221  Economy / Economics / Re: Stock market tanking away to day. on: October 16, 2014, 06:09:21 PM
Man I hope this stock market drop is only a short term thing and it recovers. This is not good for our economy Sad

the economy has to go to utter shit before it gets better. it isn't bad enough yet for things to improve. fatfuck americans can still buy mcdonalds and big screen TVs. once they cannot do this, then panic will ensue. consider this the parameter to set an alert for
222  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why blockchains might want to consider using AT "Turing complete" txs on: October 16, 2014, 05:43:55 PM

I don't know if it will be part of the NXT testnet, since it won't be integrated into NXT, correct me if I am wrong. It will initially be implemented in the core of Qora, making it the first world-wide AT integration.

Correction, it will be on Nxt Testnet this weekend.  It's a specific dedicated NxtAT testnet.  Your information about integration is also wrong.  Qora might have an AT testnet up and running in two months (if he decides to actually do something on testnet).

Source's:

Also, what's a "world-wide" integration?

you haven't heard of the Inuit people's regional use of AT?

right after bow and arrow, AT was popularized in their culture. westerners are quite far behind
223  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why blockchains might want to consider using AT "Turing complete" txs on: October 16, 2014, 03:18:21 AM
If close source projects want to use AT that is of no concern to me (license is MIT not GNU).

If they make their version of AT *incompatible* with others then it would basically just either make it harder or maybe even impossible for that blockchain to participate in atomic cross-chain transfers (which wouldn't be likely to help with making their blockchain very popular).

I see your point.  I am also really impressed about how you handled yourself.  You gave back all the NXT when you parted ways.  In cryptoland that just doesn't happen that often.

Just 2 days ago I was talking about how I thought CIYAM was one of the most valuable resources in NXT and how I thought you would come through with your project.  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=654845.msg9191130#msg9191130

With CfB phasing out, and you gone, to me that just leaves James as the only person left that can code something new and interesting.

NXT has a lot of talented devs. they just don't post like CFB/JL do....it seems they stick to technical sub forums

This could use an explanation for those of us that don't speak weird random letters and numbers Smiley
Thx
Nxt will release its own Turing-complete scripting language before Ethereum.
Turing-complete scritping language? Can you explain for non tecnical users

It means that the blockchain will be able to do things by itself.
It makes the blockchain alive.

It is the Saint-Grail for some, hell for some others.
It means that almost anything is possible, for better or for worse.

The Pandora box will be open soon.

maybe you could elaborate? the only thing I know can happen with AT is dividend payments. does this make DACs possible also?

Hahah,
So a new idea is now a Telepathy feature   Grin
Yeah guys, all legit and straight up.

Advice to small investors (say under 500 coins)
Get out and put your BTC to good use on something
your going to get a return on.

500% returns are horrible. wish I hadn't bought btcd

Just updated the official bootstrap

Download http://www.bitstarcoin.com/bootstrap.dat
Backup your wallet
Delete everything apart from wallet.dat, and config (if you have one) from your %appdata%/bitstar
copy bootstrap.dat into %appdata%/bitstar
restart wallet

Edit: Very important ... Make sure your on the current wallet

i followed these instructions. I opened my wallet 20 minutes ago and it's still at the orange Bitstar wallet loading screen. It says it is importing the bootstrap blockchain data file. how long does should this take?
It takes quite long but it's faster than loading from online. I have done it several times. Just wait patiently. You can go watch %appdata%\bitstar to see it progress. There are two files that grow in size. Don't remember them now.

Ok I see it progressing. Any idea how many KBs for completion?

Oh. How come?Smiley

a platform with working AT is a big deal from what i have heard
229  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] ATOMIC: in SuperNET CORE - single blockchain for trading all coins&assets on: October 14, 2014, 12:45:40 AM
Our goal is to begin alpha testing within this community sooner than that  Smiley If you'd be interested in helping out with that process go ahead and send me a pm or email!

I have just added Eureka's Chinese translations to the documentation section of www.atomicdac.org obviously most people on here wont be able to read that but you should take a look anyway as I at least find it pretty awesome that we are now an internationally known project (making it to the top of bter's news list in China yesterday) and Eureka has been spending time posting the information in every place that a Chinese crypto-currency investor/enthusiast would look.

And then on top of that at the same time we have Criptix working in Europe as well as the U.S. working on a list of crypto news outlets/blogs etc so that we can hopefully become a featured technology and more well known in the crypto-currency scene.

Everything is looking great today, I just had a meeting with one of the other developers and we have officially gotten to the point that we can append useful information to the blockchain and we are now working on an algorithm to effectively compress and decompress the information that we append without adding any delays to the transaction (this is to minimize the size of the blockchain, however we may ditch compression in favor of overall performance) This will most likely be a subject that we open up to community discussion and voting prior to the alpha release of ATOMIC.

We've also added two other members to the team to work on an QTQUICK/C++ mobile interface (android and windows phone for sure, iOS maybe depending on whether or not the holy Apple gatekeepers decide to let us in)

are technical skills required? i am interested if they are not. as a non techie, i might be a good "end user test dummy"

why would an exchange advertise for you? seems like Atomic is competition to bTER?

233  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] ATOMIC: in SuperNET CORE - single blockchain for trading all coins&assets on: October 13, 2014, 02:49:15 AM
Quote
I think the best way to describe Atomic would be a decentralized exchange based on the bitcoin technology.
Basically it is a decentralized exchange run by everyone who wants to participate (as a miner) in the Atomic network.
Imagine bittrex or cryptsy without the need of a website - pure and straight cross-blockchain trading of coins/assets, that is Atomic.
You can see mining in the Atomic network as a process of exchanging coins/assets between different ledgers.

So this "decentralized exchange" called Atomic will be embedded in a GUI? (supernet GUI I'm assuming?) Which users can use to input trades with whatever pair is supported on the network.

As opposed to now where exchanges hold wallets for coins. To get NXT, you have to pay BTC usually. But if you had a coin like Bitstar and wanted NXT, you would have to convert to BTC and then you could purchase NXT because there are no BITS/NXT pairs.

With Atomic, I could just put up a BITS ask within the BITS/NXT pair and trade peer to peer? During this transaction, I will have to pay a fee in BITS and Atoms.

The user experience will not require any purchasing of tokens prior to making an exchange. If a user has Atoms in their wallet already, then those Atoms will be used to append exchanges to the ledger. Otherwise in the case that a user does not have any Atoms in their wallet, they will automatically be included in the ledger fee (which is insignificant). So one never has to worry about funding their wallets or anything like that, but they can if they want to. I suggest you also take a look at the POG section of the documentation as criptix has pointed out, it explains how the Atoms are going to be used for multiple purposes including measuring the age of nodes using the coinage of their oldest coin!

So if a person has no Atoms, they will pay extra in whatever coin they are exchanging?

how likely is it that ATMs supporting Bitstar are going to be planted in cyrpus? has the government shown itself to be crypto friendly? I would be interested in any articles anyone might have off hand about cyprus and cryptos

238  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] ATOMIC: in SuperNET CORE - single blockchain for trading all coins&assets on: October 12, 2014, 12:41:36 AM
so ATOMIC is advertising the prices of coins across all exchanges within a block chain?

maybe this - atomic is advertising the transactions between coins across all exchanges within a blockchain? i'm not sure i understand why someone would want to participate in this? what is the incentive?

visualized it would look like this

mining is not traditional mining (PoW), but more like a PoS system? the more tokens you have, the more likely you are to earn rewards for that block?
more so PoS. much like when you open a wallet (like BTCD) and receive XX amount of BTCD relative to the size of your stake. Not sure what the incentive is to collect tokens though? to collect more tokens? which are profitable how?

what is the difference between Atomic Asset and "Atom" (token)
atomic asset holders will receive dividends for transactions (in BTC?) while atom holders will receive atoms as a forging reward

oh, so in order for a transaction to be put onto the atomic block chain, users will have to pay Atoms (tokens). then miners will be able to mine these tokens in a system similar to PoS. all they have to do is have a full node

why would someone want to pay tokens for their transaction to go onto the Atomic chain?

Just a bloody period for all crypto over the last couple of months.

Still trying to do work on indexing, but I have a record of coinmarketcap showing total crypto cap at $8.6 billion on August 4th.

Just two months later, we're at $4.6 billion for a whopping 46.5% slide.  Not a lot of hiding places.

Total Market Cap: $ 4,639,741,579
Last updated: Oct 05, 2014 3:30 PM UTC

24h change -9.28 % for the top three, some doing as worse as -18.60 % (XMR). No hiding place anywhere, with the exception of "BitShares PTS" but that is a small one.

That is the mess, now where is the reason? Is it:

1) Satoshi got hacked, the email adress popped up recently, his Bitcoins get dumped. Since all Altcoins reference their trade value on that, going down in flames too. Should be visible inside Blockchain analysis.
2) Some other party sells on a grand scale. I remember there had been huge reserves inside Silkroad and MtGox. Traceable.
3) People distrust information technology now since the Snowden incident, so they sell (many small private holdings)
4) The other reason, it is not to many sells but lack of buying support. Should be visible in comparing the Orderbooks with history data (which I do lack)
5) Generall lack of interest since private people cannot mine Bitcoins anymore on their desktops. Duh, difficult one ... Difficulty is still high. But how to know where the Hashrate originates from?

edit:
6) self fullfilling prophecy taking place outside of the Altcoins. BTC gets sold because the price dips, with the intention of buying back in on a cheaper value. Hence the price dips further. This starteded 2~3 days ago
