22181  Other / Meta / Re: New type of off-topic Off Topic bots on: August 12, 2018, 02:39:12 PM
~but how can they rank up to Jr member when there is the merit system from January?
Jr. Member accounts don't need Merit (yet?).
22182  Other / Meta / Re: Merit? This got to be a joke. on: August 12, 2018, 02:22:41 PM
you missing the point smartpants. he did not get any merit because IT DID NOT EXIST BACK THEN. but he did , like you and your shitposts provided above-  gained a rank from them by sole activity count. my point is. YOU and the likes of you should be thankful that they managed to reach their position prior to merit being implemented. Cheesy
My "position" has nothing to do with my rank. My signature campaign for example would pay me exactly the same if I'd be a Sr. Member (with just 250 Merit). Of course I've made bad posts, but mosts of my posts are not bad. That isn't something you can say about the average spammer.
I wish Merit wouldn't be necessary, but it is. And even now, most posts are just spam, probably made by bots. Complaining about Merit isn't make it go away. Good posts is what this forum needs.

Quote
Also, I do not say merit is bad, I say it isnt perfect. but the problem here are people like you defending it at all costs just because it plays no role for you anymore - you've been lucky enough to not be bothered by it.
I've given 634 merit 591 times, to 318 profiles. But I've got much more accounts banned! I love seeing good posters, and Merit is how Newbies can quickly stand out.

You seem to think that old accounts got 1 merit per post. Everyone got the same fixed amount based on their rank, so e.g. I got 1000 merits for 11-12k posts. But I'd be happy to give them up if you can go through my WHOLE post history and provide conclusive proof that I couldn't have possibly earned 1000 merits in 4 years. Then repeat it for every user that existed in January 2018 and we'll sort this merit debacle out once and for all.
If you put it this way, jenia2 has a point: many of the current high ranking members haven't earned much Merit. And someone who hasn't earned much Merit since January, wouldn't have earned 1000 Merit in 4 years either. So yes, there's a windfall for old accounts, just like people who own Bitcoin for many years have a windfall.
That doesn't mean Merit is bad, it only means it should have been implemented sooner. But better late than never!
22183  Other / Meta / Re: Merit? This got to be a joke. on: August 12, 2018, 02:11:15 PM
I did consider suggesting your account but I think you'll like the one I picked.   Wink
I do, but it doesn't qualify, as satoshi is not a Hero or Legendary account Tongue But he already earned more than enough Merit to become Legendary, without making a single post Cheesy

not a merit worthy post#1
not a merit worthy post#2
not a merit worthy post#3
Your claim was to "provide 5 random shitposts". We can agree those posts aren't worth any Merit, and guess what: they didn't get any! But they're valuable posts, and right to the point.

Can you provide links to the posts?
Code:
[quote author=https://bitcointalk.org/index...........]post[/quote]

Thanks for the faucet memories Cheesy I disagree on your first one, it's ontopic and to the point. The second one (my sixth post on Bitcointalk!) is a shitpost indeed. I've deleted it.
22184  Other / Meta / Re: Merit? This got to be a joke. on: August 12, 2018, 01:52:18 PM
You choose the account, ill provide 5 random shitposts.
Pick me. I'm curious what you come up with.
22185  Economy / Securities / Re: LoyceV's Legendary 10 Month 10 Person 10 Altcoin Investment DEPOSIT TIME ROUND 2 on: August 12, 2018, 01:46:40 PM
Thanks for the 8 (including myself Tongue) fast deposits. We're only waiting for 2 more users to deposit: DogecoinMachine and bill gator.
I've sent them a PM.
22186  Other / Meta / Re: 2 suggestions to eliminate bumping services & the spam being encouraged in Anns on: August 12, 2018, 01:28:03 PM
1) Make it so that posts from lower ranked members don't bump the thread to the top (ideally up to Member)
Only for certain boards, right? A Newbie with a serious question should still get the attention he needs.

Quote
2) Get rid of the Announcement board completely and instead charge ICOs a fee to list here and once they do they get their own sub board in the Alt Coin section.
That could lead to hundreds of different sub boards, assuming all the ANN-spammers have the budget to pay the fee.

Quote
ICOs should probably be paying a fee to list here anyway. They get a crazy amount of advertising for free
On top of that, some threads pay up to $1000 per week for bump spam. They have high funding and earn millions, let them pay to improve the forum instead of the other way around.

Quote
Money raised can either go to hiring more staff to combat spam or given to charity.
It could even be burned, as a gift to all Bitcoin owners. But it's probably best to use it to improve the forum. The amounts they spend on bump bots could pay for full-time moderation.

  • Merits shouldn't awarded to the post made on ANN threads.
  • Posts in the ANN threads should not counted as an activity.
I disagree with both points. Some posts in ANN-threads deserve merit (example), and the merit traders will just pollute other boards for their business. The same will happen if they can't earn activity there. Lack of Merit is what should stop them from ranking up, not lack of Activity.

2) I prefer to offer 2 alternatives :
First one : ICO don't pay anything but the manager has to open a self-moderated topic and like the wall observer topic, all reports go to the manager and he is obliged to remove the spam or else the topic will get trashed.
This won't work. Bump spam has accomplished it's goal, even if it gets deleted within a few minutes. Even worse: the ANN-threads that are self-moderated, (ab)use that power to delete bump spam to make it less noticeable. The bump bots used to do that on their own, but can't delete their own posts within 24 hours anymore (this restriction was created to stop bump bots).

Silver membership cost 0.02BTC to enable starting a new topic in ANN board.
The payment should be per thread, as the amount of spam increases with each additional thread.
And I don't think it should be a special rank that makes the account look better than it is.
22187  Economy / Reputation / Re: Obvious cheater is Obvious on: August 12, 2018, 10:36:10 AM
Campaign mangers shouldn't be letting merit do their job for them.
True. But it makes the campaign manager's job a lot easier. Without Merit, I wouldn't accept any Members, as going through their posts is 95% of the time a waste of my time. One of the main problems causing spam, is lazy campaign managers. If using Merit can make some of them reject low quality posters, that's a win for the forum.
Having Merit isn't enough though, it has to be earned, which can be checked quickly.

Quote
Someone could make great posts initially just to get the merit then turn into a complete shitposter once accepted.
I barely see that, unless the account has been hacked or sold. If that happens, they should be kicked out of course.

Quote
I see plenty of decent or even great posters that have little to no merit
I haven't noticed this much, but this would mean the Merit system fails to do what it's supposed to do.

I stumbled upon this:
Don't you think your campaign prices are too low? Me, Sr.Member get for 10 posts a week only about $ 28 at current prices? Just $ 280 for a 10-week campaign? It's small..
It's someone with generic posts, and a bounty spammer. For 1112 posts, he earned received 1 Merit.
He's complaining $2.80 per post is low! If that means spamming bounties pays more (although in Tokens created out of thin air) for useless posts, it explains why so many of them are spamming this forum.
22188  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoins disappeared on: August 12, 2018, 09:57:04 AM
You should take a few precautions (post #3 in that thread) and then update electrum. What you are seeing is a bug in older versions of the software. Also in future  ask electrum related questions in the electrum subforum: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=98.0
Read this post again Smiley
22189  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoins disappeared on: August 12, 2018, 09:41:30 AM
The wallet was having trouble synchronizing and i had to update the version i was using to 2.9.3 from 2.7.3. Now that i have done that it still hasn't come through and showing my funds are in my wallet.
You are using a very old (and vulnerable) wallet. The latest version is Electrum 3.2.2.
Why did you "update" to another old version? When downloading, make sure to use the official website only.
22190  Other / Off-topic / Re: Administrator, Moderator, Donetor Profile Here on: August 12, 2018, 08:44:47 AM
Is it Donetor, Donator or Donater?

I felt like Loyce after posting all these username with links, whew.
Is that a good or a bad feeling?

Moderator: Flying Hellfish
Position : Politics & Society

You can make this list a lot shorter if you add the link to the name. Example:
Moderator: Flying Hellfish Board: Politics & Society
22191  Other / Meta / Re: Merrit? This got to be a joke. on: August 12, 2018, 07:50:08 AM
Why are the Newbie zombie spambots in this thread not nuked yet? I've reported one saying this: "There's a plague of Newbie accounts in the last 2 pages of this thread, writing generic shitposts, rewriting other posts, or it's just a word-mixing-bot. Many accounts were created on the same date, all spamming in a similar manner. Please check the thread, and nuke all that deserve it." (I don't usually create reports this long)
Let's see what happens.
The one I reported got nuked. Some other spamposts are gone too, but not all.
22192  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Watch-only Address / Private key on: August 11, 2018, 09:15:10 PM
What is watch only address and from where i can get my private keys in blockchain to transfer the bitcoins to other account?
Before answering more, can you tell me why you're asking this? Does this apply to you?

Quote
Does the non-spendable bitcoins can be used?
Yes, but only by the owner of the private key. I guess that's not you.
22193  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Bounties (Altcoins) / Re: [OPEN] BITCORE BTX Signature Campaign - Hero/Legendary Members - $50/week on: August 11, 2018, 08:59:32 PM
No avatar only option this time? :/
Considering we went with a fixed amount of $50 I'd only be able to offer the avatar only option for like.. $15 per week :/. Also considering there's only 20 participants we'd like to maximize the exposure. However, I'll talk to the team and see if we can't expand it with a few spots open to avatar only participants at a low rate Smiley
Did anything come out of talking to the team? I'd like to wear the avatar, but I'm not willing to remove my current signature.

I've liked BitCore for quite a while, had a hard time compiling the wallet in a VM, and later switched to using Coinomi. I've followed the airdrops, and saw the price drop 95% from $30 to the current value.
I'm still holding my BTX, and wouldn't mind promoting it a bit more Wink I think it's safe to say I meet the posting requirements. I've been wearing my current avatar for free (well, except for the well-paying signature) for many months, and would like to use just the avatar to increase my BitCore hodlings.
22194  Economy / Lending / Re: Need Small Loan - 0.002BTC >> Repaying Tomorrow on: August 11, 2018, 06:51:27 PM
The only thing I can think of is contacting Vod if you really wish to. It seems he created a design for Vod a little while ago, and left a negative rep saying he wasn't paid (it was a contest for design win, so I'm assuming it was a misunderstanding on his part, not on Vod's). I couldn't find any mention in the thread, but Vod may have a PM history with him.
That's very unlikely.
It's much more likely he left (fake) retaliation feedback, 2 days after Vod left him this: "Promoting a ponzi. Trying to steal money from the community."

I would never trust a ponzi scammer with money!
22195  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 11, 2018, 06:16:45 PM
$250 move-up in 3 minutes. Wink
I often notice the following pattern in the Bitcoin price: it's quite stable for hours to days, moving sideways, then suddenly it drops or shoots up in a more or less straight line. After that, it continues moving sideways.
How can that be? I can only think its being manipulated by some whale(s) keepingt he price stable until they need change. If there's a different explanation, I'd like to hear it.
22196  Other / Meta / Re: Merrit? This got to be a joke. on: August 11, 2018, 06:13:01 PM
I find it highly annoying when people complain about merit, and they haven't bothered to spell check the word.
Google: Did you mean: merritt

I talk in my sleep, and and my wife asked me who is that Merrit I am talking to whole night, I didn't know what to say, she asked me am I cheating her with Merrit and finally I had to tell her about my relationship with Merrit.
That leaves only one solution: she should sign up too, and share your relationship with Merrit.

Any post or thread about merit where it complains about it should be deducted the creator of the complain 1 Merit,
and if he does not have any then there are minus merits!
But.... Among all the serious posts, I love to be able to show some sarcasm once in a while! Merit turned out to be the best way to do so Cheesy

Actually paying one merit to start any thread (not just merit-related) might be a good idea.
If that would have been implemented from the start, I would have lost 31 Merit. A small price to pay for a cleaner forum! And, on average, I've earned much more Merit per thread, which would make 1 Merit per thread a good investment.

Why are the Newbie zombie spambots in this thread not nuked yet? I've reported one saying this: "There's a plague of Newbie accounts in the last 2 pages of this thread, writing generic shitposts, rewriting other posts, or it's just a word-mixing-bot. Let's see what happens.
22197  Other / Meta / Re: Real Bounty Campaign VS Fake or Scam on: August 11, 2018, 05:35:07 PM
Lol. Bounty spammers have demands now.

But you can impose certain kind of terms on bounty campaign Lister
How about restrictions on bounty spammers like yourself? You could start by no longer thinking of this as "work".
A forum isn't meant to give you free money for spamming.

But I do like your suggestion: let's close the entire altcoin board! That should be enough of a restriction to stop all fake ICOs.

I suggest to try to follow the campaigns of these anti-spam bounty managers.
OP won't be accepted in any anti-spam campaign.
22198  Other / Meta / Re: Mod, please check new plagiarism: Reporting copy/pasting, please permban on: August 11, 2018, 02:36:48 PM
Two weeks ago, I reported 2 Russian accounts for plagiarism, but they didn't get banned.
I'll post them again, Staff member Xal0lex confirmed it's plagiarism.

While I have your attention Xal0lex, can you have a look at these two cases? There were ignored in my plagiarism-thread, probably because the Global Mod can't read them:
