Smart move.

How so?

Looking at the interest, pretty sure they would have got a lot more with an auction ... unless giving up profits for the taking is a "smart move" for some reason I'm not getting.

Maybe, maybe not. You would have to ask Ms. Vranova. Auctions are more complicated, take time and there is a time value to money. There is no auction site that takes payment by bitcoin so Trezor would have to hold an in house auction. They did not choose to do so.

I'll ask directly.

You said it was a "smart move" not to hold an auction ... why do YOU say that?

I say they lost money by not doing so.

Smart move because:

1) Immediate income in bitcoin from sale at a price they determined the market would bear. I was surprised they set the price that high. I expected $800 but still bought one. Did you?
2) Avoided hassle of running an auction.

Not really interested in arguing the point, why don't you ask Ms. Vranova directly? I have work to get to.

You're right, we could probably have squeezed more profit out of this but I consider this a fair deal for everyone + our resources (time, effort) are valuable too.
At this moment, there is only one Metallic left.

Oh, allright. Thanks for the info.

I was going to go off on a rant (having payed roughly $550 (?) for my metal trezor when they were on preorder back in 2013 for 3 BTC).

Now I know roughly what it's worth. Screw collecting for me, though. I'm using the thing, scratching it and everything ;-)

Same for my alpaca socks, haha.

Hi, Im launching new application for Trezor. Here is description:

Trezor SSH Agent is a new Windows application for Trezor - the hardware bitcoin wallet!
It allows users to SSH authenticate to UNIX and Linux servers with TOP security and convenience using ECDSA technology.
All this is done in non-intrusive way, users keep on using their favorite clients like Putty, WinSCP or git and natively integrates them in Pageant-like fashion with Trezor SSH Agent.
Trezor SSH Agent is absolutely safe for you, no harm can be done to your bitcoins or the wallet.

You can download binary and sources on GitHub: https://github.com/martin-lizner/trezor-ssh-agent
Please be aware that this is initial stable release and bugs may exist. Feel free to report any troubles or requests to Issues page on GitHub.

Please be gentle, its my first time :-) On GitHub.

Is it still just 512 kByte that has to be divided between bootloader, metadata and firmware?
Yes

hm, that's a little lame for a 99$ device.

But now I understand why they don't openly mention this.

You might find Stellaw blog interesting. He examines and explains firmware and hardware of Trezor.

Yes, he's the guy whose video I posted earlier, unfortunately he doesn't go into the details very much.

I found a few more infos about the CPU in specification pdfs like this:

http://www.st.com/web/en/resource/technical/document/datasheet/CD00237391.pdf

So this device features a 512 byte OTP (One Time Programmable) memory, and that's where the seed / key is being stored.

No, the secret seed is stored in rewritable flash. Only the bootloader sector is locked.  See this article for more detail on flash memory layout.

You should protect your valuable metallic Trezor with a $16 leather Remote Tote. The medium size fits fine and you can still connect the USB cable while Trezor is in the Tote just shift the Trezor to the side. It only takes a second to remove from the tote by disconnecting the carabiner if you like to use that way. NFI just a good product I found while searching. I own several and they are made very well.

If there is a better way to carry a Trezor on a keychain I am not aware of please share your find.

Metal Trezors are probably worth $1000 or more on the secondary market, since the last 20 just sold from Trezor directly for $999. If you carry one with you do you want to take a chance on scratching the aluminum? Some protection like the Remote Tote seems reasonable.

"scratched by use of early bitcoin adopter, this device actually signed transactions directly onto the blockchain back in the early days" ;-)

That's correct, I recently purchased one of those 20 Smiley Although, I'm keeping mine in it's packaging to preserve the value.

You sound like one of those toy collectors who will not open the box as I am told some collectors demand new in box:) Knife collectors on the other hand, preserve the box and packaging in case a trade is made but enjoy their knives. My feeling is why not enjoy the Trezor? It is truly an objet d'art.
