

I am moving into a place in Buenos Aires, Argentina where power will be free. Power is cheap here anyhow. How much mining power do I need approximately to generate 1 btc a month?

I heard another way of mining is to actually buy mining power on line. You donīt have to worry about any equipment breaking down.  Is there a tutorial on mining and how to perform all the necessary calculations? What about a excel spreadsheet?

What are your thoughts?
There are ways to get around the import tax but it may require him to have it shipped into uruguay.

I would not plan on that it's not a good businesses  practice to dodge laws.  If you buy new most likely it will come with correct amount and you will owe import/vat.

If op has them we need to know how much.   And we still need to know electricity price.

Well, I have a traverler coming in December, who is a U.S. Citizen. I am not concerned too much about the laws as Argentine Customs does not bother U.S. Citizens that much. Itīs their own that they scrutinize the most. I am not certain on the laws here. I was told by a lot of travelers that one electronic item is O.K, as long as itīs not for resale. Itīs when you start bringing in multiple items that they want to start taxing you.

As far as the cost of electricity down here exactly, I am not sure. I know it is cheap compared to other countries. I think somewhere around $0.03 per kwh. When I get my hands on a bill I will post it. Again the place I am moving into, electric is free. Might as well mine.
Don't pay a single cent to government. They haven't done anything to this transaction. It's all between you, seller and shipper nobody else. People who criticize about it are mostly americans who don't pay import tax and want the rest of the world specially miners to pay.
I knew energy price in argentina was cheap but I thought it was something more like $0.06. I was looking towards doing something on neighbour venezuela but argentina seems closer and more stable.

Just beware if government want to take your stuff for the "greater good"

Not sure if this has already been mentioned in the thread:

BITMAIN did correct the specifications on Batch 6 to say the following:  "5. Chip quantity per unit: 135 x BM1385"

I still find it confusing it says:

2. Power Consumption: 1042 W + 10% (at the wall, with APW3, 93% efficiency, 25C ambient temp)

3. Power Efficiency: 0.25 J/GH + 10% (at the wall, with APW3, 93% efficiency, 25°C ambient temp)

The reason this is confusing to me is because it does not say, "+/-" but only "+"

The BM1385 chip is capable of 32.5 GHS per chip at just 0.216 Watts of power usage per GHS with 0.66V core voltage.

I'm just totally confused at the moment.  Can someone chime in to help me understand if it is 1042 watts at the wall @ 600MHz or 1,146.2 watts (+10%) ??
The same instant bitmain put up b6 up, and was ignored like I usually am.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1165628.msg12893262#msg12893262
and another post regarding efficiency 2 posts down

In a way or another this last batch isn't as efficient as all previous s7. Up to (not saying it IS) 15% less efficient I'd say. And not a single word has been mentioned by them regarding this and they couldn't even put actual efficiency. They just put this "+" stuff to misguide people.

235  Economy / Economics / Re: Increase the 21M BTC limit in future? on: November 07, 2015, 08:43:30 AM
This can be done but it is something that never will be done. The instant this gets any actual development bitcoin will fail. There is no reason at all to change this. It's perfect as it is and always will be. Bitcoin was created to counter the very reason of uncontrolled money print. 21m will always be its limit or else bitcoin will fail.
I believe we will have 3 hard forks eventually:
1) Change block size (this already is needed)
2) Change cryptography (in less than 100 years it may be outdated and easier to crack)
3) Change block speed (for faster confirmation)

Note that none of these involve the 21m cap. If you decrease block speed by half the reward would have to be dropped too for example.

what do you guys think, i was about to buy a S7 Batch 3 but was having trouble pulling all the BTC together, but i check today and i still have the order in my backet ready for checkout, do you think if i check it out, they will honor it, or will it be pain in the ass, if they don`t and getting my BTC backs..

It is so easy.

You can not checkout.

i can reach all the way to the confirm button, but not going to try, it`s alot of money to bet on a maybe it will work !!!!!
You will not be able to checkout. It will say product ran out of stock. Same thing happened to me many times. Go try it and see for yourself.

another thing batch 4 - 4660th 1160w 0.2489j/gh
batch 6 - 4050th 1042w 0.2572j/gh that's a 3.33% difference even without the "+10%"
238  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: November 05, 2015, 10:59:42 AM

3. Power Efficiency: 0.25 J/GH + 10% (at the wall, with APW3, 93% efficiency, 25°C ambient temp)

I am guessing this one is 0.275J/GH then.
