2341  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The most convincing information about Bitcoin to bring in friends on: August 13, 2011, 05:22:39 AM
I mentioned bitcoins to a friend to take on as a hobby in response to "what should I take on as a hobby". After I briefly stated "bitcoins!" they replied with "whats that?" this is my response

It is a currency that is limited in amount, just like gold. Its digital so you can send it across the web so there is only a 10 minute wait time(instead of 2-3 days with regular banks). The transactions are tiny so you get more of what you pay for and it is distributed by everyone. Kind of cool huh?

Excellent hook Wink

Edit: oh yeah then at the end of the quote i posted a link to www.WeUseCoins.com
2342  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How helpfull would it be to shoot a bitcoin block chain up into deep space? on: August 13, 2011, 05:18:24 AM
Just shield it in lead, it would be a lot cheaper.

Can you elaborate?

Edit: So your basically just suggesting that someone builds a shielded box and sets it underground?(I'm assuming the underground part) thats is always connected to the internet?
Umm... it would be a lot easier running cables underground than into space. Satellites are typically designed to broadcast to a wide area, not as a node. I don't get the point of using a satellite for bitcoin. Are you also planning a global satellite communications system to support the satellite?

yes there will be a link to the satellite that will be maintained in every country, but any consumer should be able to purchase a satellite of their on in this theory.

I think my partners argument is securing the bitcoinnetwork and that it could be a last resort if every block chain some how got corrupted in the event of a catastrophic event such as bombings of WW3?
My argument is that it could be used for other things like sending bitcoins from anywhere in the world with out internet connections.

The point of it being in deep space is that nobody should be able to just missle launch it if in the event that it was a last resort of the block chain.

2344  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / How helpfull would it be to shoot a bitcoin block chain up into deep space? on: August 13, 2011, 04:04:23 AM
Okay so me and a friend of mine have been discussing this idea and were not sure how helpful it would be may be other knowledgeable bit coiners could help on this subject?

So we were thinking about sending a satellite into space... DEEP space. We are well aware that their is a time delay since the speed of light is constant.
We're not sure if its possible to keep a constant connection with the satellite in the event that a WW3 happens or some catastrophic event that every major ISP in the world shut down for what ever reason and we're force to rely on the deep space satellite for a synchronized block chain.

So our question to you bitcointalk, Do you think it is economically feasible for everyone to have satellites ready to be auto-calibrated for deep space satellite for the most updated block chain in the event of a all the ISP's going out and the Internet getting cut out?

Could I instead go to Vault 8? At least I'd have plenty of water chips...

That reminds me you could always go into that one vault with the "matrix like" system setup in it... You could have alot more fun in there I think
2346  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [Scheduled Hack-A-Thon] RSVP Here to have a hack at my upcomming website. on: August 12, 2011, 12:07:18 PM
Yes brandon@sourcewerks, Everything is open for hacking. The exception is anything that could be done to damage my servers hardware, or anything that is irreversible is not allowed. If you think you know of a flaw that would cause such disaster please let me know the steps to come to this conclusion.

Other then that I want everyone to basically just de-face the $*&^T out of my website. You know the kind of attacks you see about when a hacker gets access they usually throw up some swastikas and then scribble latin satan chants overlying the logo. Scince my website is not public(officially) I don't think any consumers are aware of the website either way yet so like i said de-face it!!!! Make people purchase stuff(will implant fake customer accounts just for the sake of proper testing, some will have shipped items, purchased items, items waiting to be purchased, etc, etc). Heres another good idear Hack into my database and  set all paid transaction required to be payed again... go Crazy!!!!^%%#@!! with teh hax!!

Hackthissite.org has a really good hacking philosophy (http://www.hackthissite.org/pages/info/billofrights/)

it says
Quote
2. Users are allowed to explore Hack This Site in search of security holes, bugs, etc. provided that they do not exploit them for destructive purposes. We encourage people to 'hack this site' but we ask that they leave the website up for others to benefit and learn from. More information about hacking this site available here. We ask that you submit a bug report if you do find one.

I hope that clears this up for everyone as I've been thinking about the rules and fine lines my self over the past couple of days, its hard to say "hack my site but don't destroy it" its kind of contradictory but I hope this explains everything.

I don't think there will be any media coverage for Bitcoin convention so I figured I'd let all the bitcoiners that can't make it to the convention be able to pass the time with some hacking? I was thinking the start date 17th and then length of the hackings will go on as long as they must.

I'm happy to see some of you guys agree with destroying Facebook!  I mean after all who controls the internet ? how are we sure its not the governments ?  And after watching the social network why would anyone trust zuckerburg ( bloodsucker) with ur personal info?  Oh the tragedy come November 5!
So, is it just going to be some bad-ass DDoS attack?

I remember when The Social Network (2010) came out; there was a small DDoS for a few days.
I'm thinking some anons will take advantage of the scurry of admins trying to get the DDoS to stop and while they are doing that they will probubly find a hole durning this panic Smiley

Thinking about starting early I'm just doing some touch up's and just messing around on the site to see if i can just randomly break it.

I've heard of OpFacebook, I just thought they dropped it. But now they have a hack-date... wow... I hope they get rid of my personal info too. I deleted my face book a few months back but I wish i would have overwriting my information before deleting. But who knows maybe they have super-backups an exact backup for everyones file..... well its too late now for me. I thought Anon was being really annoying lately but I like this operation it makes sense, we need our personal info to our selves and to those we give it to should be kept safe. Go Anon!

Very reliable and easy to use, I like their graphs and their customer service is really responsive the only issue is low volume i think. Nice 2-auth feature for security Smiley

I'd rather die in a vault that I could potentially get out of by just killling an over seer then to get locked up in space staggering around like a limp bambi trying to find an escape pod, which you never know if that escape pod has controls or maybe it just shoots in one direction and that direction could very well be the sun.
