Mt.Gox Crypto Exchange Begins Civil Rehabilitation Proceedings, Ends Bitcoin Sell-Offs

A statement and accompanying documentation confirm the move, which will see attorney Nobuaki Kobayashi act as civil rehabilitation trustee.

Kobayashi was responsible for selling vast tranches of Bitcoin reserves beginning Q4 last year to reimburse Mt. Gox users who lost money in the exchange’s mass hack in late 2013. The sell-offs appeared to have a conspicuous effect on markets, Bitcoin prices tumbling immediately following each transaction, which Kobayashi performed on major exchanges.

“The power and authority to administer and dispose of MTGOX’s assets is still vested exclusively in me, and I will implement the civil rehabilitation proceedings, including the administration of MTGOX’s assets and the investigation of claims, subject to the Tokyo District Court’s supervision,” Kobayashi wrote in the new documentation.

However, due to the bankruptcy proceedings now being halted as part of the civil rehabilitation, Kobayashi will not sell any further bitcoins, with users set to receive compensation in BTC instead of fiat currency as originally intended.

“...In the civil 2 rehabilitation proceedings in this matter, claims seeking a refund of Bitcoins (“Bitcoin Claims”) will also not be converted into monetary claims after the commencement of the civil rehabilitation proceedings,” Kobayashi continues.

Chinese officials are partnering with tech giant Tencent on the formation of a new China Blockchain Security Alliance, according to a report from state-owned ChinaNews June 21.

Aiming to promote security in the blockchain industry, the new alliance was announced at yesterday’s China Blockchain Security Forum in Beijing, hosted by the government-backed China Technology Market Association (CTMA).

According to ChinaNews, the alliance will consist of Tencent’s security arm, CTMA, the China Blockchain Application Research Center, and 20 other public and private institutions, including government advisory agencies, network security firms and blockchain-related organizations.

It is understood that the alliance will work to establish long-term mechanisms for the secure development of the country’s blockchain ecosystem, as well as working to crack down on illicit activities in the blockchain space, including pyramid schemes and fraud.

As ChinaNews notes, the Beijing conference was held amid the backdrop of a rising number of blockchain and crypto-related crimes in the country, most notably a recent suspected crypto pyramid-scheme alleged to have defrauded over 13,000 investors of ¥86 million ($13 million), leading to four arrests in the northwestern city of Xi’an this April.

227  Local / Pilipinas / Re: 50% loss in capital on: June 02, 2018, 02:46:22 PM

232  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bounty campaign - waste of time or great passive income? on: May 15, 2018, 02:38:29 PM
Crypto world is in crysis now and it's not only due to red market but also because of tons of scam ICOs. And that pisses a lot of bounty hunters off cause scam ICOs produce useless unworthy tokens! People waste sometimes several months to participatein bounty and either get no tokens or get shitcoins.

It's so hard now to find a good bounty. eCoinomic.net platform is running one now and it looks pretty solid and trustworthy, they also predict a balanced growth for CNC token https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2897866.msg29799978#msg29799978

But how do you guys know if your bounty is trustable? Why do you personally trust bounty you're participating in right now?
Well, if you don't want you're time to be wasted in participating in bounty campaign you have to choose wisely and don't join to campaign that have many participant's.

South Korea’s top financial regulator the Financial Services Commission (FSC) joined the ongoing probe into local cryptocurrency exchanges Sunday, May 13.

The FSC will now be taking part in the anti money laundering investigation, hitherto led by the Financial Supervisory Service (FSS), in order to help expand its scope, news outlet Korea Times reports.

Commenting on the agency’s move, Vice Chairman of the FSC Kim Yong-beom has urged regulators worldwide to coordinate their regulatory policies on cryptocurrencies.

Following a request from the FSS, the FSC will now check bank accounts belonging to Korean crypto exchanges on compliance with anti-money laundering (AML) standards and other fraud prevention measures. According to Korea Times’ report, the main subject of the expanded audit would be Bithumb, the country’s largest crypto exchange which revealed plans to launch its own crypto token back in April.

234  Local / Pilipinas / Re: What is HOT WALLET and COLD WALLET ? on: May 14, 2018, 08:56:02 AM

Where and how would you invest 1m dollars? What coins will you buy? Or will Huh you just put them in Bank? Huh Wink
I will invest the half of million dollars to the top 10 coins in the coinmarketcap and the remaining i will put it onto bank because investing in crypto is too risky.

Huawei Technologies Co., a Chinese multinational communications technology company, has announced that mobile phone users will be able to download Bitcoin (BTC) wallets on new Huawei devices starting Friday, Bloomberg reported May 10.

Huawei is releasing BTC.com’s Bitcoin wallet in its AppGallery app store, which will be pre-installed on all new Huawei smartphones, according to Alejandro de la Torre, vice president of business operations at BTC.com. It will reportedly be the first digital currency app offered on Huawei devices.

Access to apps like BTC.com’s is limited in China as the government blocks Android’s Google Play Store and some parts of Apple’s App Store. While Chinese authorities shut down cryptocurrency exchanges and banned initial coin offerings, people can still own cryptocurrencies. De la Torre told Bloomberg:

238  Economy / Economics / Re: The advantages of bitcoin on: May 08, 2018, 07:28:09 AM
Freedom of payment - any amount of money can be paid and received instantly and anywhere. No bank holidays, no borders, no imposition. Bitcoin allows its users to completely control their money.

Very low fees - there is no handling charge or very little handling fee for the current payment of bitcoin. The user can include the handling fee in the transaction to obtain processing priority and receive the transaction confirmation from the network faster. In addition, there are merchant processors that help merchants deal with transactions, convert bitcoin into legal tender daily and deposit funds directly into merchants' bank accounts. Because these services are based on bitcoins, they can provide a much lower fee than PayPal or credit card networks.

Reduce the risk of merchants - bitcoin transactions are safe, irrevocable, and do not contain customer sensitivity or personal information. This avoids the loss caused by fraud or fraudulent withdrawal, and there is no need to comply with PCI standards. In places where credit CARDS cannot be used or fraud rates are too high, businesses can easily expand new markets. The net result is lower costs, bigger markets, and less administrative costs.

Security and control - bitcoin users are completely in control of their transactions; Businesses cannot force fees that may or may not be found in other payment methods. Paying with bitcoin doesn't have to be tied to personal information in transactions, which provides great protection against identity theft. Bitcoin users can also protect their money by backing up and encrypting it.

Transparency and neutrality - all information about the money supply itself is stored in a block chain, and anyone can check and use it in real time. No individual or organization can control or manipulate the bitcoin protocol because it is password protected. This makes bitcoin's core believed to be completely neutral, transparent and predictable.
If bitcoin has a lot of advantage then there are some of disadvantage of bitcoin like the volatility, anonymous transactions and not widely accepted in some country's.
239  Local / Pamilihan / Re: Nakababahala ang KYC, Bakit? on: May 07, 2018, 04:38:48 PM

Japan’s financial watchdog, the Financial Services Agency (FSA), has laid out yet further regulatory stipulations for domestic crypto exchanges, Cointelegraph Japan reports today, May 6.

The regulator is reportedly intensifying its efforts to prevent a repeat of January’s $532 mln hack of crypto exchange Coincheck, the biggest single exchange hack in the history of the crypto ecosystem.

As Cointelegraph Japan reports, an FSA source told local news outlet Nikkei Asian Review that identifying potential risks in advance has been a challenge for the watchdog. The source reportedly told Nikkei that "without the necessary know-how, we've been feeling our way through the dark on how thoroughly we should check these different aspects.
