22101  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: People that buy/sell bitcoin on: June 16, 2015, 05:33:25 AM
I am wondering how this works...I see people say they make a good living doing this but you must need a good amount of coin to make this work.
Anyone that does this give me some insight into how this works? Huh
you have to keep a couple of things in mind:
1) if other people are making money or huge amounts of money by trading bitcoin/usd it doesn't mean you can do start doing this without any prior experience.
2) do some research about exchangers that you want to put your money in. use google search and also search in the forum for their announcement threads and problems that people ran into with those exchangers.

p.s. i personally like trading altcoins since i am better at it rather than trading bitcoin, besides i was able to make more from trading alts.
22102  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Best way to earn Bitcoins? on: June 16, 2015, 05:28:21 AM
Make an "investment" site and scam people(best way i guess)  Tongue  just kidding hehe
I think alt-coin trading is good, i heard a lot of positive feedbacks about it and they're making good profits there
Haven't tried it yet but i will in the future..
trading altcoins is the best way to multiply your investments. just take a look at the price history of altcoins throughout history. there is always pumps, an many times there are huge 200%-300% profits.

but it is not simple and you can not just start trading and gain those profits, but it can be learnt. you just have to have patience and invest your time first.
22103  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is in deep trouble. Litecoin to take its place soon. on: June 16, 2015, 05:11:23 AM
I just rolled out of litecoin at .00855, looking for a little more downturn before the next wave up which could be moonish.

yeah we are due another leg down. but i don't think for a second that this is the end of the rally. LTC, scam coin as it is, has moon written all over it right now. so i got bids placed, and i'm getting my space suit on. Cheesy
i agree, i don't think this is the end of the rally. it is going to go higher that this. so i am holding for higher cash-out price. and it is already up to 0.0086 and looking good for the moment.
but we have to be careful for the crush Cheesy
22104  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why are we rising? (speculation) on: June 16, 2015, 05:04:36 AM
if you look at the big picture the price is not really rising. it is just back at the price which it were two weeks ago. but it is still good to see the price at a somewhat fixed range of $220-$230.

ps. just wait a couple of days and we can see trolls coming up with bitcoin is dying again Cheesy

what do you mean not rising?

and when you mention big picture, are you also referring to 6 years starting mark at price or no.
i meant if you look at the price change in the last couple of weeks. it had somewhat similar changes, the price goes down ~$15 and then comes back up ~$10 and then goes down ~$10 and again goes back up ~$12.
all i am saying is that, if price goes past these small changes then we can call it rising.
22105  Economy / Speculation / Re: What do you expect from the halving in 2016? on: June 16, 2015, 04:59:41 AM
i say the "hype" alone will affect the bitcoin price significantly. as you can tell by the comments and topics on the matter, people mostly agree on a price jump as a result of halving.
and also not to forget about what happened in the past, what impact the last block halving had on the price will happen again.
22106  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: need help installing bitcoin-core on ubuntu [offline] on: June 16, 2015, 04:50:38 AM
TL;DR; i downloaded the 64bit version of bitcoin-core on my 64bit ubuntu !

my problem was as simple as this Smiley

here is what happened.
because i had 32bit version of ubuntu 9.10, i downloaded the 32bit version of bitcoin-core. but on ubuntu 9.10 i got library missing error. so i decided to download the latest version so i downloaded ubuntu 14.4.2 but used the same bitcoin-core which was 32bit version
the stupidest thing is, apparently you can not run 32bit version of the file on a 64bit version OS on linux without doing some extra stuff!!!!

22108  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How many of you are trading shit coins? on: June 15, 2015, 03:40:12 PM
i have been a little lazy lately and missed a lot of good opportunities in the market. but before i was looking for these shitcoins and whatever pump coin i could find and ride the tides for profit.

i don't care about the lack of development or having it, i love to see an altcoin with these features but as long as my investment goes, i don't care about any of that.
22109  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: need help installing bitcoin-core on ubuntu [offline] on: June 15, 2015, 03:06:38 PM
~~
For a true offline/online solution look into Armory and I believe a similar solution is available from Electrum as well.
~~
Not trying to deter you, but since you say you're not familiar with Linux, have a look at other options and learn about them.
since i am currently using electrum, i created another one on my linux and it was easy and successful. i think i am going to use that for cold storage.
i mostly want to become more familiar with linux, that is why i chose this option. and as for bitcoin-core i just wanted the main client that's all.

You will need to be online to do this, so connect your computer to Wi-fi or ethernet. ~~
thanks for the help, but the whole reason for what i am doing is to create an offline wallet, with me just copying a wallet installation file there.

@knightdk, It's not clear from OP that he downloaded a source tarball, he may have the binaries in there and just not know how to run them, he only says that ./bitcoin-qt returns an error (he doesn't say what error).  Ie, he may not need to build, he may just need to make his binary execurable.

Also, "make install" probably requires root elevation.

@OP:

Code:
$chmod +x bitcoin-qt

But more seriously, you have to actually post what the error messages are if you want someone to help you.  I have to say it again and again on these forums: there are people who know how to read those messages even if you don't---post them here if you want real help.  Saying "I got an error" is too vague.
sorry about that, you are right.
i followed these steps except for the "wget" part which i downloaded tar.gz file from bitcoin.org and transferred it with my USB flash drive and after typing "./bitcoin-qt" i get:
Ubuntu 14.4.2
Code:
bash: ./bitcoin-qt: No such file or directory
and also "$chmod +x bitcoin-qt" returns:
Code:
+x: command not found

22110  Other / Off-topic / Re: Bitcoin and Porn on: June 15, 2015, 02:25:13 PM
Actually Its very good decision or not have to think about this for BTC image because BTC is the part of very huge World Financial Organisation. Yea it's very good for business but for goodwill & images have to think. Some people will take this is positive decision  and some people will take negative so it's important for get well decisions.
i think if big porn websites start accepting bitcoin and actually accepting bitcoin becomes a popular thing, then we can see a huge number of people start using bitcoin just because of that.
22111  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bank Of Hungary – Issued Warning For Crypto Currencies on: June 15, 2015, 02:21:35 PM
as the article says, investing in bitcoin or any crypto for that matter has high risks but has big rewards at the same time. well this is stating the obvious, but i guess many people might not know this, especially people who want to get into bitcoin for the first time.
and the rest although claiming that bitcoin is not pyramid scheme, it talks about it!!
22112  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: need help installing bitcoin-core on ubuntu [offline] on: June 14, 2015, 01:05:47 PM

Maybe if you could let us know what you are trying to achieve?

There are offline/online solutions like Armory, but Bitcoin Core is generally not considered one of them. If you are trying to generate keys only and then sweep them later, there are easier ways to do that.
yes i am trying to make an offline / cold storage with bitcoin core.
is it not possible to do this with bitcoin core?
if not what are the easier / better options?
22113  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / need help installing bitcoin-core on ubuntu [offline] on: June 14, 2015, 12:51:38 PM
(i am not familiar with ubuntu or any kind of linux that much)

i am trying to install bitcoin core on an offline ubuntu.

so far i have downloaded this file: https://bitcoin.org/bin/bitcoin-core-0.10.2/bitcoin-0.10.2-linux64.tar.gz
extracted the package on ubuntu but the file "bitcoin-qt" located in bin folder is not an executable file.

i don't know hot to install this.
my search results are either how to install from ppa or upgrading from an older version
what should i do?

found this: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=84800.msg937554#msg937554
but
Code:
./bitcoin-qt
returns an error
22114  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: is there any good open source bot for trading altcoin? on: June 14, 2015, 11:54:01 AM
I seen one on Github and saved the URL but I am not at home to give you the exact link right now sorry..
I found at least 3 when I searched Google like a year or two ago..
can you give me the URL please?
and i wanted user's feedback on bots that they have used, i found a couple in google search so far but all looks abandoned and incomplete. sometimes with bugs.

there are a few abandoned ones hiding in these forums somewhere that you might be able to revive and get working.... as for active AND oss, dont think so. I've heard good things about the quantalo (sp?) trade bot that just makes you maintain a balance of their coin to use, but I have not used it myself.

[edit] this one I have used and might be a good basis if you wanted to make your own.
thanks but it is written in python. and i don't know it at all. Sad
22115  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is there any possibility to hit the Litecoin price @ $600 ? on: June 14, 2015, 11:48:10 AM
the litecoin market is looking so good right now, but this doesn't mean that litecoin is going to continue this upward motion and rise that high.
maybe if bitcoin price went through the roof, then litecoin could become more expensive but that is not going to happen.
22116  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: New to Alt-Coins after leaving BTC behind years ago. Any advice? on: June 14, 2015, 11:44:21 AM
if you want something promising enough that you can invest and "fully go behind." the only option is bitcoin that you have left behind.
this is a good time in the bitcoin price for you to get back in.
and as far as altcoin, if you want something promising you are not going to find it anywhere. but if you want to profit, a lot of coins like litecoin are coming back from the dead and giving good profits.
22117  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Altcoin Trading June - will I be able to make profit? on: June 14, 2015, 11:31:38 AM
that is why there are conditional trade offers available.
for example you place condition that if the price changes XX% then buy or sell. this way you can be safe even when you are asleep.

and don't worry about losses, i did that with NLG (i think) i bought at 600 just to see it fall to 400 and then gave up on it Cheesy

What's conditional trade? Can you give me example? Do YoBit.Net offer conditional trade? What about Bittrex? Thank you for sharing your tip.
all the trading websites that i have seen so far had conditional trades so far. but i have never checked yobit

it means that you place a condition for your trades.
for example you say if the price of bitcoin goes lower than $210 then sell 10BTC for price of $209.9
or if the price goes higher than $250 sell 10BTC for price of $249.9

the exchanger's bot for these kind of conditional trades mostly have enough for all purposes but , other bots may have better and more options.
22118  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Wallets with providers on: June 14, 2015, 09:01:09 AM
I think the best way will be to store your coins offline. Only get them out when needed, otherwise keep it safe in a cold-storage. Why to risk your coins by keeping all of them at one online platform.
It is a huge hassle to spend any of the coins if you are looking to store everything offline. If you want, you can store a majority of them offline. You can still store them on your mobile phone or desktop computer. Sure they may not be as safe as cold storage but if you do take security precautions, you can easily make it as secure as any offline cold storage.
the important thing is to keep whichever wallet you choose, safe. you have to keep your bitcoins that are not going to use in short term in cold storage to keep it safe for the future, lets say a couple of years later.
the rest you can keep in an online wallet or a lightweight wallet that lets you spend then with ease.
22119  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: paying no transaction fee on: June 14, 2015, 08:49:47 AM

If you are using the blockchain.info wallet, they will wait a few days for the transaction to confirm. If it has not confirmed yet after a few days have passed, they will stop broadcasting the transaction to the rest of the network, and will show you your balance as if you had never sent the transaction in the first place.  If you then send a new transaction that re-uses the same inputs, the address will be labeled in their block explorer web pages as having been associated with a "double spend".

if the transaction is not confirmed by ~2 days then they stop broadcasting it for a short time i have not take the exact time it takes, but it is not more that 15 minutes. EDIT: i checked my email, and apparently it is 1 hour gap.
then the same transaction will be re-broadcasted again.

the balance is restored in that 15 minute gap and you can double spend it.

also you will receive an email indicating that the transaction is failed.
Quote
Transaction Confirmation Failed

A transaction made through Blockchain.info has been removed from our database because it was taking a long time to be included in a block.

Any funds have been returned to your wallet and you can now spend the coins again. Please consider including a larger fee in future transactions.
after this it will be re-broadcasted to the network
22120  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What does Bitcoin mean to you (A poll) on: June 14, 2015, 08:32:16 AM
For me, bitcoin is an easier way to send money and a quick way to become rich Grin. I use bitcoin to invest and receive money from online activity. And it's anonymous so there is no terror that come to me after i receive payment or anything. Wink
the days of becoming rich quick through bitcoin is over now. the price is staying the same for a long time and looks like it is not going to change anytime soon.
