Quick question on the theft issue:

If someone is just running a brute force attack on the whole NXT network attempting to hit the jackpot, wont this activity be very visible in the blockchain?
Way I see it, every password generated by the brute force attack will create an account.
Can anyone (with more skillz than me) have a look at the account creation (possibly vs IP address) stats and see if something wierd is showing up?

You mean account spikes?.....in a linear fashion....as if someone was artificially opening accounts in a fixed amount across a specific time interval?

2362  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 01, 2014, 04:04:54 PM
NXT is like a gun.
Once you squeeze the trigger, you can't stop the bullet.
Safety lock is your pass phrase.
People are asking for additional safety measures so that they or someone else can't squeeze that trigger or that the gun asks them 'are you sure you want to squeeze it?'

Edit:
its simple for us...but for the general public its gonna be too much....pls bank pins are 4 digits....they are not gonna be used to 30+ char.

I know it is a must....but we have to try to see things from the perspective of the everyday person...who we want to adopt this technology.

But I really do believe that some kind of hooks for a 2 factor authorization should be built into the code for transfers above a certain amount.

This makes sense

Edit: A thief could always transfer smaller amounts under the threshold....

it could be a value added service provided by SERVICE PROVIDERS

Only if it's multisig and u trust this service provider.

optional service....people trusted banks in Cyprus.
2365  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 01, 2014, 03:54:26 PM

that doesn't make any sense. there is no "nxt company" to receive the text message.

it could be a value added service provided by SERVICE PROVIDERS
2366  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 01, 2014, 03:52:57 PM
Just a password to send....The function can be optional.

Nxt is decentralized, u can ask the password million times but it won't make ur account more secure if u use a weak master password.

For the record, I hereby vote for implementing an optional 2 factor authorization scheme via cellphone SMS as soon as possible.  All in favor, say aye?

to tie the phone number to the account would be risky.....but you could easily create X amount of anonymous e-mail addresses.

Adding a secondary password?

1 password is enough, just make it stronger.

Just a password to send....The function can be optional.

Wesley, Ferment and Landomata, I want to put my voice in as an investor. I think you guys are doing great stuff.

How do you think this Alias company thing could work?
2369  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 01, 2014, 02:53:24 PM

Regarding your other remarks, these are valid. We'll keep the server-side source closed for now unless there is a major investment of some kind.

Would you guys be interested in wrapping the server side source up in some form of NxtAlias Company....you could pitch the idea and see if the market would want to invest.

We do need a prototype for an IPO on the Nxt Asset Exchange....anyhow something to think about.

Can you explain this concept in a bit more detail or is there a link to read up on this?

We'll clarify the concept over the coming weeks...also Nxt Asset Exchange has to be launch first....I'm hoping before end of January.....will keep you updated.

EDIT:
Dear James

Do you have any suggestions regarding this Alias Initiative?

How could we implement email confirmation for sending of NXT?

A service provider watching the blockchain could do this easily.

This should be implemented...it would remove the possibility all together of Nxt being stolen...would also be another advantage for Nxt
2372  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 01, 2014, 01:44:06 PM

3. Tagging aliases with semantics by using substrings. So say you wanted 22k.io to send you an email when your nxt account received funds, create an alias in your account starting with the "22knotify" in it like "22knotify2014yeehaw" with a "mailto" URI. (NOT IMPLEMENTED - yet!)

All of these would require a new URI scheme for each format so a parser could handle it.

Fun!

Could you get a e-mail if funds where moved out of the account or if it was opened?

Could you pls elaborate more on "decentralised programmable economy"  this is a powerful marketing concept.

....but if all the planned features start running from the Nxt client then you automatically have a social network....alaises, msg, social exchanges, forum etc.

Think it's about the degree to which the NXT client (or plugins I guess?) can integrate and present these features to the user. Like, suppose all these features are implemented. Would be great if you could filter e.g. forum posts from [Friends] in threads (or personal page, if such a feature is implemented) tagged with topic from [Topiclist], trade offers from [Trusted Friends] for items in [Itemlist] and currency in [Currencylist], have them presented to you somewhere convenient, and get linked to the relevant forum thread/marketplace, all from the same app. Not so great if you have to visit each place separately to keep up with what your friends are doing at these places.

I think the more a third party can provide such features on top of the NXT client, the more they will be able to monetize.

cool  Grin   I want this

Do you think NXT value will reach $1 this year? is it a realistic prediction?

Your prediction is extremely conservative.

Is there a wget direct downloadable link for 0.4.8?  the wiki just goes to 0.4.7.  i may have missed it in the last 100 pages of this thread that i didn't get through yet

don't know if this can help.

Wasn't drexme accused of being a scammer? Any updates to this? CfB can you give an "original" link to the newest client?

That is the original link....drexme only started the thread....it's automatically updated once a new client comes out
2380  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 01, 2014, 10:01:27 AM
If it's based on MOBILE it may be possible....

....but if all the planned features start running from the Nxt client then you automatically have a social network....alaises, msg, social exchanges, forum etc.

If it we have all features running smoothly in the mobile app then every Nxter is always connected.

Its name can be simply NXTER.

Socialization is more sophisticated phenomenon than just bunch of features.

I agree...my point is that as more & more people start to interact inside the Nxt ecosystem it automatically become a social network like the others.

you have ur news feeds
buddies thru Alias
msging
marketplace
forums
etc

EDIT: Pls don't let me distract from the original idea......Yes if based on MOBILE it may be possible to monetize.
