Yes and this was very doable since apparently they haven't spent more than 7,000 euros for the whole attack. This amount you earn on one busy weekend in any Brussels bar!

i love reuters second paragraph.. september 11th cost $400k due to pilot lessons..
... hmm i seem to remember them using microsoft flight simulator.. $40
23402  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: No fee market with small blocks thanks to BlockPriority of BTCChina on: November 21, 2015, 09:43:22 AM
Could other big players start colluding with exchanges and wallet services like blockchain.info to prioritize their traffic?
I once made a transaction and saw on blockchain.info the network penetration % and it was very high, over 90% very quickly, within seconds I think. Is that a useful measurement of the "rapid confirmation" that already occurs on the network? Does that % mean that 90% of the miners have already verified my transaction?

How long do free transactions typically take to confirm anyway?
Wasn't there recently an orphan block from BTCC that perhaps had an attempted double-spend?

confirmations are about miners solving blocks which contain x,y,z transactions..

getting x,y,z it into the mempool ready to be added to a block is a separate matter..

if your bitcoin-core has been set up with added supernodes of the main mining farms. then your TX is sitting in the mempools of the miners, without issues in an instant.. .. so thats not really a concern. especially on this topic..
but that wont help your tx get confirmed any faster..

now the question is, will the miners choose your tx to be added to the next block out of all the tx's in the mempool waiting along side your tx.. does it have a fee, is it from or going to a recognised and prefered service?

greed has finally taken over freedom...
https://blockchain.info/charts/avg-block-size?timespan=30days
this proves that there is more than enough space to add more transactions to each block,.. that delays in confirmations is not the fault of block limits. but of greedy and prejudicial miners who choose which tx's should pass, rather then just letting them all in first come first serve.

23403  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: No fee market with small blocks thanks to BlockPriority of BTCChina on: November 21, 2015, 06:53:33 AM
well BTCC only have 13% of the hash.. thats 1 block an hour roughly..

so while BTCC says they will prioritize customers. the truth is that the other 5 main pools each hour will ignore the fee-free transactions. and thus customers of
BTCC are not going to actually get instant recognition on the blockchain.. just a slight boost in the chance of a confirm within the hour..

to me, not really big news about BTCC. and not really much of a promise from them..

to me, i see it as another precedent. the first precedent we seen was when miners ignored tx's without fee's. next precedent we will see, is all miners getting ignorant of tx's not from their favourite services.

so goodluck to anyone trying to do private transactions person to person. as i see all the big players picking a centralized service to cater to, and ignoring tx's that are not using those services.

the french saga was funded using Euro's which came from selling a bar(pub) in brussels.

the brussels bar, years ago was purchased using a brussels business bank loan..
and repayments were made, profits were made by brussels patrons paying to get drunk over the years.

there was no money laundering or bitcoin, or cash in hand transactions.. the bar was sold legitimately to someone that wanted to genuinely own a bar

the terrorists rented a car using a credit card funded from the legal sale of a bar..

in short the paris attack was funded by a brussels (EU) bank.

23406  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin and the fashion industry. on: November 21, 2015, 12:33:24 AM
(Pics here)
Those aren't real fashion items.

Ours is name brand designer fashion...that's what we meant. Anyone can copy the bitcoin logo and paste it on a shirt or hoodie. We're making coats, shoes, (even high heels), dresses, suits, etc.....

This is probably why we need fashion advocates as adopters to thoroughly explain what name brand designer fashion actually is.

I mostly agree with this sentiment. screen printing a design on something is actually graphic design, fashion design would imply construction of garments... its oranges and apples though... like when people say they are curators because they made a list of something... actual curatorial practice involves a lot more than organizing things into a group, but most people dont care. my local taco truck has a menu that says it has been "curated" by so-&-so... only people with fine arts degrees notice how dumb this is.

Joseph Beuys said "Every man woman and child is an artists, there are no non-artists." he didn't specify that some of those "artists" get it and some dont.

BTC world is rife with lousy art. terrible fashion. awful music. Hobbyists clamoring to make a quick buck on the coat tails of a trend. Faddish and lacking in imagination. Tacky. Art and commerce have never had a good relationship. Its as simple as that.

I would qualify these as novelty apparel items. you should too, because the world of actual fashion designers will ridicule you into oblivion.

i agree with your sentiment. but my point was more about the type of clothing/product. EG a tie with a logo as oppose to a woolly sweater.. rather than how it was created.

for instance. cravats/scarves have a bigger demograph than woolly sweaters.
a decent woolly scarf with a bitcoin logo could outsell a woolly sweater with a bitcoin logo..
23407  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Eliminate the need to hold dollars, legalize the use of BTC to pay taxes!!! on: November 20, 2015, 11:28:55 PM
So I recently saw a petition to legalize the use of Bitcoin in the USA for paying state and federal taxes. Now I know no one likes paying taxes, but as long as they are necessary, and as long as dollars are needed to pay them...well, Bitcoin can never be your ONLY money supply. Thus, why not help the push for Bitcoin adoption and lets legalize the CHOICE to pay taxes in Bitcoin.

Sign the petition below! And help us get the first 150 signatures! After 150, the petition becomes public and "searchable" within the database.

http://wh.gov/iV5Nq

seriously?? are you that naive.

i feel that you literally do not understand what bitcoin is about. and why bitcoin is better than fiat.. and instead want to turn bitcoin into fiat..

do you have a clue about circulation and control.
bitcoin is not going to replace fiat.. wake up to that fact.

bitcoin however can work along side fiat. imagine it like creating a whole new country, where bitcoin is treated like a foreign currency in regards to laws.
where you still pay taxes but in the native debt notes of the land you reside in..

what we do not need is handing atleast 10% of actual bitcoins to government/banks. as that 1btc. turns into 0.9btc in circulation and as it passes each person eventually 0.00000001 is in public circulation, while 0.99999999 is held for long term investment by US government /banks. whilst they still pay dollars to socia security using their 'fiat money creation' methods..

we do not want or need governments holding bitcoin. we do not want or need governments controling bitcoin. we do not want or need governments eventually 'price setting' bitcoin due to their hoards and controls..

in short.
why give governments real assets such as bitcoin.. if they are happy to receive their crappy pieces of paper and banking sql database balances known as fiat..
then give them that crappy debt ridden currency.. dont be stupid to hand over real assets!!
23408  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BIG NEWS: Europen Union Cracking Down on Bitcoin on: November 20, 2015, 04:00:42 PM
You're right. But it is so easy to fool the public. And I think we all here knew that in one or other these terrorist attacks will be used by the governments to push forward some of their agendas and schemes. Imo it was so obvious that they would come up with some bs that ISIS use Bitcoin.Banning cash is a plan that exists since a long time. These happenings are the best fuel they can get.
But even banning Bitcoin and vanishing cash will not stop terror. It's all about control over the masses.Power and control!
But the average seems to be too stupid to see it and too naive to believe it!

Naiive, stupid maybe not. Personally Most people really don't care they want to be controlled or they think the ignorance is bliss.
God it makes me angry. We all know that bigbrother is slowly creeping up on us and we are out stretching our arms to welcome it.
It makes me wish I didn't have kids it really does.

do you want to know the most funniest thin of all..

President obama made some executive orders over syria and sanctioned syria was in regards to human rights abuses..
.. but not about killings.. it was about syrian government monitoring its own population.
(can anyone see how hypocritical that is)
https://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2012/04/23/fact-sheet-sanctions-against-those-complicit-grave-human-rights-abuses-i

Quote
Twenty-first century threats to human rights require twenty-first century tools to combat them.  This Administration recognizes that some oppressive governments seek to target their citizens for grave human rights abuses through the use of information and communications technology.
In an Executive Order signed today, President Obama authorized a new program of sanctions, aimed at those who facilitate serious human rights abuses in Syria and Iran through such means.

The same Global Positioning System (GPS), satellite communications, mobile phone, and Internet technology employed by activists across the Middle East and North Africa and around the world is being used against them in Syria and Iran, as the world has witnessed particularly clearly in Syria in recent weeks.  The Syrian and Iranian governments are rapidly increasing their capabilities to disrupt, monitor, and track communications networks that are essential to the ability of Syrians and Iranians to communicate with each other and the outside world.

The Executive Order announced today by President Obama establishes financial and travel sanctions against those who perpetrate or facilitate “Grave Human Rights Abuses Via Information Technology” in Syria and Iran (or “GHRAVITY sanctions”) and will:

• Degrade the ability of the Syrian and Iranian governments to acquire and utilize such technology to oppress their people;

• Hold accountable those government officials, companies, and individuals committing or facilitating human rights abuses.
• Send a clear message that the United States recognizes and is committed to combating this new and growing human rights threat;
• Further isolate the regimes in Damascus and Tehran;
• Strengthen international norms against using information and communications technology to commit human rights abuses;
The order authorizes sanctions against persons determined:

• To have operated, or to have directed the operation of, information and communications technology that facilitates computer or network disruption, monitoring or tracking that could assist in or enable serious human rights abuses by or on behalf of the Government of Iran or the Government of Syria;

in short syria, which has no human rights laws .. is being held as abusing human rights for snooping on its own citizens..

yet countries that recognise human rights are allowed to breach the same human rights, when they snoop..
23409  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin giant BTCC launches priority blockchain transactions for its customers on: November 20, 2015, 03:32:04 PM
Maybe in few weeks every pools will have an accounting system where users will be able to push their tx by paying a plus, if they want a faster confirmation.

blocks get solved when blocks get solved.. nothing changes that.

the only thing this topic is saying is that BTCC mining pool will not ignore tx's that have no fee...
that is all..

but it does not mean other pools will automatically include a zero fee tx, thus when other pools mine blocks. the BTCC zero fee customers wont hit the blockchain..
especially when BTCC only has 13%.. thats like 1 block an hour is BTCC..

so, its no guarantee..
23410  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin giant BTCC launches priority blockchain transactions for its customers on: November 20, 2015, 02:58:14 PM
not really big news.. they just push tx's to their pool. and the pool ensures they add it to the next block..

however, at only 13% total hash. there is still no guarantee peoples tx will be in the next block, as other pools also solve blocks which may not have included BTCC tx's.

so although it can be advantageous.. its not a guarantee. and its not a 'instant acceptance' either.. the tx still needs to be confirmed.

23411  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin - one of the Terrorists Funding Sources on: November 20, 2015, 11:08:18 AM

cityam says: "according to reuters"..
yet reuters source is an EU memo
yet when using the find function of the web browser. the EU memo never says the word 'bitcoin' and or 'cryptocurrency'. but when you search virtual currency.. 1 hit appears.. in regards to ensuring exchanges follow AML/KYC..

seriously media needs to research better and stop copy and pasting stories.

here is the memo that all media is speculating at:
http://europa.eu/rapid/press-release_MEMO-15-6115_en.htm

search
"bitcoin" = no hits
"crypto" = no hits
"virtual" = 1 hit

can we now ask the OP to rename the topic as debunked.. and then lock it so it cant be bumped by sheep not even bothering to read it and going nuts thinking the media is right
23412  Economy / Economics / Re: How much Coca Cola can you buy with 1 Bitcoin in your country? on: November 20, 2015, 10:45:36 AM
the bitcoin purchase price index, looks good. especially when things get more measured in spendable value of actual items and not directly fiat.

In South Africa, So 1BTC buys 341 liters of tooth decay.

1.5 Liters of Coke cost around BTC0.00333454 here in my country as of the current exchange rate.

So if I have BTC1, I can purchase  ... damn can't do the Math lol. 451 ltrs

my maths for me:
UK: 414.5ltrs for 1btc
23414  Economy / Economics / Re: How much Coca Cola can you buy with 1 Bitcoin in your country? on: November 20, 2015, 06:47:00 AM
ok folks this could turn out to be a great thing..

lets pick a few internationally standard products and create a consumer price index for bitcoin:
1) 2litre bottle of coca cola (the most standardized size internationally)
2) apple ipad
3) McDonalds bigmac meal
4) subway foot-long

then put the values together to equate to a bitcoin consumer price index for each region

kind of funny

the paris attackers lived in brussels, and sold their bar(pub) to buy the weapons and rent a car...
so no bitcoin use there...

the british attack on 7/7 2005 and american attack in 9/11 2001 was before bitcoin was even invented.

so will people please use logic and common sense, then read beyond the headline and research facts..

Real Bitcoin.
here is the order in which things should happen if you want longterm success.

3﴿ INCOME:bitcoin jobs
4﴿ EDUCATION: good guide to newbies
5﴿ DATABASE:a bitcoin search engine
6﴿ GLOBAL ECONOMY: Global financial problems could boost bitcoin's growth
2﴿ PUBLIC OPINION:PR teams to improve bitcoin's public opinion
1﴿ MARKETING:organized promotion campaigns
7﴿ SOCIAL ASPECT:a more integrated & united community
8﴿ LEADERSHIP:social Idols promoting/endorsing/using their influence to help bitcoin
9﴿ CAPITAL EXPANSION: a stable lending system
10﴿ GENDER RELATIONS:women interested in Bitcoin

if anyone believes the order is incorrect and that an increase of users should come before usefulness/understanding.. then i guess your end goal is just a price speculated spike and not a bitcoin economic and infrastructural growth.

points (2) and (1) should not be community funded. but bitcoin business funded.

Nice way to put it, but I think Marketing and PO are the most important, because that is how you introduce people to BTC.

If there is a non-bitcoin person out there and you introduce him to BTC, but he heard about all crazy crap going on around bitcoin, he will be scared to join.

So, a positive PR is definitely needed. Some positive events that could show the world that bitcoin is GOOD (or atleast neutral, judge the wielder not the sword)
skipping to mass marketing/PR and shouting that bitcoin is a new utopian world, but not having any means for people to get onboard, is a futile effort.
so before even telling the world to get on board. we need to build the training facilities. we need to build the easy access ships.

that involves compiling all the learning material first. linking businesses who can offer people jobs. linking businesses who offer products and services to spend.

then... and only then would it be ready for mass adoption..

after all there is no point spending $30million on tv/youtube advertising.. if when people say yea bitcoin is great.. they then get lost, not finding the right information. not knowing if they should trust which exchange. not even finding an exchange to get their currency.. or not even finding a job that pays in bitcoins or not finding somewhere locally to buy toilet paper with it.

to be honest. racing to drag noobs into bitcoin right now sounds more like a pump&dump social experiment.. bitcoin needs to evolve a little more in regards to noob usefulness and noob training. before we invite said noobs.

thats all im saying

23420  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BIG NEWS: Europen Union Cracking Down on Bitcoin on: November 19, 2015, 11:24:18 PM
What I find ironic is that France did absolutely nothing to stop the Syrian terrorists from entering the country as refugees. Now they're just using the recent Paris attacks to justify "cracking down" on terrorism. Bitcoin can be used to fund terrorism, yes but that does not mean it is necessarily bad. The bankers just don't want to lose their financial grip on the world.

the terrorists LIVED and WORKED in brussels for many years. they owned a bar in brussels. held EU passports.. they then sold the bar to fund their attack.. hiring cars to drive from brussels to paris..

so:
1. they were not refugee's
2. it was like a KKK member from texas where they lived for years, driving to new york..
3. they sold the bar for Euro's.

also the OP of the top post has quoted a coin media outlet, who has tweaked the story, which was then using a reuters news outlet as the source. where reuters also tweaked the story, where a 'memo' was used as a source

the source
http://europa.eu/rapid/press-release_MEMO-15-6115_en.htm

if you just use your browsers find function... has no mention of 'bitcoin'
and the only reference to virtual currency, is in regards to strengthening AML/KYC.

so folks.. the short story is.. never believe a headline!!!! always research the source and learn a thing or two
