Appreciate the reward but if you have a limited amount of it it's probably best saving it for lower ranks who need it more than I do.
Merit is meant to highlight good posts and restrict spammers, so I don't exclude higher ranks. I've never been out of sMerit to give, and I'm having a really hard time handing out more than I receive (probably because I give only 1 most of the time).

I also think that the merit system is good in theory but can be improved.
For example in the local sections there are very few merit sources.
That's a community effort: someone has to step up and apply to be a merit source.

Quote
84 sources for 2 mln users.
Less than 1% of those 2 million users has received Merit.

Quote
If you can live in the real world you can accept the merit system Grin
There is such a system: some get paid more than others in the real world. Sometimes it's deserved, sometimes it isn't.

@LoyceV we also have a representative for being a merit source in our local, Is it true that it takes a lot of time to review the applicant to be accepted?
Mine took about 3 months, some were much faster, and some are still waiting.

Of the 447 average that sign up per day, I'd bet 400 of them are a combination of bots, shitposters (airdroppers and sig campaigners), and people who otherwise don't give a damn about anything other than how to get "free money."
It took 42 days to go from 2200000 to 2300000 user accounts. That's over 2000 new accounts per day, 16,000 per week. Last week, only 241 users received Merit for the first time, and most of them were old accounts already.

In my opinion, even if all 84 merit sources worked hard and efficiently, they have still alsmot been unable to catch all high quality threads to give their smerits away.
Good threads are hard to find because there are so many bad posts. But from what I've seen, I don't think many good threads get overlooked.
22142  Economy / Reputation / Re: This forum is a clear example of power abuse on: August 16, 2018, 07:40:56 PM
Since I'm mentioned in the OP, I'll respond.
First: Me being on DT2 has nothing to do with my signature campaign. Being on DT2 is not something I asked for, it just happened. I do appreciate it though, as it gives me the chance to make this forum better. If you want to discuss me any further, please do it in LoyceV's reputation thread.

Now back to Coolcryptovator:
Not only they are not doing it, they are even supporting it with LoyceV being a good example, which accepted this shitposter in a so called high merit signature.
I think Findingnemo makes a good point:
Wrong grammar is not equal to shit posting.

I do check all participants before accepting anybody in a campaign, and of course I noticed Coolcryptovator's English level. But I also noticed he's intelligent, and puts effort into his posts. Just yesterday, after closing the campaign, I discussed this with him. If he can improve his English, I think he has a lot of potential on this forum.

Isn't this forum a clear example of power abuse by a few selected few ?
I'm not sure which "power" I allegedly abused by accepting him into my campaign.
I gave anyone a full month to get paid from reporting spam in my campaign:
Report spammers
If you find anyone in this campaign breaking the rules, please report him/her to me. If I agree, he's out without pay, and I'll pay you 0.001BTC. You don't need to be in the campaign to report spam.
Nobody reported anything.
22143  Other / Meta / Re: Merit? This got to be a joke. on: August 16, 2018, 02:31:26 PM
The number of sources probably needs to be greatly adjusted ~
I see lots of posts that I'd like to merit but I just run out of merit within minutes.
Why don't you apply to be a merit source? See this post.

You're not a spammer, so in my opinion you shouldn't be limited by Merit. I could probably merit more of your posts, but I'm kinda busy at the moment with something else (and the forum is terribly slow today) Tongue

If reporting doesn't lead to a ban and just a deleted post...that's one lost battle.
I still regret wasting my time on this. My list of homograph spamming Newbie bump bots has 75 more new users in 3 days, and I'd love to get them all nuked, but reporting one by one failed.
I used to create a thread in Meta, make a title like Mods, nuke 120 accounts, and in my last thread Mod BitRentX went at it until he hit his nuke-limit.
22145  Other / Meta / Re: This is bad on: August 16, 2018, 10:16:52 AM
Don't quote long posts!

What's wrong with asking what courses to do or how to learn blockchain
Low effort posting isn't allowed. Search a bit before just advertising your signature.

Quote
Yes, I do lack initiative
If you know that already, and post useless posts anyway, how can you not expect to be called a shitposter?

Quote
but that doesn't mean i will never become good at it
What do you expect? Credit for posts you may make 4 years from now?

Quote
You can talk your mind but there has to be some consequences a person has to face if he talks shit.
I've seen people say much worse things on this forum. It's called freedom of speech, and that doesn't end when you feel "insulted". TMAN isn't subtle, not only to you. But if you think you can cry when someone on the internet is mean to you, you'd better grow a pair.
And for the "Rank" argument: I recently had a Jr. Member talk shit to me. Who cares?
22146  Other / Meta / Re: This is bad on: August 16, 2018, 09:57:14 AM
I have been in this forum for quiet a while
Almost 5 whole weeks!

Quote
Just because you belong to higher rank doesn't mean that you can call posts that's put up junior members and newbies as shit.
Anyone from any rank can call shitposts shit, and it doesn't matter what rank the shitposter has.

Quote
The reason we have this rank means that we are still learning and getting better.
From what I've seen, very few Newbies ever learn and get better.

Quote
You have to teach us and not abuse us.
As much as I like helping users, that's not because anyone "has to" do that.

Quote
More than anything there has to be equality in the forum
This is not a SJW forum, it's Bitcointalk. This forum gives users more freedom to post their mind than any other forum I've seen. Equality is utopian, the reality is everybody is different.

Quote
and we will have to treat everyone in the same way.
If you would read more, you'd know this forum has a huge spam problem.

Quote
Moderators have to look at this guy and ban him instantly. He not abused me by calling my post shit but he also racially abused me.
Again: read more, for instance the forum rules.
And get used to it: not everybody on the internet is nice to you. Who cares!

If you create threads like this:
Can you guys share your experience and resources to learn about the technical part of bitcoin and blockchain?
And ask questions like this:
Any particular links guys?
It's clear you lack initiative. Search a bit before dumping random questions on the forum.

22147  Economy / Reputation / Re: Suspicious signature campaign !!! on: August 16, 2018, 08:12:19 AM
That altcoin signature campaign started out on the wrong board (Services) too.

Greed makes it easy to scam people. If they would really have that much money to spend on a campaign, it would be very easy to make a credible campaign and get high quality posters. But they don't, and the thread is started by a bounty spammer.

There will be spam instead of meaningful post. Because it's not easy to make 6 constructive post per day.
You can use the thread to detect and report spammers Cheesy
22148  Other / Meta / Re: Merit? This got to be a joke. on: August 16, 2018, 06:21:43 AM
I propose 2016 for activity and Merit for this New rank, and I would go with something like "Mythical" for the name.
"More Merit than satoshi" could be a good threshold.
22149  Other / Meta / Re: Let's spam Bitcointalk - bumping services - auto-bots! on: August 15, 2018, 08:39:27 PM
If anyone wants to earn a reporter badge, knock yourself out Cheesy
Note that not all accounts on this list are spammers, so you'll have to check their post history before reporting anything.
     9. freeminds
before telling the person to check sir so is a spammer ... contact the person by yourself!
You even quoted the part where I say not all users on the list are spammers.

That being said: these lists aren't meant to contact spammers, and if they are spammers, there's absolutely no point in contacting them. They may not even be human.

Please nuke Newbie vnbot011 for plagiarism. He posted in my self-moderated topic, but I'll wait for him to be nuked.

that is a good question. and the answer is nobody knows. they don't run the same software sometimes, it usually is their own modification and they all have their own personal settings.
i have had my transaction skipped over because of seemingly having lower fee like this case of yours in the past but not so much recently.

I got Banned from displaying signatures for one year.
Wow, just wow Cheesy
Is there any public announcement on this? Since when is this option available? If this is a new thing the Mods can use, it should be widely known to scare signature spammers.
22153  Other / Meta / Re: Merit? This got to be a joke. on: August 15, 2018, 02:38:04 PM
2000+ Merit’s?
Jesus Christ, 2000+ Activity would be cool but 2000+ Merit’s is going to take people forever to achieve, if at all.
Going from 1000 to 2000 will be easier than going going from 0 to 1000. If we expect a Newbie to earn 1000 Merit to become Legendary, it's only fair to expect the same from users who received 1000 Merit in the January airdrop.
22154  Other / Meta / Re: Merit? This got to be a joke. on: August 15, 2018, 01:55:43 PM
I have suggested fixing Legendary at 960 activity and the new rank is double that at 1920. You could also make the merit requirement very high for this rank so it's only for the very highest contributors. 2000 merit would probably do as that would be very difficult to  chive and would only be likely done so by the very top percentile of contributors here.
If that's going to happen, I don't expect theymos to create it before at least a few people dozen have reached it. It wouldn't look good if theymos creates a new rank that only he holds at the moment.
In a bit more than 6 months, only 15 users have earned 500+ Merit, 38 users have 350+ and 77 users have earned 250+ Merit. At this rate, it would take those users 6, 12 or 18 months to reach 1000+ Merit, and not all of those users have enough Activity to be Legendary.
Based on this, I don't expect a new higher rank to be introduced within maybe 2 years.

This campaign ended on August 15, 2018.
I still need some time to check and count posts.

So please update when we can remove sign. Thanks

22156  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin Core default fees not ok? on: August 14, 2018, 09:06:23 PM
is there a default setting for this now?
No, it varies too much. Last December, you would need a 500 times higher fee than you need now.
I use https://coinb.in/#fees as an indication, if you go a bit higher than what the site recommends, you should see a fast confirmation most of the time.
22157  Other / Meta / Re: [CLUB]The SpamBuster!3 Cases open,over 3000 accounts, Reviewed:1800+ [09.08] on: August 14, 2018, 09:04:16 PM
You're not getting fired up to see these accounts' posts to be gone in the community, I think?
Bump bots are isolated in their own threads. Deleting the posts doesn't matter at all, as the thread was bumped and that post has served its purpose. Nobody reads the thread anyway, so it doesn't matter to the community. The bot can easily make many new posts as long as it doesn't get banned, and that's why a ban is the only thing that makes sense for those cases.
22158  Other / Meta / Re: [CLUB]The SpamBuster!3 Cases open,over 3000 accounts, Reviewed:1800+ [09.08] on: August 14, 2018, 08:06:42 PM
I gave up on trying to figure this out. If reporting the same user 20 times is what it takes I'll do that.
I give up a bit faster than that Sad
With 250 users on my homograph suspects list, each having an average of 10 to 20 posts, I'm not going to report thousands of posts. Hilariousandco was already complaining about users who suddenly started reporting a lot since theymos mentioned the Reporting badge. And it feels like a total waste of time when I'm trying to clean 200 bots from the forum, and most of them still get away with it.
22159  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin Core default fees not ok? on: August 14, 2018, 06:30:08 PM
So de dynamic fees from the core are not high enough?
Recommended fees are an estimate, based on past confirmed transactions. Fees can go up, for instance if it takes long to find a new block, or if the number of transactions goes up. If that happens, the estimate turns out to be incorrect.
When in a hurry, I manually set the fee a bit higher. Most of the time I manually set it as low as possible.

Re applying
Leaving this here:
Until yesterday, Full Member bucker steemit had not earned a single Merit.
Yesterday, he applied to a signature campaign that requires him to earn 20 Merit. Just 25 minutes later, he received 10 Merit for this post, and 4 minutes later another 10 Merit for this post. A few minutes later he updated his post to confirm: "Merit Count: 120". It took him 33 minutes in total to reach the Merit requirements.
Both accounts that sent him Merit have red trust already.
