241  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: is blockchain.info broken ? 0 connected nodes on: August 31, 2017, 08:19:44 AM
Blockchain.info crashes sometimes due to heavy load or DDoS, nothing to worry about, it goes back up in minutes
242  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Which Hardware Wallet is The Best? 2017 on: August 31, 2017, 08:04:55 AM
Perhaps I won't ever understand why people would want to make money then put it inside a hardware wallet that they did not build themselves.
It's like people just like to lose a bunch of money or they just don't care for their future. There should be a do it yourself hardware wallet tutorial that would be cheap and just as efficient as Trezor.

Indeed, Trezor is 100% opensource and there are some information on the internet about DIY it with a raspberry pi for example.

However, take myself as an example, I had a cold storage before but finally decide to give Trezor a try - I simply don't have time to mess up with these projects and don't want to risk my coins. Better leave it to the specialists and pay the money.

Did it with  pi 2, it was very convenient to use, though a lot of lags Sad(
243  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: can bitcoin wallet be hacked by hackers? on: August 31, 2017, 07:50:06 AM
Depends whether it is a cold a hot wallet, it's better to use Ethereum, though critical vulns in Electrum were disclosed preciously.
244  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Learning to program on the blockchain? on: August 31, 2017, 07:40:32 AM
Best library I've used so far is bitcoinj, it allows to query blockchain info you need without downloading it. There are implementations for Java, but if you have no programming experience it would be best to start with the basics (e.g. learn structure and algorithms of programming languages).
245  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: November real test for Bitcoin ? on: August 30, 2017, 04:23:18 PM
I have no ability to influence any decision of the community so I try not to think about it. What's the point? Just shake the nervous system. Come what may I will accept any outcome. But it seems to me that any changes we do not
we'll see. Someone will work on the panic and all.
Exactly, as with SegWit2x - it all depends whether it will happen to be a good improvement or not, there are too many factors here that can't be predicted.
246  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin Wallet without transaction fee on: August 30, 2017, 03:42:22 PM
BItcoin will cease issuance of new coins after hitting max cap. The concept is that people will pay miners directly for their txs.
247  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What if someone bought up all the existing bitcoins? on: August 30, 2017, 02:46:51 PM
Well, in that case the price would skyrocket, at least according to market laws
248  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What do you think are the biggest disadvantages of Bitcoin? on: August 30, 2017, 01:20:47 PM
Scalability is the biggest problem - high fees and 20 minutes waiting will always be an ultimate obstacle for Bitcoin mass adoption.
249  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin huge fees on: August 30, 2017, 12:05:37 PM
Fees are too high for normal transactions, today you have to pay around 1.5 USD to get your transaction included in the first block. Bitcoin scalability should be improved, something like Lighning network is needed to create sidechains - Ethereum is heading to a soft fork of Plasma, which will basically allow to scale it, Bitcoin should not lag behind, too. 250  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Solo Mining on: August 30, 2017, 07:54:57 AM
If you plan to mine altcoins, its better to buy an NVIDIA card - it will mine Ethereum tokens and will allow you to mine other alts as well. What is your budget?
251  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Need help in configuring JSON RPC for Bitcoin Core - Please help on: August 17, 2017, 01:46:29 PM

Example - If a client requests for a withdrawal of 0.1 btc, i want to deduct the fee and send the balance as withdrawal.  How do i put it in php code?  Please help me.  I dont want to charge a fixed fee from the clients.  I want to just deduct the fees that will incur for that withdrawal..

Check out RPC .estimateFee function: https://chainquery.com/bitcoin-api/estimatefee

Create a tx hash and pass it as a parameter to estimateFee call.
252  Economy / Speculation / Re: How MUCH will the FINAL BTC be WORTH? on: August 17, 2017, 01:30:22 PM
Winklevoss brothers predicted BTC price at 10 000 USD though.  ::)Mind that they were one of the earliest BTC holders here, right now their holdings of BTC fall under the whale category.
I do remember them stating that the price of Bitcoin will be really high, though when comparing their price to the price right now it is pretty easy to obtain since the price of Bitcoin could just make a little more than double its value and get to the price that they stated that it would be.

Although $10,000 is a high price for Bitcoin, I don't want to say that Bitcoin will stop getting price increases because it got up to that price.

There is a high chance that the price of Bitcoin could get to a million dollars per coin.

I don't believe that the price will grow indefinitely, because Bitcoin will be basically handicapped because of the max issued coins limit (mining incentive fades) and competition from more convenient coins. So the peak BTC may be 10 000, thats reasonable.
253  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you think Bitcoin will survive after 100 year ? on: August 17, 2017, 01:23:50 PM
Yes,definitely bitcoin would survive. It has already crossed lots of critical issues and still it survives. It has made many people's prediction that bitcoin would soon die.Even the governments and bankers are already tired of trying to destroy or ban bitcoin.More than a currency,it has been nowadays bought mainly as a profitable investment. So,i think that bitcoin could survive for more than 100 years.

But when BTC hits max issued amount and no mining happens,  then what?
254  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why people are holding Bitcoin? on: August 17, 2017, 12:38:25 PM
Bitcoin is a currency, a medium of value not a stock. If a significant portion of  market adopts BTC and fiat will be abandoned, which will happen in the near future, then its price fluctuations against, say, USD will be irrelevant.
255  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Do you see alts have chances against Bitcoins? on: August 17, 2017, 10:51:19 AM
I don't see alts replacing btc at any point. But they will definitely go on sharing the market. Alts present a welcome alternative, it's always a good opportunity to speculate on both alts and btc

Jeez, the only upside of bitcoin is that its old. Look at tx time (realistically 2 blocks, or 20 minutes). Look at tx price - 40 cents on average (and constantly growing, mostly due to mining reward halving). Can you imagine people at the register waiting 20 minutes and paying nearly 1 dollar to buy a 2-dollar doughnut?

Ether or LTC or RIpple will definitely outpace BTC in 5-10 years.

257  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Just confriming, segwit or segwit2x is going ahead on BTC? on: August 17, 2017, 10:25:56 AM
Well, the price soar I think is due to SegWit2x and we can see that people reached consensus segwit2x was a right thing to do.
258  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: How to programmatically generate a list of addresses and private keys on: August 16, 2017, 02:25:57 PM
Well, in Clojure the best library is bitcljoin: https://github.com/pelle/bitcljoin

It retrieves balances, sends transactions and etc. Just my 0.02$
