2361  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 Oscar Awards betting and discussions on: January 02, 2023, 08:38:48 AM
The difference is that we are not really interested in things taking 3 hours when it can be in 3 minutes. Sure amazing movies such as Lord of the Rings would have been awesome even this day, because it shows not just clear and understandable story telling, and won 11 oscars if I am not wrong, but also it was packed with amazing scenes back to back.

However, if you want to talk about some feelings for 3 hours, I am sorry but it is harder to get box office. Still not impossible, maybe after they get an Oscar they could get high box office, but do not expect beforehand. Now we have this invention called smart phones that show me more in 30 minutes than I can see in 100 hours of award movies.

So, those tiktoks and reels may not be good for us because we are older, but kids aged 20-22 and under grew up with them, and that is all they knew and that is why they have much much lower attention span, and we had less than our parents, soon we won't even have movies that are 3 hours long but 30 minutes long on digital platforms like netflix and disney.

You said very interesting... smartphones.

In the past people still left the house a lot to go to the movies, their intention was to spend an entire afternoon or evening away from home.
So, it's okay if they have to wait half an hour in line for popcorn, another half hour to get in and three hours of movies, because then they'll still spend a few more hours at some restaurant or bar with friends.

Nowadays people don't go out to see movies in theaters anymore (not like they used to), they prefer to watch 40 minutes of an episode of their favorite series, or 5 minutes of a youtuber's daily story, or 5 seconds of a funny video of a tiktoker.

The way we have fun in front of a screen has changed a lot and movies need to adapt to this new reality.

Yet 20 years from now the generation today who spend 5 minutes on youtube stories will still think their generation is better than the old ones who spend hours just lining up to a popcorn stall and watching a 3-hour movie. Give them an interesting story that affects and relates to thier lives and they will surely watch them and even talk about it in the pub.

A country that is just devastated by war will have a generation that will most likely be interested in watching war movies and talking about wars.
2362  Economy / Economics / Re: Turning the Corner Into 2023 on: January 02, 2023, 08:13:44 AM

If you can hold on for the long term beyond 2023, then it will be good for you. The market made 2022 a very dissatisfying year and it's up to you to make the future satisfying.  If you hold still then your 2022 plans may not be as very different as this in 2023.

But is waiting for a bull market a real plan?
I did ask myself as well when I read this question from Reddit, what do you think?

2363  Other / Off-topic / Re: Get to know the Child Phase before teaching Bitcoin and Financial Management. on: January 02, 2023, 07:24:58 AM
We should teach them at the second stage because at that stage they can buy chocolates snacks and even rum errands, to make them understand that there is a digital currency known as bitcoin, this will help them know quick about bitcoin in other to join the moving train when it is the  right time for them. I heard a boy of 15 that his father has 7 btc and the boy was the next of kin to these bitcoin. Lack of proper knowledge on btc made him gave out one btc to someone.

Losing 1BTC may teach the kid many things such as trust. While the article suggests 7-14 years old is the right time to teach a child about investment, I would first establish his skills to live without having the help of someone like teaching him to catch fish with a fishing rod or find a job even in Mcdonalds.

Let him start from the lowest and start climbing up and then let him join me to start a business together and then accept BTC payment. This is my plan when my kid is at the right age already. Maybe after this, he will learn reading charts and trade b better than me.
2364  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is it with Africa and Bitcoin on: January 01, 2023, 07:07:36 PM
I think because of the economy they have and the prices of products are cents where you can already satisfy yourself with unique delicacies and streetfood. Have not been near Africa but I watched some shows about living in Africa where you can have a decent meal for $1. If this is true, you only need an LN wallet and you can live comfortably in this country and forget Bitcoin Beach and El Salvador. Or go straight to Timbuktu
2365  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gervonta Davis VS Hector Luis Garcia SAT, JAN 07, 2023 on: January 01, 2023, 06:26:55 PM
My vote is for Davis too, and I’m excited as to what round this match will last for.
Looking on Luis Garcia record and some replay of his fighting, it seems Davis will end him in the late rounds at least 6+. When he fought a good boxer, Davis is more using his technical skill and learn about the opponent movement, after then he will try to find a good moment to give a strong and clean punch on the face.

Yes, Gervonta Davis is a public figure now and for sure there are people who are going to take advantage of his popularity, either to sensationalized him in a bad or negative way just like what he heard in the last couple of days, specially the timing about it as he has a upcoming fight early January.
If there's a video of how Davis hurt the woman, then we wouldn't see this drama. Anyway I find a Davis history [1] if he's already face many accusations from the past few years, so it's nothing new for him.

[1] https://www.espn.com/boxing/story/_/id/35345736/gervonta-davis-arrest-history-line-abuse-hit-run-charges-denials

There is actually a video of Davis hurting a women, not sure if this is the same women, but this video is very old and I just saw this on twitter. Yeah, he has history of domestic violence and runs with the law, but we can't judge Davis personality though.

As for the fight, and so this fight is a proceed as schedule because the women drop her charge already. And it will be this weekend already so everything have been settled and we will see if Garcia can last against the power of Davis in this fight.

Well, let's see,  Hector Luis Garcia is probably training hard to pull an upset, and we know already how good Davis is, but with the recent challenges he is facing, maybe that will destroy his focus a bit and that gives the edge for Hector Luis Garcia.I'm excited to see this fight, it's a good thing that the charges was already drop, that means no more hindrance for this happening.

It's a bit of a prank on Davis since its all just publication on the news, it could be just to make this fight known be boxing fans.
Yes. It's still on according to some boxing news today. They were already advertising the PPV of it even though Hector doesn't allure PPV. But Davis's action pack would be enough for them.
If there is an upset, will it result in Ryan vs Tank fight being canceled?

2366  Economy / Economics / Re: Legal methods of acquiring free assets on: January 01, 2023, 06:11:23 PM
Are there good methods of legally acquiring free assets people would like to share?
OP, I think you live in the US and if so, you probably know there are states with so-called "bottle bills" which might be an unfamiliar concept to many here.  To anyone who doesn't know, basically if you buy a soda or water or a carbonated drink of some kind, you pay a $0.05 deposit on the can or bottle, which you can later recoup by taking it back to a store that sells whatever brand it is.

I think most countries have this bottle-bills concept. The arrival of plastic bottles made it disappear though. I use to collect some of these bottles in concert venues and sell them. Construction equipment is heavier, only those with the means to lift them will have interest in it.

People may actually be interested in airdrops and faucets in crypto if they do have a value, of course, they just have to make it at least $1 for participants to get curious even if they are altcoins.
2367  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is playing national lottery smart or waste of time? on: January 01, 2023, 05:13:41 PM
I can only count the number of times I bought a lottery ticket. I put all my hopes into it but when I didn't win, I already forget there was hope for it.
Even the scratch lottery, I once thought of buying some of it while in a mall but it's always going to occur in my mind what are my chances of winning. And I stand correct not to play such games.

But I have no doubts that there are people who are lucky enough to have won millions in lottery. Yet we also know they have spent a lot of money buying tickets.
2368  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What would you do if you get a time machine now? on: January 01, 2023, 05:59:20 AM
Almost everyone have opinion about their own benefit, buy at the lowest and then sell when Bitcoin make new ATH at $69,000.

But if I get a time machine, I will create a proposal about merit implementation before ICO booms to eliminating people who promote shitcoins project. Also I will spread FUD about ETH, BNB and any other centralized shitcoins in order to decrease people to invest in shitcoins. So in the long run, people will only stick with Bitcoin and it will cause huge adoption.

If you did, I'm sure the market wouldn't be as developed as it is today, and bitcoin wouldn't be as popular as we're seeing. Without altcoins, there would be no hype in the market, and people wouldn't enter the market, bitcoin would also get boring. What is attracting new investors to the market is shitcoins for their hype and returns, not only bitcoin. Bitcoin alone is not enough to create a cryptocurrency market and without volatility, bitcoin would never be popular.

That's another way of looking at what altcoin's use cases are. And true at the same time because we need hype for people to come to cryptocurrency. I have doubts about merit implementation though, we have tons of legitimate projects in crypto advertised by big men in the industry including popular celebrities but still, we end up with chaos.

What I would do is make BTC very popular from the beginning so that all around the world will try to get ready for the reboot of the BTC blockchain and we can all just mine BTC with a computer. Start all over.
2369  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Do you think that there will ever be an effort to boycott centralized exchanges? on: January 01, 2023, 04:52:07 AM
I think an effective boycott campaign against CEXs is difficult at the moment, CEXs offer a wide variety of services and have a much larger trading volume than DEXs.

Don't forget also the higher fees in DEXs compared to CEXs.

Also, DEXs do not have flexibility in trading, you are forced to work on a specific network and pay specific fees, for example, you work on the Ethereum network and pay fees in Ethereum only, the same for the Binance network or others. This is not necessary in CEXs.

There are other problems with DEXs such as, poor liquidity which leads to a significant increase in price impact. Also sometimes the slippage is big in some coins or tokens.

In short, DEXs are not yet mature enough to replace CEXs.

What we have seen recently was the call to withdraw coins from exchanges though. Although I'm not really sure who in the media was telling people to withdraw coins from exchanges, it seems to have worked when billions were coming out from Binance.

DEX is not very common for regular users, these guys don't want to be responsible for thier own assets. But the swap exchanges like Uniswap and 1inch are being used by millions of us already.
2370  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Should your wife or husband know your seed phrase? on: January 01, 2023, 04:41:28 AM

If you are married and in a good relationship, I see no reason to distrust your partner. It's something in the middle one partner can ask if she/he spends the money on your kids or not. I can only assume a person would ask this sort of question because he has doubts about his wife. Maybe you would just leave the conjugal properties to your partner and then the digital assets to your sons and daughters.

But you might spark a war between them if you give multisig to wife, daughter, and son.  Grin

2371  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Can Now Be Bought Using Apple pay and Google pay On Binance on: December 31, 2022, 02:22:51 PM
The reason I think why both of them have been aggressively banned bitcoin advertisements were due to the proliferation of bitcoin ad scams and that's the action that they have to do to lessen it.

Well, yeah they're centralized platforms but still a good update and innovation that we're seeing since the market is already on the mainstream.

It's very likely that these centralized companies and tech giants has to obliged with the said innovation that they can't stop.

I think it was also during the bear market n in 2018 when they ban the crypto ad. Facebook also joined them in banning crypto. After the announcement, the prices indeed declined terribly.

But it's cool to see their payment system is allowing BTC transactions. There are millions of users from them that will potentially add to pull the price up in the bull run. The next bull market is going to 100K and 2023 I guess might be exciting.
2372  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I now accept bitcoin payments in my Beauty shop on: December 31, 2022, 12:48:36 PM
Congrats on trying that out. It's believed that in Nigeria there is a high rate of BTC adoption so it's still good.

I wonder why you only have decided by this year end when you could have done it a few years ago. Every woman has a male benefactor either thier father or a boyfriend willing to spend top dollar for the beauty of thier girl. Who knows women have thier BTC wallet installed on thier phones already.
2373  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Do exchanges intentionally leak information for brand building ? on: December 31, 2022, 12:15:52 PM

It's CZ's memo. He may have intentionally leaked it for all to reassure them they are fine and he also said they have seen it before. He knows they have been attacked several times so yep it's been planned by CZ. Even in the interviews, he reassures the public that they can withstand the fud.

Hew is obliged to because people will panic more if they just beg for people not to withdraw.
2374  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: I am Bullish On Bitcoin Despite Bear market on: December 31, 2022, 11:43:18 AM
Quote from: fennic
I will buy Bitcoin and other crypto if it came to the 14k level cause I think that at time it should be pumped hard and almost cross 20k dollars in coming weeks.

I think, this is the best time to buy and hold Bitcoin because the price will not decrease to $14,000 before it will start pumping in a way investors and traders will prepare to receive something good from their long investment. If you can embrace this season to buy Bitcoin and hold, it will really help you to achieve passive income in your investment because it will be difficult for the price to decrease more than the current price. The price will definitely improve higher before the end of this month, because the price is still moving between $16,000 and $17,000 which is a sign that investors will soon experience bullish market.

It is difficult to confirm that bitcoin will not fall anymore, the possibility that bitcoin will continue to fall is there because, with the negative information spreading in the market, it is likely that we will soon receive a new drop in bitcoin. However, you are right. Don't wait and now is the best time to buy as we may not have reached the bottom yet, but we are very close to doing so, so we buy now will not lead to any loss what big.

Today is the last day of the year, and there are no surprises as you would expect, and I also suspect that we will unlikely see a price increase in the first days of the new year.

After all, every bear market's bottom price is always better than the last bear market. That's always a good reason to buy and hold.

The price may drop down to 14K just as others have been saying actually. They may relate the price crash again to the economy and stock market collapse. Although its sad to see BTC still didn't decouple from traditional finance, I'm still up to seeing the long-term RSI indicator to be a good buy even on $16500.
2375  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gervonta Davis vs Ryan Garcia on: December 31, 2022, 10:57:18 AM
Most likely this will affect his reputation as a boxer, and even the upcoming fights that are in line with him. If not cancelled, since the audience are undeniably waiting for the match to happen, I guess Tank Davis will also face negative criticisms after the fight. But I don’t think his preparation for the match and his performance in the ring will also be affected as he will always be an outstanding boxer regardless of his current issues.
The case has been resolved and Gervonta Davis already free, but his reputation might ruined. It's better for him to quit social medias since he might get a lot criticism including when he's in outside and meet people who knew this case. Even he's professional and know to not taking it as a personal, but I believe it's still affect his mental even though just a tiny portion. He should fight with Garcia, otherwise his name might fall.

I couldn't remove the idea that there is a coordinated attack on Davis. Things are just too coincidental. Family trouble will always affect personal life and maybe he would blame himself for what happened.

After bailing an article came out from his accuser claiming he did not harm her nor his daughter. But both parties might just have an agreement, probably on money I guess which is usually the case. If there is a chance for Hector Vs Tank, it's not yet announced.

2376  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling For Fun - What Does This Mean To You? on: December 30, 2022, 06:09:11 PM
Gambling for fun is simply just betting on something you like doing or watching. But whether you gamble for fun or not, it's only ourselves who knows it.
It only feels like you are fooling yourself by betting on sports you don't like but cheering for the team you put your money on. Its probably a gambler's idea of fun but for some people, the idea of fun is just partying and drinking and catching up with friends.

2377  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The reason Dogecoin could fail in the future on: December 30, 2022, 04:54:35 AM
I think Dogecoin is a very strong project and the main point is that a Alon musk support of this project so they show that it will be a successful project in future.
According to my experience is that one the market situation is good so the project definitely achieve their goals.

Even if Elon wouldn't support it, Doge will rise. Doge hash rate is even rising more and more because more people are getting into it than investments they can't afford. It's one of the most googled coins.

The success of Doge can be compared to the success of LTC. Although they may not really rise high like thousands in just a decade like BTC, they are going the long game.
2378  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How do we manage our crypto trading strategy on: December 30, 2022, 04:38:34 AM
The most popular strategy in the community is to buy cryptocurrency when the price is low in the market, and hold to watch when the price will increase higher before you can release what you are holding at the moment to achieve something special from the market. Personal research is another strategy many traders used to overcome losses, and embrace profits in the future because the moment you Carry out your personal research before investing on a particular coin, it will be difficult for you to experience failure than to achieve success at the end of the market.

This strategy never makes one lose which can not be obsolete like OP is saying. If he is trading constantly either in the spot or futures, that might not work well because this bear market is well affected by many outside factors like the government trying to fight inflation, war, and CBDC replacement for the cash.

Some say this recession is not just causing this bear market to extend up to 2024. Trading strategies will not work well if the market is very much manipulated.
2379  Economy / Economics / Re: Passive Income? New Start-Up Would Pay you to Share Personal Data on: December 30, 2022, 04:26:39 AM
We all are sharing our data anyway! Google and Facebook knows it all! They have built billion dollar enterprises based on our data. For example, If you have ever used Facebook advertisement, you will be amazed to see the depth of targetting you can do. That's all based on our data which we are giving away for free of cost. So if we can make some extra bucks out of our data, why not! Especially when we are not involved with any illegal activities, there's no risk as well.

That's true. It's why you should just monetize it as well. The negative side however is yet to come.

This revenue sharing from the app they make is not a new idea anymore there had been many crypto projects attempting like with thier browsers like Brave Browser (BAT). Besides collecting your browsing and buying habits, they also ask for KYC like it's not enough. Sooner these guys may ask for thier Security ID.
2380  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 Oscar Awards betting and discussions on: December 30, 2022, 04:15:35 AM
But the film was a box office disappointment, and despite a budget of close to $40 million it could only gross around $10 million. Now I want to see whether the jury has courage to select a film, that has been rejected by the audience.
I don't think that box office success is high on the Academy priority list when choosing winner for the best picture award. Its more about lobbying than anything else tbh, and every once in a while the best movie in selection gets the award.

If you conduct a public poll between The Fabelmans and Avatar: The Way of Water, then 99% of the people are going to chose the latter option. But then the opinions of Oscar jury is so different from that of the ordinary people. They won't even consider a film such as Avatar for any of their awards (despite collecting more than $1 billion around the world till now).

The first part (Avatar 1) back in 2009 won the Oscar for Best Visual Effects. Also, it won the Oscars for Best Art Direction (Rick Carter and Robert Stromberg) and Best Cinematography (Mauro Fiore).

This time also, it may win the same award (Oscar for Best Visual Effects), but I will be terribly disappointed if it is the only award this film wins at Oscars.

The best Visual effect will be for Avatar. Seem very easy for that movie to get such an award. Somehow I feel not very fair since all the effects are computer generated. For me, Avatar 2 has a terrible story that could go up to Avatar 10. They made a new watermen race in that world and a new messiah who could be the girl in Avatar 3.

Oscar Jury has different criteria and of course, those juries know how to scrutinize a film and will look at the film from different angles. And they may prefer the film that features it all for awards that are given more importance like Best Actor, Actress, and Director.
