23281  Other / Meta / Re: Suggestion: Merit Phase 2 - Drain the Swamp (@theymos) on: April 26, 2018, 09:36:44 AM
I still think an ongoing merit requirement to earn the right to wear a signature is a good idea although it doesn't look like this proposal is going anywhere.
I've noticed many suggestions to improve the forum end up being more restrictions for many users, and usually it's something that doesn't harm the person who suggested it.
I hate spammers, but I don't think creating more restrictions is the right way to solve it. I like the simplicity in the current merit system.

Maybe we should just ban all ICOs from being promoted on the forum and trash the altcoin bounties board instead.
I'd love to see that happen! Ban all facebook and twitter spam from the forum.
I'd love to see spam-free ICOs and bounty threads, but that's not possible if you're competing with hundreds of spam threads. A start could be selling advertising space in 5 sticky threads on those boards, for self-moderated spam-free campaigns. But that's something for another thread.
23282  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: About when this tx will be confirmed? on: April 26, 2018, 05:42:04 AM
I think you misread the feerate on them Tongue
You're right. I'm not used to blockcypher.com, I didn't expect they'd leave out the last zero, so I actually have to count leading zeros.
Fees are low again!
23283  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: About when this tx will be confirmed? on: April 25, 2018, 08:51:51 PM
Hold on a second, it seems on the blockcypher's browser that this transaction has already been double spent...
This transaction is the "second try" with 1.5 sat/byte fee. The "first try" had 1 sat/byte fee.

Quote
Hold on for another second, as far as I know, ViaBTC only accepts transactions above 10 sat/B (or this was the limit last year December
Maybe they lowered it without updating their FAQ? In the past months, transactions with 10 sat/byte fee didn't need acceleration.
23284  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: About when this tx will be confirmed? on: April 25, 2018, 08:22:00 PM
Blockchain's node rejected it, but https://live.blockcypher.com/btc/tx/84a0f3f0d613e02dde954939faf621c455406506c388567325d15619ea30277f/ still shows your transaction. At 1.5 sat/byte, my Bitcoin Core estimates it to confirm within 8 hours. Unless fees keep rising like they did in December, in that case it can take weeks.
Currently, you'll need a 20 times higher fee for a fast confirmation. Blocks are full again, I wouldn't be surprised if that's caused by a spam attack related to the Bcash pump.
23285  Other / Meta / Re: Warning: BTC-engineer was hacked on: April 25, 2018, 08:05:00 PM
It's probably better if you can prove that "BTC-engineer" is indeed your account. For example, create a signature message (assuming you've already stake your address).
There's no need, as he claims the account is locked already. But if that's true, this thread is useless.
23286  Other / Meta / Re: Mod, please check new plagiarism: Reporting copy/pasting, please permban on: April 25, 2018, 07:59:05 PM
Newbie thsaudwl banned! probably doesn't speak English, and has no idea what he's copying. Please ban him.

That is the idea, it is mostly aesthetic.  Instead of having to run oclvanitygen once per GPU, you'll be able to run it once per system, and tell it to use all of your GPUs.

Organized clustering across systems will be more complicated.  One way to do this, in the near future, that follows the model of bitcoin mining, will be:
- Run oclvanityminer on each system in the cluster.
- Run a private bounty server, or the equivalent of a mining proxy, and configure your oclvanityminers to connect to it.

There isn't a private bounty server, at least not yet

The way I see it, there is no performance benefit in supporting multiple GPU's from the same instance. It's just aesthetic.

23287  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Hard Drive Speed running a Core Node on: April 25, 2018, 07:49:27 PM
achow101 doesn't recommend using symlinks, it can lead to blockchain corruption. Everything must be on the same folder, blocks and chainstate files.
It's never happened to me, but even if it would happen, I don't really mind losing my blockchain directory. When it comes to that, I get a new disk and download it again.
I'm not running any critical business environment, it's just my home PC.
23288  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Hard Drive Speed running a Core Node on: April 25, 2018, 10:12:47 AM
Is this fast enough to run a core node? On Bitcoin.org it recommends 100 MB/s.
This doesn't make much sense, as the disk access time is much more important than sequential read write speed. Do you have a link to this recommendation? Could it be the internet speed they recommend to run a node?

To share my 2 cents out of my own experience: I would just install Bitcoin Core, let it create it's default ~/.bitcoin directory on your SSD, then close it.
Then, inside the .bitcoin-directory, move the blocks-directory to your external HDD, and create a simlink to the new location. While you're doing this anyway, create a backup of your wallet.dat.
Start Bitcoin Core again. Most disk activity happens in the chainstate-directory, which is now on your fast SSD. The blocks directory is on your large HDD.

Note though that you should make absolutely sure your USB disk doesn't disconnect while running Bitcoin Core!
23289  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum doesn't restore right wallet address on: April 25, 2018, 05:40:22 AM
And he did...
It makes sense to be on the Electrum board, but I've seen most questions about using a SegWit address from Bitcoin core (without syncing) on this board.
It's in my bookmarks to refer to now. Electrum should work on telling Google about this feature, I couldn't find it.
23290  Other / Meta / Re: @Admins: Merit not working as configured, trolls just don't care (no surprise) on: April 24, 2018, 09:36:20 PM
~
Whereas JetCash, who has much more earned merit than me (or anyone else in the thread) was kind of neutral.

And 3 straight Members with relatively high merit (Magic Smoke, nebuch & bitperson) were kind of positive. Interesting Grin
I'm not short on merit and I hate spam, but I'm not in favour of paying per post.
As discussed here, I wouldn't have joined this forum 3 years ago, if that would have meant paying for it. I agree paying per post would stop many spammers, but it would probably stop at least a few knowledgeable people from joining the forum too.
However, it pay-per-post would be introduced now, I'd pay, as long as it can be covered by the earnings from my signature. As much as I like this forum, I'm not willing to shill out my own money to post here.

  • Nuke the old rank status for all members, re-adjust according to merit only
I agree this should eventually happen though. I get that theymos can't just turn everybody into a Newbie instantly, but long-term, the "free" merit should be taken away again. Something like half the amount needed to level up naturally (=1 merit per day) will do.
I value someone's posts much more if he earned 100 merit by himself, than if he's Legendary but barely received anything.
Meanwhile, it becomes increasingly more difficult to see if someone earned his merit, or got it for free. Decaying free merit would solve that in the long term, and puts high ranking people with bad post quality back where they would have been if they didn't rank up before the merit system was introduced.

Well, it depends how high the fee per post was set. Would you pay 0.0001 satoshis for 1 post as a Legendary member? See how this works? The price mechanism is powerful, if the price was just high enough to erase all spammers aside from the richest trolls, it would be a price worth paying IMO.
I've read a few claims that some people are paying $20 per merit. If they're willing to pay that much for a small fraction of their next rank, they'll pay a lot to keep posting too. 0.0001 satoshis per post isn't going to stop spammers, and a million times more won't stop it either.
The forum has 8513 posts per day. It would be interesting to know how much is earned from those posts to know how much people are willing to pay for it. About half the posts on the forum are in bounty threads now, I have no idea what that's worth per post. High ranking signature campaigns pay up to several dollars per post.

Maybe another way to reward quality members would be universal tipping, everyone is given a tipping address (Lightning again) whether they like it or not (or every account is forced to supply a Lightning address). I don't publish a tipping address, but if I was forced to, I'd take any tips if I was given any.

Tips could easily help to offset the cost of posting, even if Legendary members were paying 0.0001 satoshis per post.
I've collected pros and cons of tipping micropayments last year, but there isn't much interest. I prefer the merit system now.

Interesting that the people with advertising in the sigs or avatars are 100% against the idea (thus far anyway).
That's not why I'm against it. I'm pretty sure nobody would post here if a post would cost anything close to what my signature pays.
I'm glad to say the one in my sig also advertises on the forum, so it's not only taking advertising that doesn't earn the forum anything.

I still dont get a lot about your idea. If, i use if, if i have a valuable information about technology of bitcoin or anything valuable about bitcoin price analytics, why would i share to other people while i must pay? Doesnt it works the other way, people pay you when you have something valuable?
Or even worse: a Newbie has a problem with his wallet, and is happy to pay some dust to get help. But the people helping him, have to pay for that?

So, any money you lose while ranking up gets paid back to you in future by any trolls that just refuse to leave Cool
Sounds like a ponzi Cheesy

DarkStar, Lauda and Yahoo are doing a pretty good job in accepting only the best candidates according to their opinion and judgement, and thus far the campaign participants managed by these managers, per ratio mostly deliver one of the highest quality posts on this forum. I wouldn't be against an 'unofficial' rule that signature campaigns and other related roots should only be managed by a select group of managers with a proven track record.
Quality comes at a price: the ones now accepting bad quality posts don't have the budget to be more picky. I've only shortly managed a signature campaign, and it's a lot of work. Without merit, I had to check many spammers' posts, and some of the good participants were quickly snatched up by a better paying campaign.
Giving a small group of managers a monopoly to run signature campaigns would probably end most of the spam, but I don't think theymos would want to limit freedom by creating a monopoly.

An alternative way of banning signature campaigns/remove signature is to have a merit requirement for participating in one. This should be imposed by all campaign managers out there especially in altcoins.
This actually makes it easier on the manager, as he has much less accounts to check. But only high paying campaigns can be this picky.
FYI: Just 14,000 out of 2 million accounts have earned at least 1 merit.

I'm not done reading yet, but my day is up Tongue
23291  Economy / Services / Re: LoyceV Legendary Campaign Manager | PORTFOLIO | Available to Manage Campaigns on: April 24, 2018, 06:10:21 PM
I've updated the OP with the latest campaigns I've managed.

TODO: create a default disclaimer for any future campaigns I'll be managing.
TODO: create terms for anyone I'll go in business with.
23292  Other / Meta / Re: Another view on merit data, the timing on: April 24, 2018, 10:40:17 AM
3. And the most interesting (imho), the most "meritable" hours in days of week.
My assumption would be this coincides with total forum activity.

I'd say that either people are sending and receiving more merits when theymos is not around or they are happy on *thursday more than other days of the week. second lol.
Merit was introduced on a Thursday, that's why there's a "spike" on Thursday. The percentage of all Merit used on Thursday is still dropping, as this averages out.

Ps. you should know that mods don't like me, so if you report any of my posts, the chance of deletion is greater than other members.
Stay on topic, it helps Wink

Theymos doesnt have any power here,DT members are the ones who are powerful in this forum.
Who do you think put people in DT1? Theymos has all the power, but doesn't abuse it. That's why theymos also added people to DT2, and even excluded people from DT2. After that, it's up to the other DT1 members to include or exclude people. In a way, it's a democratic vote from DT1 members to create DT2 members.
Some DT1 members disagree with theymos on including certain members. Isn't that great?

DT members have their own rules, they have their own standards and set of rules.
That's the beauty of the system: it's self-regulating. And sometimes, someone is removed from DT2 after the community disagrees with the red trust he left.
I'm still considering how to use my DT2 powers, so far I've been very conservative.

Quote
Theres no such thing as merit abusers based on the owner of this forum but hes a pussy
I believe theymos chooses freedom of speech and expression over strict control. That's why you're allowed to call him this.

Quote
These selfish retarded people dont want any members to rank up and if they want you to get kicked out from this forum they can easily tag your ass some redtrust
I'm curious which account of yours received red trust.
I don't think any DT member has a problem with people ranking up. I for one like it when new users earn merit by posting quality.

Can the admins create another column for sections that  we see/filter how many merits are given in a certain topic?(just an idea)
23295  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum doesn't restore right wallet address on: April 23, 2018, 08:45:17 PM
AFAIK there is currently no way to import private keys for segwit addresses from Bitcoin Core to Electrum.
I read (and bookmarked) this 2 days ago:
In the field where you enter the private key, enter p2wpkh-p2sh: in front of the private key.
For example, do this:
Code:
p2wpkh-p2sh:5BlahBlah
Replace "5blahblah" with your private key.
It should import the correct address

I haven't tested it yet, but if it works, I want to merit him.
23296  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: 🔥Create quick reports of TWITTER-campaigns🔥 on: April 23, 2018, 05:33:14 PM
I will acquaint you with the service Allmytweets. This service loads all your tweets and retweets from the moment of registration on one page.
Is it your site? This is what I need, but I need it 1000 times per week Tongue
TwBirthday.com allows me to download data without logging in, just the URL is enough. Example: http://twbirthday.com/loycevval/
It would be fantastic for bounty managers if I can download all tweets from participants from my command line, to analyze them locally.
23297  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Vanitygen: Vanity bitcoin address generator/miner [v0.22] on: April 23, 2018, 05:18:10 PM
This is not "non-native SegWit" address, is it?
This is just a standard non-segwit P2SH address, right? (non-segwit multi-signature address)
Since this is not a segwit P2SH-P2WPKH address, then it won't save us on tx size and fee
I think you're right. That does fit Avirunes' multisig redeem script better.
(I really can't remember names like "P2SH-P2WPKH" and the different versions)

I'll edit my post.

Jr. Member cryptolopoly banned! is trying to earn merit through plagiarism. Please ban him.

Copy (archived):
When you find an altcoin that interests you, go deep. Study how it’s being used. Talk to people who use it. Talk with the development team. Look at its adoption rate, its potential market size, its price history. These things will give you confidence in your winners and losers — and confidence, as we’ve seen, drives price.
His post is much longer, and more of it is copied (and shuffled a bit), but this is enough to bust him.

Original: https://www.bitcoinmarketjournal.com/altcoin-investing-101/

It's ironic, he wrote this today:
Sourcing it is fine. The rule indicates that the user in question is passing it off as their own. Citing a source ≠ plagiarism (unless there's improper citing).
Citing the source is one thing but copy/pasting should be assessed on a case-to-case basis.

I've seen some users simply copy pasting news articles on coindesk and pasting them here without any attempt at discussion at all. If this goes unchecked pretty soon you could have bots using forum keywords to search for online articles to copy paste here.
23300  Other / Meta / Re: Merit became a business. What to do? on: April 23, 2018, 04:53:51 PM
Is there any such clear statement available? Can you please quote it?
I know Merit sources aren't allowed to sell Merit, but other users don't have any restrictions. Disclaimer: I'm not buying (Lol) nor selling Merit.

Quote
Theymos said not to worry from the point of running out sMerits not from the point of open buying/selling IMO.
I guess I'll have to dig into theymos' post history:
Merit sales, transfers to aliases, back-and-forth trading, etc. are not much of an issue. All illegitimate merit will decay, and will account for a tiny and very expensive fraction of the total merit economy. It's basically a rounding error; fight it where convenient, but waste no sleep over it.
