Raspberry Pi 3 B+ is recommended for this setup. Have you managed to set it up? I would like to know more details such as RAM and CPU usage. I don't intend to run anything else on the Raspberry Pi; however, it would be nice to be able to use it like a normal computer without any problems. I was thinking of trying this out, but I am afraid that it might be a bit overkill for me. I would be glad if you could answer my questions.

Hello everyone, I couldn't receive DGB any more, there is some error message that the address isnot correct.
look at the picture please and does anybody know what is the problem? the firmware has already updated. thanks
I have just checked DigiByte Core's changelog and it looks like they have changed the prefix of nested SegWit addresses from 3 to S. You could try replacing S with 3, but I don't guarantee that your coins will be in your wallet once you withdraw them. You can test it out with a small amount of coins. The same thing happened to Litecoin. TREZOR provides an external website to convert between the available formats of Litecoin addresses.

The private key the console gave me starts with L14, my bitcoin address starts with 3d
As I wrote above, you have to type in "p2wpkh-p2sh:<your private key>" while importing your keys to Electrum. It should look like this:
|
|
|
Now, my problem is that the private key generates another address, not my original one. Maybe it is compressed, if it is, how do I change that? How do I get a working private code out of bitcoin core?
How does your address look like? Does it start with 1, 3 or bc1? It is very important because: - if your address starts with 3 then you have to type "p2wpkh-p2sh:<private key>" in the "Import Bitcoin addresses or private keys", - if your address starts with bc1 then you have to type "p2wpkh:<private key>" in the "Import Bitcoin addresses or private keys". Since you need only one specific address, you can type "dumpprivkey <address you have received your coins to>" in the Bitcoin Core's console.

You have to make an on chain transaction in order to open a LN channel.
Don't forget about channel factories which I described in this post. This feature is still not available but it's worth bringing up since it might encourage more people to open new channels. My channel was closed by the peer for no reason and it looks like I'm not the only one. I decided to open a channel with another node.

Yes, it is. Here you can find the latest release for Linux, OSX and Windows.

I am impressed that the Lightning Network's capacity has been surging for the past few days. However, two nodes are controlling more than 50% of the funds available on the LN which some people consider as a serious danger. The number of channels doesn't matter if there aren't many connections between them. Users expect to open one channel and use it for the whole time without having to connect to another node.
Numbers don't matter, the usability of the network does.

What are the latest updates on Andreas Brekken's node? I heard that he was only earning a few cents from it even though he owns half the liquidity in the LN.
I have found an interesting article whose aim is to show that capital is not the only factor when it comes to making money from the Lightning Network fees. Comparison between Andreas Brekken's and Alex Bosworth's nodes. Fees = week_fee_sum. SourceAndreas' node's capacity has been stuck at 43 BTC for a few days now. We should give him a few weeks to collect more accurate data.

why MUST? you can use any device you like
You can use any device, of course. Good luck with copying out the address while standing in front of cashier. In my opinion, QR codes are the best choice for now. with mass adoption there might be specialized devices sold, including plastic cryptocards or mobile deviced designed to store/exchange/sell cryptocurrencies
Actually, there are services which allow you to top up your payment card with bitcoins which are automatically exchanged to any fiat while paying. I don't see any point in using a mere piece of plastic when we can simply scan a QR code or make use of NFC which becomes more and more popular in modern smartphones.

Mining may actually present a serious problem as far as you electric bill is concerned, but other than that, this environmental threat seems to be more or so based on paranoia. I mean, let's be logical for a second and think, how many people are actually mining, let alone equipped to do so? I can see if every house on the block had a rig setup, but where talking bout small number of people compared to those who don't mine.
As you mentioned, mining consumes a lot of energy. Large mining farms are usually located in countries with excess electricity. Mining rigs are not the only machines which "waste" electricity. They need a proper cooling. However, I have seen a few startups which are trying to make use of the heat which is generated during the process of mining. Many households would be actually able to cover the cost of electricity thanks to the earnings from mining. Once electricity becomes more expensive all around the world, mining farms owners will have to invest in renewable energy.

Sure i dont need to, but i would be glad to give you a tip for your help if you want you can use lighting conductor and make me an invoice. I read some more and I discovered that receiving an invoice could be a little more complicated than I thought, because the channel need to be constantly (or almost) opened to check all the route, as people are not sending coins bit only "borrowing" each other. did I understood right? Keep that money to give the Lightning Network another try in the future In order to receive coins through the Lightning Network, your node has to be online all the time. If you close all your channels then obviously you won't be able to receive any coins. Keep in mind that there has to be a route between you and the person who generates an invoice. Check out this thread, we are having a nice discussion there.

|
|
Now, how can I send you 100k satoshis using lighting network to say "thank you"? Do I need to set up a channel with you or do we have an opened route via lightingspin and all I need is a request by you? I can not send a LN payment without an invoice by the receiver, right?
You don't need to. I'm glad that you have managed to recover your funds. Anyway, my wallet does not support receiving over the Lightning Network so I wouldn't be able to accept your gift. Yes, you would need a payment request from me, but as I wrote, I cannot generate one. Also, you wouldn't need to open a channel with me if there was any route between us.

Yes, it could be a wallet fault. Is there no way to see if the channel should be open or not? Or that's a "private" channel and there's not an open ledger about opened channels? In my first post I pasted some data that I supposed could had worked like a 'tx id" for channels. Sorry if I'm not using the right words but I'm not used to the LN. (And I didn't won anything, i lost I deposited 300k and now I have 286k in total) If I were you, I would try setting up a node on a computer instead. Opening a new channel does not make any sense because as I wrote earlier, it might be an issue with your current wallet. Here you can find a list of lightningspin.com's channels. After a while of thinking, I came up with another solution. There is a website called Lightning Conductor which allows you to convert your bitcoins on the LN to on-chain ones without having to close your channel. All you have to do is to input the destination Bitcoin address and the amount of BTC. The website will generate you a LN invoice which you will have to input on the lightningspin.com. Note: I haven't used that website, but it seems to work fairly well.

Powaznie?

$lncli updatechanpolicy --base_fee_msat 1000 --fee_rate 0.9
I suck at this math thing, but I'm thinking changing the fee rate from 1 to 0.9 makes routing through me cheaper ?
Or more expensive ?
The fee rate used when forwarding payments on our channels. The total fee charged is basefee + (amount * feerate / 1000000), where amount is the forwarded amount. (default: 1)
The lower the fee rate, the lower routing fees people will have to pay. It might actually encourage wallets to choose your node. Yesterday, I tried Lightning Spin because one user has a problem with it and I was surprised. I haven't used my Eclair wallet for some time. I had to wait roughly 1 minute and I haven't paid any routing fees!

W Beginners & Help bez problemu można spotkać kilka Merit Source, a nawet jeden z nich oznacza tematy jako "[for merit]".

If i open a channel with some trusted peer connected to lightingspin, would i supposed to be able to make a payment request? [...] And how can I find the connected peers?
Theoretically yes, but I can't guarantee you that. I still think that there is a problem with this wallet. Here you can check the details of channels connected to that node. Next time try to choose more popular implementation so you can avoid this kind of problems in the future. This is enough to even discourage one from testing lightning network!
Read the whole thread once again. It's not the fault of the Lightning Network. He won 200k satoshis on the site, but he can't withdraw it due to some problems with his wallet which is not very popular (1 thousand downloads on Google Play).

I funded the jar, but I'm not able to open a channel with coinpanic.com (03a9d79bcfab7feb0f24c3cd61a57f0f00de2225b6d31bce0bc4564efa3b1b5aaf) because "data loss protection is not enabled by this peer". Also, opening a new channel cost 300k satoshis min deposit (is this a lighting network design feature or only my wallet?) and I'm a bit exitant to do it, but I'll do if you know a trusted peer
You should be able to receive without opening additional channel (assuming that there is at least one route between you and that node). You'd better change your wallet. I currently use Eclair on my Android phone. The minimum amount to open a channel is 0.001 BTC. However, it does not support receiving fund so if you really need that feature then you should consider setting up a node on your computer which might be more difficult. You could start with the testnet to see if everything is working correctly without having to spend your precious coins.
