1541  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tipping Dealers on: April 11, 2023, 11:05:55 AM
This isn't just a man; this is MrBeast, Jimmy Donaldson, the man with the most YouTube subscribers. And the controversy surrounding this act of his is not really that he's giving a car as a tip but that he is giving a car that is covered with a logo of his own chocolate brand.

Anyway, aside from the fact that I really am not a casino player, I think I haven't tipped a dealer that much. But whenever I win a good amount playing poker or blackjack with my circle of friends, I always give a tip. But the dealer is of course just one among us. And I cannot recall giving a tip other than money or chip.
1542  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Coinbase vs SEC on: April 11, 2023, 10:28:24 AM
It's funny how SEC is threatening Coinbase with a lawsuit with the presumption that PoS coins like Ethereum are securities when another US government agency, CFTC, is suing Binance and CZ with a claim that Ethereum, like Bitcoin, is a commodity. There seems to be a lack of understanding and coordination here. Or is there some kind of a turf war between these two agencies?

Anyway, if the case will be filed, it will take years for the legal process to have a final decision. My hunch is that the longer the case drags on, the more advantageous for Coinbase. If it is a precedent, look at how Ripple is doing quite well in its case against the SEC.
1543  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Do you still advised more buy and store? on: April 11, 2023, 09:13:36 AM
Yeah, I still advise people to buy if they have an amount to spare. Keep stacking Sats. Keep saving money in Bitcoin.

The price right now is around $30,000. That's still a good bargain price I think. That's far from the $20,000 price exactly a month ago, but you need to look further. You need to look beyond the small rise that the price just had. One day, you will look back to this day and realize that $30,000 is indeed a buying opportunity.
1544  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Not own Bitcoin but like to discuss about Bitcoin on: April 11, 2023, 08:41:28 AM
I personally know of some people who talk about Bitcoin but don't have Bitcoin. A few friends also want to talk about how Bitcoin works but don't have Bitcoin. But they're probably just in the phase of learning, of getting to know Bitcoin. They're just doing it slow. They're busy with what they do so they are not in hurry to do their first purchase. I don't think it is unusual for some people who don't have Bitcoin to discuss about Bitcoin.

It is also possible that you used to have Bitcoin and sold them already but you're still interested about Bitcoin and even have plans to buy back one of these days.
1545  Economy / Economics / Re: Effects: Over-reliance on the US dollar on: April 11, 2023, 08:08:30 AM
Over-reliance to a foreign currency is, of course, not good. But this applies not just to the USD but also to other currencies like the Chinese renminbi, the euro, pound, Japanese yen, Indian rupee, and so on. So a shift to the Chinese yuan as a way to address over-reliance on the US dollar is not any different. For one, it still means that whatever happens to a foreign currency and its economy and even its socio-political environment will still have an impact on a country's own economic situation.
1546  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin and dollar on: April 11, 2023, 07:38:21 AM
Yes, I think the fluctuations in the value of dollar will affect the price of Bitcoin in one way or another. If the dollar weakens, it means a certain amount of dollars couldn't anymore buy the same amount of Bitcoin that it used to when it was still stronger. Bitcoin could be considered as a commodity. So just like eggs, vegetables, cereals, bread, and other commodities, the price of Satoshis also rise whenever the value of dollar falls. But of course Bitcoin has also its supply and demand side.
1547  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Martingale strategy in casinos on: April 11, 2023, 07:14:13 AM
Martingale strategy may be tempting to use-- and I actually use it every now and then-- but it is never recommended. That is regardless of whether you are playing in a casino or betting on a sports match or whatever gambling.

How long are your losing streaks could get in gambling? It is not only 2 or 3 or 4 losses; it could be 8 or 9 or 10 losses or even higher. If that happens, can you still continue to double your bet until you win?
1548  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why will I always have faith in the potential of Bitcoin? on: April 10, 2023, 02:23:10 PM
And what do you exactly mean by complete financial independence? If you mean complete independence from fiat which you consider a shady currency, do you think it is achievable? Can you really separate yourself from fiat? But if you mean that you can be completely independent from financial troubles, then it is indeed Lambo that you wish to have. So you're someone who is still looking for a Lambo. Of course, Lambo stands for more money, wealth, a bigger worth, the ability to buy expensive stuff.
1549  Economy / Economics / Re: Quit borrowing on: April 10, 2023, 01:40:23 PM
Borrowing is not entirely bad. It could actually be good, but it has to be a last resort kind of thing. It is there as a final option, something which you will only do because you have nowhere else to go, no one else to turn to. But when borrowing is done merely for the sake of feeding our consumerist souls, then it is certainly bad and something to be avoided.

In my country, many are trapped in loans, unable to get out of it for many years. The working class mostly. Once they take a loan, it means a significant portion of their incoming salaries will not be full anymore, which also means they will need to borrow in order to survive until the next payday. The cycle goes on, that's why borrowing should be avoided if possible.
1550  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [UFC] Israel Adesanya vs Alex Pereira 2 on: April 10, 2023, 12:56:54 PM
I am in favor of a third fight of the two in the UFC. That Adesanya lost a couple of times to Pereira in kickboxing is not part of the story anymore. That's just history that isn't even MMA. The UFC record is 1-1 to both Pereira and Adesanya. So it is fair to have a third match if only to break the tie.

That was a great match. The first one was also a great match. There is no reason to deprive MMA fans of another great match in a second UFC rematch. Both fighters deserve it also.

If only Pereira survived those counterblows, this could have easily been a repeat of their first match. But Pereira was also the one who got saved by the bell in their first fight. A third fight is needed.
I didn't expect Adesanya to be able to win TKO from Pereira, he seemed to have prepared everything from the start, this was Adesanya's first win against Pereira, I'm sure there will be another match between the two that will take place in the next few years

Adesanya didn't just win a TKO against Pereira; he won a KO against the man who used to beat him 3 times. But it's not really unexpected. We all know how athletic, quick, and powerful Adesanya is. It could happen. You have to remember he also nearly knocked out Pereira in their first MMA match. Now, it has finally happened.

For now, the prospect of a rematch will have to be shelved. It could happen in the future though, but Dana has mentioned that Poatan might be moving to 205 after the match. So the rivalry will have to end, at least for now.
1551  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How much effort should one put into Bitcoin investments on: April 10, 2023, 11:42:15 AM
I know some people are dropping exaggerated Bitcoin investment advice. I don't agree with them. You don't have to go extreme in your Bitcoin investments. You don't need to follow advice like Saylor's "mortgage your house and buy Bitcoin" however correct his math seems to be.

Although it's good to be a risk-taker, if you are losing sleep because of the amount of your Bitcoin investment, then by all means trim it down. If you have the money and really want to travel or buy a drink or need to buy a new phone or buy a loved one a gift, go ahead and do it.

Don't make too much sacrifices just for your Bitcoin investment. Life is here and now. It's absolutely wrong to swap precious moments, health, fun, family, and so on for Bitcoin.

For what shall it profit a man if he shall gain a whole bunch of Bitcoin and lose his own life?
1552  Economy / Economics / Re: Automating your savings will help you save more on: April 10, 2023, 10:41:14 AM
I know that one of my banks offer automatic savings, but I haven't tried it, and I'm not aware of the rules. I like the idea, though. But I think it would be best done with your salary or payroll account. You can choose to have the bank deduct a certain percentage of your regular salary or a certain amount every pay day. To make it even better, money kept under automatic savings could not be withdrawn through ATMs. It has to be done over the counter. This additional hassle will probably help you avoid touching that money.

On a side note, though, it is better to save in Bitcoin.
1553  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Kucoin Community Chain KCC on: April 10, 2023, 09:36:58 AM
I still haven't moved anything off exchange, partially paralysed by too many stories of losing money by transferring incorrectly and not wanting to pay the sizeable Bitcoin network fee when I haven't got a large holding.

There are features some exchanges offer that are misleading. You may notice that certain exchanges offer you a menu of networks you can use in moving funds. These networks' respective fees are indicated. Exchanges make them appear as if you can easily switch between them. In avoiding high fees, the tendency is that some users choose the network with the cheapest fee, therefore ending with the wrong network. Funds are lost in the process. Indeed, in avoiding high fees, you may lost everything.

Quote
Although partially reassured by moving USDT from KuCoin to Kraken successfully and having been told the fee to transfer out of the wallet should be less than the fee to transfer from exchange.

These centralized exchanges are imposing high fees. This is just one of their numerous disadvantages. But if you want to move Bitcoin from one exchange to another, why not trade it first into an altcoin with a much cheaper transaction fee and do another trade as soon as it arrives in its destination?

Anyway, I haven't tried it but Trust Wallet has made announcements almost a year ago that it already integrated Kucoin Community Chain (KCC) to their wallet. Did you not proceed with this option?
1554  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Which is your ideal cryptocurrency? Why? on: April 10, 2023, 07:45:05 AM
If we speak of an ideal cryptocurrency, I guess there is none, or perhaps current ones are yet to develop into our ideal cryptocurrency. The best among the existing ones, of course, is Bitcoin. But even Bitcoin is far from ideal. With Bitcoin, affordable and instant transactions, for example, can only happen off-chain. In which case, Dogecoin is more convenient to use than Bitcoin especially involving small amounts. Or Monero and ZCash are better than Bitcoin in terms of privacy. So I guess an ideal cryptocurrency is the combination of all the best features of all cryptocurrencies.
1555  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Times When Casinos Will Ask Certificate That You Are A Responsible Gambler on: April 10, 2023, 06:57:02 AM
I doubt it. Although we are often reminded to gamble responsibly, the truth is that gambling and responsibility do not really go together.

If the government really wants to protect its people from the possible repercussions of gambling, they might as well just ban gambling outright. I am a gambler myself but if there is a law that prohibits gambling entirely, I guess I will readily support it. Whatever amount of fun and money that gambling has given to some of its players, they cannot equal the losses and misery of the rest of the gamblers. However significant the amount of taxes paid by gambling businesses, they cannot equal the social ills gambling has caused. The employment that gambling businesses generate cannot compensate for the big number of gamblers who have either left or got kicked out of their jobs.
1556  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Hong Kong's Plans to Legalize Retail Crypto Trading on: April 10, 2023, 06:08:53 AM
Hong Kong has been on the news lately, and for good reason. It is a bit surprising and certainly a welcome development that despite the city being under China, a country generally averse to cryptocurrency, Hong Kong is moving toward the opposite direction. Rather than follow China's stance on crypto, it aims to be a cryptocurrency hub.

As far as the US is concerned, it seems it is also going the opposite direction. It has become too intolerant and too single-minded that it seems to have betrayed the very spirit of America. Strict policies are like betrayals to the very foundation of the land of the free.
1557  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Ultimate (simple) guide on when to buy Bitcoin. on: April 05, 2023, 11:21:37 AM
So, have you been getting bigger gains because of this strategy? You've been here for around 6 years already. Which is better so far in terms of profit, to DCA or to buy Bitcoin in bulk following the Fed's decision?

Personally, I don't care so much about what the central bank of a faraway country is doing. Especially when it comes to Bitcoin, I'd rather just acquire when I have the money to spare and hodl. After all, I don't think that Bitcoin's price is really in correlation with whatever decision the Fed makes about its decaying currency, notwithstanding those moments when there is seemingly one.
1558  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Some scams that can be avoided that people failed to check!!! on: April 05, 2023, 04:24:25 AM
All those that you mentioned are scams based on fake versions: fake links and emails and sites, fake giveaways, fake exchanges, fake apps. Indeed, they are relatively easy to avoid. One may be easier to avoid than the others, though, as in a fake Binance site is easier to determine than a fake Binance email which may even carry the words official or staff or team or whatever.

But the scams that are harder to avoid are those that aren't fake. FTX wasn't fake. BlockFi wasn't fake. The same is true with Celsius and Three Arrows Capital and others. They were all duly registered and licensed. They were all legal business entities. They all had highly paid teams and sleek headquarters and whatnot. But they're all scams!
1559  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BITCOIN SUPPLY LIMIT on: April 05, 2023, 03:50:17 AM
Because everything has a schedule. But the schedule is not time-based but formula-based. So here is the formula as to why there is only 21 million in total supply and why the generation of new coins will last until around 2140:

https://twitter.com/DocumentingBTC/status/1564742835223633921/photo/1

In addition to this, each block is mined within 10 minutes more or less, so while the formula above is based on blocks, subsequent halvings and when the final Satoshi is mined are still predictable. Hence, the estimates that the next halving would occur somewhere in April or May next year and the last Sat to be mined in around 2140.
1560  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Paxful is shutting down on: April 05, 2023, 02:41:18 AM
It seems the domino of bankruptcy and insolvency is now being replaced with a domino of voluntarily giving up. But I think this isn't part of it. It seems this isn't even about regulatory policies smothering them. Perhaps it is convenient to drop this regulatory challenges excuse, but this isn't the primary reason. This is also not about centralized platforms offering P2P, competing against them.

This is most probably the result of Youssef's co-founder Artur Schaback's lawsuit against both Paxful and Youssef. Schaback was kicked out by Youssef more than a year ago. Schaback then filed a lawsuit in Delaware 3 months ago. As a direct result of Schaback's legal actions, the "key staff departures" that Youssef mentioned happened. To the point that "there were no engineers, compliance team members, or security personnel left working at the company." This actually prompted Youssef to shut down the platform, specifically its security implications.[1]
