2381  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ethereum: Good alt or stay away? on: April 05, 2016, 12:45:17 AM
It is a good altcoin because I've made a lot of money from ETH.

The fact you got in early and made money has nothing to do with future price action. I think the money has already been made on Ether during the pump and the future is uncertain. Price has to get past .0372 on Poloniex before I would consider going long again.
2382  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Separate Computer for Bitcoin/Financial Information vs Personal? on: April 05, 2016, 12:36:22 AM
Malwarebytes is very good for a free program. Please be aware there is bitcoin stealing malware that will steal your password when you enter it then empty your wallet. Altcoins too. And as time passes the attacks will become more sophisticated. Get yourself a Ledger or Trezor hardware wallet and keep your private keys offline. You do not need a second computer if the concern is just bitcoin. Trezor is immune to malware but Ledger needs to be installed on a clean computer. Trezor is cheap insurance. Ledger and Trezor are the top two hardware wallet manufacturers hard to go wrong with either. Personal preference is for Trezor though I have used Ledger and find it fine. Now if you are using online banking accounts I would keep those off the computer used for porn or at least do several scans a week using Malwarebytes.
2383  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Does Electrum communicate the master public key to the server? on: April 04, 2016, 07:17:24 PM
No. An Electrum server has no way of knowing your actual identity or MPK, but does know your IP address, wallet addresses, and balance. That's all.
2384  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Will the Armory Wallet be made compatible with the Trezor hardware wallet? on: April 03, 2016, 06:48:41 PM
No Trezor for me until I have Armory integration with multiple wallets.
Oh, and manually choosing inputs too.

Ente

I completely agree... I see no need to buy a Trezor without Armory integration.

But devs probably have a lot in their hands. I'm patient, tho Smiley It will be good for both Trezor and Armory when they're both compatible.

You might be waiting a long time. When you can run myTrezor with your own Bitcore node at home will that not take care of lack of privacy concerns?
2385  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Clearing the FUD around segwit on: April 03, 2016, 12:21:23 AM
I wrote a post on my website to try to clear up the misunderstandings that people have and spread about Segregated Witness.

http://www.achow101.com/2016/04/Segwit-FUD-Clearup

If you think I missed something or made a mistake, please let me know and I will change it. Feel free to discuss what I have written however I ask that you keep the discussion more technically oriented and less politically.

If you have any additional questions about segwit, I will try to answer them. If I think it is something that many people will ask or misunderstand, I will add it to the post.

Local rule: no posts about blockstream or claims that blockstream controls core development.

*Disclaimer: I am not one of the developers of Segwit although I have done extensive research and am in the process of writing segwit code for Armory.

Good article on your blog, thanks for taking the time. I enjoyed the read.
2386  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Will the Armory Wallet be made compatible with the Trezor hardware wallet? on: April 02, 2016, 01:07:47 PM
slush recently mentioned in this thread on reddit that soon a Bitpay Bitcore full node will support Trezor. If you do not want to run your own Bitcore full node (will need a laptop running linux) there will be an option in myTrezor.com to connect to public Bitcore servers like localbitcoinschain.com, insight.bitpay.com or blockexplorer.com instead of the SatoshiLabs servers. Even setting up your own Bitcore node on a spare linux laptop would be easier than running an Electrum server.
2387  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Ethereum pump and dump? on: March 31, 2016, 04:52:42 PM
If coinbase announces support; expect ETH to reach at least 0.07BTC. If it doesn't happen in the next 2 months it will probably never happen.

Coinbase is built around bitcoin. The developer of Litecoin works there and the company would not add Litecoin so I doubt they would ever add Ether or any other altcoin. Shoot, most folks have no clue what Ethereum is in the first place.

Here's a big list, curated by a redditor, it's inclusive and impartial.

Great list, thanks!
2389  Economy / Services / Re: VPN Services on: March 30, 2016, 11:49:01 PM
I am not aware of any VPN that allows you to connect through 80 countries. proXPN costs $75 a year while Private Internet Access costs $40. Search for some unbiased reviews (meaning no hidden referral links). When I did PIA always came out first or second. YMMV.
2390  Economy / Speculation / Re: WOT will happen after the halving ? on: March 30, 2016, 05:39:25 PM
No one knows how price will react at this halving. History does not have to repeat, Bitcoin is unpredictable and volatile. Add the blocksize conflict into the mix and it could be a wild ride. Large holders could decide to diversify into other coins like Litecoin, Monero and Ether or just move into cash and crash the price well before the halving to play it safe.
2391  Economy / Speculation / Re: PnF TA on: March 30, 2016, 01:22:00 PM
Here is a Bitstamp weekly chart with all time Fibonacci levels and one of masterluc's favorite indicators the 200 week SMA

61.8% has indeed become resistance but price is well above the 200 week SMA indicating a bull market is still in progress. I would not call a bear market unless price breaks the 200 week SMA now at $290. My take anyways.
2392  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Wordpress plugin to reward users who share the posts? on: March 29, 2016, 06:29:15 PM
I am also interested in this. Perhaps Mashshare.net could integrate bitcoin tips for sharing posts into their existing plugin.
2393  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [ESHOP launched] Trezor: Bitcoin hardware wallet on: March 29, 2016, 04:59:34 PM

they seem gone (getting site errors).

What was the price tag?

TREZOR Metallic & Cryptosteel
$999
Unique combination of the First Edition TREZOR Metallic and First Edition Cryptosteel.

Oh, allright. Thanks for the info.

I was going to go off on a rant (having payed roughly $550 (?) for my metal trezor when they were on preorder back in 2013 for 3 BTC).

Now I know roughly what it's worth. Screw collecting for me, though. I'm using the thing, scratching it and everything ;-)

Same for my alpaca socks, haha.

You should protect your valuable metallic Trezor with a $16 leather Remote Tote. The medium size fits fine and you can still connect the USB cable while Trezor is in the Tote just shift the Trezor to the side. It only takes a second to remove from the tote by disconnecting the carabiner if you like to use that way. NFI just a good product I found while searching. I own several and they are made very well.

If there is a better way to carry a Trezor on a keychain I am not aware of please share your find.

2395  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: OVERVIEW: BITCOIN HARDWARE WALLETS █████████████████ Secure your Coins on: March 28, 2016, 05:50:29 PM
KeepKey refuses to allow passphrase protected wallets in Chrome like Trezor always has. If your KeepKey seed is stolen so are your bitcoins. Now realize the same applies to Trezor, which is why smart Trezor users always use a passphrase on top of the PIN. With a passphrase protected wallet if your Trezor seed is stolen the thief gains nothing without the passphrase.

KeepKey says if you want a passphrase protected wallet you have to jump through hoops installing python dependencies for Electrum-2.6.3. I have done it see directions here and it works but Electrum is a pain to use with KeepKey. For some reason KeepKey makes it intentionally difficult to password protect wallets while Trezor makes it simple and even recommends you use a passphrase. That is why I no longer use my KeepKey. I either use Trezor or my BitLox.
2396  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Moving forward with Armory on: March 28, 2016, 03:23:53 AM
Realistically will Armory ever support Trezor within a reasonable time frame (6 months)?
2397  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How would you secure a Text file with your private keys on it? on: March 28, 2016, 03:17:28 AM
How would you secure a Text file with your private keys on it?  what encryption do you recommend?

Create a Veracrypt container encrypted with a strong password and store the text file in the container. The container does not have to be large, unless you have MB or GB of information you want to protect. Read the online documentation to learn how to use. The container can be stored anywhere you like on your laptop and is portable.
2398  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: New Bitcoin Project on: March 27, 2016, 08:41:12 PM
Good luck finding a developer. Considering the scope of the project a competent developer could demand a contract giving her/him at least two thirds ownership. After all you already said you cannot do it yourself. But better 1/3 of something than 3/3 of nothing, eh.
2399  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Ether price? on: March 27, 2016, 04:53:12 PM
If Ether retests .02 I might take a small position for a short term trade. I would not load up until the all time high is taken out.

Digitalbitbox uses phone for 2FA but no support for phone wallets as far as I can tell from the site.
