242  Economy / Economics / Re: List of bitcoin hostile banks. [edit] mod please consider stickying this thread on: July 21, 2013, 11:31:57 PM
The answer to which banks are hostile to Bitcoin?  Same as the answer to how many people are dead in that cemetery:  All of them.

Nope.
Bitcoin.de is currently negotiating with Fidor Bank AG for some sort of partnership far beyond than just operating heir account.

Fidor will handle the customers accounts and they will be protected by the 100k deposit insurance of german gov. At the moment bitcoin.de has problems with people refusing to pay settled trades, but this partnership allows no chargebacks then.

243  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: 0.25 BTC Bounty - Show me a Mt Gox USD Withdrawal :) on: July 17, 2013, 11:28:27 PM
Gox can not be killed by a bank run.
That's just plain stupid.

A lot of their money is seized by the Feds and if people run on MtGox they are done. If people want move their funds to other exchanges they won't be able to convert all fiat to BTC since the spread would explode and Mt.Gox already doesn't process USD withdrawls. It doesn't matter that they own the freezed accounts, if customers demand a payout and they can't serve all that's insolvency.

They have enough other problems (Coinlab, Feds, ...) to be at risk, but the 10% premium and this threat could easily trigger one in addition.
Professionelle Trader in Crypto währen mir neu ...

WIN-WIN

245  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: 0.25 BTC Bounty - Show me a Mt Gox USD Withdrawal :) on: July 17, 2013, 09:30:32 PM
And that risk has been quantified in the 10% premium for USD (buying BTC on Gox & selling on Bitstamp).

Without a possible way to arbitrage there is no way to reduce that premium without a huge longterm investment so I wouldn't say risk has so much to do with it since even if this way were riskfree those 10% couldn't vanish easily since a lotof people want out.

Nevertheless this is very alarming and if Mt.Gox really gets insolvent it will have a huge impact on the demand of bitcoins.

Why in my wallet (mac version) stakes are always equals to 0 ? must i do something to mine PoS ?

Thanks

That's probably also explainde somewhere on bitcointalk too, but this is the link I have at hand:

I'm interested in some of the smaller currencies, it will be interesting to see if any "businesses" create their own currency, the Amazon coin announcement made me think for a second, until it became obvious it was just a token system. A large operation like Amazon could further legitimize the currency model and would have a large enough selection of saleable goods to make it work for the general public.
I really doubt that we will see a coperate crypto at all.

They could easily launch a coupon system, but a crypto currency would need to be defented in an expensive lawsuit. Bitcoin can't be sued just outlawed, but that company would be an easy target. There is no benefits for a company in comparison so why take the huge risks and a guranteed lawsuit. In my jurisdiction they can devalue coupons after 3years and that is a nice additional reward since some people are idiots and forget about them.
250  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][YAC] YACoin ongoing development on: July 11, 2013, 06:46:00 PM

what happened with the YAC price?! so much panic sell for which reason ?!

if YAC is now harder to be produced after N changed why it dropped the price like this ? it should have been opposite..

will you be quiet or do something with to promote your coin ?

one nice pump would fix this..

I belive some of the earliest adopters want to cash out.

Based on the size of single sell orders I assume there are just a few wealthy people actually selling. YAC has only little actually buying demand so they can drive prices down as far as they accept the price for. Once these people have sold to people who want to keep for longer we might see a price bubble soon. Not good for YAC, but that might be a chance for a quick buck.
251  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [PPC] Bounty Project Discussion on: July 10, 2013, 08:07:04 AM
of course, but someone needs to hold the funds before the bounty can be paid out right, when the developer delivers he gets the funds

OP=SunnyKIng=Developer of PPC

As I said, if you can't trust the developer of a crypto you can't trust that crypto. He is pledging, not reciving.

EDIT: I doubt that anyone wouldn't want her own bounty when the pledge is big, so this will probably just for spare change or PoS rewards as a good deed.
252  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What coin is the most powerfull in the next 2 year on: July 09, 2013, 03:08:14 PM
Copper Lark - there is a big chance of becoming one of the major coins.
Could you provide some details why you belive that ...

I've looked around, but there wasn't much english info aviable. It uses a new hash algo, but that's all I found out and just a different algorithm wouldn't make it worth mentioning at all.
253  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [PPC] Bounty Project Discussion on: July 09, 2013, 03:00:00 PM
It would be a good idea for the OP to generate dedecated adresses to the bounties so people can easier donate directly and he handles the coins.

It's also kinda hard to figure out how much bounty is for an retailer atm and just because someone says he's going to plege means nothing if you don't know him.

would be very useful, if there are donation addresses we can see how much is donated, but does require trust, escrow?
If you don't trust the developer you can't trust his crypto either so I belive escrow is not required at all.
254  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What coin is the most powerfull in the next 2 year on: July 08, 2013, 04:52:25 PM
I don't know what you consider powerful, but I hardly doubt that it won't be bitcoin.

Maybe there will be another also-established crypto in that timeframe, but it's not so likely at all. Nevertheless I belive bitcoin has far too many flaws to be THE mayor crypto for the next 10years or so. I don't see that potential in todays altcoins either (exept maybe YAC) so I think there will be at least one more big crypto to come.
255  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][YAC] YACoin ongoing development on: July 07, 2013, 10:20:37 AM
- I would hope Windmaster would call his source official.

Probably an interesting point to open for discussion.  Does anyone object to calling my version of the client official?  Certainly it's not the original client, and I'm also not the original developer.  Thoughts everyone?
For me you are the official developer, but just calling your source official without some legitimation is a bad idea.

Personally I belive a vote mechanism via signed messages of wallets would be a good thing for the future anyways, but that might be overkill for this issue. Start a poll on yacointalk or here and that might give enough legitimation. We will need to change the code sometime in the future anyways (PoS double spends), so it's urgent that someone active gets accepted as official dev.
256  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: YACoin Info And Communication Thread For Newbies YAC the CPU/GPU Mined coin on: June 14, 2013, 03:48:50 PM
Would it be worth using the computing power on your smart phone to mine assuming no specialized hardware at that point?
No, that's just a waste of time.
257  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: YACoin Info And Communication Thread For Newbies YAC the CPU/GPU Mined coin on: June 13, 2013, 07:41:00 AM
So if I understand correctly... GPUs are generally built with less RAM per core compared to CPUs since not a lot of memory storage is required when processing graphics.  Thus, CPUs are built with 4-16 gigs of RAM while GPUs don't go beyond a couple megs PER CORE.

GPUs have GDDR on the card that is a special, ultrafast DDR RAM. It's far bigger than caches for CPUs (12Mb vs 1Gb) and their only problem is the memory per core since they have a lot of cores. I belive it is unlikely that there will be enough GDDR on standard graphic cards since this gives no advantage for their usual workload and requires a lot of work.

On the other hand it is just a matter of time when RAM gets so big that the size difference between onCPU memory and RAM make it interresting to add faster GDDRx on mainboards. L3 on CPU chip(MB)<GDDR next to CPU(few GB)<RAM(several GB)<SSD(lots of GB)<HDD(and so on)<NAS<... while speed is the opposite.

How simple would it be to design/rig a GPU with CPU-sized RAM?
I don't know, but I suppose special YAC hardware will never or only on rare occasions pay off their initial developing costs. Even if you get the RAM on a custom board the GPU still has limitations on transfer speed and such. This could easyly get very messy.

If some mainboard producer adds GDDRx on a blade mainboard all your effords would be useless. The performance gain compared to CPUs with GDDR would be reduced to a minimum. Other factors, f.e energy costs would dominate this so hard that money should be spent on these to improve.
258  Other / Meta / Re: honest question about trust system on: June 12, 2013, 08:54:23 PM
Remember, trust no one
+1

Every trust system is based on actions in the past. That doesn't mean people couldn't change their mind and start scamming. See them as hints, not as a foolprove replacement for your brain.
259  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: YACoin Info And Communication Thread For Newbies YAC the CPU/GPU Mined coin on: June 12, 2013, 07:48:30 PM
Well put, i wonder how spintronics will work with this type of hashing.
In my opinion it should be amazing and will keep CPU mining very competative in the future.
I'm sorry to disapoint you, but the effect on that is zero.

If MRAM really replaces DRAM or this 'd leed to a total new technology it will be used on both, CPU and GPU. The nice properties of YACs hash algorithm make it very stable against technological advance. Most other hash algorithms will be performed by ASICs or FPGA in the future when they become even too simple tasks for GPU. (far future)

The only way I see YAC to loose the homemining ability requires an extreme technological breakthrue and extreme high prices. Since the calculations for its mining are quiet similiar to standard computing even then it's unlikely to become impossible on standard home hardware like bitcoin will in a few month.
260  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: YACoin Info And Communication Thread For Newbies YAC the CPU/GPU Mined coin on: June 12, 2013, 06:17:03 PM
Agreed and i have seen the argument about the cpu mem speed being somewhat ok for the N-increases given we are getting larger L3 caches on chips these days.
L3 alone won't be sufficent. There are already the first CPUs with L4, but I suppose some new sort of small and fast GDDRx that be added to the mainboard will make it. (like in PS3)

I really like the N-increase since it takes further PC development into consideration. If we had the first crypto in the 90' the memory requirements today would be so ridiculous small that even GPUs couldn't compete against highly paralellized ASICS or FPGAs. YAC satisfies the demand for a crypto that is mineable on standard PCs.
