2361  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Biggest Mysteries Of Bitcoin on: October 13, 2022, 02:52:18 AM
After reading the subject of the thread, I was thinking this is a sort of a compilation of, well, the "Biggest mysteries of Bitcoin." It wasn't, of course. The subject is kind of misleading.

Anyway, indeed Satoshi's identity or identities are a mystery but I guess what's more mysterious is the possibility that it's actually probably known. I think there are a handful of individuals who must have a more or less accurate guess of who Satoshi is/are.

And since we're already discussing about mysteries here, I wonder: who have read topic 3? Grin

Is this the first bitcointalk.org topic?
What happened with topic 1,2,3 and 4?

1, 2, and 4 exist in the staff forum. 3 was permanently deleted at some point (it must have contained Satoshi's real name and address).
2362  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Binance Hacked?! What we can do better to protect our funds? on: October 13, 2022, 02:08:19 AM
In cases we would be considering long term investment and trading would definitely become difficult, the time it would take for your coins to go to the exchange 💱 the price will get back up or down.

To be honest, this is indeed a big problem if you are a big-time day trader. If you're only buying Bitcoin with the purpose of HODLing it for the long term, then it is easy to decide what to do. But if you are a day trader, it's not going to be easy. In the first place, can you avoid centralized exchanges? You're probably looking for the right volume, pairs, fees, features, and so on. Big centralized exchanges like Binance is indeed a good option. But would you trust Binance with your money when it doesn't have a spotless track record?
2363  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bangladesh has blocked 331 online casinos on: October 13, 2022, 01:45:50 AM
It's probably a wrong logic to argue that since politicians are almost openly laundering money why don't they allow online casinos to operate as well where money laundering could also be done by the rest? Both are illegal and should end. But it's certainly wrong to allow one simply because the other is happening.

At the very least, the commission functions and jobs are done. Sites are blocked, apps closed, various links as well. It would probably be a much bigger problem if these sites and apps are illegal but are all running openly.
2364  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: About the future of bitcoin - What are you worried about? on: October 13, 2022, 01:18:30 AM
Bitcoin is developing as it moves forward. Just like everything else. Updates are released every now and then. But perhaps it is something to be worried about when a day would come when nobody would contribute to its development anymore. A number have left; Mike Hearn, Jonas Schnelli, Wladimir van der Laan, and others.

I'm a little worried about the time when Bitcoin would end, because it most probably will. Generational wealth could probably be stored in Bitcoin. But at some point, it might lose relevance.
2365  Other / Meta / Re: Section to avoid and section to postl on: October 12, 2022, 04:01:08 AM
As a fellow beginner, I also like to be confused at first, sometimes I also feel inferior, but this is a discussion,
so I thought, why should I feel inferior to express my opinion,

the most important thing is that you don't make posts that are considered spam, and at least they have to be of high quality.

Newbies are indeed inferior in terms of what they can do. There are forum limits against newbies in terms of posting and messaging, for example. But outside of that, I don't think newbies should feel inferior. After all, ranks do not necessarily signify Bitcoin or crypto knowledge, experience, determination, and so on. Although, of course, in terms of how the forum works, newbies should better observe, explore, and read the rules first.
2366  Other / Politics & Society / Re: During the morning missile attack on Ukraine, the Russians hit Samsung Offices on: October 12, 2022, 03:07:50 AM
LOL! It's as if Russian bombings have been selecting specific targets. They're not. So I don't think this Samsung office in Kyiv being hit by one of the Russian bombs is intentional. No, it definitely isn't. It's plain coincidence. Russian bombings have been indiscriminate. They're hitting schools, children's parks, train stations, hospitals, churches, resident buildings, and other civilian and neutral infrastructures and areas. Hell, their soldiers are even shooting old people and women.
2367  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How can I know Scam coins and token Through Whitepaper on: October 12, 2022, 02:49:08 AM
The whitepaper only tells you so much. But, at the very least, whitepapers suggest a lot.

The problem the project is supposed to address is indicated in the whitepaper. How the project intends to address it is also in the whitepaper. The roadmap is in the whitepaper as well. The tokenomics is also in there, so you will also get a rough idea of whether a project is sustainable or not. Further details such as the token supply, distribution, and so on are also in the whitepaper. And unlike Bitcoin's whitepaper, crypto whitepapers these days also include the development team, their credentials, and other information.

So more or less, you can gauge whether a project is likely to succeed or not based on the whitepaper. Well, that also depends on your own standard. But, as opposed to other opinions here, I guess whitepapers are a good material to start with in order to somehow judge the potential of a project.

However, of course, it's one thing to talk the talk and quite another to walk the talk. So a promising whitepaper doesn't really guarantee success. And because it's altcoin projects that we're mainly talking here, always proceed with caution. A good whitepaper, smooth project development and growth, huge rise in token's price, big partnerships, and so on do not mean the project isn't a scam. It isn't until it is.

Remember, Terra was a scam and Do Kwon is a scammer.
2368  Economy / Gambling / Re: How is the performance of gambling tokens compare to other altcoins and btc on: October 12, 2022, 02:20:40 AM
There were more than a handful of this kind of utility token before. Surely, there are benefits in using these tokens but only in their specific platforms or ecosystems. Outside, these tokens are nothing but speculative coins. Although there are still some that are in active use until now, many of these tokens are short-lived. So I don't think investing money in these tokens is a wise idea. Just gamble with Bitcoin and other established altcoins. You're safer this way.
2369  Economy / Economics / Re: New ETF Plans To Make Opposite Trades Of Jim Cramer's Recommendations on: October 12, 2022, 01:59:25 AM
This Jim Cramer thing has now escalated to a whole new different level. I'm not sure if things are still made purely out of and for fun or it has already shifted more seriously. As soon as huge money is put on the line following the opposite of Jim's recommendations, that's not anymore a joke. But the joke's probably on them. That for me is simply financial or investment irresponsibility. It's pure gambling. This is like the Buy the Schiff movement.
2370  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: REFLEX ACTION IN GAMBLING AND TIPS TO AVOID ITS PITFALLS. on: October 12, 2022, 01:29:26 AM
• Use money set aside for entertainment, not for rent, tuition or other bills.

If you could just simply stick with this basic principle, then you wont really be putting yourself into a huge mess or headache with gambling.
Spend on the amount which isnt really intended for priorities. If you could really just stick into that then there would be no problems in terms of financial.
You wont really be making yourself fell into those possible problems ahead.Stick into your means and dont go beyond borders.
Always have limits and be wary on actions that might be changed up later on.

Again, because there is no gambling reflex really. You can actually plan everything ahead. You can actually properly organize your finances, your time, your hobbies vis-à-vis your responsibilities, and so on. This so-called gambling reflex is simply lack of self-discipline, which I guess many of us gamblers unfortunately are challenged with. But there's really nothing unplanned and involuntary about pulling that slot lever one more time or clicking that roll button.
2371  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Calendar and Important Days on: October 12, 2022, 01:02:56 AM
I'm not so familiar with some of these Bitcoin holidays. What is Bitcoin Running Day, for example? And also, if it is strictly a Bitcoin holiday calendar, I guess I would omit the likes of Mt. Gox Day or Shitcoin Day.

Anyway, the good thing with Bitcoin.holiday, which others have suggested above, is that it provides a brief information about the particular holiday. But, again, there are still days there which I think are not really that relevant in Bitcoin's history that they need to be considered holidays.

2373  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: REFLEX ACTION IN GAMBLING AND TIPS TO AVOID ITS PITFALLS. on: October 10, 2022, 11:09:20 AM
I haven't read enough literature or research on this but I don't agree about all this reflex gambling thing. I mean, reflex is something that a person does unconsciously. It's basically unplanned and involuntary. Gambling, on the other hand, is something that we do very consciously, planned and voluntary. When we gamble and forget about the time while on it, that's not reflex. That's simply lack of discipline. When we chase our losses, that's not reflex. That's simply irresponsibility.
2374  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin a top player in Libertarian Government on: October 09, 2022, 03:51:29 AM
As for me, I'd rather forget about these political concepts. They're a fad. Like shitcoins, they come and go. They will have their days and then some other political philosophy would take over, last for some time, and, just like the rest, fade in the background.

Bitcoin has pros and cons and depending on where you are coming from, Bitcoin may be good or bad to you. Freedom is sweetest to those who are oppressed and shackled. To those who are in power and control, it's a risk, an obstacle. The government, in many case, is on the side of power. So whatever philosophy it's following, it functions the way it has to.
2375  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: why BTC can not zero at present time on: October 09, 2022, 01:37:26 AM
Bitcoin, just like everything else, can only be zero if nobody wants it. So the more curious question to ask is not "why can't Bitcoin be zero now?" It would be "is it possible that a certain point in time will come when nobody would want Bitcoin?" And perhaps it is even more interesting to know the possible grounds.

Now or the present time is not a question. So the answer to your question is simple. Just look at the price tag and it is enough to tell you that people at this very moment are willing to buy 1BTC at $19,405.50.
2376  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Too risky to leave BTC right now on: October 09, 2022, 12:49:06 AM
Although $10,000 is possible, I guess it is more likely for Bitcoin to reach $30,000 than fall to as low as $10,000. October is probably a better month. And probably the rest of the remaining months of the year would also be better months. So I don't see a $10,000 coming. If it happens, it wouldn't be within 2022. I'm not sure if there would still be a huge fall before the halving in 2024, but, again, $10,000 is probably too far down.
2377  Economy / Economics / Re: At last, Twitter wins the battle!! on: October 08, 2022, 02:57:40 PM
Let's hope there will be good changes once he acquires it.
2 of my accounts are gone and one of them was changed to a lady owner. I don't know what happened to it so I just trashed it to avoid more problems.
Freedom of speech is good but security must be higher. No to freedom to hack or the freedom to close accounts just because the owner wants him down or the other person's opinion is not in agreement with his.
The better part that I see is if he reconstructs it with cryptocurrencies injected with it.

What I badly want to change about Twitter is the proliferation of scammer bots. They are simply unchecked. Every time you take a look at tweets of popular crypto personalities, you will see that they are flooded with comments from bogus accounts posting shady links and promoting scam projects. If I'm not mistaken, some of these scammers have already managed to get that blue badge.

Twitter has already integrated crypto features at the hands of Jack. And I think that whether Twitter will transfer ownership or not, it will still be further developed with Bitcoin or crypto in consideration.
2378  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling Distortion Pattern on: October 08, 2022, 02:15:40 PM
Why do you call these patterns "gambling distortion pattern?"

Also, I don't think gambling results could be classified under these 4 patterns. As a matter of fact, results may not even provide you a pattern. Well, if there is, it's that you are probably losing more than winning. And that's expected because there's a house edge so the casino has a higher probability of winning than the player.

The first few gambling results don't make a pattern. The longer you are in the game, the harder it is to find a pattern. Again, except for the fact that you are probably losing more than winning.
2379  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I helped my dad bought some Bitcoin last night on: October 08, 2022, 01:46:19 PM
That sounds good. Nobody is probably too old to get some Bitcoin. Anybody who has some extra savings lying around could consider putting some into Bitcoin.

It always feels good having a family member finally convinced about Bitcoin. And it is even better if we also bring them to realize what Bitcoin basically stands for. Decentralization, for example, is such an amazing concept. The finitude of Bitcoin's supply and how it is absolutely predictable is something the old dogs would probably be surprised and be curious about.
2380  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: They want your money by all means possible on: October 08, 2022, 01:27:46 AM
If I may add, if you're a newbie in the space, it probably isn't your business to venture into the risky altcoin market and other crypto investment opportunities. I think the first thing a newbie does is to learn about Bitcoin. It eventually leads to you finally buying your first amount.

Leave the rest of the altcoin market to those who have already been sufficiently exposed to it. But with what's happening in there, I guess it's a lot better to just stick with Bitcoin.
