So this site is basically pretending to be this site?  Any risk of visiting that site?  Or only if you visit it and enter your login information?

2343  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Claiming Bitcoin Cash and Gold On New Computer and Nano Ledger S? on: March 31, 2019, 11:16:18 PM
HCP, one other question before I do this and will post back.  But as of now, you cannot use the ledger wallet chrome anymore?  Or you could still use it?

Also if i remove waves and bitcoin wallet and cannot install bitcoin, bitcoin cash and bitcoin gold wallet... do i even have the option to send the bitcoin in my ledger live to somewhere else or its not possible because i removed the bitcoin wallet?

So if someone say did not have their 24 word seed at that moment after removing the bitcoin app from ledger live... they are screwed?  But if you could use still the ledger wallet on chrome then its still fine?
2344  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Is $25 XLM worth your privacy (identify). on: March 31, 2019, 11:12:43 PM
Can someone explain what information you need to give to get $25 worth of XLM?  Also it is sent to your blockchain account?
2345  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Cryptocurrency is too complicated on: March 31, 2019, 03:25:08 AM
I have to agree with all this.  For the average person, its quite complicated.  Unless you only hold btc and the main other coins and keep it in say coinbase, could you imagine having to teach them how to use electrum or hardwallet wallet and these things have issues?

2346  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Claiming Bitcoin Cash and Gold On New Computer and Nano Ledger S? on: March 31, 2019, 03:10:39 AM
HCP thanks.  I will get back to you on this.  I have to find the 24 word phrase as i have it hidden somewhere and have to look.
2347  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Storing my seed in Lastpass on: March 30, 2019, 11:18:46 PM
The other thing is this.  Most ppl store passwords on these programs.  So its not safe putting your 12 word or 24 word seed on it?  Because someone still need to know your password to lastpass or keepass.  But if someone installed malware or trojan, then it record your keystrokes so that means all your passwords are not safe?
2348  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Claiming Bitcoin Cash and Gold On New Computer and Nano Ledger S? on: March 30, 2019, 11:16:39 PM
HCP thanks.  So that means that you also had to uninstall bitcoin and the other versions because you had the same issue too?  So wouldn't mean everyone would have this same issue?  I mean how could you NOT have this issue then?

Okay so the 3rd option of just updating the firmware to 1.5.5 and then trying to download bitcoin cash and gold wallet isn't an option?
2349  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Is $25 XLM worth your privacy (identify). on: March 30, 2019, 10:24:03 PM
Can you still get this now?  So anyone can get it but what info you need to give?
2350  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Claiming Bitcoin Cash and Gold On New Computer and Nano Ledger S? on: March 30, 2019, 10:16:17 PM
I went to bitcoin on the ledger nano... click the about... it shows version 1.3.1.

So based on that... you recommend me updating the firmware 1.5.5 first while the nano ledger is plugged inside my laptop?

OR

Just uninstall waves and then bitcoin wallet and then reinstall bitcoin, then waves, then bitcoin cash and gold and if there is issue, update to firmware 1.5.5?

Also im curious but even if you use your nano ledger s everyday, do you even get an update for when bitcoin wallet version updates?  Example it doesn't alert you when there is a new update right?  So wouldn't that mean the issue im having... almost everyone will be having this issue?  Or its because i did not update ledger live and the firmware for a while?  But if someone uses the nano ledger every other day and updates whatever is necessary that is showing on the nano ledger whether its ledger live or the firmware, they would never have this issue?

Did you ever have this message i have HCP?  And curious how often you use your nano ledger s?  By that i mean just plugging it into to your computer and not doing transactions.

Because if any of this is the case, then i guess its best to just plug the nano ledger s and open ledger live every other day etc so i won't have an issue like this?

2351  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Claiming Bitcoin Cash and Gold On New Computer and Nano Ledger S? on: March 30, 2019, 09:50:46 PM
Then it shows the release note and says your 24 word phrase is not required but make sure its within reason as a precaution.
I do not have the 24 word phrase with me at the moment.  So i should not do this right now?
Up to you... it *shouldn't* wipe the device... but as they say, if something does go wrong, and you end up having to completely wipe/reset the Nano, then you'll need the 24 words to restore the device.

Quote
Or do I just do what you say and uninstall all the apps first?  You say uninstall bitcoin last.  I only have waves and bitcoin wallet i believe?  How do i know which wallet i have in it?  Because when i scroll through it, there is waves, bitcoin, settings and it goes back to waves.  So i only have 2 right?
If you only see Bitcoin and Waves listed on the device... they are they only coin apps you have installed.

Quote
And when i uninstall waves and then bitcoin, then install bitcoin, bitcoin cash and bitcoin gold right?  Then install waves since im planning to use it later on?
Yes

Quote
There is nothing that can go wrong when i uninstall waves and bitcoin right?
No.

Quote
When i uninstall bitcoin, that mean the ledger live will show i have no bitcoin there in the portfolio or accounts right?  But once i download bitcoin wallet right afterwards from manager, it should be there?  Or i download it and then press plus and create account so it look like how it does now?
No... that's not how it works... once an account is "imported" into Ledger Live, it stays there until you remove it... it makes no difference what apps you have installed on the device itself.

When you add the coinapps to the Nano, it won't automatically accounts into Ledger Live... you will need to click the "+" to add accounts, then select which ones you want to add to Ledger Live.

Quote
But if i can't install bitcoin 1.3 etc after all of this, then install the firmware to 1.5.5 right?  Which firmware are you using now?  Do you know why in the world i have this issue where i cannot install bitcoin cash or bitcoin gold etc?  I mean i just updated ledger live now... why doesn't that solve the issue?
Because you don't have the latest Bitcoin app on the device... it isn't that you need Bitcoin installed... you need the LATEST bitcoin app installed.

1.  Hi there.  I have the 24 word phrase put somewhere at the moment and will look for it in a bit.  I wrote the 24 word phrase a while back when i first got it.  I never did test the 24 word phrase so to speak.  But i did make sure i looked carefully at all the word before writing each one extremely carefully.  There was an app i recalled in the app where you could test your 24 word phrase that you mentioned not long ago.  But i cannot do this now right since i cant install anything?

Okay thanks yes waves and bitcoin is only what i see on the device.

2.  Okay so when i remove waves and bitcoin wallet from the ledger, it will still show the amount of btc i have there and the balance of it right?  When i uninstall bitcoin, will i see the accounts (1) bitcoin under it there or not?  I just don't want any surprises as a little thing like that would freak me out.

3.  I see new version of bitcoin to install is 1.3.2.  So there is no way to know what version im using now right?  Okay so because i didn't bother installing any new apps the last few months and didn't do any update to the ledger live until today, this is the reason im having this issue?  Thus say you haven't touched it for 2 months.  Then you notice you could update ledger live and do it.  You will have issues like this?  But say you are someone who use it almost every other day etc, then there would be no issue since you would update ledger live when necessary?  Or that wouldn't even work because when bitcoin app updates to like 1.4 or 1.5, you wouldn't know about it and everyone eventually have the same exact issue here?

May i ask what firmware you are using now?  Are you using 1.4.2 or 1.5.5?  I just want to make sure i do the same thing as you.
2352  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Leaving Behind Crypto When You Are Gone? on: March 30, 2019, 09:41:41 PM
Like to add something to this.  Binance and Bittrex give you a code for your phone for 2FA in case you ever lose your phone device connected to it.  Does the family need to have the codes for both of these to access it?

Of course if someone in the family knows how to use crypto and can do everything themselves and claim it themselves, that would be easier.  But most family or relatives i assume don't.  But even if they do, they have to contact an accountant on this since its going to be a mess right especially if they have no idea if their family member paid entire taxes, some taxes or no taxes on it?

Also a related question.  But if someone has your bittrex or binance secret code, they can't reset your device right or they could just by having that?  Or they need to know at least your email address at least?
2353  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Leaving Behind Crypto When You Are Gone? on: March 30, 2019, 09:38:15 PM
Read examples of people gone and they never gave their family or relatives their keys to their crypto.  How do most of you handle this?  Now if you have everything in your nano ledger s or trezor or even electrum for example, well you give them the 12 or 24 word seed and they have it.  Now i thought of some issues.  What if they dont know how to operate a computer?  Who do they turn to?  Are there bitcoin services where when someone is gone, their family or relatives go to that service and say this is the code or phrase for the crypto and they mention if its stored in a hardware wallet or exchange or electrum etc and have that service get their crypto for them for a price?  Like it will cost $100 or $500 for the service?  Such as they would then transfer the crypto to the family's own wallet or contact the exchange and have them set up the crypto to be sent to their family member's account?

The other issue comes then is taxes.  Most likely that person who has crypto stored most likely did not pay all or most or any of the taxes assuming they were holding for a long time.  Now if they paid all the taxes, well you could transfer the money to the family member but there is only a certain limit they can transfer a year without taxes i believe right?  This is concerning ppl in the US  Now what if that person paid taxes on some of it or none of it.  Well the family can't just take the money into their bank account since that person didn't pay any or entire taxes of it.  So how in the world would that work then?  Because when you file taxes on crypto, it needs to be written down when was the coin bought and sold and at what prices.  The family or relative wouldn't have a damn clue about it.  They also wouldn't know when they got it and say that person was a trader, they wouldn't have access to say the 500 or 1000 plus transactions that person did etc even if most were basically buying bitcoin and selling it for altcoin immediately since most altcoin you can't go from altcoin to usd or usdt etc.

Does anyone have experience or tips on this?  I think leaving crypto behind in a hardware wallet is the easiest right?  But what if some were in an exchange like bittrex or binance?  Do they contact bittrex or binance about it and then send in the paperwork?  Of course they would need that person's binance or bittrex email address and that person most likely had 2FA.  How does that work then?  I assume coinbase probably would be the easiest to work with?  Now let say that person also had their own wallets in their computer like for example bluecoin or greencoin where its not compatible with hardware wallet and they have some of these wallets on their computer.  Now if their family has the seed or phrase for this, they can claim it but if they have no clue how to do this on computer, are there services that allow this?  So imagine someone has crypto in their trezor or ledger and some in computer like bluecoin and greencoin and some in binance and coinbase.  Are there services that would help them recover all these for a fee?  Thus they would help that family email binance of coinbase assuming that family doesn't even know how to use computer?  Such as that person left behind a paper that says

ledger wallet seed

24 word phrase

binance

email
password

coinbase

email
password

bluecoin wallet

account adfsmskdj
password lkfasdjfsdfas

greencoin wallet

accounta sdfdskjjksda;jasdfj
password aflkdskafjdsjfas;jldf

Are there places where they can bring this to in public like an office or something and that company or business help them recover everything for a fee?  I assume it probably would be like a fee for each place its located?

Then they probably have to contact an accountant with all these accounts right?
2354  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Claiming Bitcoin Cash and Gold On New Computer and Nano Ledger S? on: March 30, 2019, 09:19:27 PM
Hey hcp thanks for the reply.  Okay will make sure i edit my replies now as oppose to making more replies as its confusing.

Okay i tried to install bitcoin gold right now without updating firmware and i get that same message.  When i tried to click on update firmware to 1.5.5, it give me message please uninstall all apps to make room for the update.  Uninstalling does not affect your crypto assets.

Then it shows the release note and says your 24 word phrase is not required but make sure its within reason as a precaution.

I do not have the 24 word phrase with me at the moment.  So i should not do this right now?

And when i uninstall waves and then bitcoin, then install bitcoin, bitcoin cash and bitcoin gold right?  Then install waves since im planning to use it later on?

Also before i attempt any of this, i should make sure i have my 24 word phrase with me at the moment just in case right?  What im worried about is some firmware update that gets frozen and this happened last time and i freaked out.

Okay i just clicked on update ledger live as i saw this.  It did updated.  Firmware version shows 1.4.2.  But next to it shows firmware version 1.5.5 is available.  Do i update the firmware first before downloading the bitcoin gold and cash wallets?

Tried to install bitcoin gold app first from Manager.

Message shows bitcoin and eth apps required.  Install the latest bitcoin and eth apps first.

I already have btc app installed.  So i then tried to install btc app and it says i already have it...

So i need to install ETH app even though i don't have eth?

Firmware version is 1.4.2 if that means anything?

2360  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Buying Used Computer Equipment For CryptoCurrency Unsafe? on: March 30, 2019, 07:56:13 PM
Hey all related question.  So i want to buy a security camera for my apartment.  The reason is because if there are any thieves or if someone were to access my laptop and do something with it and then leave it as is and then if i use it, then i might have no idea they installed malware/trojan or anything like that.

Im going to buy a camera on amazon and i notice some reviews, they say the camera is hacked etc.  Reviews were like they heard or saw someone viewing their home or apartment with it.

Now if that is the case, does that mean they could view your keystrokes or anything you view on your laptop or anything like that?  However, if you are setting it up with only your cell phone which most of these security cameras seem to do, then thats fine?  I want to buy a security camera and point it at my door when im not there or even there but one concern is if it gets hacked, could i potentially hack my laptop or something or internet network or hack my wallet?  Or make sure you get a security camera where you dont read anything like this in the reviews.
