Traditionally it's called "venture capital", which in some cases invests in "ideas" with no finished product. The risks are astronomical but so are the returns. It's always just a matter of the investors due diligence and proper hedging, hence you can't just make definitive statements like "never invest in X" or "always invest in Y".

Easy  Think of 10b mkt cap in near future. If Bitcoin crash to 1 dollar you can only dream about 10b marketcap. These days are fatal - if we enter bear zone (that seems legit now) all crypto wealth will diminish in the next monts. SONM will be not exception. However, if bull will win over bear we can expect 1SNM = $1 usd and more. Blah blah blah some TA bullshit? I will revisit this post when dollar bubble bursts and wall streeters are living on street as bum. While the dollar bubble is bound to pop, WSers are unlikely to live on the street. I'm sure most of them own real estate and precious metals and they're bound to be buying up cryptos right now, even if in the shadows. The more interesting question is whether or not the dollar bubble will trigger capital flight into cryptos or not. |

Electricity used (for PoW coins) would be a better metric, since hashrate depends on the algorithm used. Bitcoin also has ASICs, while Ethereum only uses GPUs, hence creating a massive discrepancy in hashrate numbers. By taking electricity as a measure you circumvent that and can more accurately assess how many resources go into each crypto. The downside is that it doesn't take into account the hardware costs, which you would have to estimate and include in your calculations for a more accurate picture. |

Hey guys, I started 2016 with almost nothing, just a little more than 2 digits. It went to single digits by end of 2016 or beginning of 2017. By middle of 2017 it went to double digits again. And bitcoin's price was rallying too. I took a month long vacation during summer, then went back to see my hodlings kinda doubled (in fiat value) but remained the same in bitcoin.
As Torque implied, I was probably one of those kids in 2012 who bought some bitcoins worth $1500, waited for it to double to $3000, then cashed out to buy toys or whatever. I repeated that performance in 2013 to 2014 with Litecoin (from $20 to $40, worth about another $1000).
The coulda shoulda woulda ... the 20/20 hindsight, we all should have just bought as soon as we discovered bitcoin and hodl'ed until either 2014 or 2017 (take your pic, you either did 1000% or 10000%)
Some of us did. A lot of us did not. Some got "roached" and I can clearly see the bitterness as I continue to not ignore him and read his posts (and again, they're all still wrong, he just loves his dead pyramid ,... pyramids do function as tombs for god-kings, but they're dead.)
Anyway, I missed the last 30 or 50 pages recently, was busy dabbling in alts again and watching my almost triple digits remain double digits ... but I didn't actually trade anything, I was just watching. A few of you did take me up on my offer, but the rest of your remain apathetic towards alts in general, vehemently violent against a few in particular.
While we don't understand some of them, it is interesting to note that their biggest supporters in this thread (and outside this thread) do have or revealed to have or had at least a thousand coins of BTC as well as BCH, so there is something to learn from them.
So, while I can't just yet retire on $4 million, maybe if I hodl long enough while living off the rest of my other crypto "earnings" or hodlings, some of you guys will be obscenely rich beyond imagination and I'll be content or happy with whatever I get, probably close to double digit millions, hopefully.

I consider the altcoin market as an easily accessible venture capital market, and I have significant positions in some of them. The overwhelming majority is certainly trash and I wouldn't touch it with a pole, but I don't think that anybody can rationally explain away all of the altcoins. I prefer staying out of "Bitcoin clones" and "next-gen Bitcoins" though (smallest positions for good measure) - mostly because there are no fundamentals to analyze; while investing in seeds that can realistically be achieved and sustained with predictable lower-end returns and potentials when thrown into a portfolio. Granted that's a lot more work than just holding Bitcoins would be, but I also find it more interesting by virtue of keeping an eye on the entire beast that is blockchain and cryptocurrencies, which I do believe will become equities 2.0. I would be quite surprised if traditional stock markets were still relevant a few decades from now, and the fact that common people at least have the access to VC is also quite big (which is something that crowdfunding platforms completely failed to accomplish due to their outrageous fees and crappy policies). |

The real value is 0. The price is irrelevant. wtf! Who are those people who are trading it now?
How come they can still do trading if their coins have totally failed. They already closed their trading platform yet the coins price is increasing and they continue on the exchange. Maybe people want to keep their coins as a novelty? I can't think of any other reason, to be honest. Sort of how rare banknotes are worth 100x their actual worth, perhaps people want to buy this coin to show people later on that they still own it. I feel like you're giving them too much credit. BCC is neither rare nor novel. People are just trying to "buy the bottom" (of a bottomless pit). |

And here another question from me regarding the platform and the THT specifically.
Will it be possible to "contract/hire" third parties to participate in the THT on your behalf without compromising token security?
I'd imagine that very large holders would be quite interested in being able to contract others to work on the THT for them while paying them a share. Simultaneously people with no tokens would be able to earn some money on the THT without holding large quantities of tokens themselves.
This is something that could potentially attract more investors, while at the same time increasing the amount of voters on the THT to ensure fairly settled disputes. After all, hiring multiple people to vote on the THT while splitting up the total tokens among them would hedge against a loss of revenue due to "false votes" from voting individually on cases.

Dumpers are irrelevant, because LNC tokens will have an inherent value, as they entitle you to participating in the tribunals which pay out the profits of the platform among the token holding participants. So whenever tokens get dumped below their payout the market will be quick to sponge them up, especially once the platform matures. Also, I do believe a burn was mentioned way back, but I can't find it in the papers anymore, so it's best to wait for the team to respond to this one. |

Likely less than two months, since they need the cards rolled out before the event takes place (or at least that's what they are aiming for). Perhaps we'll see the cards in February already. Yeah end of Jan and beginning of Feb will be huge for Monaco! This whole year will be massive if they seriously manage to hit ~10m downloads before 2019, which appears to be their goal. |

You completely ignored the fact that China and Russia are both very clearly going back to precious metals as money. So again, why would they let the west derail their plan with these centralized, imaginary tokens that don't even scale when metals are far better for them and more sound as money anyway?
And there's more to crypto than just Bitcoin, which renders your argument regarding China entirely redundant.

Why would China not ban bitcoin? How does bitcoin help China in ANY way even if they wanted to use it? They have 1 billion fucking people and bitcoin doesn't scale to service a small town with one gas station, let alone China. This thread is mostly a giant echo chamber of technically illiterate people, so they don't know Lightning Network can't function in a decentralized manner whatsoever (not that bitcoin itself functions decentralized either). You do not have this option with government and CB controlled fiat currencies. And luckily cryptos are not centralized and will be further decentralized as the mainstream starts adopting them. You're also completely neglecting the fact that a bunch of centralized hubs can very well coexist with a decentralized base layer, while also completely ignoring the fact that this is just the first solution for the current very real problems with scaling. In the future, just like exchanges, something like LN might very well end up returning to full decentralization. And there's more to crypto than just Bitcoin, which renders your argument regarding China entirely redundant. |

Does Binance even list shitcoins? Comm'on you started a very similar ICO about freelancing (I just checked your posts). I would say that at least there is a conflict of interests from your part. Stop spreading FUD. I didn't start any ICO. I'm supporting a legitimate project in their bounty campaign, while simultaneously pointing out frauds (like this, BCC, or TKK among others). Certainly no conflict of interest on my part, as the success or failure of CL has no bearing on me or my participation in aforementioned campaign. Up to people if they want to choose to listen to 2 post sock puppet accounts or seasoned members of this forum. |
