2301  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][BURST] Burst | Efficient HDD Mining | New 1.2.2 Automated Transactions on: February 19, 2015, 06:11:51 PM
I am sorry to say that it appears that bitronictech.org (aka Bryan Appelson) seems to have *imploded* so ciyam.org is not working (this doesn't just affect AT it means I can't even do email thanks to this clown).

You can google about them and see others have complained how bad his service has become (my guess is that he has gone bankrupt).

I will try and sort out a new VPS for ciyam.org ASAP so please be patient in the meantime (I will give @vbcs the relevant web pages to put somewhere else if need be).
2302  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: What if somebody makes an ASIC to crack SHA-256 hashes with Brute force? on: February 19, 2015, 04:17:32 PM
My guess is trolling - the "sun picture" with the explanation about even counting to 2^256 should have been enough for anyone that can understand the very basics of physics (and yes a Bitcoin private address is slightly smaller than 2^256 but that is hardly relevant).

If he can't even grok that then why bother explaining that you actually need to do 1000's of times more work to actually find funds with your already impossible to ever obtain complete set of the 2^256 numbers.

He is basically worried about "how easy it might be to work out the size of a teacup" that is orbiting around the solar system (never minding the fact that you'll never find the teacup in the first place).
2303  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Has there ever been another Satoshi type of person? on: February 19, 2015, 03:30:21 PM
Satoshi isn't the first to come up with a digital form of money.  There's been ecash, hashcash, and even PayPal before Bitcoin.  The closest logical peer to Satoshi is probably Linus Torvalds, the founder of Linux.  Since Satoshi is simply building a better system on top of Hashcash, this makes the most logical sense, since Linus Torvalds simply created a better version of Unix.

Although I agree 100% that Satoshi did not invent digital money he did create a working implementation of the "blockchain" concept which is actually a far more significant thing (whether or not he was the originator of the blockchain concept I am not sure as I've read that it might have been proposed before by others known in this area).

Prior to this creation there was no P2P way of achieving "consensus" that could be trusted enough to solve the "double-spending problem".

My guess is that the significance of this creation will only be understood completely many years down the track (but my gut feel is that it is one of the most important creations in the last 50 years).
2304  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Qora | 100% POS | Assets | Names | Voting | Open Source on: February 19, 2015, 03:54:37 AM
The names of technologies (such as "blockchain" which has become the main name for Satoshi's core idea) are generally never that "cool" because they are typically created by developers and not marketing people.

When we have further extended the work on the toolset perhaps some marketing types will come up with a "cool name" for that and we can use that more in PR material but while we are still in these initial stages (and have no real funds for marketing) it is probably best to stick with the generic "Smart Contract" term with a brief mention that the technology to provide the implementation is the AT creation by CIYAM Developers).

I have sent the link to your post to @vbcs hopefully he'll be online in a while to help sort it out (assuming no-one else can see the problem from your log output).

EDIT: Okay I'll let him know you're fine for now then (there is clearly a bug going on with that but as we are working on completely redoing the UI it isn't the highest priority assuming a restart fixes the issue).

(and then the ad-sig posting begins)

I have installed this file and used for some days, but at this moment i dont see any active projects.

You may need to restart the client (I recall @vbcs mentioning this).

at crowdfunding does not work?

It is working fine - but you need to install the UI (currently a separate .html file) - the link to this was already given several times (http://burstcoin.info/d/cf).

Taken from my apartment window (the building you see isn't a reflection - it was so loud and close that my hand ended up shaking when I took the photo).

2310  Other / Off-topic / Re: The no ad-sigs posters allowed topic - come and not be annoyed by rubbish posts on: February 18, 2015, 03:11:59 PM
Actually those aren't reflections (I opened the window).

It was so loud and close that I couldn't hold the camera without shaking a bit. Cheesy

(the building you see is part of the same complex and only around 50 metres away the fireworks are being set off between the buildings by residents of the complex)

Here is a shot I just took from my apartment window (was a little scary actually).

I'm trying to move on to other topics, but since you've asked . . .

Thanks for your patience (as ever).

It is now approaching Chinese New Year and the fireworks are steadily building up outside. I'll see if I can post a photo here when it "goes off" at midnight. Smiley
2313  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: internet protocol vs bitcoin protocol on: February 18, 2015, 02:24:40 PM
You could use mesh networks to pass around Bitcoin transactions and blocks, however, they'd have to eventually get back onto the "internet" backbone to end up being included in the blockchain.

The biggest problem with trying to create another "global" network is the hardware needed to connect between countries (which is mostly currently using IP).
2314  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: internet protocol vs bitcoin protocol on: February 18, 2015, 02:15:36 PM
And don't forget about UDP (used for many streaming applications).

But Bitcoin is an application level protocol (you should compare it to something more like bittorrent than TCP/IP which is what it runs on top off).
2315  Other / Off-topic / Re: The no ad-sigs posters allowed topic - come and not be annoyed by rubbish posts on: February 18, 2015, 02:05:07 PM
It really has made a huge difference in the usability and value that I get from the forum.

I am certainly going to consider it (up until now I only have only ever put a few people on ignore due to personal attacks that just got a bit too annoying and I think those people were either expelled from the forum or left under a cloud anyway now).

Also don't you still see "this person is currently being ignored" or the like?

In my own forum implementation you don't see their post at all (not sure about the bumping though - would have to check my code but I think I did also handle that from memory). Thus people you ignore in CIYAM Open really just disappear (apart from quotes of course).
2316  Other / Off-topic / Re: The no ad-sigs posters allowed topic - come and not be annoyed by rubbish posts on: February 18, 2015, 01:43:53 PM
I was refering to this suggestion.

Sorry - I had meant to respond to that earlier but got distracted and then forgot all about it.

Actually I think it has some merit although perhaps it would be best to only apply to certain forum boards.
2317  Other / Off-topic / Re: The no ad-sigs posters allowed topic - come and not be annoyed by rubbish posts on: February 18, 2015, 01:35:46 PM
I thought we had too - but *sigh* it seems most people want to discuss that (which is I guess perhaps a sign of the frustration people now have with this forum).

So I decided to let people "vent" a bit more but you would be most welcome to bring up something more interesting though (if it gets too boring I'll just lock it as I do now for most of my topics that end up going in circles).

BTW although I do appreciate your ignore list I find ignores are not so great as I still end up seeing the poster's avatar and I think the topics still get bumped don't they?
2318  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Qora | 100% POS | Assets | Names | Voting | Open Source on: February 18, 2015, 01:26:36 PM
But before that can happen, I'm sure we need to get a smaller coin onboard first (to show that we have a viable and stable working system).

This is our main focus for now - improving AT (there is now both an assembler and a debugger) and getting ACCT to work across two blockchains.
2319  Other / Off-topic / Re: The no ad-sigs posters allowed topic - come and not be annoyed by rubbish posts on: February 18, 2015, 01:24:23 PM
The fact that I have to keep deleting posts from people with ad-sigs when the topic clearly tells them "they are not welcome here" just shows how bad this forum has become.

The *vast majority* of people using this forum now are ad sig posters with zero respect for any rules or anyone. They just post to earn some tiny amount of money to place "shit in the road".

Imagine if people were being paid to literally shit in the streets (forming the ad as a "shit sig") - somehow I don't think the majority would say "oh well - they have to earn a living somehow so just try and ignore all the shit". Cheesy
2320  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Qora | 100% POS | Assets | Names | Voting | Open Source on: February 18, 2015, 12:41:31 PM
We are hoping to get a Bitcoin clone to implement AT (it has been designed in a way that it should be able to work with Bitcoin's Script engine with just one new op code being required).

If this is achieved then AT would end up being the "standard" method to do such ACCT transfers and a marketplace could evolve in each supporting blockchain.
