Could a Minister of Korea just ban all exchanges the same way China has done? Isn't necessary vote on the Congress or something like that?

South Korea's major cryptocurreny exchanges raided by police, tax authorities
Reuters Staff

2 MIN READ

SEOUL (Reuters) - South Korea’s largest cryptocurrency exchanges were raided by police and tax agencies this week for alleged tax evasion, people familiar with the investigation said on Thursday.

“A few officials from the National Tax Service raided our office this week,” an official at Coinone, a major cryptocurrency exchange in South Korea, told Reuters.

“Local police also have been investigating our company since last year, they think what we do is gambling,” said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity. He said Coinone was cooperating with the investigation.

Bithumb, the second largest virtual currency operator in South Korea, was also raided by the tax authorities on Wednesday.

“We were asked by the tax officials to disclose paperwork and things yesterday,” an official at Bithumb said, requesting anonymity due to the sensitivity of the issue.

South Korean financial authorities had previously said they are inspecting six local banks that offer virtual currency accounts to institutions, amid concerns the increasing use of such assets could lead to a surge in crime.

The crackdown on Seoul-based operators of some of the world’s busiest virtual currency exchanges comes as the government attempts to calm frenzied demand for cryptocurrency trading in Asia’s fourth largest economy.

Bitcoin’s 1,500 percent surge last year has stoked huge demand for cryptocurrency in South Korea, drawing college students to housewives and sparking concerns about a gambling addiction.

The only problem people usually have with etherdelta is the gas price. Sometimes you do not have enough, other times you should spend more. The thing is EThereum is facing some problems this day and we do not have so many people talking about.
2205  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: What about NEM? on: January 11, 2018, 02:40:38 AM
Nem is a platform that almost nobody talks about. I never see people promoting. And still, is one of top10 for a long time. I must confess that I do not know much about NEM. But there is a huge potential because great projects are starting to be build using their technology and platform. More them on NEO.

ZenCash is forked from ZClassic that was forked from ZCash that was "forked" from Bitcoin. There is not enough advancing on the code, just little changes. It will be cool if they came with something totally new and revolutionary.
2207  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: BRACE Yourself ZCLASSIC (ZCL) rebranding as Bitcoin Private (BTCP)!! on: January 11, 2018, 02:24:25 AM
I still do not understand if it will have an airdrop. People, who have BTC will receive BitcoinPrivate? How will this happen? Or it will be people with BCH? I have some Zclassic that I bought long ago but I do not know if they will worth less then the ones from the airdrop.
2208  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Can ETH reach BTC value ? on: January 10, 2018, 11:10:52 PM
Only if BTC fails. Ethereum needs to be seen as a Hight risk investment in a new technology that nobody knows it could work. ETH will never be seen as a store of value and could in the middle term stop to be seen as a currency.
Smart contracts are revolutionary and when Casper start to work will be amazing. But until there, a lot of things could happen.
2209  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 10, 2018, 11:02:24 PM
My only doubt about the income Bitcoin run to ATH is that if the total market cap will hit 1 trillion before or after Bitcoin hit 500 billion. This will tell a lot about the future of alts and if they can survive in the long term.

‘TESTNET IS SO BORING’
In messages on Twitter staff since appeared to back up privately, TorGuard confirmed users can now pay for its services in Bitcoin using Lightning, significantly reducing transaction times and fees.

The news makes the company a pioneer of Bitcoin mainnet LN payments after the technology debuted as a testnet interface last month.

“Disclaimer: c-lightning is not production ready. TorGuard will cover loss of funds when sending us LN payments. Testnet is so boring,” tweets added.
2211  Other / Ivory Tower / We need that some projects fail. on: January 10, 2018, 03:48:25 AM
We are seeing the emergence of several projects that are just scam and Ponzi schemes. Many are just code copies of other projects with an investment in marketing and a great work on branding and social media for the FOMO.

Even projects that have failed in a catastrophic way can recover in value, since someone always comes in to buy, and has not researched the past. Because they are only speculations on exchanges, it does not matter if at some point they will serve anything.

The value decreases, increases, but few times we see it reach zero.

Without being able to end forever, they will continue to shout Hold, spreading lies to pump. Like it was just a game and nothing more. We need them to fail or be destroyed. Only then will the best ones emerge stronger and more experienced and, thus, change our society forever.

Still doesn't have a working product? I thought it was a great product and would have go to the moon with everyone wanting a Privacy coin. Just need to see how ZClassic has gone from 8USD to 200USD. Verge and others.

It doesn't need to be listed in a big exchange, could be in a small one.

   https://www.ft.com/content/e04e359a-e9e9-3f8e-8e2f-3f4373e5efb0

Jamie Dimon says he “regrets” his now infamous criticism of bitcoin, in which he called the cryptocurrency a “fraud”.

The JPMorgan Chase chief executive on Tuesday softened the comments he made at a banking conference in September, saying in an interview on FOX Business Network, a US television station, that “I regret making them”.

Mr Dimon said that he personally is “not interested in the subject at all”. However, he said that blockchain, the ledger system that powers bitcoin and is also being used by an increasing number of companies for record keeping, “is real”.

He added that initial coin offerings need to be reviewed “individually”. ICOs in which investors pay in cryptocurrency for a company’s “tokens” have been the subject of fraud alerts from US regulators since they provide few investor protections.

Mr Dimon is one of the highest-profile executives on Wall Street. His remarks in September were met with anger from many in the cryptocurrencies community, but also echoed by other top executives, including Larry Fink, chairman and chief executive of BlackRock.

2215  Bitcoin / Press / [2018-01-09] Steven Nerayoff says the cryptocurrency's value could triple in 201 on: January 09, 2018, 04:36:14 AM
Ethereum co-creator Steven Nerayoff says increased projects built on the cryptocurrency could trigger a "flippening" in 2018, in which ethereum overtakes bitcoin.

"What you're seeing with ethereum is exponential increase in the number of projects — there are billions of dollars being poured into the ecosystem right now — maybe 10 times more projects this year than last year, which could easily lead to a doubling, probably a tripling in price by the end of the year," Nerayoff said Monday on CNBC's "Fast Money."

While bitcoin was designed to function as a peer to peer electronic payment system, ethereum was designed for smart contracts that execute when specific conditions are met. Nerayoff, who helped craft token sales for the ethereum project, said businesses in an increasingly wide variety of industries are starting to take note of what value Ethereum's protocol could offer them.

"You're seeing a tremendous amount of growth across a wide variety of industries. Fintech is actually the natural area, but now you're seeing it becoming increasingly more creative — you find projects in the oil and gas industry, you're finding government using it in their applications, you're seeing it in gaming, all kinds of different areas," Nerayoff said.

Beyond project building, Nerayoff said usage is increasing because ethereum can process transactions more quickly and cheaply than its rival.

"People are actually using it for currency, as well," he said. "Lower transactional costs are increasing usage of the entire network, and that's increasing the network effects of it. There are more users, more projects being built on there and more programmers," he said.

Despite his confidence, Nerayoff isn't discounting bitcoin and the interest in cryptocurrency it inspired in 2017.

"The entire space is increasing. There is huge interest by the public and there are more areas in which the public can invest, even in bitcoin, so you could just see an expansion in the entire space," he said.

Either way, when it comes to 2018, Nerayoff thinks ethereum is going to have a good year.

On the Luxembourg-based Bitstamp exchange, bitcoin closed down 8.73 percent at $14,766.86, with a market cap of $248 billion.

Ethereum had an estimated $110 billion market cap at close.

2216  Bitcoin / Press / [2018-01-09] Get ready for an explosion' in bitcoin as Wall Streeters spend thei on: January 09, 2018, 04:34:30 AM
Many market observers expect the crypto markets will have sharp spikes up and down this year compared to 2017.

A few weeks ago the bitcoin traded at more than $20,000, and at the end of 2017 the price dropped to around $11,000. This was followed by a rebound again, with bitcoin hitting about $16,500 on Saturday.

Meltem Demirors, director of the Digital Currency Group — an investment company which invests in currencies and crypto blockchain businesses — believes renewed momentum is on its way as Wall Street bonus season hits.

"If the bonuses of Wall Street on January 15 on the bank accounts countries, we will see a buying frenzy on the crypto market of epic proportions," Demirors wrote on Twitter earlier this year.

'Get ready for an explosion'
The traditional start of the year is a time when Wall Street traders can exert influence with their bonus payments, as many traders gamble with their extra income.

Mid-January bonuses likely clocked in at approximately $138,000, as can be deduced from calculations of the New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli.

Two decades ago, The New York Times wrote about about car salesmen in New York who significantly benefited from bonuses on Wall Street.

"They are young, aggressive people who are able to make decisions spontaneously," the newspaper quoted a car salesman saying at the time. "They come to see what's in inventory, and when they receive their bonus checks — bingo."

In 2018, the crypto market could get a boost from Wall Street bonuses.

"Young people have been watching from sidelines putting in a few thousand here, a few hundred there," Demirors told Business Insider Deutschland. "Bonus season and tax rebates means cash a plenty to put into crypto."

"Get ready for an explosion."

I think this is not true. 22% is too much. Maybe 22% of americans that invest on Bitcoin. Because in other places is too
expensive to borrow money and it would be way more expensive to borrow money to buy Bitcoin.
2219  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: starting with 0 - travel diary in the trading world on: January 09, 2018, 04:11:46 AM
I start to do the same on Bitstamp because the value that I have there was just to low and it is funny how you can win so many times when you are not so afraid to make some shit. It was less them 5 dollars from earn.com and know is 50. Unfurtaly I know that I would never be able to do the same with more money. I would probably lose everything
2220  Economy / Speculation / Re: Prophecy: the price of bitcoin will rise to $1 million in 20 years on: January 09, 2018, 04:07:22 AM
20 years?

One year ago it was 1k. In the end of this year could be 100k or 1k again. This is crazy. But what is crazier is to think we will still have a dollar in 20 years from now. Wake up. If Bitcoin hit 1 million that means he defeated gold as the store of value and another crypto will be used as a currency.
