2361  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Buying Used Computer Equipment For CryptoCurrency Unsafe? on: March 30, 2019, 07:56:01 PM
Hey all related question.  So i want to buy a new security camera for my apartment.  The reason is because if there are any thieves or if someone were to access my laptop and do something with it and then leave it as is and then if i use it, then i might have no idea they installed malware/trojan or anything like that.

Im going to buy a camera on amazon and i notice some reviews, they say the camera is hacked etc.  Reviews were like they heard or saw someone viewing their home or apartment with it.

Now if that is the case, does that mean they could view your keystrokes or anything you view on your laptop or anything like that?  However, if you are setting it up with only your cell phone which most of these security cameras seem to do, then thats fine?  I want to buy a security camera and point it at my door when im not there or even there but one concern is if it gets hacked, could i potentially hack my laptop or something or internet network or hack my wallet?  Or make sure you get a security camera where you dont read anything like this in the reviews.

2363  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Claiming Bitcoin Cash and Gold On New Computer and Nano Ledger S? on: March 30, 2019, 07:49:22 PM
Actually from the steps i listed, first install bitcoin cash and gold first in my ledger first before installing electron cash right?  Then the bitcoin gold thing?  That way it would be much faster?

2364  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Claiming Bitcoin Cash and Gold On New Computer and Nano Ledger S? on: March 30, 2019, 07:48:10 PM
HCP, im going to do it with the claiming the bitcoin cash and gold now as you seen from when this thread was created, i still have not done it due to being paranoid of a mistake.

As of now i do have a separate computer to download electroncash on but its windows 7 and i have to do a clean reinstall because im sure not sure 100 percent if the computer is malware free or not.  My currently laptop with windows 10 which i have other wallets and ledger live and everything on it... is fine.  So like you and others say do it on the same machine its fine as long as you take necessary precautions so i will do this.

Also of now, i have no bitcoin in my electrum wallet anymore.  Everything is in my nano ledger.  So the steps now are

1.  Download Electron cash ... make sure its the legit one

2.  Then type in i already have a seed.  Last time you said you could copy/paste the file there or manually type in the 12 word seed.  You seed its better putting the file because you are not exposed to it unlike typing the 12 word seed.  But where is this file on my computer?  So you say do this as oppose to type it out?  I want to do it exactly like you but where is this electrum file so to speak?

3.  I downloaded the bitcoin cash and bitcoin gold programs into my nano ledger s a while back BUT THIS WAS WITH THE CHROME LEDGER... NOT THE LEDGER LIVE.  At the moment, im using ledger live as others here recommended b/c the chrome app is outdated.  When i check my nano ledger and scroll through it, it seems the only coin wallets i installed is btc and waves only right if i scroll and there is only bitcoin, waves and then settings and nothing more?  I however did not connect the waves wallet to it yet.  So basically i only have btc there now.  When you go to accounts under ledger live, there is 1 account and its called btc.

So now i have to download bitcoin cash and bitcoin gold wallet from the manager tab right?  Download bitcoin cash and bitcoin gold one after another?  However when i do this, the only question it will ask me for bitcoin cash wallet is legacy or segwit right?  And because the addresses in my electrum wallet start with a number 1, its legacy?  The thing is, would it ask me anything else like is it a split or something like that?  When looking at the thread earlier, when i installed bitcoin cash and gold wallet into my nano ledger s when i used the bitcoin ledger on chrome, i recalled you mentioned i had to make sure i make sure it was so and so.  But since im using ledger live now, is the only message it will ask me after installing bitcoin cash wallet into ledger live via ledger live is legacy or segwit and thats it?  Then after i do that, install bitcoin gold wallet and it would not ask me anything or it would ask me?

4.  After this, do i need to click the plus button and add more accounts in ledger live?  It shows 1 account and its bitcoin only.  I see if you click on the plus sign, you could add bitcoin cash or bitcoin gold and other coins.  Is this necessary since im claiming bitcoin cash and gold and have it sent to ledger live?

5.  So after i enter the information from electroncash, i will have the bitcoin cash showing on the wallet similar to like how it displays bitcoin in electrum wallet right?  So when i view this wallet, i should first send a small amount of bitcoin cash to the nano ledger s just to make sure it works first before sending the entire balance right?  Also what about the fee?  Better to send it with faster speed right?

However, wouldn't it be good idea before you do any of this, set a password on it similar to like how electrum does it with that 3 form of security?  Thus no password and no encrypt?  Or password and no encrypt or encrypt and encrypt?  Or don't bother with any of this since im planning to send all the bitcoin cash from it the nano ledger live and then no longer would be using it?  I might just delete it right afterwards once the bitcoin cash hits my nano ledger s?

6.  With the bitcoin gold claim.  You mention you could do this with a computer?  What program you need for this?  Someone a while back said you could use an android phone and use coinomi to sweep the bitcoin gold so to speak... then you send it to your bitcoin gold wallet.  At the moment, i do have access to an android phone.  So which of these would you recommend?

I been procrastinating way too long with this due to paranoia.  I didn't open my electrum for a few months because i read those security updates and issues so i just kept some btc there until later on.  And now i sent all the btc i had left from electrum to nano ledger s so i feel better now.  But of course i still have the bitcoin cash and gold that i want to move to my nano ledger s.
2365  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Live Question on: March 30, 2019, 07:01:50 PM
Alright so when i add bitcoin cash and gold in it... this to be done through manager correct and click install?  I see waves is there as well and i believe i installed that a long time ago.  So install bitcoin cash and gold through manager?  Then i have to add it in the account section?  Is there a reason waves isn't available to add in the accounts section?
2366  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Live Question on: March 30, 2019, 06:55:19 PM
After i plug in my ledger s into laptop and enter pin, on it i see bitcoin, then right click there is waves and right click and there is settings.  So that mean i have only have 2 wallets installed on my nano ledger s right
bitcoin and waves?

If i install bitcoin cash and gold, do i need my nano ledger s plugged into laptop when adding bitcoin cash into ledger live?

Also when installing bitcoin cash wallet, i have to set it to either legacy or segwit correct and make sure its correct?  Im going to claim my bitcoin cash and my addresses in electrum start with 1 so make sue i make that legacy right otherwise i have issues?
2367  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Sending Fee? on: March 30, 2019, 06:44:59 PM
Ninja what do you mean trying it through electrum?  You mean you use the nano ledger s but use electrum in conjunction with it?
I meant using your Ledger wallet through the Electrum software instead of the Ledger Live app. It’s basically Electrum but with the hardware wallet functions (better security, requiring a confirmation on the device, etc).

I thought you were trying to make a transaction from your Nano S to another wallet (through the Electrum interface). Sorry.

I sent the btc from electrum to my nano ledger using the minimum fee.  It got there in less than 10 minutes.  Thats amazing.
Yeah. It’s really cheap and fast when the mempool is empty.

HCP mentioned that some ppl use nano ledger s with electrum.  So basically if you did download a fake electrum wallet, that still protects you from everything since its connected to the nano ledger s right?

Oh no i meant transferring the remaining btc i have electrum into the nano ledger s.  Reason being i have small amount there and because i don't want to sort of use it anymore after all these phishing and hacking things that has been happening.  I also didn't even want to open electrum for a while because im worried i get that phishing message and get some issue.

Yea im surprised the btc got sent so quickly for the minimum fee.  Amazing.
2368  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Live Question on: March 30, 2019, 06:42:29 PM
Thanks all for that explanation.

Okay right now i want add other coins to my nano ledger s.  The only ones i added are bitcoin and waves i believe.  It shows waves when i go through my nano ledger by scrolling it but it doesn't show waves in my ledger live account.  So do i have it installed or not?

In ledger live

It shows

Accounts (1)

Bitcoin

So that mean i do not have bitcoin cash or gold installed right?  And how do i do this?  Can i install it without having my nano ledger s connected to it?

Because now i want to claim my bitcoin cash from electron cash as i had btc in electrum at the time of the fork.

Then want to claim bitcoin gold.

I know that my electrum wallet is a legacy wallet as the addresses in it started with a 1

So how do i add the bitcoin cash and gold wallet now in my ledger?  Is there a chance i already added the bitcoin cash?

Im going to send the btc from electrum to nano ledger s now.  Can someone tell me where i can check that option where i could increase the fee later on if i want to if the transaction takes too long and i want to make it faster?
2371  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Sending Fee? on: March 30, 2019, 05:57:20 PM
hi jack but did they receive it yet?
2372  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Claiming Bitcoin Cash and Gold On New Computer and Nano Ledger S? on: March 30, 2019, 04:36:43 PM
Took a look at my electrum 3.3.4 wallet and all the addresses receiving ones start with a 1.

So that is legacy.  But do you know why the other person thought it might be segwit?
2373  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Sending Fee? on: March 30, 2019, 04:34:45 PM
I'm not in any rush to send the btc i have in my electrum to my nano ledger s.  So based on that, i could just do the 1 sat/byte?  Where is the option to check it where you could increase the fee later on if it takes too long?

Also to the person that said they sent yesterday few hours ago with 1 sat/byte, did the btc get sent yet and if so, how many hours total?
2374  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / ZClassic? on: March 30, 2019, 01:30:43 AM
Thoughts on this coin?  Was less than $1 dollar not long ago and now $1.70 already.  This coin went up to like 300 dollars at one point right?  So is it worth a buy now at this price?
2375  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Sending Fee? on: March 30, 2019, 01:29:38 AM
I thought of something else.  If you send with a low fee, is there a chance you could get that message where it say you cannot send with low fee and get that phishing message though?
2376  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Sending Fee? on: March 30, 2019, 12:54:11 AM
Thanks for confirming this.  Can anyone else confirm you cannot send btc without sending a fee with electrum?

And can someone tell me how long it takes for btc to be received sending either 20 sat/byte, 10 sat/byte, 5 sat/byte, 2 sat/byte and 1 sat/byte?

Also if you send it at 1 sat/byte and it takes very long, it eventually will be received even if it takes very long?  But how long though?  Not many days though right?  Like a few hours or so?
2377  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Sending Fee? on: March 30, 2019, 12:25:21 AM
Hi there how long did it take for the transaction to go to the other address at 1 sat per byte?  But it will eventually confirm right or could it get stuck for a long time?

Can others here confirm doing the minimum 1 sat per byte is fine?  Or should i do at least 10 or 20?

Also a long time ago i remember when i used electrum i sent btc without any fee and it worked.  But this was a long time ago and it took a while.  Im curious but could you send btc from electrum with no fee now and if so, does it work?  And if so, how long would that take?
2378  Bitcoin / Electrum / Electrum Sending Fee? on: March 30, 2019, 12:18:14 AM
Im going to send a smaller amount of btc i have left in my electrum to my nano ledger s.  I just updated my electrum from 3.0.5 to 3.3.4.

Its been a while since i sent any btc from electrum to anywhere.  What fee should i set for sending the btc?  Back then a long time ago i know if you send btc, it took a long time for it to get there unless you sent a big fee.

Should i make sure its always within 25 blocks which is 20 sat/byte?  There is also low fee of 10 sat/byte, 5 sat/byte, 2 sat/byte or 1 sat/byte.  I dont mind if it takes a while as i dont need the btc to get to my nano ledger s immediately etc.  But i also dont want an issue where the transfer is taking many hours etc.  Anyone know if doing 10 sat/byte is still fine or its not good idea?
2379  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Live Question on: March 30, 2019, 12:14:21 AM
Okay when i get the message ti verify on the ledger live... i click it.  Then it ask me to confirm on the ledger s.  I right click yes on the nano ledger.

Now there is option to reverify or copy.  So when i want to send btc from electrum to the nano ledger s, just click copy.  Then copy it and post the address to the electrum send to correct and thats good?  Im confused why there is the option to reverify?
2380  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Live Question on: March 30, 2019, 12:05:26 AM
Hi thanks.  So when i get the address, whether i decide to receive btc or not, always click the yes right?  Example right now i saw the code and its the same and i just right click confirm.
It doesn’t really matter... but yeah. Both options will just close the window.

Quote
So has there been times when the address on the ledger live is different from what is showing on the nano ledger s though?  Also its like you have to put it right next to each other as the nano ledger s goes by real fast for you to make sure its correct?
A infected computer could show the wrong address. That’s why there is the device to confirm.

Quote
When i try this again in a short while, will it generate a different address?  So basically the address that is shown now and i clicked confirm even though im not sending it at the moment, i can always send it to that address later on in the future as that address is always one of my address?   I will be sending my remaining btc from my electrum to the nano ledger s in a short while.
It generates a new address everytime the old one gets used. Any address can be used any time, and how many times you want. It’s the same behavior as an Electrum wallet.

Thanks for the reply on this.

Has there been examples of ppl with infected computers and had this happen with the nano ledger s?  So if they have this issue, they basically have to use a different computer or just do a complete reinstall of their operating system?

So basically if you have btc received to your nano ledger say 25 times, well its going to have at least 25 addresses?
