2221  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Poll: Who should acquire & bailout MtGox? on: February 27, 2014, 11:07:58 PM
Why would anyone buy MtGox?
This would be a mistake for the buyer.
The buyer would probably pay a symbolic price of 1 dollar to Mark Karpeles, and promises to settle all client funds with cash.
The true cost for the buyer would land on 100-500 million dollars as we don't know exactly how much money and bitcoin they miss.

What do the buyer gain when buying MtGox? They get 1 million clients, most of them are verified.

As I mentioned Facebook paid 19 billion dollars for WhatsApp, so 500 millions for the no.1 bitcoin exchange is peanuts.

they were once #1, but were #3 when they dropped out of the race, don't forget most of the numbers were fudged anyway so they were probably not #3 either.

as for what Facebook they have lots of cash but not so much income, they have to spend the cash to generate income, preferable on things that fit with their business model.  I can't see an exchange fitting in, although I can see they using btc.   nevertheless, how they choose to value something should not be how you choose to value it.

2222  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Poll: Who should acquire & bailout MtGox? on: February 27, 2014, 11:02:47 PM
I had a hard time deciding on none or who I felt would be a good target to stick with the burned brand next.

the best thing is for it to be a community owned endeavor with 100% transparency, and block chain accountability and secuirty, meaning that every satoshi is accounted for every second of the way.  the name would have to be changed, to protect the innocent, of course
2223  Economy / Exchanges / Re: How to pronounce "MtGox"? on: February 27, 2014, 10:45:29 PM
if you really want to know how it is pronounced, I suggest you ask some cardplaying people...
mt. is usually the abbreviation for "mountain", but here it is obvious, that it stands for "Magic The..." ("...Online Exchange).
Here in Vienna we have a nice example of abbreviations pronounced differently than it is supposed. There is a big busline company which is called "DrRichard" which is written on the sides of the busses. Also in german "Dr." before a persons name gives you a "doctor". Well itsjust that the founders first name wasnt as much as promising as a title. His name is "Dragan"...

Long story short - it´s "em-tea gox".

don´t you worry too much. In 12 weeks there will be no more need for this knowledge anyway.

Mt Gox is a permenant fixture in bitcoin history, not just for the bad but also for the good, from the logo, site, and exchange existence.
He's young and likely has a million btc socked away in cold storage.  And even if he doesn't, with his intelligence he could amass another million before the end of the year starting now from $0
2224  Economy / Economics / Re: Market Rate Essentially Flat Past 8 hrs on: February 27, 2014, 10:35:41 PM
Like on April 2013, we're in a post-goxing period... it will stay flat till the next "event" that will make it go up or down. Question is which event will be? Another China/Cyprus or another government ban?

so how much do you think btc's value is attributed to hype? if you were to strip away all of the hype would the rate be higher or lower?
2225  Economy / Economics / Market Rate Essentially Flat Past 8 hrs on: February 27, 2014, 09:17:31 PM
wow, I can't believe it, I'm ready to buy or sell if the market would just make a substantial move in either direction, but it keeps making tiny moves in alternate directions, I have not seen this all year (well for two months, ok)

any thoughts on what's keeping things flat?
2226  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Accepting Bitcoin as Payment at Your Business — Good Idea or Bad? on: February 27, 2014, 09:05:57 PM
redtea, are you interested in debate on bitcointalk, or just advertising your own web site?

I'm happy to talk with you here but I'm never going to visit your web site, so if you could let me know if that's your intention I can just put you on ignore.

that, my friends is Newbie on Newbie hate

I sell ecigs on the weekend at a flea market, my sign has the visa/mc/amex logo and a big we accept bitcoin logo, I had a woman say kind of rudely you should not accept that its not real currency, I chuckled and said I used to get 3 bitcoin per starter kit normally $45 (quite a few bitcoins made btw), I sold them for $1000 each. Shut her right the fuck up and she kept walking.

Concentrate on the Mantra question.

What is a FALSE FLAG operation?

9-11 was a falseflag. bitcoin is a falseflag.

2229  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Exchanges - The Future on: February 27, 2014, 07:22:29 PM
We don't need exchanges to get into bitcoins by swapping out dollars. We have reached a tipping point where it is now possible for the miners who own the original bitcoins to spend their bitcoins. This will put them into general circulation. The whole purpose of bitcoin is not to rely on a centalized financial corporation such as a bank or exchange. Just a year ago, there was no place to spend your bitcoins. Now, you can rent a yacht in Miami, buy a car or Harley in Dallas, buy a mansion in Las Vegas, stay in a hotel in Las Vegas, and fill your house with stuff you buy off of Overstock.com. Then, buy some jewelry on Overstock.com and give the gems away as party favors for attractive women who'll show up at your bikini party and voila! Bitcoins are now in circulation with no need for exchanges.

Those miners just need to loosen their wallets in exchange for booze, boats, and fun loving women.

you speak in a vacuum

I don't know about all of the rest of the btc accepters but I do know for a fact that Overstock uses Coinbase to process their transactions, they accept btc on the site and coinbase processes the transaction such that overstock receives fiat in their bank the next day.  They are considering holding some btc but as a business model it is most difficult to do because the currency is so volatile.

here's another vacuum for you

let's say there is a national blackout, you have all of your money in btc, how do you buy anything?  btc is dependent on the internet which in turn is dependent on electricity
even if you have batteries and you have a phone running on solar power and you can access your computer, there's no internet, other people in your country can't do transactions with you, and even if they could rest assured NO ONE is accepting anything other than cash or gold during an emergency.

btc has a loooooooong way to go in a real world, for now it's rapid growth is tied to it's convertibility from or into fiat (refer to overstock example). Without the fiat component it would be a very slow climb.

Guys,

Dont u think we're just wasting our time to mining bitcoins? I read latest new the Mt Gox will declare bankruptcy  Cry

think of it this way, if Bank of America (one of the largest US banks) went out of business tomorrow cause much turmoil for its investors and account holders, what would happen to the USD?  The answer is next to nothing.    The reasons for that is BoA doesn't control all of the US currency, likewise Mt Gox didn't control Bitcoin when it left the scene.

do you mine bitcoin?
2231  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Exchanges - The Future on: February 27, 2014, 06:16:19 PM
I'm curious, following the debacle at Gox I wondered what people's thoughts were on the future of bitcoin exchanges?

It seems to me that we need to move away from the centralized model ala Gox, CoinBase, Stamp and into a more decentralized space not only from a regulatory stand-point but also due to the trust issue of having funds held by a corporation which operates much like a bank but without the stringent anti-fraud measures.

Would a decentralized exchange still need to comply with government financial regulation if they weren't touching fiat directly? Why is it we are seeing so many more centralized exchanges being setup over their decentralized siblings - is it purely profitablity?

Any musings would be greatly appreciated.

An hour ago I was of the understanding that all cryptocurrency exchanges were agent facilitators (brokers/agents) but after reading the CoinBase agreement I learned that they are are NOT agents or brokers, that they do not act as third parties FOR the buyer and seller but rather they are both buyer and seller TO their customer(s).

I know stamp is a P2P facilitator, and Cryptsy is a brokerage exchange, I don't know what Mt Gox was

Nevertheless we need more of all types of trustworthy exchanges who operate with integrity.

Kindly tell me what a "decentralized exchange" is?

2232  Economy / Service Discussion / Does Anyone Have A Copy Of Any Mt Gox User Agreement on: February 27, 2014, 05:55:18 PM
I'd like to take a look at a Mt Gox cryptocurrency user agreement

I'd like to know what type of exchange they purported to operate.

I'm just now realizing there are many different types of cryptocurrency exchanges

thanks
2233  Economy / Exchanges / Re: How to pronounce "MtGox"? on: February 27, 2014, 05:16:56 PM

Based on the video, you either read what you see Mt Gox = Mount Gox
or you say the acronym MTGOX  (Magic The Gathering Online Exchange) = MTGOX or M.T.G.O.X.   (Like we say FBI)

either way 'M T Gox' would be an illogical and inappropriate language usage unless Mt Gox identified themselves as such (which they didn't, see logo).

"Mt Gox" is pronounced "Bastards!"

2234  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: 2000$ to invest, right now? on: February 27, 2014, 04:55:08 PM
Use this calculator to see if it's worth it.

http://mining.thegenesisblock.com

Also take into account how long it'll take to get to you and setting it up to mine.

I dumped $7k into building my rigs. I would've made more if I just bought $7k worth of coins. Plus my electricity bills are $3k per quarter. So yeah, I'd buy coins instead.

Hope that helps. =)

you gave no consideration for any real potential loss of btc

for example if the money was in Mt Gox, or BitInstant

not to mention if it was up it too high like those who invested in btc at anything over 900, the money is essentially trapped, that could eat away at you.

2235  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Forum Activity stuck on: February 27, 2014, 03:01:15 PM
My forum Activity stuck on 112 last 30 days. I very often on the forum, and last 7 days i have over 100 posts, but activity is frozen on 112.
I heard from a few people that have the same problem.

Activity only gets updated once every 2 weeks and will increase by a maximum of 14 each time if you've exceeded an average of 1 post per day for more than 14 days.

"Activity" should be a code that more accurately reflects ranges of participation, for example:

AAAA - 1st 'A' means year+ forum member, 2nd 'A' means posted every month in current calendar year, 3rd 'A' means posted x range of post this week, and the 4th 'A' means they posted multiple times today.

so:

AFFF - would mean you're an old lazy fart,
ADDF - would mean meds are overdue

The activity code only serves to annoy and or confuse it should be removed.

May I know any discount for mass ordering ?

Thanks for your question, I:
1) only have 30 of them
2) prefer to do them individually
3) would provide a max discount of 25%

now why in the hell would you prefer to do them individually?  that's more work for you and a hell of a lot of margin eaten up by shipping

Shipping?  what shipping?  they are e-shipped that means email.

As for wanting to do them individually, I need to make sure that you know the whole process and what you must go though to get your codes, it's not like you just scratch and type.  You have to go to the Apple site, complete the online form, then they send you the code.  I know because I went through it.  Before I take on the hassle of going through it again, I rather sell them at a discount, or just hold them until I'm up for the hassle.

As for your most recent statement, the cards don't expire.

wow, so you're selling itunes gift codes with nothing physical to back them up at 80% face value?

also, your explanation as to why you wouldn't sell them in bulk is nonsensical.  why would you want to deal with all that hassle?

What's the wow about, if the terms somehow seem uninviting let it go.  I'm here thinking I'm doing the community a favor, if that's not how it's received let it go.  Eventually I'll pay someone on staff to communicate with Apple over and over again to get 100% of the value then give them away via an Armis promotion.

My process apparently doesn't make enough sense to you to follow my direction, so I recommend you simply let it go.

2237  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Roger Ver : Gox "worst-run business in the history of the world". on: February 27, 2014, 01:56:28 PM

Quote
Who wrote the words that you read in that video?
I wrote it all myself.

Quote
What was your relationship with Mt Gox, and it's CEO at the time of the first video?

Nothing other than a customer of Mtgox.

Quote
You specifically said: "I made a video stating that their fiat withdrawal problems were not being caused by a lack of liquidity. I made no claims regarding their solvency."  You do realize that, "liquidity' and "solvency" are symbiotic, and that any statement by you about Mt Gox at that sensitive time would be construed as an endorsement?
Having liquidity is no guarantee of solvency.  In hindsight, we now know that Mtgox has likely been insolvent for years.
I'm sorry you have a hard time understanding the difference.

Quote
Why would you endorse Mt Gox at that troubled time in their development?
Because as stated in the video, I am sure the fiat withdrawal delays at that time were not caused by a lack of liquidity.
In hindsight,  I feel terrible about having made the video.  I was deceived by Mtgox,  and my video led to who knows how many more people trusting Mtgox, and losing money because of it.  If I could go back in time, I would never have made the video.

Quote
In this video you said: "This issue was caused by poor programming skills and a total lack of book keeping on the part of Mtgox", is it true that Mt Gox allowed you to see their books, some of their financial records?
Isn't it clear to anyone who is paying attention?  Mtgox lost everyones bitcoins and didn't notice until 99% of them were gone.

Quote
Was it before you invested the "... life changing amount of bitcoins stuck in Mtgox" or just before making this new video.
I have had about 24,000 BTC from Bitcoinica stuck in Mtgox for over a year.  Mark refused to turn over those funds to the liquidator.  Now any chance I had of getting those back are gone too.  That likely makes me one of the people who lost the most money out of everyone involved with this MtGox nightmare.

[doctor just before giving you a shot] "... you may feel some pressure but it will be over shortly ..."

Roger, inasmuch as you may believe it was “purely as a favor” please consider the following: at the time of the first video your 24K btc being held by Mt Gox (MG) was literally under arrest -- not just in their care, but completely alienated from your control.   As such, it stands to reason that your visit that day was primarily concerning those funds, and probably not to make another 24K btc deposit.

That video represented two things:

1) it highlighted why inherent conflicts of interest should be disclosed, and
2) the extent you were willing to compromise your integrity,

The reason for your MG visit that day was about your 24K btc not to do a PSA for MG.  It is very likely that the full extent of your holding in MG was limited to only what you could not control.  You knew MG had problems, you probably would not have gone there if you were comfortable with how they cared for your money; likewise you knew the general public was not comfortable with how MG cared for their money, however you willingly chose to overtly allay those concerns with the MG endorsement video.  Had you disclosed the reason for being there in the first place it would have shown the viewer a more accurate picture of MG.

I believe you thought the 1st video would help in your effort to wrangle your 24K btc from MG, in so doing you were willing to needlessly place the public's interest in harms way to get your money.  Turns out you sold your soul, and stabbed the public in the back for nothing, and with that reality came video #2 -- the 'I said liquidity not solvency' video.

The semantic denotative difference between liquidity and solvency is irrelevant if the order is: "don't pay".  For example, if your house is on fire, you are told 4 fire trucks are on their way.  Upon arrival of the 1st truck the driver says: “sorry but I’m not liquid and I’m insolvent”; you're baffled and wonder 'wtf dude', but you see the 2nd truck arriving, its driver says: “sorry, I’m not liquid although I am solvent”.  As pissed as you are you know your house is more important than your 'pisstivity' besides the next truck has arrived. Driver 3 says: “sorry, although I am liquid I’m insolvent”, you are livid, totally frustrated, and your house is 50% consumed, that's when the 4th truck arrives, it is both liquid and solvent, yet none of the duty sworn firefighters act to put out the fire ...

As you can see from the above analogy it doesn't matter what they say if the intent is not to put out your fire, furthermore you can also see how your reasonable expectations was exploited and abused when they arrived to do nothing, serving only to distract you from considering other home saving solutions.

Had you known their intent you likely would not have called them in the first place.

Roger, your endorsement video was a distraction that facilitated the ongoing abuse of the public's trust by Mt Gox, the fact that you were in an adversarial relationship with MG at that time but choose not to disclose that material fact at any point gives me great pause.

If the US Attorney's office sees your participation as 'aiding and abetting' MG's effort to defraud the public you will have a lot more 'splaning to do.

[doctor] ok, that's it, it might swell and bleed a little but you'll be ok.

personally, I don't think either video had enough of a market impact to do any material damage, so don't worry about it

2238  Economy / Auctions / Overscratched USA $10 iTunes Gift Card ... auction #4 on: February 27, 2014, 03:32:07 AM
Selling An Overscratched USA $10 iTunes Gift Card

Armis does many promos involving itunes gift cards, a while back we did a number of promotions where $10 gift cards codes was the prize.

The way we transferred the instrument was to scratch off the 'scratch off' to reveal the code then scan it for email delivery.  At times overzealous scratching resulted in removal of part of the code. since the card has no expiration date we decided to 'bank' the overscratched cards for some subsequent promotion.   Although we had many other itunes promotions since we never went back to those cards, we always bought new ones.

I have many $10 iTunes gift cards that I intend to auction off individually.

Auction will start at only $8 to encourage an early response.  You may pay with any equivalent value currency listed on the Cryptsy or Poloniex exchange.

After receipt of payment and your email address I will scan then eship your gift card to you.  Upon receipt contact Apple customer service with the GCA# who will in turn give you the remaining numbers missing from the code.

Auction is one day only (24 hrs from the start of auction)

good luck and enjoy
