2281  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Halving double-hash instruction count on: July 22, 2019, 08:55:49 PM
Phil is right, the BM1387 chip used in the S9 was designed with asicboost in mind from the beginning (as an option, not as a necessity). The recent firmwares simply provide the software support necessary to actually gain that ~13% power savings.

Correct but AB does that by incrementing the starting value of work sent to the chips 2-4 times and then reusing it - NOT by 'halving the instruction count'. Do a search for the ASICBOOST whitepaper to find out what it does.
2282  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon A1041 Review on: July 22, 2019, 03:11:11 PM
Whatever the reason, given their past communications history I really expected Canaan to let us know the reason for the delay   Huh
2283  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon A1041 Review on: July 22, 2019, 02:34:38 PM
Given my Blokforge order for an A1041 was supposed to ship July 15-20, if it doesn't ship today (because of the weekend) I'll consider it officially late.
Ditto for the 2nd one I ordered in June.
And actually, my 1st A10 ordered May 13th was supposed to ship "early July" so I already consider that one late.
Really surprised we have not gotten a status update from Canaan/Blokforge...
2284  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Remote Shutdown - Antminer S9 on: July 19, 2019, 02:55:12 PM
@mikeywith, you might want to check your spell checker... A high power relay is better known as a contactor - not a contractor  Wink
2285  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: M3X Hashboard Problem on: July 19, 2019, 01:35:12 PM
Hello,

What is data bridge in hashboard?
Is this one https://pangolinminer.com/product/miner-hashboard-connect-cable-m3-m3x/ ?
Not exactly, in the M10 that cable is replaced by a small PCB that serves the same function.
That said, try swapping one end of 2 cables to different boards or on the controller end, different sockets. Does the problem follow the swap?
2286  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Whatsminer M20S 65 TH on: July 17, 2019, 01:07:52 AM
If you are near a large urban arean check the local electrical supply houses for used transformers. 480/208 single or 3-phase ones up to several hundred KW can usually be sourced through them for a franction of the cost of new ones.
2287  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Ebang 11++ // Any user experience needed on: July 16, 2019, 06:12:48 PM
Personally I say avoid Ebang miners. Period.
The company has near zero customer support and their build quality stinks with many many failures reported. Just check the existing threads on their E9 & E10...
This post and the 2 above it sums up very well how crappy they are.
Another example is here later in the same thread
2288  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Next jump foward on: July 16, 2019, 01:00:37 PM
Ya got a couple right:
The 2 biggest reasons are the dedicated PSU which eliminates the 2nd stage Vcore regulators saving around 10% or more on power and Competition which led to the publicly released improvements in Firmware. That said, the FW improvements should have been there all along...

Samsung has been building chips for decades including 14nm ones for miners back when BM and others were still at 22 & 28nm. Yeah BM got their 7nm chip right but at still horrible yields and Canaan proved with their 7nm chip that smaller is certainly NOT always better. More chips per string and dedicated PSU's goes back to early Bitfury days, the PCB gerber files they released to Open Source a few years ago were for 24 & 48-chip strings. 1st mass produced FinFET's were 90nm chips (DRAM) from Samsung in 2004.
2289  Economy / Scam Accusations / microbtwhatsminerd1.com is a SCAM! on: July 15, 2019, 03:36:59 PM
@OP For a start please edit the thread title to reflect that MicroBT is NOT the scammer. The 'reseller' you picked is the criminal!
A better title would be microbtwhatsminerd1.com is a SCAM!

Wrong area, have requested that this be moved to the SCAM accusations area
2290  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon A1041 Review on: July 15, 2019, 01:48:43 PM
Any non-demo A10's seen in the wild yet? It's looking like Canaan/Blokforge have blown the "early July" delivery date promised for those of us who bought in early May...
2291  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining on X11gost using Nicehash with Baikal X or G28 - not working! on: July 05, 2019, 12:45:26 PM
Try asking in the ALTCOIN area where some might care about that crap coin.
2292  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Cloud farm-mining.com website is a scam! on: July 03, 2019, 03:06:56 PM
Hate to say it but consider that 3k as gone. Ouch!
I'm sure that there is a special level of Hell for folks running those scams  Angry
2293  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Is this cloud farm-mining.com website a scam? on: July 03, 2019, 01:33:19 PM
Best you can do here is post on it in the 2 child boards found at the top of Trading Discussions, Scam accusations and Reputation.
2294  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Is this cloud farm-mining.com website a scam? on: July 03, 2019, 01:25:46 PM
Virtually ALL cloudmining operations are scams, mainly Ponzi schemes. Only Bitdeer and Hashnest (both owned by Bitmain) aren't and at best those are better looked as very low yield investments.

Oh, and as this is NOT BTC mining don't be surprised when a mod moves this to where it belongs under Services because cm is a service.
2295  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: What to do with all the old s-9s. on: July 02, 2019, 08:48:44 PM
Looking damn good there. What is the power usage, under 400w I take it?
Looks like I may just be able to run some of my old s9's that have been piling up. Considering all the dead hash boards I have, running 1-per casing will work out just fine Smiley
2296  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain introduces the Antminer S17 Pro, Antminer S17, and the Antminer T17 on: July 02, 2019, 06:46:10 PM
When posting from Imgur you set the size of the image before copying the link. At the bottom right of the image selection window you will find a list of the sizes. I usually use medium or large thumbnail.
2297  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Bitminter bitcoin mining pool - Pays TxFees, Merged Mining, Fair PPLNS rewards on: July 01, 2019, 01:39:24 PM

Thanks so much for replying, i deeply appreciate any help you could give me on this. Well, as u were asking for, ill post the kernel log:
<massive snip>
Then, after ~3 min the antminer restarts.

Thanks for reading and thanks in advance for any help i can get from here. Have a nice day.

Oh - and when asking help questions a LOT more info would be nice such as:
Make and model of miner?
Bought new or used?
PSU used and what your AC power is?
Temps where the miners are?
Screen shot of the miner status page.

For the most part the kernal logs are useless...

I had a couple with the plastic standoffs that seemed broken from the factory and they used different screws. Photos on their site showed them putting them together with impact drivers.

Not impact drivers. Technically, those are known as torque-controlled screwdrivers which allow for setting the max torque applied to screws. They *should* be electronically limiting the torque vs having the mechanical stick-slip clutch that an impact driver uses. Of course that also means that they have to be properly set and periodically checked for correct values...

As for the BM data cables, what works very well is a set of parallel pliers such as https://www.amazon.com/EURO-TOOL-Parallel-Pliers-PLR-866-00/dp/B009436GDO which will evenly squeeze the wide locking tab so ya can remove the cable.

Here the best I got from a 741 that I used to use as a heater in my TV room. The PSU fan is louder than the miner.

Something to keep in mind is that BM's hash board failure rate is fairly high. For those with many miners it is not uncommon to see a 10-15% failure rate often in less than a year or so. I used to run 16 s9/T9's ranging from batch-1 up to batch 25 (around 3 years ago) and every single one had at least 1 board fail. For the most part Avalons run forever with very few hardware failures reported here in the Forum. I currently run 21 Avalons, most are 841's and 2x 921's. To date only 1 failure and that was a PMU board on a 821  Wink
